I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 38
The next day, upon seeing the dark circles under Father Wen’s eyes, Wen Yunqing laughed without giving him any face.
“Dad, didn’t you sleep well last night? Why do you look so listless?” Wen Yunqing asked, making no effort to hide the schadenfreude on her face.
Father Wen glared at Wen Yunqing. “Did you say something to your mother last night?”
“Hmm?” Wen Yunqing blinked innocently. “I just asked Mom some things I didn’t quite understand. What’s wrong? Could your dark circles possibly be related to the questions I asked yesterday?”
“…” This was simply feigning ignorance! This little brat, sneaking around to complain! Was she really his biological daughter?!
“Dad, could it be that Mom kicked you out of the master bedroom last night?” Wen Yunqing couldn’t help but laugh again. “I think you should learn your lesson. Next time you have something important, it’s probably better to discuss it with Mom.”
Father Wen gripped his chopsticks tightly, constantly reminding himself internally: This is my biological daughter, my biological daughter; she is the child my wife loves. I cannot hit her, cannot hit her.
After a long while, Father Wen finally exhaled slowly. “I drank too much last night. What I said shouldn’t be taken seriously.”
“Other things can be disregarded, but the matter of the start-up capital and shares you promised us must be taken seriously!” Wen Yunqing responded quickly.
“…” Father Wen almost lost it again. Did this little brat even consider him her father? Did her eyes only see his money?!
“Of course, it’s serious. When you come of age, I will also give you some shares as a coming-of-age gift,” Mother Wen said as she walked down the stairs in her pajamas, throwing Father Wen a look that clearly said, figure it out yourself.
Wen Yunqing reined in her smile slightly. “No need, Mom. Keep your shares for yourself! Once we come of age, we’ll go out and make our own way, earning lots of money for you to use!”
The corner of Mother Wen’s mouth curved upwards significantly, her mood wonderfully comfortable. “One thing at a time. I gave shares to Wen Han when he came of age, and I will give them to you as well.”
Father Wen remained silent on the side. He was also the one providing the money and effort, so why did both of the children start favoring their mother and not him, their father?
After the tragedy of sleeping in the study, Father Wen completely abandoned the idea of a marriage alliance with the Luo family, deciding to wait and see their subsequent development before making a decision.
After taking some time to finalize the investment in the jewelry shop, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng returned to school. With the announcement of the city’s first mock exam, they were forced into the rigor of studying.
With the class teacher replaced by the Chinese Language teacher, the learning atmosphere in the class clearly intensified. As the last major class period was converted into self-study, everyone felt pressure to some degree.
This included those planning to study abroad. Although the college entrance examination wouldn’t affect which school they applied to, necessary IELTS preparations and targeted courses were being thrown at them by their respective parents.
“Should we still go to Xinshi City tomorrow?” Wen Yunqing sighed, looking at the ten neatly stacked exam papers in her hand.
Wen Yimeng also sighed softly. “Let’s forget it. Exams are coming up, and studying is the priority. We can always start once we come of age.”
Ten exam papers, even if done seriously, would take at least one and a half hours each. That meant they needed to dedicate seven and a half hours every day during the two-day weekend to studying.
“What is going on? Why is the homework so much now?” Except for a few top students, the majority of the students were lamenting.
“Was the high school life for seniors at Ruihua always like this?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Wen Yimeng shook her head. “As far as I know, the high school life for the students in the graduating class before us didn’t differ much from their sophomore year. The last extracurricular development course was never canceled either.”
Wen Yunqing nodded. She suddenly recalled what Lu Zhiming had said. Although Ruihua was safe now, because so many supernatural beings had appeared there, the magnetic field was somewhat chaotic and required a long time to slowly recover.
What Wen Yunqing saw as the “magnetic field” was just the mixing of spiritual energy and various other forces. Ruihua’s sudden focus on academics was likely an attempt to cultivate academic fortune to wash away the existing negative magnetic field.
The better the students’ current academic performance, the greater their future achievements would be. If one or two individuals with great fortune emerged from these students, Ruihua could benefit from some of their luck.
Wen Yunqing’s guess was very close to the truth. Ruihua needed not only academic fortune but also vibrant, positive energy to eliminate certain after-effects.
What was the most positive and upward-looking behavior for students? Naturally, it was studying hard!
Of course, even if Wen Yunqing figured it out, it wouldn’t change the fact that she was about to be tied down by studying. Looking at the almost semi-monthly schedule of mock exams, even her photographic memory was struggling to keep up.
After all, for science subjects, changing just one or two descriptive words could alter the entire problem-solving process.
First mock exam, second mock exam, third mock exam! Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng’s scores predictably stabilized in the top five of the grade and the top twenty in the entire city.
As a month and a half elapsed, the birthday celebration for Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng was put on the agenda.
Because they were going to officially announce their relationship at the banquet, nearly everyone who had collaborated with Father Wen was invited this time, with the attendance reaching over one hundred people.
“In a moment, Yimeng, just hold Yunqing’s hand, show yourselves, and that will be enough,” Mother Wen instructed them in the back, occasionally helping to adjust their clothes.
Wen Yunqing had always kept her hair short. Considering her features and height, she chose not to wear a dress this time but wore a dark suit, making her look much more composed than usual, like someone in her early twenties.
As for Wen Yimeng, she chose a red dress. The design was simple, effectively highlighting the advantages of her long legs and beautiful collarbone. Paired with lightly curled hair, she also looked like an adult.
“These are my two precious daughters, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng,” Father Wen said, standing on the stage with a very sincere smile. “I will present each of them with 5% of the company’s shares. If they are willing, they can enter the company’s management after graduating from university.”
Although Father Wen had entertained the idea of a marriage alliance, he was not overly patriarchal. As long as they were his children, they all had the right to inherit the company.
Of course, Wen Han’s age destined him to have an advantage, but if he were to be surpassed by his two sisters under those circumstances, Father Wen wouldn’t mind passing the family business to the more outstanding individual.
As soon as Father Wen spoke, many people present began running their own calculations. Whether they had the right to inherit was crucial. If they inherited the family business, they might become equals with the current power players.
“Director Wen, are you suggesting that your family business will be contested by these three children in the future?” An executive who was somewhat at odds with Father Wen spoke up. “Don’t you have a son? Wouldn’t it be easier to just give it to him?”
Father Wen chuckled. “Nowadays, we talk about gender equality. I don’t hold any archaic views, so naturally, it goes to whoever is most outstanding.”
Besides, if he didn’t say this, he probably wouldn’t be allowed to sleep in the master bedroom for a month. Regardless, they were all his children, and no matter who inherited the company, he wouldn’t be mistreated, so he would just let it be.
“President Wen is truly keeping up with the times,” the executive said with a smile.
In his opinion, Father Wen was a bit foolish. Unless the son was truly hopeless, how could the family business be given to a daughter? What if she married someone else? Wouldn’t that mean giving away everything he had painstakingly built up? He certainly wouldn’t do that.
“President Wen, can both of your daughters receive your shares? If I recall correctly, one of them must have been accidentally switched at birth, right?” Once Father Wen stepped down, Li Wei began speaking in a mocking tone.
The relationship between the Li and Wen families was at a critical point. Last time, his daughter was bullied by Wen Yunqing, and those two brats had embarrassed Li Shi at the charity gala.
Why would he suddenly have a stomach problem and make a fool of himself? It must have been those two little devils plotting in the dark to make the Li family lose face in front of everyone!
“I will emphasize again: both Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng are my children, Wen Deming’s children, and I treat them equally,” Father Wen said, still wearing a smile.
“If I’m not mistaken, President Li, your child’s performance in school hasn’t been great lately. I heard she didn’t even rank.”
“Unlike my children, who consistently rank in the city’s top twenty and will probably be going to Jingda University in a few months,” Father Wen said with a smile, directly stepping on Li Wei’s painful point.
Jingda University, as a top-tier university, could not be entered simply by throwing money at it. To give a simple example, among the numerous guests present, the number of children who could pass the exam for Jingda was likely only a single digit.
Li Wei was thoroughly infuriated, yet he couldn’t refute it, especially since Li Ruolan’s grades had worsened after transferring schools. He would be grateful if she could even get into a decent second-tier university.
The argument between the adults did not affect the two people who had quietly slipped away. They accurately spotted their friend at the banquet and pulled her to the balcony for some fresh air.
“This is the gift you prepared?” Wen Yunqing asked, looking at the USB drive in her hand and raising an eyebrow at Zhou Juan. “What’s in here? Please don’t tell me it’s study materials.”
“Part of it is, and the other part is e-books I found for you,” Zhou Juan said. “The college entrance exam is in a little over a month. We can’t slack off.”
“I know. Why didn’t you give Yimeng a USB drive?” Wen Yunqing asked. “My scores are very close to Yimeng’s now.”
Zhou Juan pursed her lips and handed the bracelet she had chosen to Wen Yimeng. “You have always helped me, and I am very grateful to you. This is my heartfelt token.”
Zhou Juan was indeed grateful to Wen Yunqing, but she was even more grateful to Wen Yimeng, the person who had consistently cared for her in a special way.
“You’re welcome. Mutual help between classmates is normal,” Wen Yimeng said without being overly modest, quickly accepting the gift.
Before the two could exchange more than a few words, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng were hauled back to the main area to make a wish and blow out the candles in front of the cake.
Li Wei didn’t show any abnormality in front of the younger generation. He stood on the side with the crowd, occasionally raising his wine glass to take a sip.
Wen Yimeng secretly glanced at Wen Yunqing before closing her eyes to make a wish: I hope our family continues to be this good, and that Wen Yunqing is always this kind to me.
Wen Yunqing’s wish was very simple: I hope Yimeng accepts me soon! And then we can get married right away!
