I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 54
Tang Fuzhi walked with her head down, pretending not to hear anything. Only when Tao Ran said goodbye to Grandma Zhang did she finally lift her pale, delicate face, clearly wanting nothing to do with Tao Ran.
The girl turned away, her sullen expression almost endearing.
Tao Ran reached out to pat her hair, but Tang Fuzhi dodged away, as if determined to avoid any contact.
Undeterred, Tao Ran returned home and opened the fried chicken box. The aroma of fried food filled the air, instantly saturating the entire apartment with the savory scent.
She put on disposable gloves and casually picked up a large chicken leg coated in sweet and spicy honey sauce, Tang Fuzhi’s favorite part.
“Smells delicious, doesn’t it? I wonder if Miss Tang might be interested?”
Tao Ran deliberately held the chicken leg out to Tang Fuzhi. Tang Fuzhi’s eyes lit up, but remembering Tao Ran’s earlier conversation with Grandma Zhang, she swallowed hard and stubbornly resisted.
“Only children like eating this kind of junk food,” she said.
Tao Ran took a deliberate bite, the crispy skin cracking to reveal the tender, juicy meat beneath. “Hmm, I guess I’m a child then. I love it.”
As she spoke, Tao Ran helped Tang Fuzhi put on the disposable gloves.
Tang Fuzhi looked down at Tao Ran, who was crouching on the floor, her movements practiced and a smile playing on her lips. Her heart softened.
“But you’re going to spoil me.”
The young girl’s voice was soft and sweet. Just moments ago, she had been angry and refusing to speak to Tao Ran, but now she was already back to being affectionate.
Tao Ran looked up, her gaze lingering on Tang Fuzhi’s lips. She reached out and gently traced the delicate edges of the girl’s mouth, as if savoring a memory.
“That’s exactly what I want. If I spoil you, you’ll never be able to leave me.”
Suddenly, Tang Fuzhi’s heart fluttered. Her amber eyes sparkled as she playfully retorted, “I knew you were up to no good.”
So that’s what you’re planning.
Tao Ran chuckled softly, neither denying nor confirming Tang Fuzhi’s words. After all, she was a bad person.
She stood up, instantly towering over the seated Tang Fuzhi by two heads. Her shadow fell over the girl, as if trying to completely envelop her.
“Yes, I’m a bad person.”
Tang Fuzhi was displeased again.
No one was allowed to be bad to Tao Ran except her, not even Tao Ran herself.
She pursed her lips and grabbed Tao Ran’s wrist just as she was about to turn and walk away.
Tao Ran turned to see Tang Fuzhi looking conflicted, but she finally opened her mouth and said, “But I like it.”
The young woman’s voice was soft, now tinged with a sweetness that filled Tao Ran’s heart completely.
Clearly embarrassed, Tang Fuzhi released Tao Ran’s hand after speaking and buried her face in her fried chicken, acting as if nothing had happened.
The smile on Tao Ran’s lips deepened. The girl was so easily flustered. Even after they’d shared far more intimate moments, she still blushed whenever Tao Ran said something sweet.
Tao Ran sat beside Tang Fuzhi, watching her eat, and waited until she finished before saying, “There’s a banquet at the Tao Residence tomorrow night.”
Tang Fuzhi paused mid-bite, instinctively wanting to refuse. She didn’t really want to interact with strangers.
But when she heard “Tao Residence,” she froze and asked blankly, “Is that Grandpa’s place?”
Tao Ran nodded, not wanting to pressure her. “If you don’t want to go, I’ll just tell Grandpa. We’re family, after all.”
Tang Fuzhi’s face flushed crimson at the word “family,” and she stammered, “I… I should go.”
After all, it was Tao Ran’s grandfather, practically her only family.
That scum dad didn’t count. Humph.
Suddenly, a thought struck her, and her cheeks burned even hotter.
Could this… could this count as a different kind of meeting the parents?
The next day, Tang Fuzhi arranged for a makeup artist to come early and help her get ready for the banquet.
After all, this was her first official time meeting Tao Ran’s family.
Their previous encounter with Grandpa Tao had been too sudden, and she hadn’t had time to prepare properly. This time, knowing many of Tao Ran’s uncles and aunts would be there, she wanted to look her best and avoid embarrassing herself.
The makeup artist she hired, Katia, was said to be a renowned professional in China, having worked with numerous celebrities.
Rumor had it that Katia’s hands could transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, instantly identifying facial flaws and weaknesses and then skillfully accentuating strengths while minimizing imperfections.
It sounded impressive, but Tang Fuzhi’s main thought was simply, She’ll definitely make me look better than I could myself.
She closed her eyes and let Katia work her magic.
“Miss Tang’s skin is absolutely flawless,” Katia murmured, gazing down at the girl’s porcelain-like complexion, as smooth and delicate as a peeled egg. For the first time, she felt her skills were almost unnecessary.
Tang Fuzhi blushed slightly at the compliment, unused to such praise from strangers.
The actual makeup application took far less time than she’d imagined. When she opened her eyes again, Tao Ran was already standing behind her, watching the girl in the mirror with her.
Tao Ran had always known Tang Fuzhi was beautiful, but she rarely attended formal events and, being naturally lazy, rarely wore makeup.
The girl in the mirror had fair skin. Perhaps because she was attending a banquet, Katia had deliberately toned down Tang Fuzhi’s youthful features, giving her a more mature and sophisticated air.
Tao Ran reached out to stroke the girl’s hair, chuckling softly, “You actually look a bit like an older sister now.”
Tang Fuzhi suddenly felt confident again. She lifted her chin, and even her usually expressionless face now carried a hint of icy resolve.
“Come pick out a dress,” Katia said, leading Tao Ran and Tang Fuzhi to a rack filled with various formal gowns.
No girl could resist beautiful clothes. Tang Fuzhi’s amber eyes sparkled as she gazed at the stunning dresses.
Just when she had finally managed to exude a hint of mature charm, her smile instantly shattered the illusion, reverting her back to her youthful, girlish demeanor.
Tang Fuzhi chose an emerald green gown, a color she particularly loved.
While she changed, Tao Ran lounged lazily on the sofa nearby, waiting. Katia suddenly chuckled, “I didn’t expect you two to get together so quickly. I thought you’d have to chase her for a while.”
Tao Ran’s relaxed expression tightened slightly as she glanced at Katia, her gaze carrying a subtle warning. “Watch your mouth.”
Katia, long accustomed to Tao Ran’s double standards, paid her no mind. She was simply curious about what tactics Tao Ran had used to “lure” the young girl home so quickly.
However, she refrained from pressing further. As a professional makeup artist, she maintained her professional decorum, silently smoothing a strand of hair over her chest.
When the young woman emerged again, she was wearing the emerald green gown. A black lace choker was connected to the strapless bodice by delicate chains, the fitted waist accentuating her slender figure. The layered skirt split at the thigh, revealing glimpses of her flawless, pale legs beneath the undulating emerald fabric, creating an alluring, peek-a-boo effect. Her long hair had been styled into a princess updo, with a few wisps framing her ears, enhancing her delicate and captivating charm.
Tao Ran’s eyes lit up. She was so used to seeing Tang Fuzhi barefaced and simply dressed that it was rare to see her looking so stunning.
She walked over to Tang Fuzhi, knelt down on one knee like she was proposing, startling Tang Fuzhi into thinking she was about to propose right there.
Fortunately, Tao Ran pulled out not a ring from her pocket, but the jade bracelet Grandpa Tao had given her.
The dark green jade bracelet slipped onto Tang Fuzhi’s wrist, its clear, vibrant color looking anything but old-fashioned against the girl’s slender, pale wrist. It perfectly complemented her dark green gown.
Tao Ran nodded, pleased. “See? It fits perfectly.”
Tang Fuzhi was surprised. “Why did you bring it out?”
Knowing the bracelet’s immense value, Tang Fuzhi had always been afraid of damaging it and had kept it locked away in a cabinet. She never expected Tao Ran to bring it out today.
Tao Ran looked up at Tang Fuzhi, her eyes brimming with laughter. “An object is worthless in itself. Only when worn by someone does it truly deserve to be called priceless.”
The unspoken message was clear: Tang Fuzhi was far more precious than the bracelet.
Tang Fuzhi smiled, her lips curving into a soft smile. No one dislikes being praised, especially when the compliment comes from their girlfriend.
“Smooth talker,” Tang Fuzhi teased, though Tao Ran could see the girl was secretly pleased. That’s just how she is, Tao Ran thought with amusement, always wanting more even when she’s already gotten her way.
Even compliments earned her a playful rebuke.
Tang Fuzhi walked to the mirror and gazed at her reflection, still adjusting to this unfamiliar version of herself. “Do I look… good?”
Tao Ran rose and joined her. In her high heels, Tang Fuzhi stood nearly as tall as Tao Ran. The contrast between Tang Fuzhi’s elegant gown and Tao Ran’s business attire created an odd pairing, yet their auras surprisingly harmonized.
Tao Ran glanced down at Tang Fuzhi. The tight-fitting bodice accentuated her curves, making her appear even more voluptuous. From Tao Ran’s angle, she could catch a glimpse of the faint cleavage.
“You look stunning. It suits you perfectly,” Tao Ran murmured, her voice low and husky, making Tang Fuzhi’s ears tingle.
