I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 43
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow, and before the girl could touch the Zitan ornament, she moved it directly in front of herself. “I’m sorry, but you came too late. This already belongs to me.”
The girl frowned. She didn’t seem to have anticipated this situation. After a three-second pause, she spoke, “I’ll give you an extra one thousand yuan. Will you sell this to me?”
Oh-ho, she didn’t try to increase the price to the shop assistant directly. It seemed she had some basic common sense after all.
“I quite like this one. I’m not selling,” Wen Yunqing refused.
Wen Yimeng did not join their conversation. Instead, she used the lull to hand her bank card to the clerk, signaling her to process the payment.
“Then I’ll give you two thousand extra. Is that enough?” The girl was unwilling to give up. She had set her heart on this item last week. If her pocket money hadn’t been insufficient, she would have bought it herself long ago!
Wen Yunqing didn’t say anything, turning directly to watch the clerk issue the receipt, then took out a box and placed the Zitan wood carving securely inside.
“Uncle, I want that one,” the girl appealed to her elder when Wen Yunqing ignored her.
The girl’s uncle was relatively young, looking to be in his early thirties. He frowned slightly, looking at the wood carving on the counter, with a trace of disdain in his eyes. “The quality of this carving is very average. Since it’s been bought, switch to a better one.”
“No, I want this one! I like the pattern,” the girl whined playfully.
“Name your price. How much do you want to sell it to us for?” the man asked, simultaneously pulling a cigarette out of a pack and putting it into his mouth.
“Sir, smoking is not permitted in the store,” the clerk offered a timely reminder. Everything in the shop was valuable antique.
The man impatiently clicked his tongue, keeping the cigarette in his mouth without lighting it. “Have you thought about it? How much are you willing to sell it to me for?”
“Five hundred thousand. If you want it, take it.” Wen Yimeng spoke up before Wen Yunqing could. She genuinely liked the item a little, but if some fool was willing to take it off her hands for more than twenty times the price, she would be delighted.
“Five hundred thousand? Are you robbing us? This cost just over twenty thousand!” Hearing the price, the girl became unhappy and immediately changed her mind. “Uncle, I don’t want it anymore. Let’s go buy something at another shop.”
“Five hundred thousand?” The man smiled, speaking as if in jest. “Sure, as long as you dare to accept it, I’ll pay.”
“Why wouldn’t we dare to accept it? Go ahead and pay,” Wen Yunqing replied, looking at the man with a faint smile. He was merely someone who had absorbed a tiny bit of spiritual energy, perhaps only one-fourth as powerful as Lu Zhiming.
The girl seemed to have thought of something unpleasant. She pulled nervously on the man’s sleeve, her face looking rather troubled. “Uncle, forget it. Giving a few thousand extra is fine, but giving five hundred thousand is such a waste for us.”
“It’s fine. Your Uncle here isn’t short on cash.” The man took out his phone and opened his mobile banking app. “Account number?”
Wen Yunqing calmly recited her account number. Only a big fool wouldn’t take money! She wanted to see what would happen if she accepted the money. Would she be haunted by ghosts or something?
The man held the cigarette in his mouth, operated his phone, and quickly transferred five hundred thousand yuan to Wen Yunqing.
Seeing the text message notification confirming the money had arrived, Wen Yunqing readily handed the packaged box to the girl. “Here you go.”
The girl hesitated for a moment, but finally reached out and took it. This was their own greed that caused the trouble; it had nothing to do with her.
The moment the transaction was completed, Wen Yunqing felt a chill on her neck, like cold air from an air conditioner blowing directly onto her skin.
She turned her head slightly and raised an eyebrow. A small doll, about ten centimeters in size, was crawling on her shoulder, mouth agape, struggling to climb toward her neck, seemingly intending to take a bite.
Unfortunately, there was a protective barrier around her body. No matter how hard the little doll tried, it could never reach her skin.
A bit ugly. It looked like a Xiaoguitou (little ghost head) refined from an unborn infant. Wen Yunqing silently criticized the man’s aesthetic taste. Then she lifted her hand and lightly brushed her shoulder twice, as if flicking away dust, making the little ghost head disappear effortlessly.
“Hello, could you please wrap this pair of wood carvings for me?” Wen Yunqing said to the clerk, pointing to a pair of ornaments not far away—a pair of eagles.
“Certainly, please wait a moment, customer.” The clerk’s face lit up with a smile. This pair of eagles was priced at 550,000 yuan. She got a two percent commission, which meant 11,000 yuan!
Seeing Wen Yunqing’s action, the cigarette in the man’s mouth fell to the floor. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, staring at her, unable to speak.
What was going on? Why had his little ghost head disappeared? His instruction was to bite her, so why did it vanish without even biting her?
“Uncle, shall we go?” The girl didn’t know what had happened. She only knew that they had been severely overcharged by the other party, who then used their money to buy better items. They had been completely disgraced!
The man ignored the girl’s words, staring intently at Wen Yunqing’s back. His lips trembled slightly as he silently chanted the spell to summon the little ghost, small beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
By the time Wen Yunqing finished paying and left the delivery address, the man looked at her in a daze, rushed forward, and blocked her path, asking, “Are you from the Association?”
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about? What Association? The Antique Association?”
“You’re not?” Suspicion showed in the man’s eyes. Although the little ghost he released this time was very weak, it still had a few years of spiritual cultivation under its belt. There was no way an ordinary person could have dealt with it!
“Boss, has my order arrived?” Before Wen Yunqing could speak, a clear female voice rang out, and a familiar-looking person walked in.
“Miss Fu?” Wen Yimeng quickly recognized the newcomer.
Fu Sanqiu paused. Her left foot had just crossed the threshold when she met Wen Yunqing’s scrutinizing gaze.
Crap! Did she forget to check the almanac before leaving the house today? Why did she run into this person! She had even specifically checked before entering and found that the only person with spiritual energy was her former defeated foe, Li Ru!
Fu Sanqiu felt a prickling sensation on her scalp. After the auction ended, she had secretly investigated Wen Yunqing. Fu Sanqiu soon discovered that she couldn’t find anything at all. She wasn’t listed in the Association, and the official channels hadn’t reported any new figures recently.
Instinct told Fu Sanqiu that Wen Yunqing was definitely not a novice or a half-baked cultivator, so she adopted an attitude of avoidance. Recently, she had only been active around her own established territory and had not ventured near the wealthy districts at all.
“Ah, Student Wen, long time no see.” Fu Sanqiu forced a smile. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“You two know each other?” The man’s nerves became even more taut when he saw Fu Sanqiu. In a flash, a new idea occurred to him.
The person who looked like a student in front of him was a demon! Once this conclusion was drawn, all his questions were answered. If she was a demon, she definitely wasn’t on the same side as the Association or the officials. It was perfectly normal for his little ghost to have no effect on her.
“What’s wrong, are you out causing trouble again?” When dealing with the man, Fu Sanqiu became much more assertive.
The reason was simple: the man in front of her was her defeated foe from a long time ago. Years ago, when the man was still a novice, he arrogantly tried to gain a foothold in the Association by using internal information to take her down.
The result, needless to say, was that the man was severely beaten by her. To avoid attracting pursuit from the Association, Fu Sanqiu barely spared his life.
“No, no, it’s all a misunderstanding,” the man immediately changed his attitude. His previous disdain and contempt vanished, and the smile on his face could even be called fawning.
“So they are Miss Fu’s friends! Then it seems it was all a misunderstanding.” The man said. One Fu Sanqiu was enough to deal with him; if there was another demon, he estimated he wouldn’t even have bones left.
“I suddenly remembered that I have a very important matter to attend to. I’ll take my leave first. Goodbye.” After finding an excuse, the man immediately pulled the girl and left, running as far away as possible.
Fu Sanqiu and Wen Yunqing exchanged quick glances, and after confirming that the other held no hostility towards her, Fu Sanqiu let out half a sigh of relief and continued walking towards the counter.
“Five months ago, I placed an order with your boss for a batch of antique copper coins. He told me yesterday that the goods had arrived, and asked me to come pick them up.” Fu Sanqiu said, pulling out something resembling a receipt.
“Hello, Miss Fu. The boss informed us. Please wait a moment.” Although the clerk was curious about the relationship between these people, she maintained her professional integrity and didn’t ask.
Once the clerk left, besides the cashier standing by, only Fu Sanqiu and the two Wen girls remained.
To demonstrate her goodwill, Fu Sanqiu wore a gentle and friendly smile.
Curiosity showed in Wen Yimeng’s eyes. After a moment’s hesitation, she asked, “Miss Fu, may I ask what you use these antique copper coins for?”
“Naturally… for collecting. I recently heard that these things will increase in value, so I bought a batch in advance to hoard,” Fu Sanqiu said. This little girl seemed to be an ordinary person, so it was best not to let anything slip.
“Collecting?” Wen Yunqing smiled. “It just so happens that I also want to buy some copper coins. I wonder if Miss Fu would be willing to share some with me?”
Copper coins could be used for warding off evil, making magical artifacts, and divination; their uses were many. Since they were already here, it would be a pity not to buy some.
Fu Sanqiu let out a dry laugh. “Of course, but how many coins do you need, Student Wen?” Damn it, she definitely didn’t check the almanac before leaving home today!
“Not many, just half the batch,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile. “That should be possible, right?”
“Of course it’s possible,” Fu Sanqiu maintained her smile, though in reality, she felt so distressed she wanted to bite her tail and cry!
