I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 33
Fu Sanqiu believed her exit was very elegant and composed, but in Wen Yunqing’s eyes, it looked more like a desperate escape.
Wen Yimeng hadn’t heard the two of them whispering, so she was quite happy to have acquired Fu Sanqiu’s contact information and carefully placed it in her small bag.
“Want to play around a bit longer or go home?” After scaring Fu Sanqiu, Wen Yunqing felt much more relaxed.
“Let’s go home. Those celebrities aren’t all that special,” Wen Yimeng said. After seeing their true appearances, the slight idealization she’d had was mostly shattered.
The banquet hadn’t ended yet. As Wen Yunqing held Wen Yimeng’s hand and walked towards the main entrance, a woman approached them. She seemed immersed in her own world, walking with her head bowed.
Just as the two were about to collide, Wen Yunqing stopped first and slightly stepped aside, giving way.
However, the woman, for reasons unknown, changed her direction when Wen Yunqing moved, and walked directly into her.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” the woman apologized before even getting up from the floor where she’d fallen.
“It’s fine.” Wen Yunqing took two steps back this time, intending to walk around the woman.
“Can you help me?” Before Wen Yunqing could walk past, the woman sitting on the ground spoke up with a weeping voice. “Can you take me away? I don’t want to stay here.”
Hearing the woman’s words, Wen Yunqing immediately retreated two big steps, pulling Wen Yimeng with her. “The door is right here. If you want to leave, just stand up and walk two steps.”
“But, but if I leave like this, I’ll be blacklisted,” the woman said, crying.
She had carefully observed before coming here: these two young girls had come to the banquet without an accompanying elder. Such girls, who hadn’t been polished by society, were the most empathetic—the best candidates for her to seek help from.
“What does that have to do with me?” Wen Yunqing said unsympathetically. She wasn’t some kind of overly kind person. Besides, it was obvious this woman was deliberately setting them up, trying to drag them into trouble.
The woman quietly sobbed. “I apologize, it’s my fault. I really have no choice. They insisted on making me drink, getting me drunk, and even said…”
“Stop. I don’t want to hear that,” Wen Yunqing’s impression of the woman worsened. She immediately pulled Wen Yimeng, intending to leave.
“Is no one really willing to save me?” The woman seemed to give up, sitting on the floor and crying with her head down.
Wen Yimeng felt a pang of pity at the sight. She gently squeezed Wen Yunqing’s hand and softly said, “Are we just going to leave? I think I saw her on TV before. The supporting role she played was quite good.”
Wen Yunqing looked at the quietly weeping woman, then at the look of unwillingness on Wen Yimeng’s face. She sighed internally. Her little darling is still too kind.
“Who is forcing you to drink?” Wen Yunqing finally asked. Since Yimeng wanted to help, then she would help. Otherwise, if Yimeng saw this person suffer later, she would likely blame herself.
“You’re willing to help me?” The woman had been despairing, but she hadn’t expected such a turn of events.
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “Just answer my question.”
“It’s the general manager of Yunhan. He forced me to drink, saying he’d have me blacklisted if I didn’t,” the woman wept. “My mother still needs me to earn money. If I get blacklisted, I won’t have money to save my mother.”
“Yunhan is an entertainment company. If I remember correctly, it seems to be an enterprise owned by Li Ruolan’s uncle,” Wen Yimeng whispered. “I heard her mention it before.”
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow, suddenly interested. “Do we just need to make an appearance? Can you handle the rest yourself?”
The woman stood up from the floor and nodded vigorously, giving a firm affirmative answer. “As long as no one blacklists me, I can earn enough money in another six months, and then I’ll retire from the industry.”
Wen Yunqing knew this woman intended to exploit Wen Yimeng’s kindness, but seeing her sincerity, and considering the opponent was someone from the Li family, she decided to lend a hand.
“I’ll give you ten minutes. Take me to see Li Shi,” Wen Yunqing said, turning to Wen Yimeng. “Yimeng, wait for me here for a moment. I’ll handle this quickly.”
“Can you solve it alone?” Wen Yimeng was worried. She would be facing cunning, old foxes of the business world.
“Don’t worry. Ten minutes, tops,” Wen Yunqing said confidently.
Li Shi was the youngest child of this generation of the Li family. Although he was Li Ruolan’s uncle, he was only twelve years older than her, just turning thirty now.
Logically, thirty should be a man’s prime—having shed the naivety of youth while maintaining an outstanding appearance and possessing a mature and steady demeanor.
But upon seeing Li Shi, Wen Yunqing couldn’t help but frown. If she hadn’t known his age beforehand, she would have guessed Li Shi was over forty.
His face was clearly yellowed and weak, and his pot belly was prominently sticking out. This did not look like a man of thirty.
Li Ruolan is at least passable-looking, so why is her uncle in this state? No wonder this unknown celebrity didn’t want to drink with him. Any celebrity with a shred of decency would refuse a person like this.
Seeing the celebrity return, Li Shi smiled. “I told you that you’d regret it. Since you’ve come to your senses, first drink three cups as a penalty.”
With that, Li Shi picked up a bottle of red wine and filled the three tall glasses in front of him. “Drink these, and I’ll overlook your earlier offense towards me.”
The celebrity didn’t say anything but stepped back, standing half a step behind Wen Yunqing.
“I am Wen Yunqing. You must be Li Ruolan’s classmate’s uncle, right?” Wen Yunqing wore a perfunctory smile. There’s no need for me to deal with a person like this. He’ll take care of himself soon enough.
Why? Naturally, because he was afflicted by several small ghosts. The little ghosts who could follow Li Shi even in such a crowded venue were likely related to him by blood.
No wonder Li Shi looked like this at thirty. It was already a miracle he was still alive after being entangled by seven or eight little ghosts.
“You’re from the Wen family?” Li Shi quickly deduced Wen Yunqing’s origin from her name.
“I didn’t realize I was so famous. Then I’ll be direct,” Wen Yunqing didn’t waste any more time. “I quite like the dramas she acts in and want to have a good chat with her tonight. Uncle Li, you shouldn’t mind me cutting in, should you?”
Li Shi chuckled when he heard that. “Tonight might not work. I already made plans with her. How about we talk tomorrow?”
She’s just a junior from the Wen family. He didn’t need to be too wary, especially since she had only been back for less than six months; how much influence could she possibly have?
“Uncle Li is unwilling to part with her?” Wen Yunqing asked, silently drawing a Bad Luck Talisman and casting it onto Li Shi.
It seems the Wen family isn’t powerful enough yet to serve as my backer. Sure enough, everything relies on oneself.
“It’s not that I’m unwilling, but…” Li Shi hadn’t finished his sentence when he felt his abdomen churn. Accompanied by a loud poof—a terrible stench diffused around him.
“I…” Poof—another loud sound.
Li Shi’s face turned bright red. He desperately clamped his buttocks together, ignoring Wen Yunqing, and ran towards the restroom.
“It looks like Uncle Li won’t be able to find you tonight. You should go back first,” Wen Yunqing said, having retreated a significant distance when Li Shi passed gas, maintaining a safe gap.
The celebrity nodded fiercely. “Thank you. This is my contact information. You can find me for anything you need in the future! I can do anything you ask!”
“Including murder and arson?” Wen Yunqing asked. Her gaze was incredibly penetrating, making the celebrity feel that all her small schemes had been seen through.
The celebrity’s face flushed with embarrassment, a hint of shame in her eyes. “Anything that’s not illegal, I can do. I can also repay you with money later.”
“Alright. Just focus on your acting. You should be grateful that Yimeng watched your work and actually quite liked it,” Wen Yunqing didn’t want to bother with the person in front of her. After all, the instigator was the one who ran away with clamped buttocks, not her.
“Thank you, thank you!” The celebrity bowed three times repeatedly, seriously checked the items on her body, then forced her most valuable bracelet into Wen Yunqing’s hand, and quickly left through the side door.
Wen Yunqing looked at the bracelet that had suddenly appeared in her hand and smiled slightly.
Sure enough, humans are fickle and complex creatures. The woman had clearly intended to use her initially, yet in the end, she had regained her lost sense of shame and genuinely thanked her.
Forget it. Doing a good deed once in a while isn’t a bad thing.
“What is this?” Wen Yimeng asked curiously in the car, looking at the bracelet in Wen Yunqing’s palm.
“It’s from that small celebrity. It should be considered a thank you gift,” Wen Yunqing said.
“What about Li Shi? Did he give you trouble?” Wen Yimeng asked.
Wen Yunqing thought for a moment. “He might have wanted to, but I think he ate something bad today. He ran off to the restroom before he could even say much.”
A question mark popped up in Wen Yimeng’s head. Ate something bad? The food at the banquet was catered by a famous hospitality group; there shouldn’t have been any issues.
“These are all unimportant matters,” Wen Yunqing said. “The important thing is that I have a new realization.”
“What realization?” Wen Yimeng asked curiously.
“Relying on others is worse than relying on oneself. It would be better if we had some industries of our own,” Wen Yunqing said, her tone quite serious. “It doesn’t need to be too much, just enough so that our total output value exceeds the current Wen family’s.”
