I cannot see through Jiang Yiqing either.
Aunt Qin parked the car in the garage while Luo Shuyu and Jiang Yiqing waited for her on the lawn.
A woman emerged from the neighboring villa, watering the grass with a hose. Seeing the two of them, she called out a greeting.
“Yiqing, is this your friend? I haven’t seen her before.”
Jiang Yiqing cast an inquiring glance at Luo Shuyu, then replied vaguely, “Ah, yes.”
She didn’t actually know the woman. Aunt Qin, having finished parking, walked over and said, “Sister Wang, so full of energy again? Watering such a large lawn all by yourself—and in winter, too. You could totally call Sister Lu and the others and have them hire professionals to maintain it.”
“It’s just that I’d be bored with nothing to do,” Sister Wang said, wiping sweat from her forehead. “I’ll get back to it. It’s cold out; you all should head inside quickly so you don’t catch a chill.”
“Sister Lu is truly lucky to have an employee like you,” Aunt Qin remarked, gesturing for the two girls to head inside.
Luo Shuyu slowly pushed Jiang Yiqing forward. Her expression stiffened for a fleeting moment. She thought no one would notice her subtle reaction, but the sharp-eyed Jiang Yiqing asked in a low voice, “Sister Luo, what is it? Your face doesn’t look quite right.”
“That woman called Sister Wang… her physiognomy is very poor,” Luo Shuyu whispered.
Aunt Qin pushed open the villa’s front door. The welcoming warmth from inside was a comfort. She said, “Miss Luo, are you talking about the kind of things like ‘a darkened forehead’ or ‘an impending blood-related disaster’?”
Aunt Qin often saw such things in TV dramas. Unexpectedly, Luo Shuyu let out a soft laugh. Although she didn’t show much, there was a hint of disdain as she said, “Good and evil are two sides of a coin; therefore, a person’s countenance also has two sides. She belongs to the category of—the face of the extremely wicked.”
Upon hearing this, the keys in Aunt Qin’s hand accidentally slipped and clattered onto the floor. She hurriedly picked them up and glanced out the window. The woman was still looking down, watering the grass. As if sensing something, the woman looked up and locked eyes with her. Aunt Qin looked away, startled and dazed. “How is that possible? Sister Wang seems so kind and friendly. She has a vegetable garden in her yard and often brings us her surplus. How could such a person be evil? Miss Luo, wouldn’t a wicked person look different from a kind one?”
Luo Shuyu’s calm words shattered her last shred of illusion: “When I observe people, I only look at their physiognomy, not their physical beauty. An ugly person can have a heart of gold, while someone who appears dignified and friendly might be hiding the most poisonous intentions in their heart.”
“…” Aunt Qin was utterly speechless. She wanted to defend Sister Wang further, but a chill crept up her spine. This was because Luo Shuyu’s judgments had never been wrong. Out of reverence for a discipline that transcended science and touched upon the laws of heaven, she found herself compelled to follow Luo Shuyu’s line of reasoning. “If what you say is true, how could such a terrible thing happen?…”
Why would such a person exist, and so close to them? And why had they lived side-by-side for so long? Thinking about how she often left the villa unlocked out of trust, and how Sister Wang would leave harvested vegetables at their doorstep, she suddenly felt a cold shiver of dread.
“The existence of evil people is quite normal. What matters is whether she will act on it, and when,” Luo Shuyu said unhurriedly.
“I’m spooked,” Aunt Qin said, looking at Jiang Yiqing. “Yiqing, if anything happens to you, I won’t be able to face Weiwei. From today on, besides moving around inside the villa, you must report to me wherever you go and whatever you do, do you understand?”
The surveillance cameras Jiang Shangwei had bought to ensure her precious daughter’s safety had just arrived. Aunt Qin decided to install them immediately, making sure there were no blind spots in the villa. Once these smart cameras detected any suspicious person or activity, they would automatically connect to the police system and trigger an alarm.
This might seem a bit excessive, but the “great catastrophe” the fortune-teller spoke of was a heavy stone hanging over their hearts. At this critical juncture, no one dared to take it lightly.
Jiang Yiqing nodded obediently. Her expression remained relaxed, seemingly unaffected by Aunt Qin’s nervous mood. She asked Luo Shuyu, “Sister Luo, I’m quite curious. Based on my physiognomy, what kind of person am I?…”
“…” Luo Shuyu fell silent.
“Sister Luo, tell the truth. I won’t be angry,” Jiang Yiqing said with a smile.
“Yiqing’s physiognomy is… naturally excellent.”
“Really? I’ve heard that beautiful girls tend to have tragic fates. Even though I look like this, I still consider myself a pretty girl. Wouldn’t a tragic fate show on one’s face?” Jiang Yiqing asked.
Aunt Qin disagreed, saying, “Yiqing, you’re talking nonsense again. What tragic fate? It’s just a single hurdle! You will definitely overcome it smoothly. Aside from this one matter, your life is something many people would envy!”
“Yes, Yiqing, don’t talk nonsense. There is no tragic fate. What I see—is a brilliant future,” Luo Shuyu said. “Rest assured, with me here, I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
Jiang Yiqing had excellent bone structure, with her forehead and chin perfectly balanced. There was a slight concern regarding communication difficulties with others, but she possessed great wisdom in her heart. Once she gained clarity, she would be a person of supreme kindness and virtue.
Observing a person’s physiognomy was like dissecting them from the inside out. Despite their short time together, Luo Shuyu understood Jiang Yiqing better than the girl’s own friends.
Because of this, she knew even better how enchanting this girl’s heaven-blessed beauty and her exquisite, clear heart truly were.
“Sister Luo is truly gentle,” Jiang Yiqing said, as if she had expected that answer. She seemed completely unconcerned about what she might encounter in the future, displaying great equanimity. “Naturally, I believe in Sister Luo. So, Aunt Qin, don’t be too nervous.”
Jiang Yiqing was carried to her room on the second floor by Aunt Qin. At times like this, a villa was less convenient than a single-story flat; although it had an elevator, movement still posed challenges.
Afterward, Aunt Qin and the servants began busying themselves with cooking. Jiang Yiqing’s friends had also arranged to come over to celebrate her discharge from the hospital. A party on the very first day out was a bit reckless, but it was entirely consistent with the old Jiang Yiqing’s personality, so the current Jiang Yiqing agreed to her friends’ wishes.
Luo Shuyu decided to head back home first to bring over some of the items she needed for work.
She first called Lan Changge. Changge was her secretary, as well as a friend to both her and her mother, and she held the decision-making power over work commissions. Luo Shuyu didn’t have the energy to screen requests, so Changge did the due diligence and filtered them for her.
“Shuyu? Are you at the Jiang residence right now?”
“Yes, I’m planning to go back and grab some things.”
“A busy person like you, with such precious time, shouldn’t waste it on things like that,” Lan Changge said. “I’ll organize everything and send it over later. Just wait there. I’m also attending Miss Jiang Yiqing’s discharge party.”
“…” Luo Shuyu wasn’t comfortable in party atmospheres. She said, “Actually, I called for another reason. I feel like I’ve seen the servant next door to the Jiangs, the one called Sister Wang. Can you look her up for me?”
“…This is the first time you’ve made such a request. I’ll certainly do my best,” Lan Changge laughed. “Who would have thought? There’s someone even Master Luo can’t see through at a glance.”
“There are many I can’t see through; I haven’t opened a ‘heavenly eye,'” Luo Shuyu said. “Besides her, I can’t see through Jiang Yiqing either.”
“…” Lan Changge said, “Regarding this commission, the Jiang mother didn’t hesitate at all. It’s truly a sky-high price beyond your imagination—almost like a dowry for her daughter. So Shuyu, I’m putting in 120% effort. I’ve declined all other commissions on my end for the time being, unless they are extremely urgent or involve a life-and-death situation.”
“Alright, I understand.” Hearing her mention a “dowry,” Luo Shuyu shook her head inwardly. From Jiang Yiqing’s face, she couldn’t see the slightest intention of wanting to date her.
If she really did, then she was far too composed. She was quite different from the bright, straightforward girl described in the rumors.
Bathed in the winter sunlight, Luo Shuyu pretended to be on a phone call while taking a photo of Sister Wang’s appearance, which she sent to Lan Changge via text.
Then, she returned to the kitchen to help Aunt Qin. Aunt Qin was a friend of the Jiang family as well as the housekeeper; she enjoyed doing small tasks personally and was considered half a mistress of the villa.
“Miss Luo, you shouldn’t be in here; we can handle this,” Aunt Qin said, ushering Luo Shuyu out. While busy processing ingredients, she looked back and said, “The flowers I ordered just arrived. If you don’t mind, you could start assembling the floral arrangements.”
To celebrate Jiang Yiqing’s discharge, massive bouquets had been ordered. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she was the apple of everyone’s eye, deserving of any precious coronation the world could offer. Yet, perhaps due to the impact of the hospitalization, there was no trace of a spoiled little princess on Jiang Yiqing’s face.
Luo Shuyu went to the living room and began arranging the fresh flowers. The flowers Aunt Qin ordered were very fresh and varied; there were several types of roses alone—Luo Shen, Freud, and Apple Jack—as well as pink gladiolus and pale purple tuberoses.
How to harmonize such a diverse array of flowers into a single whole was a challenge. Luo Shuyu studied them carefully and even looked up some references.
After a while, Jiang Yiqing grew bored alone in her room. She pushed her wheelchair to the top of the stairs and watched Luo Shuyu in the living room from a distance. Not wanting to disturb her, she quietly pushed her wheelchair back.
Luo Shuyu, ever sensitive, noticed this. Coincidentally, her flower arrangements were finished. She then picked a few sprigs of freesia, placed them in a white porcelain vase, and went to Jiang Yiqing’s room.
“Yiqing, are you in?”
Jiang Yiqing heard the knock and said, “Please come in.”
Luo Shuyu placed the porcelain vase on her desk. These were the flowers she felt suited her the moment she first saw her.
“Yiqing, is it okay if I put these here?”
“Thank you, Sister Luo. I like them very much.” Jiang Yiqing smiled.
