I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 116
Xiao Zhao’s mother quickly understood why the police had acted so fast: she saw the person in uniform approaching—the Head of the Foundation.
“President Wen, the Foundation is currently looking for a warehouse manager. If Ms. Zhang is willing, she can start work immediately.”
“We’ve also been informed about Xiao Zhao’s situation. We will contact the school on Monday. If there are no issues, we will cover her expenses from now until she graduates from university…”
The Head was a woman in her early thirties with a crisp, decisive manner. She reported the situation very clearly.
“I’d like to contribute an additional 1 million RMB to host more legal popularization campaigns (普法行動) in the county, especially in these more remote villages,” Wen Yimeng said.
“Understood, President Meng. I have noted your request and will assign a suitable person to oversee it shortly,” the Head agreed readily.
Just like that, before Xiao Zhao’s mother had time to ask too many questions, she and Xiao Zhao got into the Foundation’s car and left Lipu Village with the professional staff.
“We can leave the follow-up matters to the Foundation,” Wen Yunqing said. “I’ve already spoken to the police. There will definitely be no problem sending that man to prison.”
Zhang Pan and Liang Shiyou were both satisfied with the outcome. They subsequently wrote about this experience in their practical case studies, causing a minor sensation at school when they submitted their report.
Life in their sophomore year was generally good. Wen Yunqing still traveled roughly once a month to help resolve some of the more intractable issues.
Over that year, the Foundation also developed successfully. The government seemed intent on currying favor with Wen Yunqing, granting them many preferential policies. With the government acting as a backer, many well-informed entrepreneurs also announced their partnership, continuously donating substantial sums of money.
As the two stepped into their junior year (third year of university), the situation changed slightly. Some of their assets were exposed. Their affiliated companies on a major business information platform grew in number, and once their valuation reached ten digits, strange people started appearing around them.
Wen Yunqing could begrudgingly tolerate those seeking investment, but when she encountered those trying to orchestrate a meeting or seeking to be her kept lover, she struck back without mercy. Especially those who had done bad deeds—she investigated every single one of them thoroughly.
Wen Yunqing set a record: she once sent one person into police custody every day for seven consecutive days. This led to her face being recognized by the local police officers, who noted that at least one-third of their year-end performance (KPIs) was provided by Wen Yunqing.
During the junior year summer vacation, the two spent two days traveling as usual before returning home. As they pushed open the front door with their luggage, they realized there was an extra person in the house.
“You’re back! Let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend, your future sister-in-law, Pei Xi,” Wen Han announced proudly. After being dragged through over a year of blind dates, he had finally found his true love!
“Hello, I’m Pei Xi,” Pei Xi was two years older than Wen Yunqing. Based on her appearance and demeanor, she seemed like a gentle and caring older sister.
“Hello, Sister-in-Law. I’m Wen Yunqing.” Wen Yunqing had a good first impression of Pei Xi.
“I’m Wen Yimeng. Hello, Sister-in-Law.” Wen Yimeng also smiled and extended her hand. She felt the other woman radiated goodwill. Since she was already present in the house, it seemed she had passed Wen Mother’s test.
Seeing that his girlfriend and his two younger sisters were getting along well, Wen Han felt a slight relief. After being “disciplined” several times by the people at his company, his head was now clear.
He realized how foolish he had been before, living entirely in his own world and even trying to alienate his own sister. Fortunately, his two sisters had a strong bond and hadn’t been estranged because of him.
Pei Xi sat on the sofa chatting with the sisters. When she heard they traveled out of the province for a few days every month, her voice was filled with longing.
“That’s wonderful. I didn’t travel much during university, which was such a waste of time,” Pei Xi lamented. “If I could, I’d go on a world tour, experience the scenery of the Arctic, and feel the wildness of the African savanna.”
“Sister-in-Law, if you want to go, just go! If you don’t travel while you’re young, you’ll have even less opportunity later,” Wen Yimeng encouraged. “Brother must have vacation time, right? Have him go with you!”
“I do have time off, but traveling abroad is a bit difficult,” Wen Han said with some difficulty. He was now handling most of the business and had to process a lot of documents every day.
“That’s easy. Have Sister-in-Law come with us! We plan to travel abroad for a month this summer,” Wen Yimeng said. “Sister-in-Law, are you interested in joining us?”
Pei Xi’s eyes shone brighter. “Yes! Do you have any plans yet?”
“We’ll start by visiting Europe,” Wen Yunqing took over, prompted by a pinch to her waist from her girlfriend. “If you want to go to the Arctic or Africa, you might have to wait until we graduate. We’ll have more time then.”
“That’s fine. If I can really go to the Arctic and Africa with you, waiting a little longer is no trouble,” Pei Xi said with a smile. She felt lucky: her boyfriend was reliable and caring, her future mother-in-law was easy to talk to, and her future sisters-in-law were very kind to her.
“Yunqing and Yimeng, haven’t you met anyone decent at school?” Wen Mother asked casually. Compared to two years ago, Wen Mother was now somewhat mentally prepared.
Both of them were twenty-one; starting to date was acceptable at this age.
Wen Yunqing cleared her throat. “Many people pursue us, but I investigated them, and their character is generally poor.” She then proceeded to give several examples.
Wen Mother was curious at first. Her brow furrowed slightly when she heard about someone deliberately staging a ‘hero saves the beauty’ encounter. Her frown deepened when she heard about someone using public opinion to pressure her daughters.
By the time she heard that a suitor had used mind control or PUA techniques against his ex-girlfriend, the anger on her face was clear. “What kind of people are these? Jing University is a century-old prestigious school! How could they let trash like this in!”
“Mom, most of the students at school are normal, but since the student base is large, it’s normal to have a few bad apples occasionally,” Wen Yunqing reassured her.
Anyone sane at Jing University could tell what their relationship was. Those who couldn’t, at least understood rejection. Only the biggest fools would ‘push through difficulties,’ claiming they wouldn’t stop until they hit a wall, driven by blind self-confidence and the belief that they possessed a unique charm.
Wen Mother grudgingly accepted this explanation, reminding them worriedly, “Although you’re old enough to date, you absolutely must not casually make friends with a playful attitude. The more casual you are, the more you’ll suffer.”
“Mom, Yimeng and I might just stay with you forever. We don’t want to date anyone else,” Wen Yunqing took the opportunity to say. “I’m not interested in children. I want to be Mom’s child forever.”
Hearing this, Wen Mother’s eyes nearly curved into crescents from smiling. “Good! As long as you’re willing, I can support you for life.”
“You said it, Mom. If we never get married and stay here clinging to you, you can’t drive us away,” Wen Yimeng chimed in.
Wen Mother laughed, looking thoughtfully at her two daughters, seemingly realizing something. “What kind of mother drives her children away? You can cling to me for as long as you want!”
So what if they don’t get married? As long as her children were happy, that was all that mattered. As for old age, with so much money, there would be plenty of people willing to care for them.
“You’re not getting married?” Wen Father, who was passing by, caught the last bit and asked with a slight frown. “Did something happen?”
“Nothing happened. It was just a random thought,” Wen Yunqing’s attitude toward Wen Father remained distinct from her attitude toward Wen Mother. “We were just thinking about the future now that Brother has a sister-in-law.”
Wen Father held a plate of fruit. He seemed about to say something, but after hesitating, he didn’t. Instead, he steered the topic aside, sitting down to ask about the development of their businesses.
Wen Han was not present at the moment; he was driving his girlfriend home after dinner.
“Xi Xi, if you wait for me, I can squeeze out the time,” Wen Han said pitifully. Traveling abroad would surely take a month or more, and he didn’t want to be separated from his girlfriend for so long.
“We can still go together later; there’s no rush,” Without outsiders present, Pei Xi dropped some of her pretense, sitting very casually. She wasn’t actually a true lady; she had only been forced to adopt that upbringing.
“Are you really going to travel with Yimeng and the others? They haven’t even graduated yet. You’ll have to look after them, which might be tiring,” Wen Han murmured, subtly badmouthing his sisters.
“I actually think your two sisters are very dependable,” Pei Xi raised an eyebrow, adding, “They seem even more reliable than you.”
“More reliable than me?” Wen Han was displeased. “Can they pick you up from work? Can they eat, watch movies, visit haunted houses, and play games with you?”
“They can take me abroad to the Arctic and Africa,” Pei Xi countered, hitting his weak spot. “You’re busy with the company; you can’t take that much time off.”
“Be good, dear. I’ll send you photos then,” Pei Xi raised her hand and patted Wen Han’s head. “I’ll make sure to think of you every day.”
The relationship between Pei Xi and Wen Han was genuinely good, thanks in part to Wen Yunqing’s initial threats. The earlier intimidation had been effective, preventing Wen Han from turning into a domineering CEO character and instead making him respectful of women and filial.
After confirming that nothing major would happen domestically for the time being, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng fulfilled their promise and took Pei Xi traveling abroad.
Of course, the people traveling were not just the three of them. Due to the importance of Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng, the Special Affairs Department arranged for several people to follow them covertly, ensuring the two stayed safe overseas.
Pei Xi had excellent observation skills. By the third day of the trip, she had more or less figured out the nature of Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng’s relationship. When she noticed the two weren’t hiding their intimacy in front of her, Pei Xi chose a suitable opportunity to ask them directly.
“That’s right. As you know, we are not related by blood,” Wen Yunqing admitted openly. Since Pei Xi was to be the future sister-in-law, she would have to know eventually.
A look of mild distress crossed Pei Xi’s face. “If that’s the case, won’t I be a human light bulb [third wheel] joining your trip? Isn’t that a little inappropriate?”
“Yimeng and I have plenty of time together in the future. A month is not long for us,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile. “Besides, as our future sister-in-law, you don’t count as a light bulb.”
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng had long passed the stage of worrying about third wheels. Furthermore, if they could accept covert official bodyguards following them, having Pei Xi join them openly just meant one more person to show affection to.
Pei Xi initially thought they were just being polite, but as time went on, she realized their interactions and relationship dynamics did not change because she was there.
On the contrary, Pei Xi found the three of them got along very well. They walked together on foreign streets, went shopping at luxury stores, and tried new things.
During their walks, Pei Xi was usually the one taking photos and communicating across borders with Wen Han, while Wen Yimeng and Wen Yunqing held hands, following a few steps behind.
“Would you like me to be your photographer?” In the second week of the trip, Pei Xi became interested in photography, bought a set of professional equipment locally, and tossed her phone aside.
“We’d be very grateful,” Wen Yimeng replied without hesitation. Honestly, she still remembered how bad Wen Yunqing’s photography skills were. It was wonderful to finally have someone who had studied photography to take their pictures!
The summer trip went smoothly. Domestic affairs operated well throughout their forty days of travel. Due to the Spirit Gathering Talismans Wen Yunqing sold as a favor, the cultivation speed of the practitioners was impressive, and serious injuries during missions had become significantly less frequent.
Through Pei Xi’s contact with Wen Han, the relationship between Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng was also exposed to her brother.
“I just have one question,” Wen Han called across the country.
Wen Yunqing: “Ask.”
“Is your relationship pure? Is there no material interest involved? Did you deliberately do anything to Yimeng?” Although he said it was one question, Wen Han couldn’t stop once he started talking.
“I love Yimeng, and Yimeng loves me just the same,” Wen Yunqing said with rare patience. “It was true in the past, it is true now, and it will be true in the future.”
Wen Han was silent on the other end for a long time. “When are you planning to tell Mom and Dad?”
“No later than when we graduate,” Wen Yunqing answered.
Wen Han sighed. “I understand. Take good care of Xi Xi, and be safe. If you plan to tell Mom, give me a heads-up.”
“Okay,” Wen Yunqing agreed, a slight curve appearing on her lips. “Thank you.”
Although Wen Han hadn’t been a good brother in the past, he had made some progress now. In that case, she would have to consider treating him a little better too.
“Whose call was that?” Wen Yimeng asked drowsily from the bed.
“Wen Han’s call,” Wen Yunqing returned to her spot, skillfully wrapping her arms around Wen Yimeng. “Sleep now. I’ll tell you after you wake up.”
“Mmm…” Wen Yimeng hesitated but quickly surrendered to her drowsiness, falling into a secure sleep in Wen Yunqing’s embrace.
