- Chapter 6 - No Wonder She Is Just a Fake
Gu Ming had never liked anyone before.
She had entered the entertainment industry to act during her adolescence, and while she had experienced all kinds of diverse emotions within scripts, she never had the opportunity to actually talk about or experience a romance in reality.
Gu Yan knew she should not ask deeper questions, but she could not control herself. Amid her feelings of rejoicing, she asked the very question that made her feel apprehensive.
“Do you like men or women?”
Asking this was a bit offensive and a bit over the line, especially in this kind of semi-public setting. Her attitude and tone were both a bit excessive.
She originally wanted to make amends and explain a few words to express that she was just following up with good intentions, but she did not succeed. Gu Ming answered her readily that she did not know.
Up until now, she had only acted in romantic scenes with male actors. Currently, there was no one who had moved her heart, and she did not want to limit herself either.
“Although this thought is a bit cunning, I truly do not want to be confined within a single sexual orientation.” Gu Ming explained, feeling slightly embarrassed as she said, “Actually, I pursue a soulmate more. I believe in the saying that there is another half of one’s body in the world, a destined match. It should probably be just like television dramas, possessing an extreme sense of fatalism.”
It was exactly the same as her.
She could not help but secretly rejoice because of this.
Her mood turned around, and she could not resist humming a little tune under her breath. After listening for a while, Gu Ming smiled and said, “Your throat conditions are quite good. Have you ever thought about going to sing?”
She froze all at once, remembering Yan Ling’s degradation and ridicule of her voice.
Contrasted against Gu Ming’s gentle, clear, and perfectly enunciated voice, hers was a bit more sticky and childish. If one did not look at her face and only listened to her voice, she could pass for several years younger.
Those who detested this kind of voice would say she was pretending to be cute, pretending to be young, and pretending to be coquettish. Yan Ling had also frequently expressed disgust toward her voice; when they were doing it, she would basically make her bite down on a towel and would not allow her to make a sound.
She did not expect that Gu Ming would praise her…
No, this was not the first time Gu Ming had praised her voice either. Back when they had their first scene together and she called her “Sister,” she had already said that her voice was soft and very cute.
At that time, she could not tell whether it was courtesy or sincerity. Fearing that her own voice would affect the state of the other people, she had been restraining her natural voice.
Singing?
Back when she still had the qualifications to imagine freely, of course she had thought about it, but now—
She shook her head: “My voice has great limitations.”
Of course, the biggest limitation was Yan Ling. She would never permit her to cross over from being an actor to a singer. She still wanted to use her to get close to Gu Ming, so how could she possibly allow her to break away from the setup of being a “Little Gu Ming.”
Seeing that Gu Ming still wanted to say something, she hurriedly shifted the topic, asking about what kind of place would be suitable for Gu Ming to find as a settling point.
Gu Ming considerately followed her words and said, “It should be close to a water source, it needs to have a certain height, and it would be best to have a wide and open space. After all, there are six tents.”
“Then is over there acceptable? I seem to have seen a lake.”
Following the direction Gu Yan pointed, the two of them walked over quickly. Sure enough, there was a medium-sized lake here. To say it was a lake was not entirely accurate either; it was more like a large pond.
Some dirty things were floating on the surface of the water, and if they wanted to use it, they would have to treat it first, which was slightly troublesome. Furthermore, the surrounding environment was not considered very good either, so they could only mark it first as to-be-determined.
They continued to walk forward.
The landforms of the island chosen by the program crew for the adventure were quite diverse. On their way, they discovered a few narrow caves. The geographical location was quite good, but it was a bit too far from the water source. After thinking it over repeatedly, they still chose to mark them as to-be-determined.
They also did not know how long or how far they had walked. The little bit of food they ate at noon was completely and thoroughly digested, and she was somewhat unable to walk any further.
Gu Ming saw through it and deliberately slowed down her pace. Finding that she was walking slower and slower, she simply half-squatted down in front of her: “Get on.”
She hurriedly refused: “No need, no need, I can still walk.”
“The road back is still long. Do you want to spend the night on the road with me?”
There was not much shelter on the isolated island, and the trajectory of the sun moving westward could be clearly seen. Right now, it was nearly evening. According to the length of time they spent when they came, returning via the original route might really mean walking until it grew dark. They still had to meet up with the others to confirm the final destination…
After weighing the matter repeatedly, she could only very embarrassedly lean onto Gu Ming’s back.
“I’m sorry, I dragged down your progress.”
Gu Ming steadily carried her up: “What silly words are you saying? Not to mention that we are sisters, at the very least we are partners traveling together. Helping each other is a matter of course.”
“Then if it were someone else, would you also be like this?” She asked these words very quietly. After asking, she also realized it was a bit inappropriate. She felt vexed; why could she always not control this mouth of hers to ask some questions that made things difficult for people? But she just wanted to know. She wanted to obtain some proof from Gu Ming, even if this kind of proof was not the same thing as what she desired.
“I would probably help, but I definitely would not use this kind of method.” Gu Ming smiled and bounced her up slightly. She clutched the person tightly in a panic, and hearing Gu Ming’s hearty laugh that carried a slight tone of having succeeded in a prank, she could not help but reveal a smile as well.
Gu Ming’s physical strength was truly powerful. During the period, she frequently requested Gu Ming to put her down to rest for a bit, but Gu Ming did not agree.
“Back when I participated in hiking previously, I could walk for two days and two nights even while carrying a backpack weighing dozens of catties. How much do you even weigh? You’ve only been walking for a little while, it’s no hindrance.”
She knew about this piece of experience. After discovering that she had fallen in love with Gu Ming, she had been like her fanatical fans, searching everywhere to scrape together every single bit of bit and piece related to her.
Although Gu Ming came from a wealthy and noble background, she herself did not place that much emphasis on enjoying pleasure; she loved adventure and experiences more.
That hiking experience was during her university period, on an ordinary weekend of her sophomore year. Just like all hiking enthusiasts, she had taken her equipment and set out on the road in a perfectly ordinary manner.
If it were not for fans recognizing her, following and filming her all along the way, and posting it to social media platforms, who would have thought that a big star like Gu Ming, who had achieved fame long ago, would have this kind of hobby.
In the video, she only wore a pair of goggles, a tight-fitting sleeveless tank top, and a quick-drying jacket tied around her waist. The huge military-green travel bag was carried on her back. The skin exposed to the outside floated with a healthy and sunny wheat color, looking as if it were plated with a layer of honeyed light under the filter, which contrasted and made the rising muscle lines of her arms appear exceptionally equipped with the beauty of power.
Precisely because of this video, Yan Ling had even forced her to go and work out for a period of time. Unfortunately, her physical quality was not up to standard; even after practicing for two months, no results were seen, and she was harshly ridiculed and taught a lesson.
“No wonder you are just a fake.”
“You are only fit to be her stand-in.”
“Aside from this face and this pair of eyes, where else are you like her?”
“Good-for-nothing. A stand-in should look like a stand-in. I am not sponsoring you to take your attitude.”
Yan Ling was dissatisfied that she only had a face similar to Gu Ming’s, but she herself was so full of rejoice.
Before it grew dark, they finally returned to the original place and successfully met up with the others.
Seeing that she was carried back on Gu Ming’s back, You Sa and the others also asked with concern whether her legs or feet were injured. They did not bring medicine, and getting injured on the first day would be no small matter.
She was very embarrassed to say that she herself had no strength and was unable to walk. Gu Ming stepped ahead of her to explain that she was just tired and it was no hindrance, naturally shifting to the main topic to share the fruits of their battle with everyone.
The other groups had also found several places about which they were hesitant. Cheng Ming’s group was the last to return, and as soon as they came back, they brought a piece of good news, saying that they had found the place where the group of people from the second season had settled down.
That place’s location was truly not bad. It had suitable fresh water resources, and not far away, there was a small patch of coconut trees. Walking a bit deeper, one could even see plantain trees and banana trees.
Most importantly, that group of people from the second season still had things remaining. Even if many could no longer be used after undergoing wind and rain corrosion, the dug-out dry toilet was still there and could be used after tidying it up again, and the temporarily built stone stove was also still there; replacing the stones would be enough.
This was indeed good news, but the source was Cheng Ming, so Gu Yan felt somewhat uncomfortable in her heart.
Especially watching him take this opportunity again to walk to the side with Gu Ming, having the faint meaning of acting as the second-in-command. She, who could only stand in the corner looking on gloomily and with dissatisfaction, felt a sense of illusion for no reason, as if she had returned into the drama.
In the drama, they were also like this. She only had a share of watching from afar, and would forever be unable to insert herself between the two of them.
