I, A Loyal Dog, Awaken to My Fate as Cannon Fodder - Chapter 21
A-University had been in session for a week. Shen Yinan and Cheng Wanqiu had returned to campus, and along with them, Luo Yejun had transferred to A-University.
“Go ask around and see if anyone has been pursuing Cheng Wanqiu at school.”
Luo Yejun was holding a small knife against the neck of a boy in his dormitory, his foot resting on the boy’s shoulder.
His roommate trembled as he answered, “Last semester, there was a senior named Hu who pursued Cheng Wanqiu.”
Luo Yejun’s eyes grew a few degrees colder. He asked in a chilling voice, “And? Where is that guy named Hu now?”
The glinting tip of the blade rested directly against the boy’s throat. With just a little more force, the fragile skin would tear, spilling crimson blood.
The man didn’t even dare to swallow. Like beans spilling from a bag, he blurted out the facts that everyone had known last semester.
“Senior Hu was in a car accident. He’s still lying in the hospital, and it seems very serious. He probably won’t be coming back to A-University.”
Tears streamed down the man’s face as he begged for mercy, “Young Master, please let me go.”
Luo Yejun was adorned with accessories worth hundreds of thousands, which shimmered brilliantly under the dormitory lights. Looking at him made one salivate with envy.
Suddenly, the man thought of a way to flatter the Great Young Master Luo.
He clung to Luo Yejun’s leg, tears and snot flowing freely like a pathetic dog.
“Young Master, a person of your noble status can join the Student Union. They have access to all the information regarding the teachers and students of the entire school. There, you won’t have to worry about finding out news about Cheng Wanqiu—who is pursuing her, who is bullying her—you’ll know everything perfectly.”
The man took a deep breath and continued, “You can even use the Student Union’s name to make her seek you out voluntarily. After interacting back and forth a few times, you’ll become familiar with each other, and she’ll end up being yours anyway.”
Interacting back and forth until she became his… Luo Yejun fantasized about it in his mind, and a look of joy appeared on his face.
Luo Yejun retracted the knife and took his foot off the man’s shoulder.
The sharp blade flashed with a bright, cold light as he ran a finger along its edge.
“What’s your name? You’ll follow me from now on.”
The small man, only 1.6 meters tall, was delighted by the recognition. He immediately knelt and kowtowed, reporting his name as respectfully as if he were meeting an emperor.
“This lowly one is Wang Wang!”
“Wang Wang?” Luo Yejun glanced nonchalantly at the man kneeling on the floor. “You really are like a dog.”
Wang Wang smiled playfully and climbed up the metaphorical ladder. “I am a dog. If Young Master Luo tells me to go east, I will never go west.”
“Then how do I get into the A-University Student Union?”
“With your status, Young Master, you can enter the A-University Student Union directly.”
The A-University Student Union was the easiest place to enter: those with wealthy and powerful families got in, and those with top-tier abilities got in. The children of the most famous wealthy families in the country were all inside. It was also the most socially complex and “mixed” place in the entire school.
“Let’s conclude the meeting here. Shen Yinan, I’ll leave the rest of these matters to you.”
At a long conference table, the President, sitting in the main seat, spoke lazily.
Shen Yinan gave an “un” in response, calmly packing up the documents on the table.
“Meeting adjourned,” the President said languidly.
Shen Yinan looked up at the eighty-square-meter conference room. The main theme was red, with green plants placed on either side of the double doors. The room was large, but very few people attended each time, making it feel particularly empty.
Being in such a treacherous place, if one remained obedient, they would be eaten until not even the bone marrow remained.
“Little Yinan~”
A cringing female voice soon came from behind Shen Yinan, and a manicured fingernail brushed against her chin.
Shen Yinan did not panic. She simply stopped her movement of organizing the files. She didn’t need to look up to know it was a sophomore senior looking for her.
A strand of curled hair, dyed brown, fell onto her shoulder.
Hearing the sweet female voice in her ear, “Little Yinan, won’t you come out for a drink with me? Please?”
The people who hadn’t left the conference room yet saw this scene. They only glanced over briefly and then looked away with indifference.
To Shen Yinan, this senior was a rope to climb toward the higher levels. She knew, quite maliciously, that the senior liked her, and she intentionally kept her on the hook.
“Alright, but I need to go back to the dormitory to change first. Surely you wouldn’t want to see me go out in this outfit, Senior?”
The sophomore senior was instantly happy and replied quickly, “Yes, yes, yes! I’ll wait for you at the school gate.”
The senior left gleefully. In wealthy circles, there was a kind of competition regarding whose partner was better-looking. But that senior’s motivation wasn’t purely about competition; she also shared the same sentiment as Cheng Wanqiu.
Her kind of love was based on the face and emotional satisfaction Shen Yinan could provide her.
Cheng Wanqiu was different. She liked Shen Yinan and enjoyed teasing her; seeing Shen Yinan blush and become shy made her satisfied. It was a pure, girlish heart—unbelievably naive and simple.
In contrast to Shen Yinan’s calculating nature, she felt incredibly “dirty.” Existing at the lowest level, she had rolled around and become covered in mud. She knew how filthy she was and felt she didn’t deserve Cheng Wanqiu.
Shen Yinan finished packing the documents, softly closed the conference room door, and turned around to see Luo Yejun standing in line in the Student Union hallway. He was lining up with a group of people wanting to join, holding a resume in his hand.
Luo Yejun probably hadn’t expected to run into Shen Yinan at the Student Union.
Luo Yejun stepped out of line, eyes wide, pointing at Shen Yinan.
“Shen Yinan, why are you appearing in a place like this? Why would a dog like you be in a place like this?!”
What is a dead rat doing shouting around here?
Shen Yinan looked at Luo Yejun with a contemptuous gaze, a fake smile playing on her lips.
“Holy crap, does this guy know who he’s shouting at?”
The people waiting in line to join the Student Union were shocked and whispered among themselves.
“Exactly! That’s the Vice President!”
Luo Yejun inadvertently overheard the others discussing Shen Yinan. Hearing them talk like that, she seemed to be someone very powerful.
“Student, the Student Union is not a place for you to make a scene.”
Shen Yinan displayed a professional, business-like fake smile, but her eyes held an unfathomable, chilling depth.
Many members leaving the meeting glanced coldly at Luo Yejun in the hallway, their expressions full of disgust. It was a look reserved for trash; being stared at made one feel like a piece of repulsive garbage. But on what grounds?
Luo Yejun was familiar with this look; he had lived under such gazes while abroad. Living in an atmosphere where people looked down on him made him feel suffocated even now.
Shen Yinan spoke in official tones, “Student, do your best. The Student Union welcomes you.”
She left no room for criticism, yet everyone now knew that she and this student were not on good terms and had a history. There would always be people who took it upon themselves to take revenge on behalf of the Vice President; there were many such people.
In the “big vat” of the Student Union, which was like a dark forest, a pack of hungry wolves with glowing green eyes fixed their attention directly on Luo Yejun.
This was clearly a phrase of encouragement, but to Luo Yejun’s ears, it sounded like the shrill voice of a demon.
Looking around once more, the way people looked at him had changed. The atmosphere was extremely heavy, and being inside it felt like being branded as a sewer rat.
Shen Yinan said indifferently, “I’m leaving now. Good luck.”
As they brushed past each other, she left behind a very faint, cool scent of cedar.
Luo Yejun didn’t find the scent pleasant; it was a scent that felt like a rope tightening around his neck—sharp and cold.
It was Wang Wang behind him who reminded him, “Young Master, it’s almost your turn. Good luck, Young Master.”
Luo Yejun snapped back to reality. The sharp, cold fragrance beside him was gone, replaced by the scent of daisy perfume sprayed in the hallway.
He took a deep breath and then glanced at Wang Wang. Finding no trace of having seen through his weakness in the other’s eyes, he felt relieved.
He was determined to enter this Student Union. So what if Shen Yinan held a high position? Could she really use her rank to suppress him?
What he didn’t expect was that Shen Yinan wouldn’t use her rank to suppress him. She didn’t deign to do something that would leave a trail. There were so many people working for her and so many people trying to get close to her; as long as she showed even a tiny hint of displeasure, others would rush to do her bidding.
Shen Yinan could make Luo Yejun’s life in the Student Union absolutely miserable.
When Shen Yinan returned to the dormitory, she happened to see Cheng Wanqiu hanging up the phone in a panicked state.
Seeing Shen Yinan, Cheng Wanqiu looked very surprised, her eyes wide.
“Shen Yinan, why are you back? Is the meeting over?”
Shen Yinan didn’t know if the Young Lady was startled by her sudden entrance or if she was hiding something else from her. She was dazed for only a second before quickly responding, “Yes, the meeting is over. Young Lady, I need to go out for a bit.”
Cheng Wanqiu agreed without a second thought. The tension in her heart was visible on her face; she wished Shen Yinan would leave immediately so she could catch her breath.
“Alright. I don’t have much to do today either. I’ll go out for a stroll myself later.”
Shen Yinan’s eyes remained fixed on Cheng Wanqiu’s phone.
Could it be Luo Yejun? Shen Yinan wondered.
However, no matter how much she thought, she wouldn’t think of her own parents. The Shen family was short on money again. Having received five million once, they wanted it a second time.
It seemed they had realized that as long as they used Shen Yinan as a threat, Cheng Wanqiu would surely agree.
“Young Lady.” Shen Yinan bit her lower lip, her brow furrowing slightly as she said something ambiguous, “Young Master Luo is not a man worthy of your trust.”
“…”
How could she not understand that sentence? Why does this have anything to do with Luo Yejun?
When Cheng Wanqiu turned to look at Shen Yinan again, the other had already pulled the bed curtain shut to change her clothes.
She looked at the phone in her hand. She had hurriedly hung up just now, fearing Shen Yinan would hear her father’s voice, which had made her nervous. After pondering for more than ten seconds, she finally understood: Shen Yinan thought she was calling Luo Yejun.
This girl is jealous.
She wanted to laugh but couldn’t. This time, Father Shen had given a deadline of half a month and hadn’t pushed too hard.
The Shen family… weren’t they supposed to be very good to Shen Yinan? Why did it seem like the Shen family was selling Shen Yinan like an object?
This was the person she liked. She didn’t want to see the family of the person she liked fall apart, nor did she want to see her beloved being exploited while still speaking well of them.
Cheng Wanqiu propped up her head, feeling conflicted and hesitant.
“Shen Yinan, last time I only let you go home for one day. Next time, I’ll go home with you, so you can spend more time with your family.”
The voice wasn’t loud, but it hit Shen Yinan’s ears like a thunderclap. Her hand, which was lifting her clothes, paused.
Her brain worked at high speed.
Able only to respond to the situation as it unfolded, Shen Yinan gave a soft “un.”
