I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 21
The commotion caused by the Li family’s drama ensured that news regarding Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng spread throughout their social circle. Although people did not comment publicly, they were all very clear about the Wen family’s private matters and were extremely curious as to why the two girls could still get along so harmoniously under such circumstances.
Meanwhile, a thick stack of documents appeared on a desk in a certain office. It contained detailed information about Wen Yunqing, tracing everything that could be investigated about her, from her birth to the present.
“Received one hundred thousand, then wired out one hundred thousand?” Shen Ling slightly frowned as he looked at the file. “Why hasn’t this matter been fully investigated?”
“Captain, that final one hundred thousand fell into the hands of a few small-time thugs. They aren’t in the city right now, so their whereabouts are uncertain,” the young police officer replied.
“The file looks fine for now. You can put Wen Yunqing’s matter aside,” Shen Ling said, putting the documents away. “There’s a message from the capital. People from the Xuan Sect seem to be heading our way recently. Have the team members pay close attention, increase night patrols, and report any anomalies immediately.”
“Yes, I guarantee the mission will be completed!” The officer straightened his back, feeling an uncontrollable excitement in his heart. He had been assigned to this department for over a year, and was he finally going to deal with those strange things?
In the blink of an eye, it was Monday. Wen Yunqing tightly gripped Wen Yimeng’s hand and walked brazenly through the front entrance. She deliberately walked past the podium before letting go of her hand and moving to her seat.
Wen Yimeng felt a little helpless; she hadn’t intended for such a display. But Wen Yunqing’s grip was simply too strong. She couldn’t break free and could only let her have her way.
“Yimeng, did you hear? Li Ruolan seems to have switched classes. She’s transferring to Class Three.” After Wen Yimeng sat down, her new desk mate immediately began sharing the news.
“Let her switch. Whatever she’s doing now has nothing to do with me,” Wen Yimeng said, taking out the books needed for the next class.
Even if Wen Yunqing was full of outrageous nonsense and loved to take advantage of her, she was undeniably sincere towards her—far better than Li Ruolan.
“It’s good that you see it that way,” her new desk mate said with great relief. “Oh, right. The class monitor is planning a class outing soon. Do you want to join?”
“Isn’t New Year’s Day coming up? Is there no New Year’s performance this time?” Wen Yimeng asked.
“It seems a few major board directors can’t make it, so it was canceled,” the desk mate explained. “The class monitor plans to take us to his family’s resort. We can watch the sunrise together and welcome the new year.”
Wen Yimeng nodded. “Since it’s a class activity, of course, I’ll go.”
“Then what about your… cousin? Is she going to go too?” the desk mate asked. Her main task was to inquire about Wen Yunqing’s situation. After all, the previous incident was a bit frightening, making everyone afraid to approach her casually.
“Hmm, if I go, there’s a ninety percent chance she’ll go. I’ll ask her after class,” Wen Yimeng said. If nothing unexpected happened, Wen Yunqing would not only go but would also actively try to get the same room as her.
Wen Yimeng’s guess was correct. When she checked with Wen Yunqing, the latter agreed instantly and even asked about the room arrangements.
“It’s usually two people per room so you can look out for each other,” the class monitor chimed in, leaning over. “There are two types of rooms: standard twin or large double beds. Which one do you want?”
“Large double bed!” Wen Yunqing’s eyes lit up!
“Class monitor, we’ll take the standard twin,” Wen Yimeng glared at Wen Yunqing. “Please help us choose a room with a good view, class monitor.”
“Ah, so it’s the standard twin then?” the class monitor asked tentatively, secretly observing the expression on Wen Yunqing’s face.
Wen Yunqing showed obvious disappointment, but she did not object to Wen Yimeng’s decision.
“I’ll post the arrangements in the class group later. Pay attention, okay?” The class monitor understood: Wen Yunqing was fierce, that was true, but she also listened very closely to Wen Yimeng. Next time, he could just go directly through Wen Yimeng!
This year’s New Year’s Day fell on a Thursday. After some discussion, Teacher Ruihua decided to fully implement quality education by giving them a five-day break starting from Wednesday, granting the students ample vacation time.
“I’ve packed your things. There are four changes of clothes inside,” Mom Wen said, having taken over the task of packing luggage after hearing the two were going to a resort.
“Oh, right. I’ll have Old Wen transfer one hundred thousand to your cards later. Take these five days to relax properly,” Mom Wen said, asking Wen Han to retrieve two suitcases, one black and one white.
“Thank you, Mom,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile, unceremoniously grabbing both suitcases without even sparing Wen Han a glance.
Wen Yimeng gave up on carrying her own luggage and waved goodbye to the two of them. “Mom, Big Brother, we’re leaving.”
“Yimeng, if she bullies you, you call me!” Wen Han replied. As soon as he finished speaking, he received a smack on the head.
“Who bullies who?” Mom Wen frowned and asked.
Wen Han shrank his neck. “I meant, if she is bullied by other classmates, call me.”
“If that’s what you mean, then be clearer next time, understand?” Mom Wen said sternly. She couldn’t understand why her two daughters could get along so well, yet Wen Han couldn’t get along with Wen Yunqing, even though they were siblings.
“I know,” Wen Han yielded to the authority of his mother.
The class monitor’s family resort was located in a famous scenic area in the next city. During its development, they boldly took over an entire mountainside, not only creating the resort itself but also setting up many suitable recreational facilities.
“These are your room cards. Two in total. Don’t lose them,” the class monitor handed two identical room cards to Wen Yimeng. “We’ll eat dinner at the restaurant halfway up the mountain at five o’clock. It’s about three kilometers from us. You can either drive or walk.”
Wen Yimeng nodded, looked at the two cards in her hand, and then handed the one on her left to Wen Yunqing. “Keep this safe.”
Wen Yunqing took it and tucked it into her pants pocket, then pushed the two suitcases into the room. “It’s only three o’clock. Want to take a nap?”
“I’m not sleepy. I want to organize my things,” Wen Yimeng said, opening her suitcase and starting to arrange her clothes.
The room had only one closet. Wen Yimeng chose the bed by the window and hung her clothes on the right side of the closet.
Five minutes later, Wen Yimeng neatly placed her belongings in the room. Seeing Wen Yunqing still lying motionless on the bed, she poked her leg with her hand. “Aren’t you going to organize your stuff?”
“My things are quite tidy in the suitcase. We can deal with them when I need them,” Wen Yunqing propped herself up to sit. “Or, could you organize them for me?”
“Dream on!” Wen Yimeng glared at her, turned around, and went to the bathroom to wash her hands.
After taking a breath of the fresh air outside, she decided to skip the shuttle bus and walk to the dining area with her small cross-body bag.
Since Wen Yimeng chose to walk, Wen Yunqing naturally followed her. They hadn’t walked two steps before Wen Yunqing familiarly took hold of her left hand, their palms naturally touching and their fingers interlocking.
After a token struggle, Wen Yimeng let her be, shifting her attention to the natural scenery by the roadside and admiring the mountains in the distance that had various shapes.
Before she could enjoy the green mountains, clear water, and the singing of birds and scent of flowers, Wen Yimeng shivered and leaned toward Wen Yunqing. “Bug! There’s a bug on the ground!”
“What kind of bug?” Wen Yunqing looked in the direction she pointed, seeing an arthropod crawling on the path. “This is a pristine forest. It’s normal to have bugs. If you’re scared, how about I walk on the inside?”
Wen Yimeng agreed without any hesitation. “Okay, I’ll walk on the outside.”
Wen Yunqing let go of her hand. Before she could proactively grab Wen Yimeng’s right hand with her left, she found her hand already clasped.
“Let’s walk faster. There are many trees here, so there are probably many bugs too,” Wen Yimeng’s focus was still on the insects, completely unaware that this time, she was the one who had proactively grabbed Wang Xi’s hand.
“Okay,” Wen Yunqing lowered her head to look at her clasped hand, the smile at the corner of her mouth beginning to widen.
The three-kilometer distance was not long, and since the path was generally downhill, even though the two were moving slowly, they arrived at the dining area ten minutes before five o’clock.
To ensure a more casual atmosphere during dinner, the boys and girls were separated into two private rooms. The girls in the room immediately straightened their postures when they saw Wen Yunqing, and none of them spoke first to greet her.
Wen Yimeng’s desk mate glanced at their clasped hands and was the first to speak. “Come, there are empty seats here, Yimeng. Come sit down.”
“Okay, thank you,” Wen Yimeng said, slightly embarrassed, pulling Wen Yunqing to sit down. It seemed dragging someone out was indeed quite terrifying.
With the desk mate taking the initiative to speak, the atmosphere in the room gradually became more lively. When it was time for the dishes to be served, they realized that two people were still missing.
“I called Su Ning, but she didn’t answer,” a girl said. “She and Zhou Jun are sharing a room. I saw them heading down the mountain before I got on the bus.”
“Yimeng, do you have Zhou Jun’s contact information?” the desk mate asked.
“Yes, I’ll call Zhou Jun.” Wen Yimeng said, taking out her phone and immediately dialing the number.
A female voice quickly came through the receiver. “Sorry, the user you are dialing is out of the service area. Please try again later. Sorry…”
“Out of the service area?” Wen Yimeng frowned at her phone. “Is there no signal here?”
“No way. This is an already developed scenic area. I saw a base station on the way,” someone interjected. “What about Su Ning? Is she also out of the service area?”
Su Ning’s friend quickly called again and said, “Ten minutes ago, it prompted that she wasn’t answering, but now it’s also saying she’s out of the service area.”
“Could they have taken the wrong path?”
“That shouldn’t be possible. There’s only one main road down the mountain. There’s no reason for them to take a small path, right?”
Hearing the students’ discussion, Wen Yimeng poked Wang Xi’s hand. “Zhou Jun is a very punctual person. If something hadn’t happened, she wouldn’t be late. Should we go look for her?”
“Okay, but I can go alone,” Wang Xi said, standing up. “I have good stamina, and I can find people quickly.”
Recalling her excellent three-kilometer run time, Wen Yimeng didn’t stop her. “Okay. Be careful, and keep in touch.”
Wang Xi gave an OK gesture and promised, “Don’t worry. I’ll be back in an hour at most!”
