How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 16
The alarm from the Hundred Beasts Tome suddenly rang out. Xu Xingxing, who had been leisurely idle for quite some time, abruptly straightened up and grabbed Fang Zhiming’s sleeve. “I’m going too!”
Fang Zhiming naturally agreed.
And so, the two returned to their respective rooms to pack their things.
Xu Xingxing had already sent a message to Xiao Hei beforehand. After finishing her preparations and stepping outside to wait, she saw two people already standing in the courtyard, one man and one woman, both at the Golden Core stage.
As soon as the man spotted Xu Xingxing, he hurried forward, bowing first with great enthusiasm. “You must be Senior Sister Xu, right? I am Qin Feng, a disciple of Elder Xue. Your reputation precedes you, Senior Sister. Seeing you in person today, your elegance truly outshines the spring blossoms, captivating at first sight, making it hard to restrain my-”
“Restrain your ass!” Fang Zhiming smacked Qin Feng on the head. “What are you, a peacock? Strutting around everywhere?”
Qin Feng clutched his head and reached for his sword. “Fang Zhiming, don’t think being the sect leader’s disciple gives you the right to boss me around! For this mission, my master said I’m in charge!”
“That’s just Elder Xue tricking you into going. If it weren’t for your decent skills, do you think you’d even be considered?” Fang Zhiming lifted his chin slightly. “Well? Want to take it up with the sect leader? Let me remind you, the situation is urgent. If you delay things, you won’t be able to bear the consequences!”
“If you weren’t so incompetent, why would the sect leader send me along-”
Xu Xingxing quickly stepped between them. “Stop it! Arguing before we’ve even set out? How about neither of you goes, and I’ll handle it myself?”
“Senior Sister is going too?” Qin Feng’s furious expression instantly brightened like the morning sun. “Then of course I’ll listen to whatever Senior Sister says!”
He shot a glare at Fang Zhiming.
Xu Xingxing forced an awkward smile. “But I lack experience and still need guidance from your Senior Brother Fang.”
Fang Zhiming also smiled. “I’ll naturally share everything I know with Senior Sister. As for some people, if they want to stay alive, they’d better rein it in.”
Just as Qin Feng was about to draw his sword again, Xu Xingxing quickly turned to the woman who had been standing quietly nearby, cutting short their childish squabble. “Fellow cultivator, may I ask your name?”
“M-Me?” The woman flinched in surprise at being addressed. “Senior Sister can just call me Lin Yue.”
“Lin Yue? Yueyue, I’ll call you Yueyue,” Xu Xingxing said with a friendly smile. “I’ve felt you look familiar all along. Have we met somewhere before?”
“I’m a disciple under Physician Gu Nuo, specializing in medical arts. We met before when you were recuperating there.” Lin Yue replied softly, her voice gentle and timid.
After receiving Xu Xingxing’s message, Xiao Hei hurried back. Seeing the group in the courtyard, he frowned slightly. Xu Xingxing went up to him and discreetly tugged his sleeve, at which his expression softened.
At first, he had resisted such small gestures and repeatedly tried to stop her, but she never changed her ways. Eventually, he grew accustomed to it.
Once Fang Zhiming saw that everyone had gathered, he announced, “Let’s go.” The five of them then sped off toward Qingzhou City.
…
I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve consumed. Three hundred? Or five hundred? All I know is they’re sour, hard to swallow, and utterly disgusting.
Why cultivate? Why seek advancement? Wouldn’t it be better to remain a speck of dust?
But then that deity said to me, “Then I’ll help you one more time.”
How I long to stand by his side, to be at his command. How I yearn to kneel at his feet, ready to serve.
But why was it so weak? Why, despite its desperate efforts to consume these foul, bloody remains, could it not even manage the simple transformation into human form?
That day, had it not hidden a fragment of itself within the village chief, it would have vanished from this world entirely.
At this thought, a sudden panic seized it. The cultivator by that deity’s side was so formidable, when would it ever be worthy enough to approach the god?
“Huh? What’s this thing?” A voice suddenly sounded from behind. Startled, it immediately began dispersing its viscous essence in secret.
“Seems like one of us, but its demonic aura is far too weak.”
“Even a fly’s worth of meat is still meat. We’ll take whatever we can absorb. Escaping the Ten Thousand Demon Cave cost us too much, we can’t feast on humans like we used to. We’ll have to make do with lesser demons.”
Its body lifted, drawn toward a certain direction, and in that moment, a thunderous roar seemed to echo in its ears.
Was this even possible?
Overjoyed, it turned and eagerly plunged into the gaping maw that opened before it.
Taking possession of the demon’s body was no difficult task. Having grown accustomed to the sour, astringent taste of human flesh, it found the foul demonic form surprisingly sweet and satisfying. Like a fish returned to water, it devoured every inch of the demon’s flesh and blood, finally claiming the demon’s skin as its own.
Straightening up, it felt, for the first time, a body that fit so perfectly. It couldn’t help but stretch lazily. Glancing at the terrified demon beside it, it spoke its first words since gaining a voice:
“The True Demon God has strayed into the mortal realm, lost his memories. Inform the demon race: rescue our master from peril without delay, time is of the essence!”
…
Blizzard raged, shrouding the world in darkness. The path ahead was obscured, visibility reduced to nothing.
The five of them had been flying on their swords but were forced to land and continue on foot upon reaching the border of Qingzhou due to the fierce snowstorm. The world was a vast expanse of white, with only their companions visible around them.
Qin Feng draped his cloak over Xu Xingxing, his expression full of concern. “Senior Sister, take care of yourself. Don’t catch a cold.”
The storm was relentless. Xu Xingxing removed the cloak and handed it to the slimmer Lin Yue beside her. “Yueyue, you seem unsteady. I don’t need this, you take it.”
Lin Yue hurriedly declined, waving her hands. “Senior Sister, you should keep it. I’m not cold.”
Qin Feng pulled another cloak from his pack. “It’s fine, Junior Sister Lin Yue. I have another one.”
As Lin Yue tried to refuse again, Fang Zhiming beside her forcefully draped the cloak over her shoulders. “You’ve just formed your Golden Core, your spiritual energy circulation isn’t as smooth as the others. If it’s given to you, just take it. Don’t push yourself.”
Qin Feng shook out the cloak and moved to place it on Xu Xingxing again.
She pressed his hand down. “I’ve already reached the Nascent Soul stage. This temperature doesn’t affect me in the slightest. Keep it for yourself.”
“I have more,” Qin Feng insisted, pushing it toward her again. “I brought several. I even packed a quilt.”
Suddenly, a hand as pale as snow reached out and took the cloak. Xiao Hei draped it over himself, raising an eyebrow slightly. “I’ll take it.”
“Me too!” Fang Zhiming reached out to snatch Qin Feng’s pack. “Just how much did you bring? Old Man Xue must have given you quite a few treasures, huh?”
“No! Let go! Release my Qiankun bag! I’ll fight back!”
Ignoring the commotion behind him, Xiao Hei took Xu Xingxing’s hand and led her forward.
The moment his hand touched hers, an unusually scorching heat spread through her entire body. Surprised, she looked up and found him gazing back at her.
His snow-dusted brows and eyes brimmed with self-satisfaction, the crimson hue of his lips resembling blooming plum blossoms in the snowy weather. A faint smile lifted the corners of his mouth as he asked, “How does it feel? Warmer than the cloak, isn’t it?”
He wasn’t wrong, but… it was too hot!
Xu Xingxing struggled to free her hand from his scorching grip. “I’m about to break a sweat! Can you lower the temperature a little?”
Xiao Hei remained silent, not releasing her hand. Instead, the curve of his lips deepened, like a mischievous child, as he pulled her forward without hesitation.
After walking for some time, flickering lights appeared about a hundred meters ahead. The people holding them seemed to have spotted the group as well, quickly moving toward them.
They were several servants dressed in thick clothing and straw raincoats. Upon seeing the group, they bowed respectfully. “You must be the immortal masters from Kunlun. Our master sent us to await your arrival. The weather in Qingzhou is bitterly cold, please follow us quickly.”
The moment they stepped into the city, everyone noticed that the temperature inside Qingzhou was noticeably warmer, and the snowfall had significantly lightened.
Before anyone could ask, the lead servant explained, “Immortal masters, it has been snowing in Qingzhou for over a month. If not for our master offering his magical artifact, the Cold-Avoiding Pearl, many of the city’s residents would have frozen to death. Although the people are safe for now, the farmlands are likely to yield no harvest.”
“Who is your master? How does he possess such an artifact?” Qin Feng inquired.
“That would be Qi Rongli, a grand-disciple of Master Yue,” Fang Zhiming sighed. “At the end of the Great Demon Extermination War, Senior Qi was the sect leader of the Beast Taming Sect. His bonded spirit beast perished in battle, causing him to lose all his cultivation. After the war, he left Kunlun and descended the mountain.”
“How did he know we were coming?” Lin Yue whispered.
“Half a month ago, Kunlun sent two disciples to investigate this area. Later, those two fellow cultivators suddenly went missing. Then, Senior Qi sent a message to Kunlun, informing our master that he had coincidentally rescued someone who appeared to be a Kunlun cultivator and was allowing them to recuperate at his residence. Today, he sent people to escort us, likely because our master informed him in advance.”
“Why didn’t my master tell me anything about this?” Qin Feng frowned.
“Probably because you’re too particular and overly critical about missions.”
“How could that be! Next time, just tell my senior sister to go instead!”
Fang Zhiming: ???
“Since when have you admired Senior Sister so much?”
Qin Feng chuckled. “Isn’t it natural to be captivated by Senior Sister’s aura and feel an instant connection, regretting not having met her sooner?”
“I recall you once boasted that you were Kunlun’s most gifted prodigy and that if Xu Xing’er weren’t the sect leader’s daughter, she wouldn’t compare to-” Fang Zhiming’s mouth was abruptly covered.
Qin Feng blinked desperately. “Please, Senior Brother, say no more! I was young and ignorant back then, unaware of my own limitations, alright?”
Amidst the banter, they arrived at the Qi residence without even realizing it.
From a distance, they could see several people waiting at the gate, among them a young woman waving enthusiastically in their direction.
Impatient with their slow pace, she dashed forward to greet them, arms wide open, and enveloped Xu Xingxing in a bear hug.
Xu Xingxing exclaimed in surprise, “What are you doing here? Qi Rongli? Is he your brother?”
Qi Danxuan inexplicably blushed. “He’s not exactly my blood brother, we’re distant relatives separated by several branches of the family. I just grew up here since childhood, and later, through his recommendation, I joined Kunlun.”
Xu Xingxing watched Qi Danxuan’s lovestruck maidenly demeanor and could almost smell the scent of gossip.
Qi Danxuan led the group to a young man draped in a dark blue cloak and introduced him to everyone, saying, “This is my elder brother Qi Rongli. Just follow my lead and call him ‘brother’.”
