- Chapter 1 - This Man, I'm Definitely Marrying Him!
“Like it or not, you are marrying him!”
“Do you really think the Mo family is somewhere you can just marry into or reject as you please? Let me tell you, this wedding is happening!”
“…”
The sound of chaotic footsteps surrounded the area as a harsh, shrill female voice pierced straight through Lu Qiao’s eardrums and reached his brain.
Lu Qiao opened his eyes in a daze. The last second of his previous consciousness was the moment he detached himself from that world.
Marry or not? Was he dropped right into the middle of some melodramatic tragedy where a pitiful woman stubbornly resists an arranged feudal marriage?
Lu Qiao slowly opened his eyes. The very next instant, a massive wave of memories and plot explanations he had never seen before rushed rapidly into his brain.
As it turned out, he had transmigrated into a novel world. The story primarily revolved around the legendary and thrilling life of a certain business tycoon, detailing how he rose from a nobody into a business legend, how he defeated the absolute bug-like villain boss of the novel, and how he found love after achieving career success.
As for his own role? He was nothing more than a cannon fodder character right at the very beginning of the novel who refused a political marriage with that disabled villain tycoon, causing his entire family to be crushed out of the game by the tycoon from page one and resulting in a direct game over.
Lu Qiao thought to himself, wait, let me process this. So you are telling me that the person now being forced into a feudal arranged marriage is me?
Well, what do you know? The clown was actually me all along.
Seeing him open his eyes, the woman who had been throwing herself over him instantly lit up with excitement. She cried even louder and more dramatically:
“How can you be so utterly ungrateful, child? The family is going through a difficult time right now! If Mo Hanzhou hadn’t specifically named you, I would have made your brother take your place in this wedding instead!”
Standing off to the side, a man whose face looked like a smashed gourd nodded repeatedly.
Suppressing the physical discomfort brought on by transitioning into a new body, Lu Qiao frowned and said, “Get off.”
The woman froze.
“Move away. Stop lying on top of me.”
Lu Qiao had no patience or gentleness to spare for a woman like her. He directly shoved her aside and stood up from the sofa.
This body certainly couldn’t compare to his old one. If he had to describe it, it felt like a six-foot-five, heavily built grown man suddenly regressing back to infancy. Fortunately, the body’s physical frame was roughly similar to his own past stature, sparing him from struggling with his depth perception.
He straightened the wrinkles on his outerwear and spoke with a calm, composed demeanor:
“The Mo Hanzhou you mentioned just now, is he the Mo Hanzhou from the Mo family, the one whose family business spans across finance, manufacturing, transportation, communications, electronics, and chemicals, and who is known as the richest man in Pingcheng?”
Lu Qiao’s stepmother rolled her eyes and snapped, “Who else could it be if not him? Stop asking questions when you already know the answer.”
Lu Qiao took a deep breath.
“That’s fantastic!”
He clapped his hands together. “I’ll marry him. Of course I’ll marry him. Why wouldn’t I?”
Marrying a wealthy tycoon to become a kept trophy spouse, never having to do a single thing for himself again, and only needing to open his mouth to have meals fed straight to him, this had been his lifelong dream!
This wasn’t just living off someone else, or rather, this was living off a golden meal ticket!
Lu Qiao was moved to tears, momentarily feeling a twinge of nostalgia for his past days of hardship. Oh, my old friends, I’ll never see you again.
Bye.
While deeply moved on the inside, Lu Qiao didn’t show a single trace of it on the outside. He simply let an uncontrollable look of delight cross his face and said with a firm tone:
“I’ll marry him. I’m willing to marry Mo Hanzhou!”
Yu Muqing had originally been dying to pack Lu Qiao up and ship him directly to the Mo family like a parcel, but seeing him now looking so desperate to marry rubbed her the wrong way. She said sourly:
“You say you want to marry, but it’s not that simple. Your rejection of the marriage caused such a huge scene. Who knows how displeased Mo Hanzhou is about it? Now that you actually want to marry him, you have to see if he even wants you.”
Lu Qiao gave her an indifferent sideways glance. “In that case, why did you force me to marry him in the first place?”
“You?”
“Alright.” Lu’s father, who had been sitting quietly off to the side the entire time, finally spoke up. As the head of the household, his words carried a heavy sense of authority:
“I will call Mo Hanzhou to explain things on my end. Since you are willing to marry him, Lu Qiao, don’t go hatching any more weird schemes. If you say you won’t marry again later on, you can forget about staying in the Lu family, let alone the Mo family.”
Wow, what a classic dad!
Having never experienced paternal love before, Lu Qiao nodded with a relaxed and pleasant expression. “Don’t worry, I’m definitely marrying him.”
Only then did Lu Father head upstairs, looking satisfied.
After he left, Yu Muqing rolled her eyes and followed right behind him, leaving behind only Lu Qiao and his cheap stepbrother. That stepbrother completely failed to inherit his mother’s looks, and heaven knows what went wrong with his father’s genes to make him turn out looking like that.
“What are you looking at?” Yu Jiadong glared viciously at Lu Qiao, snapping fiercely:
“Being able to marry Mo Hanzhou is your ultimate blessing. Once you’re in the Mo family, you’d better speak well of the Lu family.”
Ignoring him entirely, Lu Qiao waved a hand and headed upstairs as well. His brain held the complete life story of Lu Qiao from childhood to the present, making him intimately familiar with every corner of the Lu family mansion. Before long, he successfully found Lu Qiao’s room.
This Lu Qiao must have been a shy and introverted person, judging by the fact that his room contained nothing beyond basic necessities and zero personal belongings. But that didn’t matter to Lu Qiao anyway, since the things he liked were rarely owned by ordinary people.
The mere thought that he was about to become a carefree wealthy spouse filled his heart with joy. Harboring this immense happiness, he embraced his very first night of sleep since his rebirth.
In a corner of Pingcheng’s most bustling downtown district, a luxurious manor-style mansion was surrounded by lush greenery, which purified the air while effectively blocking out the noisy clamor of outside traffic.
At that moment, around 10:00 PM, a man in his thirties walked briskly into a spacious room. One entire wall of the room was lined with several bookcases completely filled with books. On the opposite end, behind a pure-wood desk made of red sandalwood, a man sat with his head lowered, reviewing a financial report in his hands.
He possessed extremely striking features, featuring sharp brows, bright eyes, and deep facial contours, making him a rare and handsome man. Yet, very few people who saw him would ever focus on his good looks, because the innate aura he exuded completely overshadowed his physical appearance, naturally inspiring awe and wariness in anyone who laid eyes on him.
With his head lowered, he paused upon noticing something, his brows twitching slightly as a deep, thoughtful expression crossed his face. The man who had just entered walked quickly to the side of the desk, bowed his head, and reported:
“President Mo, Lu Guoan called over. He said he wants to discuss the political marriage with you again.”
“Oh.” Mo Hanzhou put down the report and said indifferently:
“Did his son agree?”
“Yes. He would like to arrange lunch with you and Young Master Lu tomorrow, and have Young Master Lu apologize to you in person. He also claimed that everything that happened before was just a misunderstanding.”
“First an apology, then a misunderstanding. Do you think he even believes his own words?”
Mo Hanzhou wore a sarcastic expression, though he didn’t make things difficult for his subordinate. He instructed:
“Since he’s willing to marry, find a time tomorrow to arrange a lunch. Let’s not have people thinking I’m petty.”
“Understood.”
After the man exited the room, Mo Hanzhou sat alone for a moment longer before reaching out to the armrests of his wheelchair, gripping them, and slowly wheeling himself out. Outside the window, the night was pitch black, a waxing crescent moon hung high in the sky, and a silver layer of frost coated the ground beneath the ginkgo tree facing the window.
For many people, this was merely the beginning of the night, but for him, it was already the deep hours of midnight.
Mo Hanzhou’s fingers gently rubbed the polished edges of his wheelchair’s armrests.
“Lu Guoan. Lu Qiao.”
“Let’s see what kind of games you two are trying to play tomorrow.”
