How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 6
How could one describe these eyes?
Though dark and devoid of light, they could captivate the soul; though seemingly calm and unruffled, they instilled fear and trepidation.
With eyes closed, he appeared as a delicate, sickly beauty; with eyes open, he resembled an aloof and indifferent deity looking down upon the world.
She found herself instinctively afraid, but then remembered that she was supposed to be the master here. Straightening her back subtly, she was about to introduce herself when flames suddenly erupted around her, closing in aggressively.
Damn! He still wanted to kill her!
She quickly formed a hand seal, only to realize that the flames had halted right before her eyes, unable to advance any further.
At some point, Xiao Hei had already risen to his feet. Tall and graceful, his ink-black hair cascaded to the ground, strands floating amidst the fiery aura, tinged with faint golden light. Standing barefoot in the flames, he looked like a god descended upon the mortal realm.
Suddenly, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. He tilted his head slightly and pressed his right hand against his chest.
Why did it hurt?
He lifted his gaze to the woman on the bed. The raging flames enveloped her, yet dared not draw any closer. She seemed intrigued by the fire, occasionally reaching out to test it. Where her fingers touched, the flames lost their heat, dancing and leaping joyfully around her.
He actually couldn’t harm her.
A glint of curiosity flashed in his eyes.
Who was she?
Judging by her aura, she should be a cultivator.
The moment the word “cultivator” surfaced in his mind, an inexplicable wave of intense loathing surged within him. His spiritual power exploded instantaneously, and flames swept through the entire courtyard in the blink of an eye!
Xu Xingxing, who had just been marveling at how fun the fire was, was jolted by the tsunami-like wave of heat around her. Hastily, she formed another hand seal, summoning a torrential downpour that barely managed to contain the flames from spreading further.
By the time she had completely extinguished the fire and went to look for the instigator, he had already vanished without a trace.
When Fang Zhiming and the other two returned together, they were met with the sight of their home utterly devastated. The roof was burnt away, the walls had collapsed, and if not for Xu Xingxing sitting dejectedly at the entrance, they wouldn’t have recognized it as their dwelling.
“Did your dog do this?” Yue Baiyin was the first to ask.
Xu Xingxing nodded gloomily.
“Hahaha! Truly worthy of a top-grade spirit beast!” Yue Baiyin clapped her on the shoulder enthusiastically. “Xing’er, you should be secretly thrilled!”
“What’s there to be thrilled about when our home is gone?” she retorted, then looked up and saw… Jin Chengwu?
“Who are you?”
Yue Baiyin now looked refreshed, his hair neatly tied up, his beard freshly shaved. Though his complexion was slightly tanned, he carried an air of dashing vigor.
“Who else? Your master, don’t you recognize me?”
He plopped down on the ground, about to pick his nose out of habit, but noticed his nails had been trimmed. Sighing in resignation, he dropped his hand, though his spirits lifted again almost immediately. “Once a beast contract is formed, it cannot be broken unless one of you dies. The higher the grade of the spirit beast, the easier it is for the human to cultivate their techniques. A top-grade spirit beast like this Hound of Calamity would normally disdain forming a contract with a human. If we hadn’t stumbled upon him severely injured, even a Mahayana-stage cultivator wouldn’t be able to tame him. Apprentice, look at the spectacle he caused just after waking up today, this dog is likely among the elite even among top-grade spirit beasts. Could he be a supreme-grade spirit beast? You’ve really hit the jackpot! What a lucky encounter!”
“Stop celebrating already. Where are we going to stay tonight?” Fang Zhiming lamented, his face grim. “All the food I brought got burned up.”
“This Spirit Beast Mountain is vast and boundless, do you really think you’ll lack for food or shelter?” Yue Baiyin stood up. “Come on! I’ve got several hideouts in the forest.”
Hideouts?
Xu Xingxing quickly shook her head. “The Beast Taming Sect is large enough, there are other rooms. Let’s make do for today and buy new bedding tomorrow.”
Fang Zhiming nodded and began tidying up when he suddenly remembered something. “What about Xiao Hei? How do we find him?”
“No need to search,” Tao Fuzhong said. “Xing’er naturally knows.”
Ah, she truly did. At first, she had tried to look for him, only to discover that whenever she approached, he would leave before she arrived. After several hours of this cat-and-mouse game, she was physically and mentally exhausted and decided to let him be.
Even dogs need alone time, she understood that.
When they mentioned him, she closed her eyes again to sense his current location and was startled to find that his position hadn’t changed at all in the past two hours!
A sense of alarm shot through Xu Xingxing, what if he had collapsed?
She immediately left the three of them behind and dashed toward the dense forest.
Xiao Hei lay among the fallen leaves, completely drained of strength. Every part of his body ached, and his head throbbed with a particularly sharp pain.
Why couldn’t he remember anything?
Why did he harbor such hatred for cultivators? Why did his heart feel as though it were being squeezed, suffocating him whenever he tried to harm that woman? And…
Who was he?
A Huo Dou?
No.
This wasn’t his body, he could sense it. But why did his soul fit so perfectly into this beastly form?
And why, despite repeated attempts, couldn’t he break free?
His head felt as if it were splitting open, and the world spun around him. Even as a smear of crimson obscured his vision, he didn’t stop thinking. He tormented himself with relentless thoughts, yet still, he found no answers.
Suddenly, he sensed the woman approaching again, and an overwhelming irritation surged within him. Struggling to his feet, he took a few steps only to come face to face with Xu Xingxing, who was waiting ahead.
It turned out she had pretended to approach from the north and, the moment he noticed, had teleported to the south instead.
He had been careless, allowing her to outmaneuver him.
“What happened to your eyes?” Xu Xingxing exclaimed in shock.
Xiao Hei’s eyes were now blood-red, with fresh blood trickling from them, making him look like a demon clawing its way out of hell, a sight that struck fear into anyone who saw him.
Anyone who saw him in this state would have fled in terror.
But Xu Xingxing suddenly burst into tears. She was worried and frightened, but also felt wronged and sad. The shock of her house burning down earlier that day now amplified all these emotions.
This was the first spirit beast she had ever saved, her life-bound spirit beast. To form a contract with him, she had expended half of her spiritual power. Yet, the moment he opened his eyes, he had tried to kill her.
She didn’t understand, what had she done wrong? Why did he despise her so much? Why was he so determined to escape, even while severely injured?
The more she thought about it, the more unjust it felt. Tears streamed down her face like pearls, impossible to wipe away.
But he looked so much like Uncle Hei, she couldn’t just let him die. Choking back sobs, she pleaded, “Please don’t run away, okay? If you hate me, I’ll keep my distance. But right now, you need treatment. Otherwise, the half of my spiritual power I used will have been wasted. Once you’re healed, I promise I’ll let you go. Please, let me help you now, okay? Your eyes are bleeding…”
An overwhelming wave of sorrow surged in Xiao Hei’s heart, threatening to drown him.
This was the woman’s emotion. Realizing this, Xiao Hei felt dazed: Why was she so sad? Was it because of him?
Because he had avoided her? Or because of his injuries?
A strange feeling welled up in his heart, his own emotion, unfamiliar and unsettling, causing him to freeze for a moment.
The woman was still crying. He felt annoyed, but without even realizing it, his earlier aversion seemed to have quietly faded away.
His vision blurred, and in the next moment, he knew nothing.
Xu Xingxing continued channeling spiritual energy until midnight before finally stopping. In truth, she could have done it while asleep, though the process would have been slower. It was her first time seeing someone bleed from their eyes, and she couldn’t help feeling a bit panicked.
Reflecting on the day’s events, she felt she had the makings of a tragic romance novel’s female lead.
No matter how many times the dog treats me badly, I’ll treat him like my first love.
And this was, quite literally, a dog of a man…
Love? What love?! She shuddered involuntarily and quickly shook off the unsettling thought.
Muttering a few curses under her breath, she reminded herself that she was doing all this for Uncle Hei. If it were any other spirit beast, would she still be this devoted…?
Chanting mission first silently a few times, she lay down on the recliner she had just moved in and prepared to sleep. Still uneasy, she tugged a corner of his sleeve into her hand and drifted off peacefully.
The next day, when she woke, she found herself staring into those pitch-black eyes again.
After two consecutive days of this, her heart truly couldn’t take it anymore. She even started missing the days when he was severely injured.
Please, your true form is a dog, can’t you stop acting human all the time?
He seemed to have been awake for a while, leaning against the headboard with a relatively calm demeanor. He didn’t speak when he saw she was awake, but his gaze shifted to the corner of his sleeve clutched in her hand.
Xu Xingxing quickly released it and smoothed out the fabric for him.
After watching her finish, Xiao Hei stood and headed outside. Xu Xingxing hurriedly asked, “Where are you going?”
He turned to look at her but didn’t answer. Under his intense stare, she felt a chill and forced a smile. “Come back soon.”
Before the words had fully left her mouth, he had already vanished.
I can’t chase after him, I really can’t. Xu Xingxing felt as though she had aged years in an instant, a weary sense of exhaustion washing over her, like that of raising a rebellious child.
By evening, she went into the forest to look for him. This time, she found him without much effort. But as soon as she sat down and started chattering, he stood up and left. Sensing his location with a heavy heart, she realized he was heading toward the Beast Taming Sect.
