Husband Role - Episode 29
The next day, Kyung-ha approached Eun-seol, who had come to the inner quarters, with a troubled expression.
“I’m so sorry to our in-laws.”
The gist of it was that a child at the orphanage she supported had collapsed with a high fever. High fever is critical for infants. So, she explained that she felt she had to go to the child who followed her like a mother.
“No, Mother. Then I’ll deliver this right away.”
“Eat breakfast before you go.”
“It’s okay, I had a late-night snack alone yesterday, so I feel a bit bloated. I’ll eat after I come back.”
Eun-seol insisted firmly.
“And Mother, please take the car. The child must be waiting a lot. I can take a taxi, it’s quick.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. Then I’ll be back.”
After Eun-seol left, the family had breakfast as usual.
Kyung-ha quickly finished her meal and hurried to prepare to go out.
While applying lotion roughly at the vanity, she suddenly had a thought.
Why was Eun-seol in such a hurry?
What Rose said, and somehow, it seemed like she had missed something.
“Look at my mind.”
Kyung-ha checked the wall clock and hurriedly left the main room.
Just then, the sound of the front door opening was heard.
Following that, Jung-hyuk, with a clean face, entered.
“Where’s Eun-seol?”
The son skipped the greetings and immediately looked for his daughter-in-law.
“Did you miss your wife that much?”
Kyung-ha gave a deflated smile at that. Jung-hyuk brushed off the answer with a dry cough.
“I heard you were arriving at night, but you came early.”
“It just happened that way.”
The highest-rated equipment’s risk assessment was completely re-examined. The ongoing project was also put on hold.
“Why? Did something happen? Isn’t it difficult?”
Kyung-ha, who was familiar with the company’s ways, asked with a worried face. She knew that suddenly having time off was not a good sign.
“No.”
It wasn’t that difficult. However, the team members’ morale had dropped because the project that had been gaining momentum had stopped.
The real problem was next. When the project resumed, the deadline would be tight. At that time, he might have to spend weekends in Ulsan as well.
Anyway, it wasn’t an immediate situation.
“It’s just temporarily delayed.”
Kyung-ha nodded, relieved at Jung-hyuk’s words. And she added.
“Eun-seol went to her parents’ house.”
“…At this hour?”
It was not even 9 a.m.
“Yes, it’s been about 30 minutes.”
As soon as Kyung-ha’s answer was finished, Jung-hyuk left the house. In a hurry, he pressed the smart key from afar. The side mirrors unfolded, and the LED lamps on both sides lit up long.
Jung-hyuk got into the car and hurriedly pressed the start button. And he habitually put the smart key in the cup holder.
The platinum keyring attached to the key sparkled.
The groom toy’s keyholder was a birthday present from Eun-seol.
When Eun-seol opened the front door, So-hee looked down with a cold gaze.
“Are you alone?”
Perhaps because of the news of Kyung-ha’s visit, she was dressed up from the morning.
“Yes, my mother had something urgent to do.”
As soon as Eun-seol opened her lips, two Maltese dogs growled and barked. Eun-seol continued without looking down.
“I had to come alone. I ask for your understanding.”
And with a calm face, she handed the icebox to Mrs. Ma-san. Mrs. Ma-san frowned at Eun-seol’s detachment.
“Please accept it. My mother-in-law took care of it.”
Eun-seol said again. Mrs. Ma-san glanced at So-hee. Then So-hee nodded once as a sign of permission.
Mrs. Ma-san, who was glaring at Eun-seol with a venomous look, snatched the icebox away. She staggered for a moment because it was heavy. Anyway, Mrs. Ma-san took it and disappeared into the kitchen.
“You’re living the high life.”
So-hee sneered with a cold face.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
Eun-seol replied in a blunt tone.
“Taking Min-seo’s place, are you happy?”
“Ah, about that…”
Eun-seol continued with a faint smile.
“I’m very happy.”
So-hee’s insides burned, and she frowned.
“It seems so. Seeing you come in through the front door confidently even though you came alone. They say a woman only needs to marry well. You’re just like that.”
“If I didn’t have anything to deliver, I would have come to the basement.”
“Yeah, right.”
So-hee added with an incredulous face.
“I ran into Jun-seo at the movie theater. He said you’ve become a dragon, I can see why.”
“Does Jun-seo talk about me too?”
Eun-seol asked back with a blank face.
“Still, she’s his cousin.”
Unlike the soft voice, So-hee’s face was extremely cold.
“It seems like the mother-son relationship has gotten a lot better these days.”
“…How cheeky.”
So-hee glared and bit her lip.
“Then did he tell you about this too? That his girlfriend looks good with blonde hair and a short skirt. I don’t know what the kids have been up to…”
Even while watching So-hee clench her fist tightly, Eun-seol continued without hesitation.
“I smelled a bit of alcohol too.”
So-hee’s expression changed as if it would break if touched.
“Excuse me.”
It was when Eun-seol was passing by as if she couldn’t see such a face of So-hee. So-hee grabbed Eun-seol’s arm and turned her around.
“Who is she?”
So-hee asked with excited eyes.
She was such a mother.
Walking on thin ice, worried about disturbing the top student Min-seo, and at the same time, busy monitoring the troublemaker Jun-seo.
Too busy taking care of the siblings in her kangaroo pouch, she ended up missing what was really important.
Besides, she didn’t get tired.
Watching her always chasing after the children, sometimes it felt amazing.
“I don’t know.”
So-hee forcibly dragged Eun-seol to the sofa, answering casually.
“Sit down.”
“Just tell me.”
Eun-seol said, shaking off the arm that had been grabbed. She meant she would listen while standing.
She had scratched So-hee enough. So, she didn’t want to talk any longer.
Then So-hee gave a twisted laugh, “Ha.”
“It’s best not to set foot in our house in the future. I’m saying this thinking of our old friendship, so it’s best to take it to heart.”
Eun-seol scoffed inwardly at So-hee’s warning. She had no intention of coming here again. She never would.
“Yes, I will.”
As Eun-seol headed back to the basement, So-hee threw a question mark.
“Did you know?”
Eun-seol turned her body slightly at the sudden question.
“K Pharmaceuticals’ son.”
“What do you mean?”
“The man Min-seo had a blind date with.”
“I haven’t heard anything about that.”
Then So-hee took a step closer to Eun-seol. And she looked down at Eun-seol, who was smaller than her, and said fiercely.
“Did you know how rude he was? Introducing some worthless guy, and then shamelessly flaunting it.”
So-hee continued to lash out as if she was speechless the more she thought about it.
“So, your mother-in-law or…”
So-hee’s rude tone pierced Eun-seol’s heart like a thorn.
“Your husband would have heard it, wouldn’t he?”
She didn’t know, but she couldn’t tolerate touching her family.
“How the blind date with Min-seo ended.”
Eun-seol really didn’t know anything. Because Kyung-ha, Jung-hyuk, hadn’t even given the slightest hint.
But she felt like she knew even without hearing it. The conclusion was obvious because So-hee was so angry.
“Min-seo…”
Eun-seol deliberately wore a colder sneer.
“She got dumped.”
At the same time, So-hee slapped Eun-seol’s cheek. Mrs. Ma-san, who was next to her, laughed, saying, “Serves you right!” as if to be heard.
“You…”
So-hee grabbed Eun-seol’s collar and glared.
“Just because you snagged the daughter-in-law position at the Hocheon Foundation, you’re looking down on us?”
“If you raise your hand one more time, I won’t hold back and will respond.”
Eun-seol felt like she was going to cry, but she held back and retorted.
“Try it, go ahead.”
It was when So-hee raised her hand high again. Eun-seol threw the vase that was on the living room table at the television as it was.
Crash—! The surprised dogs barked loudly.
The television cracked, and the fallen vase shattered into pieces.
So-hee was worried that her two companion dogs would get hurt, so she shouted loudly, “Auntie—!”
At that, Mrs. Ma-san crossed the broken vases as if doing acrobatics and quickly picked up the two dogs.
So-hee slapped Eun-seol’s small head so hard that it made a sound,
“Are you crazy?!”
She shouted.
Eun-seol’s hair, which had turned to the left, was messed up, and the bag she was carrying on her shoulder also fell down.
Eun-seol quietly straightened her hair and glared at the two companion dogs.
Then So-hee shouted again, “Where are you looking now?”
“Do you know what it feels like to lose something precious?”
Eun-seol retorted coldly.
Of course, she had no intention of threatening the dogs. She just wanted to scare So-hee, who loved her companion dogs so much.
So, don’t touch me anymore.
“You… you…”
Eun-seol bent down and picked up the fallen bag. And she quietly moved her steps.
She heard Mrs. Ma-san’s shout from behind, “Madam—!” but it was nothing to do with her.
The basement room was the same as she had left it.
Suddenly, she felt suffocated.
Eun-seol’s gaze quickly turned to the desk. She saw a picture of a smiling young mom and dad. Eun-seol quickly snatched it up. And she turned her back on the room.
Never again.
It was a place she really never wanted to come back to.
She quickly climbed the external stairs. The entrance connected to the garage was once Eun-seol’s private gate.
If she just got out of here, she would be able to breathe.
But Eun-seol, who opened the iron gate, froze.
“…Why are you coming out from there?”
Because she had run head-on into Jung-hyuk, who had just gotten out of the car.
