I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 32
Meng Yuqing had some minor abrasions, but they weren’t serious. The real issue was her psychological state at least, that’s how her parents and older brother saw it.
Meng Yuqing complained to the system, “What’s the deal? Did you really have to set me up as a villainous female supporting character with psychological issues?”
System 666: “Well, I don’t know who was the one who insisted on jumping off a building. If you’d just done as I said, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”
Meng Yuqing felt a pang of guilt recalling the incident, but she stubbornly retorted, “She’s the one persecuting the female lead! Shouldn’t you be doing something about that? I’m supposed to be the villainous female supporting character here, why is someone else stealing my spotlight?”
System 666: “Well… even if you didn’t do all of it, the blame’s been pinned on you. The female lead is convinced it was you, and so far, the plot hasn’t deviated too much, so…”
Meng Yuqing: “So how long am I supposed to keep taking the fall for this?”
System 666: “You’ve actually been doing a pretty good job with your ‘persecute the female lead’ mission.”
Meng Yuqing: “Oh? Any rewards for that? Like, say, making everyone think I’m fine so I can go back to school?”
System 666: “Sorry, no such rewards available.”
Meng Yuqing wasn’t really interested in rewards, she just wanted to finish her mission and return to her own world.
This world was boring. The only interesting thing in it was Zhong Xiaoxiao. She wondered if Zhong Xiaoxiao was also carrying out a mission, and if she, too, would return to her own world once it was over…
Meng Yuqing: “Can’t you dig up any info on the current female lead? Nothing in the database about her?”
System 666: “The database confirms she is the female lead. Her compatibility with the original female lead’s body is 99.99%.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao’s origins remained a mystery. Aside from herself, no one likely knew the truth.
If Meng Yuqing wanted to learn more, she’d have to get close to her and use her mind-reading ability to peek into her thoughts.
But right now, she was stuck in a hospital bed, which was driving her crazy.
The key was getting discharged first!
The system was perfectly happy to see Meng Yuqing confined to a hospital bed, so it wasn’t exactly eager to help her.
If Meng Yuqing weren’t afraid of being sent to a psychiatric ward, she would’ve escaped long ago. She didn’t dare act out too much, either, for fear of being labeled mentally unstable.
Talk about reaping what you sow… Why did I have to go and jump off a building for no reason?
Meng Yuzhou watched as Meng Yuqing lay silently in bed, lost in thought, and sighed inwardly.
Just then, Ye Qincao arrived, carrying food. “Have something to eat. Brother, you should eat too.”
“No thanks,” Meng Yuzhou replied, feeling too stifled to have any appetite. “Mom, you stay with her. I’m heading home.”
“Alright,” Ye Qincao agreed.
Meng Yuqing, having overheard Meng Yuzhou’s thoughts, knew he was troubled by her condition and didn’t want to stay. Frowning slightly, she watched him leave before turning her attention to Ye Qincao.
Her mother was the most soft-spoken and easily swayed in the family.
“Mom,” Meng Yuqing suddenly sat up, startling Ye Qincao with the abrupt movement.
“Wh-what is it?” Ye Qincaoeyed her warily, bracing for another unpredictable outburst.
“Mom~” Sensing her mother’s fear, Meng Yuqing softened her tone. “I don’t want to stay here anymore. I want to be discharged~”
“Oh, being discharged…” Ye Qincao secretly breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this matter. She took out the meal, “You should eat first.”
A small dining table rose from Meng Yuqing’s hospital bed as Ye Qincao set the food before her, “All your favorites.”
“Oh,” Meng Yuqing responded, having no choice but to start eating first.
As she ate, she contemplated how to persuade Ye Qincao to let her leave the hospital even going home would be better than staying here.
“Mom, I want to go home,” Meng Yuqing said halfway through her meal, looking up at her with a somewhat pitiful expression. Normally prickly like a hedgehog, all sharp edges, she now retracted her thorns, revealing a soft underbelly that was rather endearing.
Ye Qincao thought about what had happened to Meng Yuqing and sighed inwardly. Fortunately, nothing major had occurred this time but what if something had?
“About being discharged, I’ll discuss it with your father,” Ye Qincao said, unable to make the decision herself without consulting their father.
When Meng Xijun came to visit Meng Yuqing, she brought up the matter of leaving the hospital again. Using the same soft, pleading tone, she found that playing pitiful was more effective in gaining sympathy.
Who could bear to refuse such a small request from someone who had just jumped off a building?
Meng Xijun consulted the doctor and learned that Meng Yuqing’s physical condition wasn’t serious, she could be discharged. Hearing the doctor’s approval, Meng Xijun relented, “Alright, you can go home to recover. Home is better than the hospital anyway.”
“However, you’ll need to take a temporary leave from school,” Meng Xijun added, looking at his troublesome daughter. He didn’t want a repeat of this incident, if there was an illness, it needed to be treated. “Your psychological issues require proper treatment.”
Meng Yuqing figured she’d deal with the rest after getting discharged, so she agreed, “Fine then.”
Meng Yuqing was discharged and returned home to recuperate.
Meng Xijun arranged for the psychologist who had previously treated Meng Yuqing to come to their home.
The psychologist, Chen Shiyu, was quite capable at least, that was how the Meng family saw him.
In his early thirties, he wore scholarly glasses, appearing refined and polite, yet his gaze was sharp. Nothing escaped his notice.
Meng Xijun spent a fortune hiring him as Meng Yuqing’s dedicated psychologist, tasked with designing a treatment plan to address her psychological issues.
Convinced she had no problems, Meng Yuqing rolled her eyes upon seeing Dr. Chen again. This doctor was formidable, he could extract information from speech, expressions, and gestures, deciphering the codes of the mind. His piercing eyes seemed to penetrate straight to the soul, leaving no room for concealment.
Meng Yuqing felt slightly uneasy seeing him appear in her garden.
The garden was quiet, filled with blooming flowers of various colors. Though it was autumn, a season of withering, this place seemed untouched, like a dreamlike paradise.
“Hello, Miss Meng,” Dr. Chen approached and greeted her.
Meng Yuqing glanced at him dismissively, saying nothing, and took a sip of tea from her cup.
Unfazed by her indifference, Dr. Chen asked, “May I sit down?”
Meng Yuqing gave no reaction, neither consent nor refusal.
“If you don’t respond in three seconds, I’ll take it as a yes,” Dr. Chen said with a faint smile.
Three seconds later, he sat down across from her at the marble round table, observing the girl before him.
“Your father paid quite a sum to bring me here.”
Dr. Chen had grown accustomed to Meng Yuqing’s silence. He continued speaking to himself, “If I were more selfish, your family would become my cash cow.”
“But I still hope to cure you as soon as possible.”
“You also want to be released quickly and return to a normal life. Don’t you?”
This last remark struck a nerve with Meng Yuqing, she did indeed want to be released soon.
“No, I think this is fine,” said Meng Yuqing, unwilling to admit he had seen through her thoughts.
