- Chapter 31 - Judgment Party ⑤
“That’s enough!”
Father shouted as if he’d reached his breaking point, then turned to face the guests.
“What’s so enjoyable about ganging up on the weak?! What is your purpose here?!”
“You are not weak, and you’re the one who was bullying the weak.”
“That’s right. What do you think your daughter is?!”
Being scolded by kings from other countries, Father’s face turned bright red.
“Fine, I’ll leave then, I’ll leave! I thought we could make amends, but this was a wasted trip!”
“Father, let’s talk properly once we return to the kingdom. Consider this a rehearsal. For today, I’ll be acting as your representative.”
As my brother smiled, Father trembled with rage.
“Rix…! So, you were in on this too?!”
“I take issue with that phrasing. I simply cannot agree with your methods. It’s pitiful for the people to have you as their king.”
“Damn it! This is why I never needed a son! You came into this world without my permission, and now you dare oppose me?!”
What does that mean?
It doesn’t make sense to say you don’t need an heir.
“…Did you plan to make Sister the queen instead?”
My brother asked with a derisive laugh.
His clearly mocking smile suggested the idea of her becoming queen was impossible, making Father grind his teeth while glaring at him.
The Kingdom of Yusers does allow princesses to ascend the throne, but if a son is born, regardless of birth order, male children take precedence.
The pressure to absolutely produce a son is minimal.
I think that’s a good thing about our system.
After a brief silence, Father relaxed his expression and shrugged.
“I thought Ramula would become a queen beloved by all, but it seems I was mistaken.”
“Then it’s good that I was born, isn’t it?”
“No. I would have preferred a more obedient son than you.”
Father sighed and flashed a malicious smile.
“I am the king of the Kingdom of Yusers. I’m permitted to do anything within my own country. You might want to make an issue of Dahlia to drag me from the throne, but it’s pointless.”
He seemed to be saying this was none of foreigners’ business.
It’s useless to expect any remorse from this man. To corner him psychologically, it seems we’ll have to borrow her power.
People might call it underhanded, but she offered to help, so I decided to accept her assistance.
“I’ll go call our guest.”
“Don’t worry. I already called her.”
“When?”
“Earlier, when I had Princess Ramula escorted from the room, I asked the soldiers to do it.”
“Thank you!”
If she was called then, she must have been listening to our conversation from behind the door for some time.
“A guest? There’s no need to call any guest!”
“I thought it would make you happy.”
“There’s no way it would make me happy! I’m leaving! Dahlia, by opposing me, you’ve made an enemy of the Kingdom of Yusers. Don’t come crying to me with regrets!”
Father tried to deliberately bump into me, but Lady Edith grabbed my shoulder and pulled me aside.
Perhaps frustrated that things didn’t go his way, Father clicked his tongue and opened the door. The moment he did, his eyes and mouth flew open and he froze.
Standing in the hallway was a woman dressed in a chocolate-colored dress.
Lady Silcott, Father’s beloved, smiled gently as she spoke to him.
“It’s been quite some time, hasn’t it?”
“Wh-why is Silcott here…?”
“Before I explain why I’m here, there’s something I’d like to say to Your Majesty. May I have your permission to speak?”
“Y-you want to talk to me?! About what?!”
Whether it was because they hadn’t seen each other in so long, Father’s eyes shone as he looked at Lady Silcott.
I had asked Lady Silcott to listen to Father’s words and honestly share what she thought of him.
Lady Silcott, her dark brown hair done in a chignon, erased her smile as she responded.
“I was listening from behind the door, and far too many of your statements are things no parent… no, no person should ever say.”
“I have to be ruthless for my people’s sake!”
“Are you saying you were cold to me for our people’s sake?”
When I interjected, Father bit his lip and glared at me.
I’m tired of the excuses. Let’s end this.
