I Confessed to the Wrong Enigma, Then Got Pregnant as a Top Alpha [Transmigration] - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
After listening to his subordinate’s report, Qi Su’s expression was somewhat grim. “So what is the situation now? Is there really a problem with Tang Yujie’s glands?”
“Yes. Her manager came by and said several major hospitals gave the same diagnosis: glandular atrophy, which has led to an inability to secrete pheromones. Many media outlets are currently keeping a close eye on this news. Once it’s exposed, Tang Yujie’s sweet Omega persona will collapse, which will also affect our IPO.”
Tang Yujie, as the top star of the entertainment company under the Qi Group, was one of the most popular trending starlets at the moment. She was affectionately called the “Rose Fairy” by the citizens of the Empire because her pheromones had a pleasant rose fragrance.
However, a few months ago, she was suddenly diagnosed with glandular atrophy. Curing it would require surgery and long-term treatment. Since the news broke internally, Tang Yujie’s own condition had declined significantly.
Qi Su had plans to take Shangxin Entertainment public this year. If such news leaked, it would undoubtedly damage the company’s reputation. For a time, Qi Su felt quite frustrated and could only have the best pheromone experts treat her in secret. But they couldn’t keep dragging it out forever.
…
Chen Rongsheng led Liu Jian out of the elevator and saw the assistant waiting at the door.
“Is President Qi unavailable right now?”
“Yes, please wait a moment.”
Chen Rongsheng nodded and led Liu Jian to the side. They didn’t have to wait long; after the head of Shangxin Entertainment left, Chen Rongsheng brought Liu Jian inside.
Upon seeing them, Qi Su asked, “What is it?”
Chen Rongsheng smiled and placed a report and a perfume sample in front of Qi Su. “President Qi, this is a new perfume sample and report developed by Xiao Liu. Please have a look.”
“A new formula?” Qi Su was somewhat surprised. He looked up at Liu Jian, noting that the young man was quite youthful.
“The formula isn’t particularly innovative, but the scent is very unique. I believe it can be launched as a new product for the next season.”
Qi Su didn’t offer his opinion immediately. Instead, he picked up the sample, sprayed it into the air, and lightly wafted the scent toward his nose.
An elegant rose fragrance was blended with the refined air of sandalwood, turning the originally luxurious and heavy rose scent into something holy and high-class.
However, Qi Su was not unfamiliar with this scent. The aromatherapy bottle Qi Ran had given Gu Bai that day seemed to have this exact smell.
He looked up at Liu Jian again. “This scent—how did you come up with it?”
It was Liu Jian’s first time being received by Qi Su. He was both nervous and excited. “I… I just happened upon it through experimentation.” After speaking, he nervously bit his lip.
Chen Rongsheng smiled. “Xiao Liu has always been very diligent.”
Qi Su tapped his finger on the desk. “Is Qi Ran here?”
Surprised that Qi Su would suddenly ask about Qi Ran, Chen Rongsheng didn’t see the connection between the two matters but answered anyway: “He just arrived before I came up.”
Qi Su nodded and picked up the internal line on his desk. “Have Qi Ran come up for a moment.”
…
Ten minutes later, Qi Ran knocked on the door of Qi Su’s office.
He had thought his brother wanted to ask about his health, but seeing Chen Rongsheng and Liu Jian standing in the room, he couldn’t help but freeze. “President Qi, you were looking for me?”
“Come in. Smell this.” Qi Su pushed the sample toward him. Everyone was a bit confused by this move.
Qi Ran walked over suspiciously and picked it up. “Is this a sample for a new product?”
As he asked, he felt a bit excited. He thought his brother was taking his work quite seriously, calling him up specifically to appraise a new product just so he could learn more.
“Smell it first.” Qi Su didn’t answer but urged him instead.
Qi Ran sprayed it into the air.
The moment the fragrance diffused, the smile on Qi Ran’s face vanished. He looked toward Chen Rongsheng and Liu Jian. “Which of you two formulated this?”
“It was me. What’s wrong?” Liu Jian looked at Qi Ran with an air of arrogance.
Qi Ran placed the sample back on the desk and nodded slightly. He then looked at Qi Su, finally understanding why his brother had called him over.
Qi Su took in Qi Ran’s expression. Without Qi Ran having to say a word, the two brothers already understood the situation.
“Liu Jian, I’ll give you one more chance. Tell me how this scent was formulated. Was there any reference or inspiration?”
As a veteran employee who had worked at the Qi Group for over a decade and the chief perfumer, Chen Rongsheng was very prestigious in the industry. His work experience was vast. Even if he hadn’t understood Qi Su’s intention at first, seeing Qi Ran’s reaction and Qi Su’s current expression made his heart sink. This time, he didn’t speak up for Liu Jian again.
Hearing the question once more, Liu Jian felt apprehensive, but he was certain that no one else knew about what happened that day. He had also confirmed that it wasn’t made by any of their colleagues. That was why he dared to do this.
“It really is just a scent I happened to formulate. What’s wrong?”
Seeing his innocent act, Qi Su didn’t intend to waste any more time. “Before this sample, I received an aromatherapy bottle with the exact same scent. You say you formulated this by chance, but that aromatherapy bottle was handed to me by Qi Ran. If I’m not mistaken, Qi Ran used the company’s public perfumery lab to make it. You two should be considered colleagues?”
As those words fell, Liu Jian looked at Qi Ran in disbelief. “How is that possible? He’s a total newcomer. How could he understand perfumery? This is absolutely impossible.”
Chen Rongsheng also didn’t expect this. He subconsciously looked at the good-looking youth standing by the desk. “Qi Ran, did you really use the lab before?”
“That day, I wanted to send a gift, so I took advantage of the noon break when everyone was resting and no one was using the public lab to mix something. However, because time was limited, I only had time to make one aromatherapy bottle. But before I left, I turned on the ventilation system. Perhaps the scent hadn’t fully dissipated when Brother Liu went in?”
“Impossible! How do you know about perfumery?”
Qi Ran looked at his expression of disbelief mixed with hurt and resentment. “Even if I haven’t eaten pork, haven’t I seen a pig run? I just played around with it—who knew the scent would turn out so good?”
Talk about infuriating!
Hearing Qi Ran’s words, Liu Jian’s face flushed deep red. One had to know that for the sake of this scent, he hadn’t slept for several nights, just to recreate the fragrance that had haunted his dreams after smelling it once.
And now, what was Qi Ran saying? That he had just mixed it randomly?
“Manager Chen, go ask the people who work with Liu Jian to see if anyone else smelled it.”
Just as Qi Su finished speaking, Liu Jian’s face turned pale. “No need. I admit this scent wasn’t something I discovered by chance. But I also put in a lot of effort—you can’t deny that, right?”
Seeing the newcomer he had trained still making excuses at a time like this, Chen Rongsheng said with a grim face, “A mistake is a mistake. There’s no room for so many excuses. You plagiarized someone else’s creativity and results—shouldn’t you be apologizing and feeling ashamed? You only think your own hard work is effort, so Qi Ran’s creativity and results deserve to be stolen by you? A person shouldn’t be so shameless!”
