How To Save Yourself From Being Targeted By The Anemo Archon In Genshin Impact? - Chapter 13
Jiang Yubai looked up and found a man standing silently behind them. He had no idea how long the man had been watching; he had not sensed a thing.
The man stood tall in white robes, though his exposed arms were black. Jiang Yubai subtly noted the skin. Golden patterns flowed slowly across the dark surface, making it clear he was not human.
A Demon God?
The Wind Spirit acted as if facing a mortal enemy, its feathers bristling as it flew in front of them. Jiang Yubai glanced at the long haired man whose face was partially hidden beneath a white hood, then reached out and snatched the Wind Spirit back.
Freier also noticed the man’s unusual nature. He remained silent, standing nervously beside Jiang Yubai. The Wind Spirit struggled in Jiang’s grip, desperate to get out. Jiang Yubai held on tight. Does this little thing not know its own weight?
This man looked incredibly powerful. However, given that the Demon God had just warned them of danger, he did not seem to harbor ill intent. Jiang Yubai felt no murderous aura from him. Likely, they had simply trespassed into his territory, and he had come to warn them.
Yet the Wind Spirit was filled with hostility. Jiang Yubai worried this might provoke the man. He felt the man’s gaze sweep over the struggling spirit and settle on him. Is it just me, or is he staring a bit too long?
Suddenly, Jiang Yubai’s hand went empty. The Wind Spirit vanished into thin air and lunged toward the silent man with a whistle of wind.
Damn it! Are you crazy? Rushing to your death!
In a reflex, Jiang Yubai lunged forward to intercept the spirit.
It happened in an instant. The Wind Spirit was imprisoned within a barrier shimmering with golden light. Because Jiang Yubai’s original trajectory was to catch the spirit, he now crashed directly into the man.
“…”
Jiang Yubai went stiff. Nothing was more awkward than this; his face slammed into the man’s chest. It felt like hitting a solid rock, and the impact sent a jolt of pain through his face.
At such close range, he finally saw the man’s face clearly. He was extraordinarily handsome. Meeting those majestic, glowing golden eyes, Jiang Yubai felt as if he were being watched by a fierce predator. It felt like a suppression of bloodlines. He stood frozen, allowing the Demon God to scrutinize him.
“Guji!”
The Wind Spirit anxiously slammed its body against the stone prison. Hearing the sound, Jiang Yubai finally regained control of his body and quickly stepped back. “Sorry, I did not mean to.”
“We were just admiring the scenery. I am sorry for disturbing you. Could you let him go?”
Unsure of the Demon God’s temperament, Jiang Yubai spoke in a negotiating tone. To prevent a sudden attack, he secretly gripped the gun hidden under his clothes.
Unexpectedly, he received a response. The Demon God’s voice was remarkably steady, providing an inexplicable sense of security. “It is no matter.”
“This place is filled with warring gods; it is not a good place for sightseeing. You should leave as soon as possible.”
The voice was calm and unhurried. Yet, Jiang Yubai felt the man was constantly evaluating him.
“My name is Morax, the God of Stone who guards this region. I see that the stone has no record of your existence. You do not seem to be of this world.”
Jiang Yubai: !
AHHH! Host! Host! Why does he know?!
The system screamed. Normally, when they brought the Host into a world, they integrated perfectly. Residents of the world should never be able to detect the Host as an outsider. Yet this man knew!
The system instinctively sensed a crisis. This world was too strange. Ever since they arrived, its functions had been limited, and it was disconnected from the Main God. This was a first in its entire career.
As if sensing Jiang Yubai’s tension, Morax looked up slightly, exposing his face to the sunlight. His golden eyes shone even more brilliantly. “There is no need for tension. I harbor no ill will.”
Jiang Yubai nodded, choosing to believe him. If the man wanted to kill him, there was no need for such a conversation. Even so, he did not fully lower his guard.
Morax sighed softly. “If you are uneasy, I can enter a contract with you. I can ensure your safety whenever you walk within the borders of Liyue.”
Jiang Yubai was puzzled. “A contract?”
“Yes. As the God of Contracts, any words confirmed by both parties cannot be broken. If they are, the penalty for breaking a promise shall follow.”
God of Contracts? And he talks so formally.
Jiang Yubai felt it was strange. This world’s gods were nothing like what he knew. Whether it was the God of Storms or this God of Contracts, they were deities he had never heard of. Still, it did not seem like a bad idea.
System, this should be okay, right?
Uh, maybe. The system sounded extremely uncertain. In a normal world, it would tell the Host there were no consequences. Even if someone cursed the Host, it would not matter once they left. But this world…
The system thought it might be better not to sign. Host
Before it could finish, Jiang Yubai said decisively, “Fine, I will sign.”
The system silently swallowed its warning. What did you say?
Nothing, nothing.
“Thus, the contract is established.” A stone seal briefly appeared in Morax’s eyes, vanishing before Jiang Yubai could get a good look.
“Can you let him go now?” Jiang Yubai pointed to the Wind Spirit, which was still banging against the stone cage.
Morax nodded. The next moment, the prison crumbled.
“Ji!” The furious Wind Spirit dived into Jiang Yubai’s chest, its small eyes wide as it chirped aggressively at Morax like a dog protecting its food.
Morax met the spirit’s hostile gaze. The spirit stood with its hands on its hips, glaring fiercely. A spirit born of the Thousand Winds. With one look, Morax saw the faint power of faith within it. It seemed change was coming to Mondstadt, that land shrouded in blizzards.
In an era of warring gods, the birth of a new god was not surprising. Ever since the deity atop the island in the sky issued the oracle, many aimed for final victory to become one of the Seven. Thus, the gods slaughtered each other.
Logically, Mondstadt was not his concern, but Morax looked at Jiang Yubai and the young boy, falling into thought.
Jiang Yubai ignored Morax. He grabbed the Wind Spirit by its head feathers and held it up, looking at it in surprise. “What is wrong with you today? Did you eat a bomb? You are like a bristling cat.” He looked at the silent Morax and then back at the chirping spirit. “He does not mean any harm. Don’t be so hostile.”
“Guji!” The spirit’s eyes widened.
“Guji ji!” It sounded like it was swearing.
After having its say, the spirit hugged the youth’s hand and rubbed its face against it, then shot a fierce look at Morax. Morax looked thoughtful.
“The day is getting late. We need to get back before the wind wall opens,” Jiang Yubai said softly, looking at the sunset. He turned to the tall, handsome Demon God and said politely, “We are leaving now.”
A flash of light crossed Morax’s eyes. “Until we meet again by fate.”
“Ji.” The Wind Spirit bit Jiang’s finger lightly, clearly unhappy that he was speaking to Morax.
Jiang Yubai squinted dangerously at the spirit. Suddenly, he let out a mischievous grin and pinched its bottom.
The Wind Spirit was horrified. “Guji!”
“Hmph. Let’s see if you dare bite again. One bite means one pinch,” Jiang Yubai said with a demonic smile. The spirit immediately let go, covering its rear and swallowing hard.
“Freier, we have to go. Are you having second thoughts about going back?”
Freier glanced cautiously at the Demon God and said to Jiang Yubai, “It would be a lie to say I do not, but when I think of the people like me still inside the wind wall, the feeling disappears.” Having seen the outside, the boy’s gaze was firmer. “I want to bring everyone out! To see this beautiful world.”
Jiang Yubai smiled and patted the Wind Spirit, signaling it to take them back.
“Wait,” Morax said.
Jiang Yubai turned in confusion. “You have not yet told me your name.”
“Jiang Yubai.”
The Wind Spirit impatiently whisked Jiang Yubai and Freier away, vanishing from Morax’s sight. Morax stood there for a long time, looking toward Mondstadt in the north. He hoped the power he had left on the youth would never be triggered. He turned, his long hair trailing in a golden arc, and vanished into the wilderness.
On the way back, the trio ran into a problem. They had been discovered.
Jiang Yubai stuffed the flailing Wind Spirit into Freier’s arms, giving it a warning look. The spirit settled down, hiding in Freier’s pocket.
It is over! the system wailed.
A dense crowd of Gale Army soldiers stood at the entrance to the wind wall. The fat Arnold looked as if he had been waiting specifically for them. As soon as the two appeared, they were surrounded.
“I have been waiting for you.” Arnold’s eyes licked across Jiang Yubai’s body with a sickening gaze, looking as if the youth had already fallen into his hands.
Ever since his previous humiliation, he had sent people to watch them. Now, he finally had his chance. These two had actually ignored the authority of the God of Storms and left the wind wall. He had joyfully reported this to Decarabian. As expected, the God granted him the army to make the arrest.
Once he had the beauty, he would torture him for making him look foolish! Arnold’s breathing quickened as he imagined pinning the youth down. He pointed arrogantly at Jiang Yubai. “Seize him!”
The army leveled their weapons at the two in the center. Jiang Yubai shielded the boy behind him, and for a moment, the crowd could not get a grip on him.
“Tsk.” Irritation flared in Jiang Yubai’s brow.
Suddenly, he spotted Decarabian appearing beside Arnold. Jiang Yubai went silent. He immediately commanded, “Take Freier and get out of here!”
This was clearly directed at the Wind Spirit.
“Brother Jiang!” Freier cried in shock.
“Ji.”
“Obey me!”
“Guji!”
Jiang Yubai turned his head sharply, staring coldly at the stubborn spirit peeking out of the pocket. The Wind Spirit froze. Reluctantly, it whipped up a gale, grabbing Freier just as he reached out for Jiang Yubai, and vanished from the battlefield.
It was not that Jiang Yubai did not want to leave; he could not. He felt Decarabian’s gaze fixated on him the moment he appeared. The God’s target was him. If he tried to escape with them, Decarabian would likely catch all of them. The best solution was to stay behind.
Jiang Yubai took a deep breath. Once Freier was gone, he stopped resisting. He was immediately pinned by the swarming soldiers, forced to his knees.
Arnold was also startled by Decarabian’s appearance. He quickly put on a flattering smile. “My Lord, why are you here?”
His eyes fell on the captured Jiang Yubai, greed and excitement flashing across his face as he stared at the youth’s exquisite profile. He turned to the silent Decarabian and said, “This is the person who injured the army and left the wind wall without permission. Now that he is captured, King, I will punish him thoroughly!”
Decarabian said nothing.
Seeing this, Arnold could not wait. “Drag him over!”
Jiang Yubai’s arms were pinned behind him, and he was pushed in front of Arnold. Arnold’s fat hand reached out toward Jiang Yubai’s face, his eyes full of obsession. “You fell into my hands after all. Tonight, I will take very good care of you”
