How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 19
Seeing Xiao Hei’s expression, it didn’t seem like he was joking. For a moment, she felt awkward.
“I do prefer sleeping alone…” But aren’t you afraid of the dark?!
“Then why did you follow me?”
????????
So now I’m the bitch who crawled into bed??
“Aren’t you afraid of the dark?”
Xiao Hei froze for a moment, then sneered coldly, “Who told you that?”
You did, dude! You!
She was a little annoyed and couldn’t be bothered to argue with him anymore. She turned and went out the door, heading right back to her room to sleep.
Suit yourself! Don’t blame me if you can’t sleep!
She was truly exhausted. Xu Xingxing lay down on the bed and fell asleep in no time.
…
After what felt like an unknown amount of time, she felt an intense chill all over her body in her sleep. Groggily, she opened her eyes and saw the thatched roof above her.
? Where is this?
“Immortal Lord, you’re awake. You must have been too tired, you fell asleep while talking earlier,” a middle-aged woman said as she approached the bed.
Xu Xingxing felt dazed, her mind a muddled mess, unable to remember anything. “Who are you?”
“Have you forgotten? You came to our village to investigate the whereabouts of the demonic creature and came inside for some tea.”
Oh, right, she remembered now. She had come to a village outside Qingzhou with Xiao Hei… Wait, where was Xiao Hei?
“Where is the man who came with me?”
“A man?”
The middle-aged woman covered her mouth and chuckled lightly. “What are you talking about, Immortal Lord? You came here alone.”
“Alone?”
Was that right? She seemed to remember… But as she tried hard to recall, her head began to ache.
“Yes, how could you have forgotten? When my son opened the door, you were the only one outside.”
Son?
Right, the one who had opened the door for her seemed to be a young child, but the one who had greeted her was a middle-aged man…
Her head hurt so much. What was going on?
“Where is that man?” Xu Xingxing rubbed her temples vigorously.
“A man?”
The middle-aged woman let out an “oh” and said, “You must mean my husband. He’s already gone to bed and asked me to take care of you.”
No, that wasn’t right.
“Aren’t you seriously ill?” In her dazed state, she seemed to have grasped a loose thread of the tangled mess.
“Yes,” the middle-aged woman coughed twice, “but it’s nothing serious. How could I neglect you, Immortal Lord?”
“Then,”
Xu Xingxing looked up at her, enunciating each word clearly, “where is the man who came with me?”
“You-”
Her spiritual power surged outward, and ice, like vines, began to crawl up from the middle-aged woman’s feet. “So, are you the ice-wielding, human-devouring demon?”
“Or the ghost casting illusions?”
The middle-aged woman stared fixedly at Xu Xingxing. In an instant, she opened her mouth wide and let out a piercing scream. Blood gushed from her mouth, drenching her clothes and pooling on the floor. Her skin peeled away, her face turned bluish, her eyeballs fell out, and two bloody holes gaped on her ghastly pale face.
As the sharp scream echoed, the solid ice covering the female ghost shattered completely. With a furious roar, she lunged at Xu Xingxing!
Xu Xingxing teleported to the side. There was no time to be afraid now. She immediately summoned her sword and struck at the female ghost.
Meanwhile, Xiao Hei, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly sensed spiritual energy fluctuations from the next room. The temperature around him dropped at an alarming rate, and in an instant, a thin layer of ice had crept up the wall beside him.
His breath hitched. He leaped off the bed and rushed to the neighboring room. Before he could even touch the door, he heard a loud thud, followed by a low, frustrated curse from inside:
“What the hell did I do to deserve this…”
Xiao Hei outside the door: “…”
Xu Xingxing rubbed her sore shoulder and looked around at the room, frozen solid from her spiritual energy leaking out in her dream. Her headache only grew worse.
What the hell kind of nightmare was that? It felt way too damn real.
She lifted her hand to dispel the icy chill and sat on the floor for a while longer to recover before slowly getting up and walking to the window, opening it.
A gentle breeze drifted into the room, gradually dissipating the cold sweat on her body. Propping her face in her hands, she gazed out at the courtyard, where the lanterns along the corridor cast a soft, warm glow. Xu Xingxing sighed to herself:
No way I’m sleeping tonight…
Ah, what time is it anyway?
Suddenly, a figure appeared before her, blocking the faint yellow light ahead. Xu Xingxing’s recently calmed heartbeat instantly skyrocketed. Instinctively, she used her psychic power to form an ice blade in the air and hurled it at the figure.
The figure tilted its head slightly, and the ice blade flew past its ear, stirring a strand of fine hair. It seemed to let out a soft chuckle:
“Scared like this?”
Realizing it was Xiao Hei, Xu Xingxing: “…”
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” Xu Xingxing snapped irritably.
“Naturally, I was woken up by the sound of someone falling out of bed,” Xiao Hei’s voice was full of mockery. “What’s wrong? Can’t even sleep without me?”
If you hadn’t brought that up, I would’ve almost forgotten the anger I felt before falling asleep!
Compounded by the nightmare, Xu Xingxing’s mood grew even more foul: “Mind your own business.”
With a sharp thwack, she slammed the window shut.
Today really is unlucky!
She lay back down on the bed, closed her eyes, and tried to coax herself to sleep.
Starting from counting one sheep, she went all the way to one thousand three hundred and twenty-six dumplings, but her eyes only grew wider and her mind more alert.
So annoying, why is it so annoying!
How come he’s perfectly fine while I can’t sleep?? She had never suffered from insomnia before!!
She was the one who painstakingly nursed his injuries, and she was the one kind enough to be his roommate.
And now, just because he heard her perfunctorily talking to others, he casually lets her sleep alone?
Screw that!
In a flash, she teleported to the window and flung it open again. For some reason, he was still there. He immediately turned to look at her, still wearing that infuriating expression, as if he’d seen something amusing. A hint of laughter lurked in his eyes as he asked knowingly, “Still not asleep? How about I-”
She strode out the door, walked up to him, confidently wrapped her arms around his, and tilted her head back, declaring, “Fine! What a loyal spirit beast you are!”
Without waiting for his reaction, she dragged him into the room and shoved him onto the bed.
Once seated on the bed, Xiao Hei finally processed what had happened, a flicker of panic rising within him. Forcing calm into his voice, he said, “There are extra bedding materials in the next room-”
“What do we need bedding for?”
Xu Xingxing pushed him down onto the bed with a forceful shove, curling her lips into a smirk as she mimicked his usual expression. “No one needs to sleep on the floor tonight.”
For the first time, Xiao Hei found himself looking up at someone from this angle. The woman above him was saying things that stirred his imagination. Her usually lively eyes now carried a hint of enchantment, breathtakingly beautiful. His mind went completely blank, the surrounding sounds fading away. As he watched her red lips drawing closer, all he could hear was the thunderous beating of his own heart.
Closer… What was he doing? Why wasn’t he pushing her away? Why did his entire body feel stiff, his breath deliberately held?
Suddenly, the woman burst into laughter, then collapsed beside him.
She carefully pulled the quilt up to her neck, leaving only her head exposed, and grinned at him, saying:
“As expected of my bonded spirit beast, you even know how to care for your master. Let’s sleep together tonight, alright?”
After a pause, she pretended to be considerate again. “There’s only this one blanket, are you cold? Let’s share it.”
Then, as if suddenly realizing something, she added, “Oh right, my Xiao Hei is a fire-attribute spirit beast, so of course you’re not afraid of the cold. Alright then, good night.”
Before Xiao Hei could respond, Xu Xingxing had already closed her eyes. He watched the faint smile lingering at the corners of her lips and knew she was deliberately teasing him, yet for some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to be angry. Instead, a long-suppressed peculiar feeling swelled in his chest.
He had never understood what it was, but now, with her lying beside him, her warmth seeped through the blanket and touched the skin of his arm, a gentle, soothing heat that felt exactly like the strange sensation in his chest.
He lay there watching her, motionless, not even bothering to turn over, just gazing at her profile. He had no idea how much time had passed when a sudden knock on the door jolted him awake. Only then did he realize that dawn had already broken.
“Senior Sister! Time to get up!”
Qi Danxuan’s voice came from outside the door. “Fang Zhiming and the others left early and are already back, having breakfast. I made it myself, would you like to try some?”
“Senior Sister? Still asleep? I’m coming in, okay?”
“Wait!”
Xu Xingxing had no choice but to wake up. “Xuanxuan! I’m not dressed! Let me put on some clothes and come out, alright?”
Xiao Hei watched her leisurely from the side, inexplicably pleased by her flustered state.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you outside, Senior Sister.”
“Enjoying my misery, are you?” Xu Xingxing flung the blanket over Xiao Hei’s face, got up, and walked to the door. She opened it just enough to slip out sideways, then quickly closed it behind her. Turning to a puzzled Qi Danxuan, she beamed.
“Let’s go, Xuanxuan.”
When they reached the main hall, they saw Fang Zhiming eating while Qin Feng and Lin Yue sat nearby, not touching their food but occasionally sipping tea.
“Haven’t you reached the Golden Core stage too? Why haven’t you started fasting?” Qin Feng asked Fang Zhiming with a look of disdain.
“I do as I please. What’s it to you?”
Noticing Xu Xingxing outside the door, Lin Yue stood up and greeted her shyly. “Senior Sister is here.”
Qin Feng hurried out to meet her, escorting her to a seat and handing her chopsticks. “Senior Sister, try this dish. Junior Sister Danxuan made it herself. Fang Zhiming has been eyeing it, but I managed to save some for you.”
“If Senior Brother Fang wants to eat, he can. There’s more in the kitchen. Senior Sister, try it and tell us what you think!” Qi Danxuan chimed in.
Xu Xingxing was used to Qin Feng’s attentiveness and didn’t refuse. Just as she was about to taste the dish, her chopsticks suddenly swerved mid-air and ended up in someone else’s hand.
It was Xiao Hei.
Xu Xingxing: ???
He smoothly took a seat beside her, picked up a bite of the dish, and ate it calmly. “Not bad.”
“Couldn’t you get your own chopsticks?” Xu Xingxing thought he was being unusually childish today.
“What? After how tired I was last night, can’t I have a bite first?” Xiao Hei raised an eyebrow slightly, his eyes brimming with amusement.
“Tired, my foot!”
“How could I not be tired? Just when I finally got to rest, you had a nightmare and made me-”
“Thank you so much, big brother! Please, have some more!” Xu Xingxing quickly cut him off, already anticipating what he was about to say, and even handed him another steamed bun.
Fang Zhiming watched them with a grin as wide as an auntie’s, looking as if he were just short of grabbing a handful of melon seeds to crack open.
Xu Xingxing took a fierce bite of her bun and demanded, “So, what’s the progress?”
“I’ll explain,” Qin Feng said, pulling his gaze away from Xiao Hei. “Yesterday, the three of us did find traces of a formation at the back mountain, but after searching the entire area, we came up empty-handed. Later, using a magical tool, we followed a rat’s burrow and discovered a cave dwelling right at the mountain’s core. We informed Senior Qi, and he sent people with us to blast the cave open. Inside, we found nothing but frozen, shredded flesh and scattered remains. It seems this must have been the nest of some demonic creature.”
