I, A Loyal Dog, Awaken to My Fate as Cannon Fodder - Chapter 17
“Shen Yinan, stay home properly and don’t run around.”
It was around 10 o’clock in the morning when Cheng Wanqiu gave her instructions to Shen Yinan at the entrance of the Cheng residence, while simultaneously casting a meaningful glance at the butler who was seeing her off.
Cheng Wanqiu had notified the butler in advance, telling him to keep a close eye on Shen Yinan, and the butler had naturally agreed.
With her eyes cast downward, Shen Yinan’s face showed neither sorrow nor joy; it was impossible to discern what she was thinking.
She bowed slightly and said, “Safe travels, Miss.”
As she looked at Luo Yejun, who was already sitting in the car, Shen Yinan’s expression darkened several shades, her eyes fixed on him with a venomous stare.
Her throat felt as if it were being squeezed by someone; only by taking deep breaths could she ease the tightness in her chest.
“Be good. Yejun and I will be back soon, and I’ll bring you something delicious when we return.”
“Right, Yejun?”
Luo Yejun was nearly unable to suppress the wild joy in his heart. He stared infatuatedly at Cheng Wanqiu and nodded.
Shen Yinan’s expression grew a few degrees more unsightly.
As the car’s exhaust fumes dissipated, Shen Yinan lifted her head.
The butler was an elderly man in his sixties with white hair. He treated Shen Yinan quite well, much like his own granddaughter. No matter where Shen Yinan went, there were always people who doted on her.
“Yinan, go back to your room and stay there. Miss told you not to run around, so don’t run around.”
“Mm,” Shen Yinan squeezed out a polite smile. “Then I’ll head back to my room first.”
That smile was like a spring breeze, making one feel refreshed and comfortable.
But as soon as she was alone, she instantly retracted the smile, her expression turning gloomy. In an instant, she seemed like a completely different person.
Would she truly be content to stay in her room and wait for the Eldest Miss to return from her date at the aquarium with Luo Yejun?
Shen Yinan’s fingernails were nearly sinking into her palms, and her teeth ground together audibly.
This kind of thing was absolutely not allowed!!!
The Cheng residence was a villa with a garden. Most of the bedrooms were on the second floor or higher. The floor height was 4 meters, making the second floor 8 meters up.
No one would have expected that in order to stalk her Eldest Miss, Shen Yinan would mimic television shows by rolling her bedsheets into a rope to descend from a height of 8 meters.
And she actually managed to get down.
Shen Yinan changed her clothes and put on a mask. She even put on earrings and a ring—items she usually never wore—for the purpose of disguising herself.
In a slim-fit black wool coat, a white mask, and black sunglasses, anyone who saw her would have to admit she looked very cool.
On her ears were small silver circular clip-on earrings, and on her index finger was a green ring inlaid with a treacherous-looking eye. With these two small items as accents, the low pressure surrounding her softened slightly.
This outfit was entirely unrelated to her usual style. She had surveyed herself carefully; the Miss shouldn’t be able to discover that she was Shen Yinan, secretly sneaking out to stalk her.
Outside the A City Aquarium, there was a large penguin sculpture, and the blue glass building made one feel as if they were immersed in the ocean.
There were many people here. Almost as soon as Cheng Wanqiu stepped through the aquarium doors, Shen Yinan followed her in.
With so many people, there was no chance for anyone to look back; everyone was being ushered forward by the crowd.
Shen Yinan walked boldly behind Cheng Wanqiu, stalking her openly, and she could very clearly hear the Eldest Miss talking to Luo Yejun.
“Wanqiu, hold my hand so we won’t get separated,” Luo Yejun said bashfully, his earlobes turning bright red.
Cheng Wanqiu ignored Luo Yejun as if she hadn’t heard him.
Following behind, Shen Yinan was excited: Well done, Eldest Miss!
Shen Yinan was wearing a mask. If it weren’t for the fact that her eyes were so beautiful that the mask didn’t diminish her looks, others really would have mistaken her for some kind of pervert—a pervert eavesdropping on a “couple’s” conversation.
For some reason, a commotion broke out in the crowd ahead. People were jostling each other, and Cheng Wanqiu nearly ended up leaning against Luo Yejun.
Fortunately, Shen Yinan was quick-witted and pulled Cheng Wanqiu back, performing a good deed without leaving a name.
Cheng Wanqiu was about to say thank you, only to find she didn’t know who had pulled her.
She turned her head to look, but there were only strangers in black clothes. Everyone was like her, impacted by the sudden commotion, and no one would have had the time to pull her.
So, who was the person who helped her?
Shen Yinan saw this play out while standing behind a middle-aged man. She glanced contemptuously at Luo Yejun, who had taken quite a hard fall on the ground.
Cheng Wanqiu was puzzled, her cheeks puffed out slightly and her eyes thoughtful.
At that moment, Luo Yejun had collided with another man. Although it was the other man who had bumped into him first, Luo Yejun looked so thin and weak, as if he couldn’t handle anything.
Shen Yinan looked down even more on this “sickly-obsessive” male lead of the book. She looked at him as if she were looking at trash.
“Get off!”
Luo Yejun pushed the man pressing down on him with his weak arms. Under the blue and white lights of the aquarium, his lips appeared unusually red and his teeth white, giving him a strangely delicate and pretty appearance.
At least, in comparison to the muscular, dark-skinned man pinning him down.
Luo Yejun’s eyes looked sharp enough to kill. With dark circles around his eyes and a pale face, one wouldn’t doubt he was an actor who had just stepped off the set of a ghost movie.
His gloomy eyes looked as if they wanted to murder the man on top of him.
The surrounding crowd moved aside for the men who had fallen hard on the ground, and Shen Yinan was among them.
Her attention was entirely focused on how to deal with Luo Yejun. In a moment of negligence, she didn’t realize that a pair of eyes was watching her.
The owner of those eyes seemed to have solved all her doubts and smiled.
Cheng Wanqiu stood at a distance, watching quietly, acting as if she had nothing to do with Luo Yejun.
She hadn’t spent those years with Luo Yejun for nothing; she knew his temperament well. He was easily provoked and had a violent temper. When they were young, she had seen a maid trying to feed him; because he didn’t want to eat, he took a fruit knife and stabbed the maid.
In any case, Cheng Wanqiu didn’t want to be associated with Luo Yejun and kept her distance.
What interested her was that she knew given Shen Yinan’s personality, seeing her go on a “date” with Luo Yejun would definitely drive her to find a way to follow. She might even cause trouble.
Cheng Wanqiu couldn’t suppress the smile on the corners of her lips.
The two men on the ground started brawling. Luo Yejun threatened to kill the other party.
If she didn’t call the police now, when would she?
The belly-black and calculating Shen Yinan directly sent Young Master Luo to sit in the police station for a day. She didn’t want to see Luo Yejun following her Eldest Miss like a fly anymore. It made her very irritable.
Even between a dog and its master, the dog doesn’t want the master to go out and flirt with others, returning home covered in their scent.
Luo Yejun’s matter was quickly handled, and he was taken to the police station for a day’s stay.
The crowd gradually dispersed, and the path through the glass-domed tunnel became wider, though it was still crowded—just slightly better than before.
Schools of small fish were separated from the humans by only a thick layer of glass. They swam and foraged above people’s heads, while two staff members in diving suits worked while waving to the tourists.
Clearly, everyone’s gaze should have been attracted by the fish and the divers.
Yet for some reason, a powerful magnetic field drew people’s eyes toward Shen Yinan and Cheng Wanqiu.
Shen Yinan stopped her pace, her eyes following Cheng Wanqiu as she moved slowly. She was looking at the scenery, unaware that she herself was a part of it.
The blue and white light strips shone on her, making her look like a mermaid from the deep sea. The mermaid stared infatuatedly at the sailor walking ahead, wanting to get close but fearing she might disturb them.
Many people pulled out their phones to take photos of Shen Yinan from various angles; her melancholy aura was something ordinary people didn’t possess. Even with the mask, one could tell that beneath it was an exquisitely beautiful face.
In a trance, she seemed to hear a voice calling her name.
“Shen Yinan.”
By the time Shen Yinan snapped out of it, there was no one calling her name. Instead, many people were asking what her name was.
“Miss, what’s your name?” “Wooo, I can do it! Will you be my girlfriend, please?” “Is this some kind of celebrity? It’s been a long time since I followed the entertainment industry. She’s so beautiful, she must be a star!!!”
The crowd held up their phones to take pictures of Shen Yinan. One should know that Shen Yinan feared crowds the most; being taciturn and introverted, she appeared somewhat at a loss when questioned by so many people.
What was the difference between her and the little fish and shrimp trapped in the aquarium? Seeing the crowd gradually closing in on her, she didn’t know when Cheng Wanqiu had been swallowed up by the throng.
Without the Eldest Miss to resolve the situation for her, she truly didn’t know what to do.
“Sister, sister, look at me!!!” “A one-night stand is okay too!!!” “It’s even okay if you just play with my feelings!!!”
When faced with people, Shen Yinan would become very dazed, her pupils filled with fear.
“I…”
“Sorry, she’s my girlfriend. Why are you here?”
Suddenly, the crowd was pushed aside to form a path, and Cheng Wanqiu squeezed through. Her voice was neither loud nor soft, but it reached everyone’s ears.
Slowly, the boisterous crowd ceased its clamor.
Seeing her savior, Shen Yinan stared at her master with pious eyes, like a dog. Her tail, which she usually refused to show, was wagging incessantly, and her ears practically stood up in excitement. It was as if one could hear her panting with her tongue out—ha-ha, ha-ha—ready to pounce into her master’s arms for comfort at any moment.
“Why are you here? Hold my hand and don’t get lost again.”
In her eyes, Cheng Wanqiu was like a brilliant spark as she walked toward her.
It was the same when they were young. After Shen Yinan was brought back to the Cheng family and transferred to the school Cheng Wanqiu attended, she had been surrounded by classmates asking this and that. Having never dealt with so many people, she had been at a loss.
It was Cheng Wanqiu who had pushed through the crowd, pulled her away from the classmates, and taken her to the hallway outside the classroom to get some air.
It was the same now. Her hand was held by Cheng Wanqiu as they walked out of the crowd.
“What’s your name?”
Shen Yinan had originally thought the Eldest Miss had already guessed who she was.
“Eh???”
It seemed her disguise was quite successful. Shen Yinan lowered her head and did not answer.
“Haha, it’s fine if you don’t want to tell me. Then, can you wander the aquarium with me?”
Cheng Wanqiu looked straight ahead and walked forward with large strides, the grip on her hand tightening. Whether Shen Yinan was willing or not, she had to be.
“Ah???” After a moment, Shen Yinan reacted. “Okay.”
“Hmph, you really are interesting.”
Cheng Wanqiu said indifferently.
The underlying meaning of those words remained unknown. Shen Yinan simply smiled.
