I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 118
By the time Wen Yunqing returned home, the summer vacation was practically over. Before they could further test their hypotheses about the family, the two grabbed their suitcases and boarded the plane.
“Mom, we’ll come back to see you for National Day,” Wen Yunqing said at the boarding gate, gently hugging her mother. “At that time, I might introduce you to a rather special person.”
Wen Mother’s eyebrows arched slightly. “Is that person the kind of person your mother suspects?”
Wen Yunqing smiled without answering directly. “Perhaps. When that time comes, Mom, you must remember not to kick us out.”
After speaking, Wen Yunqing flashed an utterly sweet smile, then grasped Wen Yimeng’s hand and naturally kissed her.
Wen Yimeng instinctively looked back at her mother, forcing a stiff smile, and then immediately pinched the skin on Wen Yunqing’s waist. “What are you doing?”
“Just kissing you. No big deal,” Wen Yunqing said with a grin, waving her hand toward her mother. “Mom, we’ll see you when we get back for National Day.”
The smile on Wen Mother’s face remained, but the emotion in her eyes became complex. Although she had guessed, confirming it was a whole other matter.
More than the fact that her two daughters were together, Wen Mother actually worried more about them getting together and then breaking up. After all, sisters could always reconcile after fighting, but if lovers separated, they might never speak again for life.
Wen Mother’s smile stayed put, and she waved her hand.
Forget it. Let the young people worry about their own affairs. If things didn’t work out, she would just leave them plenty of shares and real estate so they could still live well even if they broke up.
“Now, even if Mom didn’t know before, she definitely knows now,” Wen Yimeng looked slightly distraught. “Is it really okay for us to just leave like this? Doesn’t it look like we’re fleeing?”
“How could it be? This is us being honest before leaving,” Wen Yunqing’s reasoning was sound. “The next time we return will be in half a month. By then, Mom will have long since processed the news of us being together. If she is still willing to pick us up, that means she agrees!”
Wen Yimeng wanted to object, but on second thought, she realized this was a good method. Half a month was certainly enough time for calm reflection.
“Don’t worry, Mom just waved to us, so there shouldn’t be any major problems,” Wen Yunqing was in a great mood. Since her mother had accepted seven or eight tenths of the situation, should she start thinking about the wedding?
Oh, right, she hasn’t officially proposed yet. Should she propose during the Chinese New Year and hold the wedding at graduation?
Half a year seemed a bit short for preparation. Maybe propose at graduation and then prepare for a year before getting married?
On the plane, while Wen Yimeng was still worrying about her mother’s reaction, Wen Yunqing was already letting her imagination run wild, envisioning their future. She even planned a hundred years ahead.
If the world was still heading toward destruction by then, she would prepare a small island and some puppet people, and they would simply retire from the world.
When Wen Yimeng died naturally, she would sink the entire island into the sea with her.
As Law students in their final year, Wen Yunqing and the others had very few classes and had basically entered the internship phase. Students aiming to become lawyers were already beginning to take on cases and lawsuits.
Although they hadn’t graduated yet, they had secured the necessary certifications. With mentors available for guidance, everyone was eager to show off their skills.
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng founded a Law Firm while selectively taking on one or two cases. In a case involving a father accused of domestic abuse against a child, they became the defense attorneys for the defendant.
To be honest, neither of them liked defending the perpetrator of domestic violence, but since the case was in their hands, they had to seriously study it and fight for the rights he deserved.
“Yimeng, there seems to be a small issue with this case,” Wen Yunqing noticed something amiss after studying the documents for a while. “If the victim is a stepdaughter, I think the matter might not be as simple as domestic abuse.”
“You mean…” Wen Yimeng frowned. “The child is only twelve years old; it shouldn’t be that, should it?”
“Hard to say. The files state that the community committee discovered the anomaly first and filed the lawsuit after several months of in-depth investigation,” Wen Yunqing flipped through the paper documents. “The physical examination report here is also vague; many details are not listed…”
“Did the community intentionally conceal information?” Wen Yimeng was surprised. “Why would they do that?”
“Is there a possibility that they wanted to protect the child?” Wen Yunqing asked, her expression serious. If her guess was true, the stepfather was truly worse than a beast.
Using her identity as the defense attorney, Wen Yunqing proactively contacted the stepfather. Seeing his cowardly yet greedy behavior, her heart sank.
It seemed her bad premonition was true; the man was indeed worse than a beast.
After returning from meeting the defendant, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng made a decision. They would put in twelve points of effort to defend this defendant—to ensure he got a life sentence!
Since the case involved the privacy of a minor girl, Wen Yunqing first contacted the plaintiff’s lawyer. Discovering that their concealment was indeed to protect the child, she immediately formed a partnership with them.
The trial involved a minor, so apart from those already in the know, no one else would be present. They didn’t need to hold back on presenting evidence and arguing, aiming straight for the maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Thus, a dramatic scene unfolded when the court opened. Wen Yunqing, the defense attorney, began arguing by furiously backstabbing the defendant she was supposed to defend, leaving the female judge completely stunned.
Ignoring the defendant’s maniacal abuse and roaring, Wen Yunqing managed to increase the original seven-year sentence to twenty years. Had the defendant not been caught in an attempted coercion [sexual assault], Wen Yunqing was confident she would have secured him a lifetime of tears behind bars.
After the first trial, the defendant demanded a change of attorney, adamant that Wen Yunqing not represent him.
Wen Yunqing didn’t pursue the matter. Instead, she handed all the files over to the next attorney in charge—Wen Yimeng.
In the second trial, Wen Yimeng nearly replicated Wen Yunqing’s performance. Since the prison term was already capped, she focused maniacally on securing the girl’s rights, ultimately getting the judge to transfer fifty percent of the defendant’s real estate and fixed deposits to her name.
The defendant was truly driven mad with rage, but unfortunately, he had no further opportunity to appeal. He was immediately sent to prison to begin the rest of his life.
To finish the good deed, Wen Yunqing contacted the Foundation to follow up on the matter.
Although the trial was not public, many people followed Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng. Some individuals quietly dropped their plans to collaborate with their law firm after seeing the judgment.
Conversely, many respectable people found their way to the firm, wanting to establish a relationship with Wen Yunqing to improve their corporate image in the government’s eyes.
Since it would be foolish not to make money, Wen Yunqing naturally didn’t turn away partners. She quickly established legal cooperation agreements with many well-known enterprises, giving the law firm, established less than a month prior, a brilliant debut in Jing City.
Because they spent some time dealing with the firm, by the time Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng returned home, half of the National Day holiday had passed.
Wen Mother had long prepared herself for the two girls’ confession. When they returned hand-in-hand and sat before her to reintroduce each other, her expression was very calm.
“Mom, allow me to introduce my future companion, Wen Yimeng,” Wen Yunqing said openly. “Mom, you watched Yimeng grow up; I don’t need to tell you about her good qualities, do I?”
“Ahem—” Wen Yimeng gently coughed, signaling Wen Yunqing to restrain herself. They were confessing! Not showing off! Be modest!
“Mom, Yunqing and I being together was a decision made after careful consideration. We will support each other and walk this path together,” Wen Yimeng’s confession was much more standard. “In the future, there is a ninety percent chance we won’t have children, and a ten percent chance we might adopt one or two. You don’t need to worry about our future.”
Wen Mother’s gaze softened. “Have you thought it all through?”
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng nodded together. “We have confirmed that the rest of our lives will be with each other.”
Wen Mother smiled. “As you wish. But if you don’t marry outside, you must spend more time at home with me!”
“Of course. Mom, if there’s anywhere you want to go, just tell us. Once we graduate, we can take you on a world tour,” Wen Yunqing said, beaming.
Wen Mother snorted lightly. “Let me ask you, when did you two get together?”
“Hmm…” Wen Yunqing hesitated slightly in her answer. “Mom, would you mind that we hid it from you before?”
Wen Mother just smiled mysteriously, spearing a piece of honeydew with her fork and waiting for their answer.
“Mom, we got together after we became adults,” Wen Yimeng didn’t have the nerve to give the specific date, given how long they had secretly concealed it.
“So, you’ve been together since you were eighteen?” Wen Mother raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise in her eyes. She had thought their feelings developed during their time together in university—not so early!
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng remained silent, showing identical appeasing smiles.
What else could Wen Mother do? One was born from her, and the other she had raised since childhood. She could only accept it with a smile, then fiercely hugged them both.
After gaining her mother’s approval, Wen Yunqing paid even less attention to her words and actions. She called Wen Yimeng “Baby” casually, and feeding her food was commonplace. They were clingier than if they were still in the dating phase.
With such obvious behavior, if Wen Father wasn’t blind, he could easily see the relationship between the two.
Wen Father wanted to make a fuss, but seeing that everyone else at the dinner table was acting as if it were normal, he quietly held his peace.
“Wife, look…” Wen Father could only complain secretly to Wen Mother.
“What’s wrong? Isn’t this quite nice?” Wen Mother said calmly. “Once Wen Han gets married, we can start planning a wedding for Yunqing and Yimeng.”
Wen Father’s mouth dropped open. After his wife shoved a meatball into his mouth, he silently closed it.
Forget it. If his wife had no objections, he wouldn’t stir up trouble. Otherwise, he would be the one playing the villain again.
The subsequent developments went very smoothly. Wen Yunqing finally proposed at the graduation ceremony, kneeling on one knee in front of all the teachers and students.
Although Wen Yimeng had guessed it would happen, she was still overjoyed. Once the ring was on her finger, she immediately hugged Wen Yunqing and kissed her passionately.
Amidst the cheers of the Jing University faculty and students, their relationship status was upgraded from girlfriends to fiancées.
As for the wedding, Wen Yunqing originally wanted to hire a top team and figure it out herself.
But when Wen Mother heard this, she immediately had the two fill out a questionnaire and then completely took charge of the wedding, telling them simply to prepare to get married the following year.
The facts proved once again that Wen Mother had excellent taste. During the wedding ceremony, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng were beaming, completely satisfied.
Not many people were invited to the wedding, and entrepreneurs and political figures accounted for the vast majority. This led to the small island’s port being filled with yachts and escort vessels, with helicopters even patrolling the area.
Wen Mother personally served as the officiant, solemnly and earnestly reading the wedding vows.
“I do.” Wen Yimeng answered firmly.
The luckiest thing in her life was meeting Wen Yunqing. Now, she would hold tightly to her happiness.
“I do.” Wen Yunqing gazed at her lover’s face and bowed to place a devout kiss on her hand.
As long as she lived, Wen Yimeng would forever be the princess she held in the palm of her hand. No one could ever hurt her.
Even if the end of the world arrived, it would be so.
