I Entered the Villains’ Den While Pretending to Be a Righteous Man - Chapter 5
Words alone weren’t enough to fully disclose Bai Shuijin’s “evil deeds.” The butler pulled out the material evidence his phone and offered the video he had recorded with both hands.
“Sir, I’ve captured everything.”
When the play button was pressed, the butler’s large face appeared abruptly on the screen.
Wang Huanxiu: “…”
Servant: “…”
The butler coughed awkwardly, and the scene soon shifted. Bai Shuijin appeared in the video, which was filmed during the morning. The floor-to-ceiling windows near the sofa were wide open, and the green plants and bright sunshine in the courtyard outside complemented the beautiful interior.
The phone screen acted like a kaleidoscope’s eyepiece, observing the scene within. Sunlight cast several beams onto the waxed floor, and the wind blowing through the open windows lightly tousled Bai Shuijin’s hair.
Today, Bai Shuijin wore a beige short-sleeved shirt and loose, casual plaid trousers, with white socks on his feet. He was huddled on the sofa, his eyes smiling as he watched the television. Despite the open windows, the room remained warm; Bai Shuijin seemed to be living in a different season from the dead of winter.
He’s actually quite photogenic, the butler grumbled inwardly. Next time, I should film from a bad angle.
In the video, Bai Shuijin looked happy and content, like a small, fluffy animal out to sunbathe in the spring warmth. Then, he spoke his first words of the footage.
“Hubby!”
The corner of Wang Huanxiu’s eye twitched slightly.
Bai Shuijin was wriggling on the sofa as if he were about to transform. The more he watched TV, the more excited he got. He shifted from huddling to sitting upright, his eyes wider than before, staring unblinkingly at the male actor on screen.
Then, he stuffed the pillow he was holding under his shirt. The fabric instantly bulged.
“I’m pregnant.”
However, the pregnancy didn’t last ten months; he “gave birth” almost immediately. Not only was the birth fast, but so was the conception. The second male lead hadn’t been on screen for ten seconds before Bai Shuijin was “pregnant” again.
In one morning, between the male lead, the second lead, and the third lead, he gave birth to a total of four children. By noon, he was tired of giving birth and trotted off to eat.
The video ended. The butler took back his phone, not forgetting to add a complaint.
“Sir, he gave birth to three more this afternoon.”
“…”
What is all this nonsense?
Wang Huanxiu raised his hand to loosen his tie, feeling a sudden headache. “In the future, you don’t need to tell me about these things.”
The butler felt that Bai Shuijin’s shameless behavior was practically giving their Master a “green hat” (infidelity) in public. He wanted to say more, but looking at Wang Huanxiu’s cold, decisive silhouette, he finally shut his mouth. Wang Huanxiu was already impatient; speaking further would only invite displeasure.
The house had an elevator, but it was rarely used except for moving large furniture or musical instruments. As Wang Huanxiu headed upstairs, he happened to run into Bai Shuijin coming down from the second floor.
Bai Shuijin’s beige shirt was printed with a cheerful dog’s head, which looked remarkably like the person himself.
A large shadow suddenly fell over him. Looking at Wang Huanxiu in his sharp suit, the man’s wide shoulders and long legs instantly emphasized the size difference between them. Bai Shuijin’s eyes lit up, like a cat seeing Jerry. He trotted down two steps to get closer. “Hubby-Ge, you’re back! We haven’t seen each other all day, I missed you.”
Wang Huanxiu looked at the person before him. Spent the whole day giving birth to other men’s children, and yet he misses me at night?
Meeting Wang Huanxiu’s cold, inscrutable gaze, Bai Shuijin was reminded of a dark, deserted, and complex forest—eerily cold and silent. But he figured it was just because they weren’t close yet; his own “cool and aloof” persona on his first day of university was just like this. He understood.
To further bridge the distance between them, Bai Shuijin issued an invitation: “Hubby-Ge, come watch TV with me.”
In the past, he was either working or at school rushing assignments, with very few moments to relax. He hadn’t seen most of these programs, and today’s viewing had left him wanting more; it was quite interesting. He was currently planning to go downstairs for a bowl of ice cream and continue.
Watching entertainment programs to relax and wash away the fatigue of a workday and discovering topics to chat about through shared content would naturally improve their relationship.
Hand in hand, heart to heart, binding the two of them tightly together!
Wang Huanxiu didn’t agree. “I don’t have time. I have documents to review.”
A look of disappointment instantly appeared on Bai Shuijin’s face. Wang Huanxiu stared at the emotional shift without blinking, then looked away.
So busy. Coming home after a day of work just to look at documents. It turns out CEOs live such a tiring life. Those novels about CEOs going out to splurge money every day were clearly lies.
“Alright then, let’s watch tomorrow instead.” Bai Shuijin didn’t wait for a reply; he wanted his ice cream. “It’s a deal then we’ll watch TV together tomorrow.”
Usually, you need an appointment to talk to a big boss. He’d make an “appointment” to enjoy the TV together tomorrow night.
As Bai Shuijin’s figure disappeared down the stairs, Wang Huanxiu ignored him and went straight to the third floor.
The next morning, Wang Huanxiu stood in the foyer as usual, preparing to leave for work. He lived a mechanical life: waking up at the same time every day, dressing, going downstairs for breakfast, and then heading to the foyer to change his shoes. Every step was precisely timed to match the day before. It had been this way since he started living alone. Three hundred and sixty-five days were as one.
Back when he was a youth, it was another set of mechanical, flavorless routines. To inherit the family business and control the company, he had to learn far more than his peers from the moment he was born—so much that he had no free time to be himself. As one course ended, the next began without pause. His sense of time was deep; there was a clock within his mind, and he knew exactly where every minute went.
However, today, the person bringing him his lunch box wasn’t Mother Li from the kitchen. Instead, it was
Bai Shuijin’s eyes sparkled as he held the food container out to Wang Huanxiu. “Hubby-Ge, for you.”
Wang Huanxiu looked at the lunch box. “Is it poisoned?”
Bai Shuijin closed his eyes in a dejected manner. “Hubby-Ge, your heart is truly filthy.”
“…”
He had woken up early specifically to go to the kitchen and make this for Wang Huanxiu; it was his first time cooking. In his past life, all his jobs included meals to save money. Working like a dog every day meant the only thing he could move was his mouth; he had no energy to cook for himself. At school, he ate at the cafeteria, which was far more economical than restaurants.
Though it was his first time in the kitchen, he felt he had done well. He had even used ketchup to write a message inside.
He stuffed the box into Wang Huanxiu’s hand. “Take it and eat. I made it myself; it’s clean and hygienic.”
“…”
Wang Huanxiu took lunch to the office every day; how could Bai Shuijin miss such a great opportunity to build rapport? For every bit of affection gained, he’d be sliced one less time in the end, and the sharks in the sea would have one less bite of him.
At noon, in the penthouse office of a skyscraper, documents and data were spread across the floor. The white pages were dense with business terminology and symbols.
Jiang You stretched and stood up from the pile of papers, the sheets on his legs fluttering down. He checked the time it was 11:55 AM, nearly noon. Lunchtime. He turned to look at Wang Huanxiu, who was buried in files at the desk.
“Let’s stop here for the morning.” He picked up his suit jacket from the leather sofa, intending to go out for a meal; mental labor was the most exhausting. “Are you coming to the employee cafeteria with me today?”
Ever since that “unprincipled person” snuck in and watered the Money Tree to death, Wang Huanxiu had been bringing lunch from home. But yesterday, unexpectedly, he hadn’t brought any, so the two of them had settled for the cafeteria.
“No, you go ahead.” Wang Huanxiu stood up and took an insulated bag from the display case near the office door.
It was bright pink and covered in stickers, making Jiang You frown. “Your house changed your lunch box? Why is it such a ‘sissy’ color?” It looked like something for a little girl.
Wang Huanxiu ignored him. His long fingers opened the bag. Seeing the container inside, his movements froze. He looked up at Jiang You, who was still standing in the office staring curiously at the bag.
Wang Huanxiu tried to dismiss him. “Aren’t you leaving?”
Jiang You noticed the subtle expression on his face. Curious about what was inside, he stepped forward to look. He saw a pink, heart-shaped lunch box with a sticky note on it.
“You have to eat it all up~”
Jiang You burst into laughter, tears even coming to his eyes as he held the note. “Don’t tell me Bai Shuijin made this for you.”
Wang Huanxiu’s expression didn’t change. Before leaving this morning, Bai Shuijin called it a “Love Bento.” Looking at it now… the physical product matched the description.
Jiang You held the note. “I have to say, being married is different. The kid is quite thoughtful. But it’s just a set of petty tricks.” Once he had laughed his fill, he turned serious. “He’s using tactics on you. ‘The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.’ He’s trying to confuse you; you mustn’t fall for it.”
Wang Huanxiu’s gaze was meaningful. “How do you know?”
Jiang You coughed awkwardly. “…Ahem. I’ve read quite a few ‘tender and lingering’ romance stories.” They were his little niece’s books; he used them to pass the time when he was bored. A few were actually quite good.
Bai Shuijin was truly putting in the effort for Pei Zhiheng’s sake marrying Wang Huanxiu and now making bentos.
“Open it and see what it looks like!” Jiang You was expectant. “I bet that little waste Bai Shuijin put in a lot of effort. I guarantee you’ll fall in love after one bite.” After all, to confuse someone, he’d surely bring out his best skills.
The heart-shaped box was opened. An indescribable scent of charred “fragrance” wafted out. The two men at the desk froze for several seconds.
Why does it smell burnt?
The lid was removed to reveal an indescribable mass of something. Ketchup had been used to write words on top:
“mi si you.”
A brief silence filled the office.
What on earth is that?
Jiang You: “Did he just grab a handful of dog food and throw it in?”
“…”
The “Love Bento” before them had completely forfeited its “color, scent, and taste.” Wang Huanxiu frowned at the charred-brown unidentified object inside.
Jiang You didn’t forget the novel plot he had mentioned earlier.
“Fall in love after one bite.” Jiang You couldn’t control his expression. “Wang Huanxiu, you’re a real pervert.”
“…”
