- Chapter 9.1 - I Became the Goddess's Live-in Son-in-Law?? (Part IX)
The next morning, Zhi Gui and Zhi Li noticed that the young master looked rather listless, which was a rare sight for her. However, when asked, she said it was nothing, and everyone stopped pursuing the matter.
The following day, Jiang Yiqing didn’t get up until noon. Zhi Gui and Zhi Li noticed the young master looked a bit off, which was unusual for her.
When questioned, she claimed nothing was wrong, so everyone let it rest.
Jiang Yiqing looked at herself in the mirror. Her body was covered in red marks. As the memories of last night flooded back, her face instantly turned a deep crimson.
She put on her clothes lingeringly. The more she looked at her reflection, the more she felt there was something peculiar about the expression in her eyes and brows, though she figured she might just be overthinking it.
Jiang Yiqing shook her head, sighed “To die beneath the peony flower, even as a ghost, one remains romantic,” and went to tend to the Golden Immortal Auspicious Dew Cicada she had brought home yesterday.
The quote was truly fitting for the occasion.
After she administered a few drops of Jade Dew, the Auspicious Dew Cicada looked even more spirited, blooming proudly in the morning breeze.
Jiang Yiqing scanned the courtyard but couldn’t find Si Xuansu. She figured she must have gone to the military camp again.
However, even with the Goddess away, she had things to do—namely, the Silver Silk Spirit Tooth she had acquired yesterday.
Jiang Yiqing asked the system, “I wonder how this Silver Silk Spirit Tooth is supposed to be used?”
Using ginseng types to brew medicine was standard, but how did one use a “tooth”? The Silver Silk Spirit Tooth didn’t look edible, which left Jiang Yiqing quite puzzled.
“It is actually a seed,” the system replied.
“A seed?” Jiang Yiqing asked. “If I plant it, will it grow fruit?”
“The Spirit Tooth Fruit only bears fruit once every hundred years, and each tree produces at most ten fruits. What you have is just a fragment; it won’t grow into a massive tree, but it should be able to manage producing one fruit.”
“But having to wait a hundred years—isn’t that too slow?” Jiang Yiqing thought to herself that whether she could even live to be a hundred was a question. If she died before the fruit grew, wouldn’t it all be for nothing?
“You can raise it within the Space. Just use more Jade Dew and Nectar from the Mall to irrigate it,” the system suggested.
Jiang Yiqing nodded, indicating her understanding.
Things like Nectar and Jade Dew—items one would expect only immortals to encounter—were available in the Mall at a low price. Jiang Yiqing thought the Mall was truly a wonderful thing.
After burying the Silver Silk Spirit Tooth in the soil of the Space, she irrigated it with Nectar and Jade Dew and asked the system, “I wonder what use the resulting fruit has?”
Hearing the system say it only fruited once every century, the fruit must be incredibly useful. She hoped it wouldn’t disappoint her.
“The Spirit Tooth Fruit is even more potent than the Nine-Star Heavenly Ginseng. While the Nine-Star Heavenly Ginseng cures all diseases, the Spirit Tooth Fruit can enhance spiritual power, cleanse the marrow and strengthen the tendons, and it also possesses detoxifying properties.”
“I see.” Jiang Yiqing was delighted to hear this, thinking it suited her needs perfectly.
She wanted to enhance her spiritual power so that finding the fragments would become easier.
However, if it could only bear one fruit, that would be a bit of a problem; she wanted to give one to Si Xuansu as well.
Good things should naturally be shared with the Goddess.
If there were more, she even wanted to give some to her parents-in-law, or perhaps enhance the constitutions of Zhi Gui, Zhi Li, and the others. Human desire truly was a bottomless pit…
“Is there any way to make one fragment produce two fruits?” Jiang Yiqing asked.
The system understood her thoughts immediately and said, “You had better be careful. Some people are naturally unable to withstand excessive spiritual power. If you feed them something with such potent spiritual energy, it might instead cause their meridians to snap, leading to death. Aside from you, the only person who might be able to try taking the Spirit Tooth Fruit is Si Xuansu.”
“Then the Goddess and I will eat it together. Sharing one between two people works too, but is there any way to grow an extra one?”
“That depends on your luck. Ten fruits grow from nine fragments. In principle, one fragment can produce at most two fruits. I can only say it’s possible; I cannot help you with it.”
That statement alone was enough. Jiang Yiqing was determined to take good care of the Silver Silk Spirit Tooth to make it bear two fruits.
She purchased a large quantity of supplements from the Space and piled them all on top of the seed.
As a result, after just one day, the seed sprouted, poking through the soil and revealing two tender green leaves.
Jiang Yiqing was overjoyed to see this. She had originally worried that such “rich” nurturing might kill it, but it seemed she had worried too much.
Holy-tier treasures like this could never be over-nourished; their own digestive capabilities were extremely strong.
The next day, silver-white fuzz appeared on the seedling. A few days later, the seedling had grown significantly taller, bearing emerald-green leaves.
Jiang Yiqing was very happy to see this, thinking that at this growth rate, bearing fruit was only a matter of time.
One night, while she was sleeping, the sound of clashing blades suddenly echoed in her ears. Jiang Yiqing woke up startled, looking bleary-eyed toward the floor by the bed, only to see Si Xuansu engaged in combat with a masked individual, sword in hand.
Wha… what was going on?!
Jiang Yiqing knew Si Xuansu was very powerful, but she had only heard about it; seeing it now, she finally understood.
She saw Si Xuansu swinging her sword without hesitation, her movements as fluid as flowing water. Her silhouette leaped like a startled swan, as beautiful as if she were dancing, making it impossible to look away. The speed of her strikes was incredibly fast, forcing the masked man to change his footwork with every move, jumping around the room until he was seemingly cornered.
Just as Si Xuansu was about to capture the man alive, he suddenly tore off his mask and said to Jiang Yiqing, “Little sister! I’m sorry, I’ve only just come to see you.”
Jiang Yiqing froze upon being called out. Si Xuansu’s sword also paused as she asked Jiang Yiqing, “Is he your elder brother?”
Jiang Yiqing didn’t recognize this person, but the system said, “He is indeed the original body’s brother, Jiang Yifan.”
Well then. Jiang Yiqing reluctantly acknowledged him and said to Si Xuansu, “Yes.”
“If you are Yiqing’s brother, then why did you break into the General’s Mansion at night while masked?” Si Xuansu frowned at Jiang Yifan. Her gaze wasn’t harsh, but the aura surrounding her was quite intimidating, revealing a hint of her usual majesty as a general.
“I…” Jiang Yifan stammered, “I came to take Yiqing away.”
Jiang Yiqing thought to herself that this “cheap” brother had appeared out of nowhere and should just go back to wherever he came from.
So, she said decisively, “I am living very well in the General’s Mansion. I will not go back with you.”
“Yiqing, you?” Jiang Yifan seemed not to have expected her to refuse so flatly. He asked, “Why refuse to come with me? It was my fault for letting you marry in my place. I must take responsibility and rescue you from the General’s Mansion.”
Jiang Yiqing thought it wasn’t that serious. “Rescue” made it sound like she was suffering here.
Si Xuansu’s gaze suddenly turned cold as she looked at Jiang Yifan. Jiang Yifan shuddered and took two steps back toward Jiang Yiqing.
“You say you want to rescue her from here?” Si Xuansu asked Jiang Yifan in a cold voice.
Jiang Yifan took another step closer to Jiang Yiqing, hesitating whether to nod or shake his head. This woman’s martial arts were too high; he hadn’t expected that he wouldn’t be able to beat her. Taking Yiqing out was likely impossible now; his current goal was just to see if he could escape unscathed, and he hoped she wouldn’t cause trouble for Yiqing.
“Even if you are Yiqing’s brother, I will still strike. You were the one who made her marry in your place, so what are you doing here now?” As Si Xuansu spoke, she moved toward Jiang Yifan with her sword raised. Jiang Yifan felt a wave of chills over his body.
Jiang Yiqing watched the Goddess’s movements with her sword and felt a massive wave of heroism rolling toward her, just like watching a movie—a true female warrior’s style.
Jiang Yifan had long heard that Si Xuansu’s martial arts were formidable, but he didn’t believe in superstitions. He hadn’t expected to run straight into the line of fire today.
