I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 82
Wen Yunqing quickly saw through Father Wen’s intention, but the smile on her face remained unchanged. “I suppose so, but not just a little bit; it should be significantly more than that.”
The smile on Father Wen’s face grew wider. “Would it be convenient for you to come home next weekend? I’d like to introduce you to my business partners.”
“I don’t think so,” Wen Yunqing’s refusal was quite direct. “Although the speed of a plane is fast, the time spent waiting for and traveling to the airport is substantial. Coming back on the weekend would waste too much time.”
Father Wen paused, his eyebrows slightly lowered. “Could you consider it a favor to your father? The company is currently in an expansion phase, and I need you to get to know more people.”
Although Father Wen wanted to use his daughter’s abilities to build up his network, his attitude was quite frank, and he didn’t use any flimsy excuses to conceal his intentions.
“I have other matters to deal with in Jing City, so I don’t have time to come back,” Wen Yunqing matched Father Wen’s direct approach with one of her own. “Moreover, looking at Feng Shui and setting up arrays to help people change their luck must bear some degree of karmic consequence.”
“If you want me to help, Dad, you also need to bear this portion of the karma yourself,” Wen Yunqing reminded him.
“Bear karmic consequence?” Father Wen raised an eyebrow. “Will this have any impact on you or me? Is it serious?”
“It will. If we help someone insatiably greedy, we will have to pay a price equal to the amount of benefit they gain,” Wen Yunqing said with a smiling look. “Take today’s Feng Shui array, for example. If you use this layout to make a fortune, and then use that money to do something bad…”
“Both Master Jing and I, as the layout arrangers, would likely face bad luck for a period of time, missing some opportunities that originally belonged to us,” Wen Yunqing said, mixing truth and fabrication. “That’s why Feng Shui masters charge so much; after all, there are risks involved.”
“Of course, if everything is properly controlled, it will only have a small impact on me and won’t affect you, Dad,” Wen Yunqing added.
Other people might truly incur karmic consequences, but her own situation was quite special. Although there was some karma, it wouldn’t affect her at all.
Father Wen hesitated upon hearing this. If setting up a Feng Shui array would affect himself and his daughter, then his plan might not be able to proceed…
While Father Wen was hesitating, Wen Yunqing was observing the changes in his expression, using them to determine whether the company was more important in his heart, or if she, his daughter, was more important.
“Then let’s forget it. But Dad might need to borrow your name. Master Jing wouldn’t mind, would she?” Father Wen still had some bottom line. Hearing that it would affect his daughter, he immediately dismissed the idea.
Wen Han wanted to say something when he heard this, but recalling his mother’s disdainful look towards him, he silently closed his mouth again.
Seeing this, the smile on Wen Yunqing’s face became more genuine. “Of course. Dad, feel free to use it. Master Jing won’t mind.”
It seems my father still has some bottom line and won’t treat his own daughter as a piece of leverage to be exploited. However, this level of awareness was still insufficient. If it were Mother Wen, she probably wouldn’t have even brought it up.
Rushing to catch their flight before her alias was completely blown, Wen Yunqing pulled her girlfriend onto the plane. Their luck was good; the flight was not delayed and landed punctually in Jing City.
Since neither of them had classes the next morning, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng didn’t return to the dormitory but headed back to their residence near Jing City instead.
Noticing that the light in the room next door was on, Wen Yunqing slowed her action of opening the door, feeling a bit hesitant about whether to knock on the door across the hall.
In those few seconds of Wen Yunqing’s hesitation, the door next door opened, and Zhou Jun, carrying a garbage bag, appeared before the two of them.
“Zhou Jun, why are you here?” Wen Yimeng was surprised to see Zhou Jun.
“Ah, I…” Zhou Jun instinctively panicked for a second, then quickly composed herself. “I had some academic questions I wanted to ask Teacher Lu about, so I just came to stay for a few days.”
Wen Yimeng nodded. Zhou Jun had chosen Physics, and Lu Zhiming was a top student in that field. It was normal for them to discuss academic matters together.
Wen Yunqing chuckled softly. “Zhou Jun, you probably don’t have classes scheduled tomorrow morning either, do you?”
“That’s right,” Zhou Jun nodded.
“Then should we go back together tomorrow?” Wen Yunqing asked, her gaze sweeping over Zhou Jun’s neck, seemingly trying to find some kind of mark there.
“Sure, we can even grab lunch together then,” Zhou Jun’s mood immediately brightened, and she felt a small rush of shyness. “I actually have something I want to tell you two as well.”
Wen Yunqing hummed in acknowledgment, withdrawing her gaze with a slight regret. Zhou Jun’s neck and collarbone looked perfectly normal. It seemed their relationship hadn’t progressed significantly yet.
There was a world of difference between their own house and room and a hotel suite.
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng were both young people who had just discovered the joys of romance. Since they didn’t have to get up early the next day, they stayed up making noise until 1 AM before finally falling asleep, having taken several showers.
The next day, at noon, Wen Yunqing, Wen Yimeng, Zhou Jun, and Lu Zhiming sat down in a quiet restaurant, paired up two by two.
“Zhou Jun, what did you want to tell us?” Wen Yimeng already had a rough guess, her eyes shining with gossip.
“Ahem.” Zhou Jun nervously cleared her throat, then used her left hand to hold Lu Zhiming’s right hand, placing their clasped hands on the table.
“Well, Teacher Lu and I are together,” Zhou Jun managed to say after some mental preparation.
“Wow, congratulations,” Wen Yunqing, who had already guessed this, offered a big smile and clapped sincerely.
Wen Yimeng’s reaction was a little slower, but she soon joined Wen Yunqing’s applause. “Zhou Jun, if you and Teacher Lu are together, does that count as a teacher-student relationship?”
“Of course not! I’m only a teaching assistant who can resign at any time,” Lu Zhiming hastily interjected. The phrase “teacher-student relationship” should not be casually thrown around. If Zhou Jun heard it and overthought things, his newly acquired girlfriend might just fly away.
Wen Yimeng blinked. “I’m sorry, I’m just genuinely curious. Can I ask how you and Teacher Lu got together, Zhou Jun?”
Zhou Jun thought for a moment. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to say, but she wasn’t sure how to explain it. She felt she had kind of stumbled into it herself. Because there was no reason not to be together, she just agreed to Teacher Lu?
“It’s simple. I actively pursued Zhou Jun, and then Zhou Jun agreed. That’s all,” Lu Zhiming still rushed to answer.
Wen Yimeng nodded slightly but still found it odd. “But we’ve been with Zhou Jun almost all the time. How did we not notice anything? Were we too slow?”
“Correction: it’s not ‘you’ plural; it should be just Student Yimeng who is a bit slow,” Lu Zhiming said with a smile. “Wen Yunqing, you must have figured it out early on, right? Why didn’t you tell Student Yimeng?”
He couldn’t let Wen Yimeng continue to ask questions. Otherwise, if Zhou Jun wavered, he would have to wait until she turned twenty. He needed to quickly change the topic.
Wen Yimeng raised an eyebrow, looking at Wen Yunqing in confusion. “Hey, Yunqing, you figured it out already?”
The expression on Wen Yunqing’s face didn’t change, and she deftly avoided the trap Lu Zhiming dug. “I only had some suspicions. After all, a certain someone started showing interest when Zhou Jun was still a high school student. I was only suspicious but not certain, so I didn’t tell you.”
If her guess wasn’t wrong, Lu Zhiming was likely the one pulling strings behind the scenes to get Zhou Jun a temporary position in the Special Affairs Department. However, for Zhou Jun’s sake, she wouldn’t expose it, lest Zhou Jun have any second thoughts.
“Ahem, this is my fault. I was the one who didn’t tell you,” Zhou Jun took the blame, preventing Lu Zhiming and Wen Yunqing from starting their usual bickering match. “Since you were so honest about your relationship at the beginning, I thought I should do the same.”
She wasn’t sure what happened between the two of them, but ever since they arrived in Jing City, their relationship had become subtly strange. They constantly enjoyed bickering and setting traps for each other.
“Alright, then let’s have a toast to Zhou Jun and Lu Zhiming getting together?” Wen Yunqing didn’t continue to hold onto Lu Zhiming’s comment and raised the cup in her hand.
“Cheers, let’s toast!”
Wen Yimeng considered it. Actually, the two of them being together was quite good. Zhou Jun now had Teacher Lu to protect her, and as friends, they should be happy. After all, this way, Zhou Jun wouldn’t be bullied because of her family background.
They could toast, but all four cups were filled with juice. After drinking two cups, no one raised their glass again. After all, two cups of juice each made them feel quite full.
Fast forward to the afternoon. Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng sat through three long lectures straight. By the time they returned, it was almost nine o’clock.
In their four-person dorm room, only Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng had identical class schedules. Liang Shiyou and Zhang Pan had different ones.
“That’s strange. Why hasn’t Zhang Pan returned yet? She only had one major lecture tonight,” Liang Shiyou said curiously, pulling out her phone to send her roommate a message.
“Did Zhang Pan have class tonight? Didn’t she say she was going to her part-time job?” Wen Yimeng had already showered and was applying a face mask.
Wen Yunqing very cooperatively brushed the stray hair from Wen Yimeng’s face and took over the face mask, busy working on her girlfriend’s skin.
“She had one elective class,” Liang Shiyou said. After sending the message, she looked at the time again and mumbled, “It’s already past ten. Even if she was working a part-time job, she should be back by now, right?”
