I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 100
Dinner was a simple yet hearty spread of three dishes and one soup. Wen Grandmother’s cooking skills were above average, and the dishes she prepared were very delicious.
Thanks to the efforts of Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng, three of the dishes were finished, but they simply couldn’t eat the remaining large pot of chicken soup.
Because they had eaten too much, Wen Yimeng and Wen Yunqing were forced to go out for a digestive walk.
Fortunately, the snow had stopped by then. Dressed in adequately warm down coats, the single-digit temperature posed no problem for either of them.
“We can see stars here!” Wen Yimeng looked up at the night sky. Probably because they were deep in the mountains, looking up revealed a sky filled with countless stars.
This was something neither An City nor Jing City had. In the night of a bustling city, the street lights were bright, but looking up, you could usually only see moving points of light—airplanes flying overhead.
The village wasn’t large in area, so Wen Yunqing simply led Wen Yimeng to circle around it. Thanks to government poverty alleviation efforts, there were one or two streetlights sparsely placed at major intersections. These lights, combined with the reflection from the surrounding snow, provided a fair amount of illumination.
“If you continue along this road, you’ll reach a small hill. That’s essentially where the ancestral graves are. During the Qingming Festival, people specially allocate two hours for ancestor worship,” Wen Yunqing introduced. The memory that originally belonged to her was becoming increasingly clear.
“The children in the village sometimes go there to play at night before winter sets in,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile. “Maybe because they are all family, they don’t feel scared.”
“Since they are their own ancestors, it’s normal not to be afraid,” Wen Yimeng commented. That line of thought was quite reasonable.
As they wandered, Wen Yunqing arrived near Xiao Mei’s house. Just as she was hesitating whether to go over and say hello, arguing voices—sounding like a man and a woman—came from inside.
Clearly, Xiao Mei’s house had outside visitors, and they were up to no good.
Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng exchanged a look, accelerating in tacit understanding. They started banging heavily on the door, forcibly interrupting the argument inside.
“Who is it?” The man inside opened the door impatiently, looking at them with hostile eyes. “Who are you looking for?”
“Is Xiao Mei’s mother here? I’m looking for her,” Wen Yunqing maintained a small, fake smile, then mercilessly pushed the man aside and walked straight inside.
Upon seeing the marks on Xiao Mei’s mother’s face, the fake smile on Wen Yunqing’s face quickly vanished. “You dare to hit someone in the village?”
“What do you mean ‘hit someone’? I was just educating my younger sister-in-law,” the man sneered. “Who are you? This is our family’s private business; outsiders don’t need to interfere.”
“What a coincidence. I happen to be Xiao Mei’s older sister, so technically, I’m not an outsider,” Wen Yunqing pulled at the corner of her mouth, rudely grabbing the man by his collar with one hand and lifting him up.
The man’s height was similar to Wen Yunqing’s, so when Wen Yunqing raised her hand, his feet were suspended in the air.
“Damn it, let go of me! Put me down quickly!” The man first panicked, then cursed loudly. “Put me down now, or don’t blame me for being impolite!”
“Impolite? You, like this?” Wen Yunqing scoffed, then softened her expression and asked Xiao Mei, “Xiao Mei, do you recognize this person? If you don’t recognize him, then he’s committing burglary and robbery, and we can call the police to arrest him.”
“I don’t recognize him! I don’t know this person! This person asked Mom for money as soon as he came in, and he hit her!” Xiao Mei reacted quickly, gathering her courage to shout loudly.
“You little brat, I’m your uncle!” The man was displeased. How could he be committing robbery? His relatives had already taken over 300,000 yuan; he was just here to ask for 10,000 yuan to spend.
“Sister Yunqing, I don’t know him!” Xiao Mei insisted. “Can you please help me chase him away?”
Wen Yunqing didn’t speak. Instead, she turned to look at Xiao Mei’s mother. Since this man was Xiao Mei’s uncle, he should be her younger brother.
Xiao Mei’s mother briefly met Wen Yunqing’s gaze, then lowered her head, remaining silent, as if tacitly agreeing with Xiao Mei’s words.
It seems she has a clear head after all. Wen Yunqing felt a little relieved. She didn’t need Xiao Mei’s mother to say the same thing as Xiao Mei; she just needed her not to interfere.
“In the case of robbery, the homeowner should have certain rights to self-defense. Beating up the person who came to steal and throwing them out wouldn’t be excessive, would it?” A smile appeared on Wen Yunqing’s face, and her gaze finally landed on the man’s right hand.
Wen Yimeng instantly grasped Wen Yunqing’s intention and found a very flimsy excuse to take Xiao Mei into the bedroom.
She believed that the upcoming scene would be somewhat bloody, and it was better for a minor child not to witness it.
Wen Yunqing didn’t actually do anything complicated. She simply punched the man repeatedly after grasping his chin, dislocating his right shoulder joint in the process, ensuring he left in a state of utter terror.
“Thank you…” Xiao Mei’s mother opened her mouth with some difficulty. Although she had guessed what Wen Yunqing intended to do, she hadn’t anticipated her methods would be so straightforward.
“If he goes to the hospital to get his injuries checked…” Xiao Mei’s mother worried.
“It’s fine. I have certain immunity,” Wen Yunqing waved her hand dismissively. “Thank you for the eggs Xiao Mei brought over. They were delicious.”
“As long as you like them…” Xiao Mei’s mother felt that the Wen Yunqing in front of her was somewhat unfamiliar. Yet, they had only not seen each other for just over a year.
Since they had already come, simply helping to beat up a person felt a bit too boring.
Thus, Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng stayed for a short while at Xiao Mei’s house, trying to ask in the most subtle way possible if there was anything else Xiao Mei’s mother needed help with.
“If possible, I hope that no so-called relatives come to disturb our lives again,” Xiao Mei’s mother didn’t hesitate and stated her request.
“Although the money I earn is little, it’s enough to support the two of us. Coupled with the money Xiao Mei’s father left behind… that’s enough for Xiao Mei to finish university smoothly,” Xiao Mei’s mother said. “As long as those people don’t show up, that’s all I need.”
Xiao Mei’s mother’s request surprised Wen Yunqing. She had expected Xiao Mei’s mother to ask to borrow money, given that the news of her being taken back by her biological rich parents had likely spread throughout the village.
“Are you sure you only need me to do this?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Xiao Mei’s mother nodded. “We just need to live our lives in peace.” She wasn’t greedy; without those people, they would surely live better and better.
Wen Yunqing nodded, then looked at Wen Yimeng beside her, winking, seemingly asking for her opinion.
“If Auntie doesn’t mind, I think I can introduce you to a lawyer,” Wen Yimeng said after thinking for a moment. “A lawyer with rich experience.”
After all, legally speaking, the compensation money for Xiao Mei’s father belonged to his wife and daughter. Even if it were to be shared with relatives, it should only go to his biological parents, not his distant aunts and uncles who showed up unexpectedly.
