How To Save Yourself From Being Targeted By The Anemo Archon In Genshin Impact? - Chapter 6
Jiang Yubai stared at the iron chain on his ankle for a moment. Then, as if nothing were wrong, he reached out and gave it a tug. A sharp clatter of metal rang through the room.
The System kept its mouth shut, wisely staying silent. Its host had never been treated like this before. In previous worlds, even the protagonists treated him better than the female leads. He had never been locked up like a common criminal. According to the host’s personality, the System expected him to pick the lock and discard the eyesore immediately; after all, his skills were countless.
However, Jiang Yubai was too lazy to complain about Decarabian’s twisted sense of humor. He got out of bed and stood up. Fortunately, the chain was long enough to allow him to reach the window.
A bolt of lightning suddenly streaked across the purple sky. Howling winds bent the trees at unnatural angles. He was high up in a tower. From this vantage point, he could see the people below, all hunched over, struggling to move against the gale.
So this is the Royal City inside the wind wall Hilde mentioned. This environment makes it no wonder they ran away.
The storm kept people from standing straight, and with the sky perpetually obscured by the gale, there was not a sliver of light. Living in such an environment would inevitably lead to psychological issues. This tower did not even have windows; the wind simply slapped him in the face.
He smoothed back his hair, which had been ruffled by the wind. Under the System’s watchful gaze, Jiang Yubai climbed back into bed and lay down. He did not move.
System: ???
It was waiting for the host to show off his power, but what was this?!
Host, aren’t you going to escape?
Jiang Yubai replied in his mind: Escaping is a must, but not right now.
Why?
Asleep. Do not disturb.
System: …
Then it remembered—the host had secretly wanted to come here anyway. This was exactly what he wanted. The System scanned the surroundings with its round eyes. A soft bed, a private room… alright, it understood. The host was going to lie flat and retire right then and there.
As Jiang Yubai slept, something suddenly flopped onto his face, covering his nose so tightly he could hardly breathe. He reached out, pulled the “object” away, and opened his eyes to see a pair of beady black eyes.
It was the Wind Spirit. It had actually found its way here.
Jiang Yubai felt quite touched. Did he realize I was gone and come looking for me? My daily feedings weren’t in vain.
“Guji!” The Wind Spirit struggled out of his grip and tugged at his short hair. It was filled with urgency, desperate for Jiang Yubai to follow it out of there.
“Ouch!” His scalp stung from the pulling. Jiang Yubai sat up and leaned forward. The Wind Spirit’s eyes were full of anxiety, as if afraid the Demon God would discover them. It kept pulling at him, urging him to move.
“Hold on, I want to go with you, but I can’t,” Jiang Yubai sighed, rattling the chain on his leg. “See? I’m tied up.”
The Wind Spirit froze. Its small black eyes reflected the youth’s bare foot and the black shackle around his ankle. It followed the chain and saw it was bolted to the bed.
The spirit circled his ankle anxiously. Suddenly, a cyan glow erupted from its body. A gentle power enveloped the iron chain. But the moment the energy touched the metal, the Wind Spirit gave a startled cry and was bounced back.
The chain was clearly imbued with Decarabian’s power.
Jiang Yubai caught the Wind Spirit and stroked its head comfortingly. “It’s okay. I’m fine for now. You should leave quickly before he finds you.”
“Guji guji!”
“Don’t worry, I’m really okay.”
“Guji!!”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Okay.”
The System sat on Jiang Yubai’s shoulder, watching the two of them interact. A string of question marks popped up over its head.
Host, can you understand what it’s saying now?
No.
System: … Then why have you been chatting with it for so long? It turned out to be a classic case of “replying without reading.”
The Wind Spirit eventually grew quiet, staring at him for a moment. Jiang Yubai smiled and scratched under its chin, only to get bitten in return. The spirit was frustrated. Sensing someone approaching, it let out a flurry of chirps—not caring if he understood—and vanished into the wind.
A moment later, the door opened. A woman in a long white dress entered. Jiang Yubai’s eyes lit up. The woman had pale silver eyes and silver hair. Her skin was fair, and she carried an aura of cold detachment. She entered with a tray of food and scrutinized him coldly. When her gaze landed on Jiang Yubai’s face, she froze for a moment, and then a flash of loathing appeared in her eyes.
Jiang Yubai raised an eyebrow at the reaction. “Excuse me, beautiful lady, is that for me?”
The silver-haired girl gave a cold snort and slammed the tray down.
Jiang Yubai glanced at the food and smiled. “May I ask for your name?”
“I’m telling you, he is mine!” Amos said coldly. Before Jiang Yubai could react, she finished her warning, turned on her heel, and slammed the door behind her.
Jiang Yubai: ?
He and the System looked at each other in confusion.
Outside, Amos clenched her fists. Recalling the youth’s face, she bit her lip. Upon returning today, she had heard the soldiers at the tower discussing how the King had carried a human back in his arms. They said they had never seen the King hold a human like that. It was agonizing for her to hear.
She had loved the Demon God for a long time and stayed by his side for that reason. Before she could even get close to him, was he being snatched away by a stranger? So, when she heard Decarabian wanted someone to deliver food to that room, she volunteered. She wanted to see exactly what kind of woman it was.
But she didn’t expect… it was a man.
Amos had to admit he was more beautiful than she was. He possessed a charm that women lacked; both his aura and his features were hypnotic. Worse, when he smiled, she had nearly been bewitched into telling him her name.
She walked expressionlessly through the long corridors of the tower, climbed the stairs, and her expression softened as she reached Decarabian’s door. Her cold eyes overflowed with love for the slave-master as she pushed the door open.
Even if he was her former enemy… Amos gazed with longing at the man on the throne, her voice turning soft. “King…”
Decarabian rested his unshaven chin on his hand. He glanced at her indifferently without any emotional ripple. “Is he awake?”
Amos paused. Listening to the howling wind, the light in her eyes dimmed. “Yes.”
How many years had it been? How many years had she followed in the footsteps of this monarch? She could no longer remember. No matter how much longing or passion she put into her gaze or her words, the God-King remained deaf to it. He could not understand the softness of humans, nor did he care for her feelings.
The God of Storms had no heart.
He spoke of loving his people, yet what surrounded them was always a wind as sharp as a blade. The King of the High Tower looked down with disdain, leisurely admiring his subjects who were bent double by the wind. He mistook their struggle for obedience and respect. After so many years of self-deception, Amos realized she finally had to face reality.
Jiang Yubai held the tray of food, giving the Wind Spirit a bite for every bite he took. After the silver-haired girl left, the spirit had returned. It had likely hidden because it sensed someone.
I have to say, the food isn’t bad.
System: … Host, I want to eat too.
Seeing the two of them eat so happily made the System feel like an outsider! It was the one who was there first!
Jiang Yubai tore off a small piece of meat and held it to his shoulder. The Wind Spirit blinked in confusion. Did I see that right? It just vanished? The spirit tilted its head, bewildered.
Alright, you can just have a taste. There are people around; don’t get caught.
So fragrant! The System squinted its eyes in bliss on Jiang Yubai’s shoulder. Okay, Host, leave me a little bit. I’ll eat it after he leaves. Wait, he’s not human, he shouldn’t be that smart… but it’s better to be careful.
Glutton.
The System looked hurt and incredulous. How can you call me a glutton and not the Wind Spirit? If I’m not mistaken, he’s just a wisp of wind; he doesn’t even need to eat! Host, you’ve changed! You have a new love and forgotten your old companion!
Jiang Yubai said leisurely: The Wind Spirit is cuter than you.
System: Heartbroken.jpg
He brings me food and wants to save me. Can you?
The System felt thoroughly mocked and its glow dimmed.
After eating his fill, Jiang Yubai heartlessly curled up with the Wind Spirit and lay down. He pulled up the covers and closed his eyes. Ah, this is the life. Sleep when full, eat when awake. No work, and someone to warm the bed. Or rather, he had a living plushie to cuddle with.
Satisfied, Jiang Yubai rubbed his face against the Wind Spirit’s head and closed his eyes. It had been a long time since he had slept this peacefully. In the apocalyptic world, he could never rest properly; he was severely sleep-deprived and physically exhausted. He only survived through sheer willpower.
The Wind Spirit smelled faintly sweet—a very light, non-intrusive scent. He hadn’t noticed it before. Jiang Yubai couldn’t identify what it was. Soon, his thoughts faded as his consciousness drifted into darkness.
Normally, Jiang Yubai wouldn’t let himself fall into such a deep sleep in a dangerous world. But for some reason, he felt that with the System and the Wind Spirit around, he would be safe. The System would wake him if there was danger, but the Wind Spirit… Jiang Yubai found the source of that safety mysterious.
As Jiang Yubai’s breathing stabilized, the Wind Spirit realized he was asleep. It blinked and huddled quietly by his pillow. A faint cyan glow enveloped Jiang Yubai, slowly healing the cuts caused by the gale. His furrowed brows relaxed as he fell into a deeper dream.
The System watched silently as the spirit healed its host and then affectionately rubbed its face against his. It stopped talking. Fine, I admit I’m useless.
The System sadly closed its eyes and tried to contact the Main God again.
Suddenly, the door opened. The Wind Spirit vanished into the wind instantly. Decarabian entered the room and approached the bed. His dark eyes stared at the human who was sleeping so soundly.
