Husband Role - Episode 34
Eun-seol, who came from <Flower Shower>, was holding a large bouquet of flowers. It was a bouquet featuring orange roses and light pink carnations. And hanging from her wrist was a black plastic bag full of Melona ice cream bars.
Soon, the car entered a yard with a magnificent pine tree. Bong-cheol, wearing a straw hat, was seen navigating through a small, decorated vegetable garden.
“Dad—!”
Eun-seol called out to Bong-cheol, gently shaking the flowers. Bong-cheol threw down the basket he was holding as if discarding it and ran towards Eun-seol.
“My daughter’s here!”
He hugged her tightly, and she smelled sweat and old man’s scent. Some might dislike it, but not Eun-seol. This was also a scent she could smell because Bong-cheol was alive.
“I can’t breathe.”
Eun-seol replied with a groan, and Bong-cheol quickly stepped back. Eun-seol gave him a playful smile.
“I brought Melona, you know?”
“Melona!”
Bong-cheol grinned like a child.
Eun-seol took Bong-cheol’s hand and pulled him to the gazebo. The two sat on the gazebo and shared the Melona ice cream bars amicably.
Bong-cheol, who had already eaten two ice cream bars, started insisting on having another one. Eun-seol tried to stop him. As the argument dragged on, Bong-cheol bumped his head against Eun-seol’s forehead. Thump
“Ouch!”
It was when Eun-seol was rubbing her reddened forehead with a sulky face. Bong-cheol quickly snatched the ice cream bar and said with a chuckle.
“See? It’s because you only bring them sometimes that I get stubborn.”
“Because I don’t come often, were you sad?”
“I was just waiting for our Ji-young the whole time.”
Bong-cheol, biting into the melting ice cream, continued.
“Dad really thought my neck was going to fall off, you rascal.”
Bong-cheol said it casually, but Eun-seol’s heart ached.
“Is that so? You were waiting.”
Eun-seol murmured, wiping Bong-cheol’s mouth.
“But daughter. What’s wrong with your face?”
“Face?”
Eun-seol asked back, stroking her cheek.
“You look so down!”
“…It’s nothing.”
“What is it? Tell Dad.”
Bong-cheol asked back, ignoring the Melona. He really looked like a dad. Eun-seol teared up at that.
“Geez… don’t look at me like that.”
“Is that woman from last time bothering you?”
“Dad…”
“Yeah! I’m your dad, what can’t you tell me! Why are you suffering alone, you rascal? It breaks my heart when you’re like this.”
From before, I wanted to tell you.
That I want to stay by your side, not Dae-hyuk’s house.
That I want to rely on each other, even if we’re weak, and stick together.
“Dad will take care of everything, Ji-young-ah.”
Bong-cheol hugged Eun-seol tightly. The Melona that fell upside down was buried in the ground.
“Once it passes, it’s just a rain shower.”
“…Uh-huh.”
Eun-seol’s arms around Bong-cheol tightened.
“Don’t waste your energy on a rain shower. Just use an umbrella well. Got it?”
Again, murmuring uh-huh, Eun-seol briefly stifled her sobs.
Bong-cheol couldn’t wait a moment and pulled away from Eun-seol.
And he got angry at the ice cream that had become food for the ants.
“Geez. My Melona—!”
Eun-seol, who had stopped crying, soothed Bong-cheol. Bong-cheol screamed that it was her fault. Eun-seol felt sad at the gap with her grandfather, which was difficult to keep up with even with effort.
“I ended up crying.”
Eun-seol said as she got into Jung-hyuk’s car.
Jung-hyuk, who had said he was on a business trip to Seoul, suddenly came to pick her up in front of Bong-cheol’s house.
“Good job.”
Jung-hyuk replied in a low voice. Eun-seol’s heart fluttered at the comforting resonance. It was nice. These surprise encounters were like receiving unexpected gifts.
“Shouldn’t you be telling me not to cry?”
Eun-seol asked back, feigning displeasure. Then Jung-hyuk raised the corners of his lips.
“You need to do that sometimes to feel refreshed.”
You had a very fulfilling day.
He said it again like that. Eun-seol felt embarrassed for no reason at the small acknowledgement.
“But you have to go back up right away today, right?”
Eun-seol asked cautiously.
“I can leave in the evening.”
It meant he was going back. Eun-seol suppressed her disappointment and nodded.
“You don’t have any other plans, do you?”
Eun-seol replied that she had finished her part-time job and visited Bong-cheol’s house, so she didn’t have anything else to do.
“Then let’s go somewhere with me.”
“…Where?”
“The Hocheon Foundation’s 50th anniversary is coming up.”
“Ah… yes.”
“I’d like you to pick out the clothes I’ll wear then.”
Even at his blunt suggestion, Eun-seol replied in a bright voice, “Yes, okay.”
“You answer well.”
Jung-hyuk smiled faintly and pressed the pedal deeply.
Arriving at the department store, Eun-seol wore a serious expression as she walked around the men’s clothing section. Jung-hyuk said that anything plain and simple would be fine. But Eun-seol replied that she couldn’t do that.
“They say men look better after they get married. It’s your first official appearance as a married man, so you have to look good.”
Eun-seol said.
His expression as he muttered “look good…” was displeased. At that, Eun-seol burst into a soft laugh and scanned Jung-hyuk in the mirror.
“Because Jung-hyuk is my face.”
Jung-hyuk stroked Eun-seol’s hair without answering.
After choosing everything for him, Eun-seol suggested to Jung-hyuk.
“If you have time, let’s get something to eat. I’m hungry.”
“I don’t have time.”
Jung-hyuk replied curtly and headed to the luxury goods section on the first floor. Eun-seol thought he still had something to buy.
She followed him into the store, which had a classy interior and was filled with a pleasant fragrance. The employees were all elegant and kind.
Eun-seol’s curious eyes reached everywhere. A customer who was just paying caught her eye.
“I’ll help you with the payment of 14.4 million won. Would you like to pay in installments?”
Eun-seol, startled, stared at the white shopping bag. The shopping bag wasn’t even that big, but the amount was over ten million won.
“Installments? You know my style.”
A middle-aged woman took out a small bag from the shopping bag and continued.
“Oh, I thought I was going to die waiting for this black caviar.”
“We are just grateful that you waited until it was in stock. It really looks like Madam’s bag. It’s like a unification of elegance.”
“Director Kang, really. That’s why I like Director Kang. Hehe.”
Eun-seol quietly looked at Jung-hyuk.
What on earth was he going to buy here?
She felt like it would be difficult to offer an opinion this time. As if reading her mind, Jung-hyuk didn’t ask Eun-seol any questions either.
“Welcome, customer.”
An employee with a neat smile approached the couple.
“I’d like to buy some clothes for my wife.”
Eun-seol, startled, gently grabbed Jung-hyuk’s arm. She asked with her eyes, “Me?” Jung-hyuk didn’t answer.
“Should we look at casual wear?”
Then the employee asked back.
“She’ll be wearing it to a formal event.”
Jung-hyuk replied.
“…Seon, no, Jung-hyuk.”
“Shh.”
As if he wouldn’t listen to Eun-seol, he blocked her completely.
The employee didn’t miss the opportunity and politely led the couple, saying, “Please come this way.”
The employee showed her several designs of clothes, including a dress with a deeply plunging V-neck.
Oh my god.
Those were outfits that she had only seen in magazines. The designs weren’t flashy, but they were too luxurious for Eun-seol to handle. In a word, they were for “adults.”
“Would Madam like to try them on?”
“Ah… I’m okay…”
“Yes. Please.”
Jung-hyuk suddenly interrupted.
Eun-seol groaned and looked at Jung-hyuk. He gestured with his chin without changing his expression. It meant she should follow the employee.
Eun-seol ended up trying on several outfits like that. It was difficult to refuse because the employee was so kind.
When the fashion show was over, Jung-hyuk muttered with a serious face.
“Difficult.”
“I agree, customer.”
The employee nodded slightly and added an explanation.
“Madam has a petite figure, but her proportions are so good. In times like these, it’s really difficult for us to know what to recommend.”
Eun-seol was just troubled by the prices she had secretly checked in the fitting room.
“I like this one the most.”
She picked the cheapest dress among the ones she had tried on. Still, it was well over six million won.
“You have excellent taste.”
The employee smiled gently and continued the explanation.
“This design has a dressy line, so you can enjoy a formal feel just by matching it with the right jewelry.”
“Please recommend that as well.”
Jung-hyuk said.
“Yes, I’ll prepare it right away. Would you like to look at the catalog first?”
“Okay.”
Jung-hyuk sat comfortably on the sofa and opened the catalog. Her husband’s appearance was very natural.
“Just asking in case, is there anything you like?”
He asked, staring at the page with various gemstone photos.
“No.”
“Okay. I’ll choose.”
There was a sharp reply without a single gap. Eun-seol lowered her waist slightly and whispered, “I’m really okay.”
Jung-hyuk got up as if he couldn’t hear. And he looked around the showcase where the bags were displayed and picked out two designs.
She felt like something would really happen if she stayed any longer.
Eun-seol insisted on refusing everything except the dress and earrings that the employee had recommended and left the store.
But Jung-hyuk was a formidable opponent.
He went straight into the luxury goods store next door and additionally paid for a lambskin satchel bag and a jewel-encrusted clutch. In the luxury goods store next door, he bought skin-colored stilettos, and then headed back to the central store on the first floor to purchase other jewelry and a watch.
Finally, he stopped in front of the perfume corner before taking the escalator.
“Jung-hyuk…”
Eun-seol shook her head with a puppy-like face. But her husband was relentless.
Eun-seol said to Jung-hyuk, who had finally bought perfume.
“Let’s take the elevator.”
If her husband couldn’t pass by a mill without stopping… she had to make sure he couldn’t see the mill.
“You said you were hungry.”
He even stopped by the food court on the first basement floor and ordered a handmade burger. He also explained that he didn’t have time, tapping his wristwatch, so they had to eat in the car.
He was unfriendly yet friendly.
“That was too much.”
Eun-seol, who had gotten into the car, finally expressed her beliefs with an angry face.
“You’re my face too.”
He gave her back the words she had said. It was petty.
Eun-seol picked up the hamburger without answering. She had been angry at Jung-hyuk for not listening to her and had been trying not to eat it.
But the smell of the food was fatally enchanting, and she was very, very hungry.
Then Jung-hyuk snatched the hamburger and neatly peeled off the wax paper.
Eun-seol chewed the hamburger with a sulky face.
The meal continued in silence. As soon as she finished the hamburger, they arrived in front of her house in Hannam-dong.
Eun-seol sighed just thinking about moving all those shopping bags into the house.
“What will the adults think?”
Eun-seol said in a much softer voice. Her pointed mood had improved a little after filling her hunger.
Jung-hyuk chuckled softly at his wife, who became harmless as long as she was full.
“There’s nothing to worry about.”
And he added.
“Your husband. He’s wealthier than you think.”
