How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 12
Xiao Hei’s fingertips trembled slightly as he took in the scene before him.
Amidst a vibrant cluster of blooming flowers, she sat amidst the splendor and looked up at him. Her calm eyes reflected the dazzling brilliance of the surrounding blossoms, causing his heart to skip a beat for a moment.
“Shall we begin?” the woman asked again.
Only then did he realize he had been lost in thought. Annoyed with himself, he sat down and replied curtly, “Ask.”
“Do you know that demon?”
From the fire in Xuan City to Bai Lu nearly losing her life today, Xiao Hei’s actions had left her utterly confused.
If one were to say he was conspiring with the demon, it was clearly he who had brought her here, claiming to catch the culprit.
If one were to say he was innocent, not only was his aura detected during the fire, but she had also witnessed it with her own eyes today. There was no way she could convince herself that the demon had nothing to do with him.
“I don’t know it,” Xiao Hei replied, seeing how straightforward she was, he saw no reason to hide anything. “But it knows me.”
“It knows you?” Xu Xingxing exclaimed in surprise.
“Yes.” And it was even afraid of him.
“Did you help it set the fire in Xuan City?”
“Why would I help it?”
“Then why was your aura detected?”
“That demon has the ability to absorb attacks and use them for itself, but it can only do so once.”
“Did you send it to devour Bai Lu today?”
“It came for Bai Lu on its own. It’s just that its power is too weak to do anything but feed on humans. I happened to run into it and gave it a little help.”
Gave it a little help?? So eager to help others? Xu Xingxing felt her anger rising again.
She sneered, “If you’re so kind, why help it and not me?”
“Haven’t I helped you?” Xiao Hei looked innocent. “Didn’t I bring it right to you?”
You call that helping me?? Anger level rising.
She was so furious it gave her a headache. Rubbing her temples, she said, “Fine. So, you never intended to kill it from the start, right?”
“Not exactly. I killed it, but it didn’t die completely.” Xiao Hei suddenly smiled. “Do you think it’s dead this time?”
That day, he had burned it to ashes, but beneath the ashes, he noticed a black spot the size of a coin, scurrying away like an insect.
He hadn’t paid it much mind until he went to investigate the fire and realized that tiny black spot had such immense power.
“So, is it completely dead now?”
“Guess.”
Xu Xingxing felt a slight unease at his smile but forced it down. Staring into his eyes, she asked, “One last question.”
“Is there anything else you’re hiding from me now?”
Xiao Hei gazed into those clear, untroubled eyes, so pure and bright, and his voice softened involuntarily. “I’ve lost my memory.”
“Lost your memory?”
He lowered his gaze, an uncharacteristic loneliness in his expression. “I don’t know why I appeared in the forest, why I was severely injured, or even who I am.”
“But you said that insect knows you?”
“It can’t speak. When I first met it, it couldn’t even understand human language.”
“So, you helped it devour Bai Lu to increase its power? So, it could speak?”
“I brought it to you, didn’t I?” Xiao Hei’s eyes sparkled with amusement again.
Damn you.
“How did you know I would be there? If I had still been in the village, Bai Lu would have died for nothing.”
Xiao Hei pointed to the floating Bestiary in the air and answered candidly, “I was betting on whether it would warn you in advance. If it didn’t, then I’d just help the insect gain some power. Either way worked for me.”
Xu Xingxing let out a cold laugh, provoked by him. “You’re quite clever.”
“Flattery will get you nowhere.”
After she had finished asking all her questions, she no longer wanted to see Xiao Hei’s smug face. She turned away, deciding that out of sight meant out of mind.
Seeing her puffed-up cheeks, Xiao Hei felt the urge to tease her again. “Do you know what it means to draw someone into your consciousness?”
“What? A spiritual connection?” Xu Xingxing replied impatiently.
Xiao Hei: “…”
Recalling how she had boldly pressed close to him earlier, a flicker of irritation stirred within him. “Are all cultivators as shameless as you?”
“You’re my bonded spirit beast, what’s the harm in entering my consciousness?” Xu Xingxing sounded puzzled. “It’s not like anything actually happened.”
“You really trust me,” he said, inexplicably irked by her nonchalant attitude. “If I were to wreak havoc here, you’d end up a fool.”
Xu Xingxing froze. “Really?”
“Having a foolish master might not be so bad,” Xiao Hei mused, glancing around as if considering where to start.
“I saved your life, and all you think about is how to harm me?” Xu Xingxing snapped angrily.
Xiao Hei chuckled at her anger. “You forced the beast contract on me without my consent, and you expect gratitude?”
“So, I’m the one at fault here?” She rolled her eyes and lay down. “Hurry up then. Qi Danxuan and the others will be here soon.”
Amused by her defiant attitude, Xiao Hei asked, “Why aren’t you afraid?”
A sly grin suddenly spread across Xu Xingxing’s face. “Guess why I’m not scared?”
Seeing her expression, Xiao Hei felt a sudden unease. In the next moment, he was forcibly pulled out of her consciousness. Opening his eyes, he saw the woman before him smirking mischievously, and then he noticed something new around his neck, a short golden chain hanging from a red silk ribbon, with a small golden bell dangling at the end.
The bell rested just below his collarbone, exuding an alluring charm.
Xu Xingxing admired the bell with satisfaction. It was well worth the effort, she had sketched the design herself and spent two days overseeing its reforging. Her taste was truly impeccable.
Originally named the Beast-Binding Chain, the artifact had been a plain, unadorned chain. After she told Yue Baiyin about her dream, he had rummaged through his belongings and gifted it to her. He explained that if Xiao Hei proved uncontrollable, she could fasten it around his throat. It would alert her to any malicious intent and compel him to obey her commands.
She hadn’t planned to use it at first, but the gruesome image of the demon devouring the white deer had shaken her. So, while luring Xiao Hei into her consciousness, she had brought out the chain.
A true divine artifact, it sought its target on its own and fastened around the neck when least expected.
As the amusement faded from Xiao Hei’s eyes, the frustration she had held in her chest finally found release.
Serves you right for being unruly!
She watched as Xiao Hei tried every method to remove the bell, failing each time. “It’ll come off on its own once you become a good dog,” she offered helpfully.
Just like the Golden Headband, she thought smugly to herself.
Xiao Hei’s spiritual energy surged violently, flames erupting around him. With a snap of her fingers, she commanded, “Extinguish!”
The flames died out, and his energy settled.
Xu Xingxing laughed heartily. Damn, this thing really worked!
Xiao Hei: “…”
As he turned to leave, Xu Xingxing parted her crimson lips and uttered another word:
“Freeze.”
Xiao Hei stood motionless.
Seeing Xiao Hei’s unusually dark expression, she rose with great satisfaction and asked, “Is that creature completely dead?”
Xiao Hei’s eyes brimmed with undisguised mockery. Just as he was about to speak, Xu Xingxing gently shook a bell. With a clear chime, Xiao Hei’s figure stiffened abruptly. He slowly spoke, his words dripping with barely suppressed fury:
“Not yet.”
“Where is it then?”
“Inside every person in the village.”
Watching Xiao Hei’s gradually taunting eyes, a sudden chill ran through her body. Seeing Qi Danxuan and Luo Zisheng finally arrive, she instructed them to guard the white deer before grabbing Xiao Hei and swiftly heading toward the village.
Before even reaching the village, she felt the air turn piercingly cold. The surrounding branches and leaves were covered in frost, and thick snow piled on the ground.
Her steps never faltered, her mind filled with Xiao Hei’s recent words:
“It has the ability to turn attacks against it to its own advantage.”
She had attacked it not long ago, and now this widespread ice and snow was her own technique!
Xu Xingxing instantly felt a deep chill permeate her entire body. Before reaching the mountain village, she saw the entire settlement frozen under thick ice, resembling a massive iceberg standing amidst the green mountains. The cool moonlight shone upon the icy mass, making it look like a transparent tombstone erected before her eyes.
Within the iceberg, she spotted several dark masses moving about. Wherever they passed, people on the ground were completely swallowed up, vanishing without a trace.
Without a moment to spare for thought, she gathered intense spiritual energy in her palm and struck the iceberg, shattering it completely. The demonic creature, exposed, merged into one mass and charged toward her.
Knowing she could no longer use ice-based techniques, if it escaped, the consequences would be endless, she quickly picked up a sword from the ground and attacked the creature.
The demonic creature, having consumed who knows how many people, was now as large as a giant tree, its form spreading out to envelop her.
Xiao Hei immediately summoned flames around himself, preparing to attack the creature, when the woman in the air shouted, “Stay out of it! Extinguish!”
The flames died out as if doused by torrential rain, and he found himself unable to muster any strength.
Moving with incredible speed, she teleported behind the creature and slashed at it. After suffering heavy blows, the creature twisted violently and spat out several people.
Seeing the people fall to the ground, Xu Xingxing felt a surge of relief:
So, it had swallowed too many people and hadn’t digested them yet!
Her movements became even more agile as she slashed at the creature, striking from different angles with each blow. The creature continued to vomit people, its size shrinking accordingly.
Once it seemed to have expelled everyone, the creature trembled violently as if in terror, then suddenly split into countless smaller masses scattering in all directions.
It was trying to escape!
Xu Xingxing pressed two fingers to her lips and softly chanted an incantation. Ice walls quickly rose around them, merging overhead.
It had become a completely sealed ice cavern!
She stood in the air, her robes fluttering, her back to the moonlight, her gaze imperious like a deity.
Xiao Hei stared at the graceful figure above, unable to look away.
With the cage complete, Xu Xingxing pursued the demonic creature within the ice.
Her movements were swift and precise, leaving the scattered masses with nowhere to hide, gradually diminishing in number. Just as she thought she was close to success, the people around her suddenly stood up like zombies and attacked her.
She suddenly remembered Xiao Hei’s words, these people also had the creatures inside them!
Would this never end?
She barely managed to dodge the attackers, but as her movements slowed, she saw the demon’s clones burrow into the bodies of the people.
With more and more assailants closing in, anxiety gnawed at her heart, yet she found no way to counter them.
Just when she was at her wit’s end, the distant call of a white deer suddenly echoed through the mountains, prolonged, profound, mysterious, and ethereal.
