How To Save Yourself From Being Targeted By The Anemo Archon In Genshin Impact? - Chapter 8
Immediately following the silence, two heavy thuds reached Ragnvindr’s ears. He spun around and looked up sharply to see a youth with short black hair standing there.
The youth’s peach blossom eyes crinkled slightly as he released the unconscious soldiers of the Gale Army. He unhurriedly withdrew the black gold chain, spinning it around his hand a few times. Seeing Ragnvindr’s gaze, Jiang Yubai curled his lips into a smile. “Yo. Hello there.”
The two children froze, staring at the sudden turn of events. Ragnvindr followed the line of the chain down to the iron shackle bolted around the youth’s ankle. He glanced at the bare feet, his expression turning odd, before moving to the tattered, strange clothing the youth wore.
Combined with the youth’s fair and handsome face, he looked exactly like an escaped plaything of a nobleman. It was inevitable for Ragnvindr to misinterpret the situation. They had just been arrested because Arnold was harassing a young boy, and seeing such an exquisite man inside the tower made it difficult not to draw a connection.
The chain used to bind the youth had now become his weapon. Ragnvindr wondered if this man was simply versatile or exceptionally skilled. Could someone this fast really be captured by Arnold? Or had Arnold used some underhanded means? Ragnvindr even felt that if he were to fight the man before him, he would likely be the one to lose.
Perhaps because Ragnvindr stared for too long with such a strange expression, Jiang Yubai followed the man’s gaze and noticed a patch of his own fair skin. His white shirt had been shredded by the gale, leaving visible gaps.
Jiang Yubai: …
People here are so conservative. They stare for so long at just a bit of skin. What, haven’t they seen it before? I have gone completely shirtless with only shorts on before. If people here saw that, would they call me scandalous? Seriously.
Jiang Yubai’s lip twitched as he pulled his jacket tighter to cover himself. Then, the red-haired man spoke. “Who are you?”
Ragnvindr had grown up within the wind wall and knew almost everyone. He was certain he had never seen this youth. The youth’s appearance was so unique that anyone who saw him once would never forget him. Ragnvindr was absolutely sure they had never met.
Jiang Yubai looked at Ragnvindr, his eyebrows arching playfully. “Your savior.”
Ragnvindr had not expected such a response. The youth’s unconventional logic left him momentarily speechless.
Host, now is not the time for jokes. We need to leave quickly! Once Decarabian realizes you are gone, we won’t be able to escape! The System hovered in front of Jiang Yubai, urging him at a rapid pace.
I know.
Ragnvindr wanted to say more, but Jiang Yubai raised a finger to his lips and signaled for silence. He walked over to the two children, who were staring at him in a daze, and tapped them on their heads. Once they snapped out of it, he said, “Jiang Yubai. We can talk about the details once we are out. If we don’t move now, we won’t be able to leave when the one upstairs arrives.”
Ragnvindr shifted his gaze away from the youth’s handsome face and nodded.
With the System scouting the route ahead, Jiang Yubai led the three of them down the tower with bold confidence. As Ragnvindr followed him around a corner, he saw a floor littered with unconscious guards. He gained an even deeper understanding of Jiang Yubai’s strength. Judging by how they were lying, these men were likely taken down before they even realized anyone was there.
Was someone like this really captured? Ragnvindr watched Jiang Yubai’s leisurely pace. If it weren’t for the chain in his hand, it would have looked like they were merely taking a stroll in a garden.
Reaching the next level, more guards were stationed at the stairs. Before Ragnvindr could move, Jiang Yubai had already neutralized them. Noticing the lack of footsteps, Jiang Yubai looked back in confusion. “What are you staring at? Let’s go.”
Ragnvindr was stunned. This was the first time he had experienced the feeling of being protected. It was a strange sensation. He kept a straight face, leading the two children closely behind Jiang Yubai until they reached the base of the tower.
As soon as Jiang Yubai stepped outside, a violent gust slapped his face, messing up his hair and plastering it against his skin. He smoothed it back, only for the wind to ruin it again. He finally understood why everyone here wore ponytails. However, his hair was at an awkward length, too short to tie up properly.
“Great! We actually escaped!” the blonde boy cried excitedly. His pale face flushed with color. After thanking Ragnvindr, he and his brother walked up to Jiang Yubai and bowed like little adults. “Thank you! If it weren’t for you, we would be dead.”
“It is nothing. Just a small matter.”
As they spoke, a blue-haired man suddenly rushed out from a corner and hugged the two boys tightly. His face was full of emotion, and his hands trembled as he held them. Behind him stood a youth who was quite striking.
At first glance, Jiang Yubai’s eyes were drawn to the black braids resting on the youth’s shoulders. Combined with his features, it was not at all out of place, nor would anyone mistake him for a girl. Everyone here seemed to have such a unique look with blue hair and blue eyes, red hair and red eyes, and now black hair with blue eyes. It was as if people in this world were characters from a 2D anime.
Jiang Yubai’s gaze lingered on the youth for only two seconds before his vision was covered in white. “Guji!”
It was the Wind Spirit. The soft chirping was filled with unmistakable joy. Jiang Yubai pulled the spirit off his face, surprised. “How did you show up here?”
“Ah, so you are Jiang Yubai. He mentions you to me every day.” The youth’s eyes were filled with wonder, which quickly turned into solemnity as he looked at the red-haired swordsman. “This is not the place to talk. Ragnvindr, let’s get out of here first.”
They clearly knew each other. Jiang Yubai nodded as they looked his way. He followed them through various twists and turns until they entered a small house.
The blue-haired man, Lawrence, finally stabilized his emotions. He moved to kneel before Ragnvindr in gratitude, but the swordsman stopped him, his expression cold and indifferent. “Don’t misunderstand. I was not the one who saved them. He was.” Ragnvindr pointed toward the youth who was currently wrestling with the Wind Spirit.
Lawrence paused and walked over to thank Jiang Yubai. This youth did not look like he had the strength to save anyone. His clothes were in tatters and he wore a shackle on his bare ankle, though the chain was now tossed carelessly on the floor.
If someone were to pull that chain now, one might expect to see a look of panic on the youth’s beautiful face.
Jiang Yubai removed the Wind Spirit’s small, clinging body for the tenth time, only for it to hug him again. Finally, he gave up and let the spirit stay attached to him. He waved a hand casually at Lawrence. “No problem. It was just on the way.”
System, what is wrong with the Wind Spirit? He is sticking to me like glue. He was never this affectionate before. Jiang Yubai watched the spirit circle him and sniff him like a puppy.
This… maybe he wants to see if you are hurt? The System watched as the spirit finally settled on top of Jiang Yubai’s head. After all, Host, you suddenly escaped right from Decarabian’s hands.
“Benefactor, this…” Lawrence looked hesitantly at Jiang Yubai’s clothes and the shackle. “Were you also captured by Arnold?”
“Arnold?” Jiang Yubai recalled Ragnvindr mentioning a noble. He shook his head and corrected them as they watched in shock. “It was Decarabian.”
“?!”
Who? Lawrence froze like a statue. Ragnvindr’s usually expressionless face looked as if it were about to crack. Freier, the youth with the lyre, stopped mid-movement, but he recovered quickly. The Wind Spirit had burst into his room in the middle of the night, chirping urgently. It had taken Freier quite a while to understand the message.
The spirit said its believer had been taken to the tower by the God of Storms. It was not hard to guess who that believer was; the spirit shared stories of Jiang Yubai every day. He had not expected the man to be captured so soon. Freier had been worried because once someone is taken to the tower, rescue is almost impossible, especially if Decarabian himself took the prisoner.
Even with Ragnvindr taking the risk, they had not known if he would return safely. Unexpectedly, they had all escaped unharmed alongside Jiang Yubai.
Lawrence asked dryly, “Why did he capture you?”
He then saw Jiang Yubai’s face darken, which scared Lawrence into silence.
“Who knows? Maybe he is just sick in the head,” Jiang Yubai said.
“Guji.” The Wind Spirit nodded its head solemnly in agreement.
Seeing the rapport between them, Freier laughed. Jiang Yubai looked at him, and the youth coughed softly, his blue eyes warm. “I have not introduced myself yet. I am Freier, a bard of this city.” Freier gestured with his lyre, watching the spirit move from the top of the youth’s head back to his face. “It turns out those strange words the Wind Spirit says were all learned from you.”
Jiang Yubai was stunned. “You can understand him?”
Freier nodded and then shook his head. “I do not understand him directly, but the way the wind plucks the strings of my lyre allows me to comprehend his meaning.”
Jiang Yubai pinched the spirit on his head and held it up. The spirit shook the two gradient feathers on its head and grabbed Jiang’s palm with its tiny white hands, its black eyes blinking. “Ji.”
Jiang Yubai looked at the bard. “What did he say?”
Freier hummed. “Well, if he does not actively pluck the strings, I cannot understand either.”
In the next second, several notes rang out from Freier’s lyre. Lawrence and the two children watched in silence. Ragnvindr leaned against the wall, watching them. After a moment, Freier’s lip twitched imperceptibly.
“He said, ‘My believer, don’t just grab my head without saying a word.'” Freier finished translating and could not help but laugh out loud.
Jiang Yubai: …
System: Uh…
