How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 72.1
Jiang Yuran nervously bit her fingernails, guiltily stealing several glances at Chen Yushu. Recalling the things Chen Yushu had told her earlier, she had to admit she was wrong, terribly wrong!
But she had analyzed it based on past experiences, how could this happen?
No, why is Lu Wei like this? She doesn’t follow the script at all!
Her lifelong reputation!
It’s over, how is she going to explain this to Chen Yushu?
Should she go and clarify right now?
But looking at the words on the calendar, the corresponding date seemed to be the day Lu Wei returned. Could it be that she planned to confess that day?
Thinking of this, Jiang Yuran suddenly understood and nodded slowly, a knowing smile spreading across her face.
So that’s how it is. It seems Lu Wei is quite clever after all!
And as for her, she only needed to drop a few hints here and there to bring two lovers together.
She was still quite a competent strategist!
That night, after finishing her bedtime routine and getting into bed, Chen Yushu received a video call from Lu Wei right on time.
Chen Yushu glanced at it but ignored it. Only after plugging her phone in to charge did she leisurely switch the video call to an audio call.
“Hey, where are you?” Lu Wei’s puzzled voice came through. “That’s strange, I’m sure I called with video.”
“What do you want?” Chen Yushu asked lazily.
“Wait a moment, I’ll call you again.” With that, Lu Wei’s voice abruptly cut off, and the call ended.
Chen Yushu frowned slightly but still switched to audio. “Just talk like this.”
“No! I can’t even see you, how am I supposed to talk?” Lu Wei immediately protested loudly.
“Use your mouth.”
“I don’t want to! I’m calling again don’t you dare hang up!”
“Lu Wei.” Chen Yushu started to stop her, but in the next second, a dial tone sounded from the receiver.
After a long standoff, Chen Yushu cursed Lu Wei under her breath and finally gave in, answering the call with a huff, glaring at the person on the other side.
The background light was a bit too bright. Lu Wei’s face was close to the camera, grinning more brilliantly than a flower. “Hehe, Chen Yushu, are you in bed?”
Chen Yushu snorted dismissively. “Spit it out if you have something to say!”
“Did you get the package?” Lu Wei rested her chin in her hand, staring at the screen with a cheerful expression.
Chen Yushu hummed in acknowledgment. “Why did you buy a calendar?”
“Uh.” Lu Wei bit her lip, touched behind her ear, and averted her eyes. “Just to tear it for fun.”
“Why are you making that face?” Chen Yushu took in her expression and then glanced at the calendar on the desk.
“What?” Lu Wei feigned confusion, touching her own face.
Chen Yushu raised an eyebrow, watching her intently. “What are you up to again?”
“Nothing.” Lu Wei licked her lips and mumbled, “Just when you tear off each page, think of me a little. Don’t forget about me.”
“How boring.”
“You have to remember, okay.”
Chen Yushu stayed silent, unwilling to engage.
“Let me tell you, today we went sketching outdoors” Lu Wei started talking on her own. “I almost got heatstroke. The sun didn’t look that strong, but after sitting for just a while, I”
Chen Yushu listened half-heartedly, not really wanting to respond, but couldn’t help asking, “Didn’t you bring any medicine to prevent heatstroke?”
“No.” Seeing her concern, Lu Wei immediately put on a pitiful act, extending her arm toward the screen and whining, “Look, it’s all red here.”
Under the overexposed lighting, Lu Wei’s arm on the screen appeared so pale it was almost blurred, making it impossible to see anything clearly. Chen Yushu couldn’t help but bring the phone closer.
Just then, Lu Wei lowered her hand, and her enlarged face suddenly appeared on the screen.
Chen Yushu’s heart gave an involuntary jolt. Though separated by a screen, in different spaces, thousands of miles apart, she couldn’t help but feel a sudden panic. As her gaze inadvertently swept over Lu Wei’s slightly flushed lips, the memory of their touch abruptly resurfaced in her mind.
Lu Wei froze for a second, as if struck by a thought. She pursed her lips, the corners of her mouth twitching upward uncontrollably, but the expression vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.
“Is there a hospital nearby?” Chen Yushu moved the phone farther away, glanced at her, and frowned. “Go buy some medicine yourself tomorrow. It’s late, go to sleep. I’m hanging up now.”
“Huh?” Lu Wei let out a surprised sound, but managed to say “Goodnight” just before the call ended.
Below the bed.
Jiang Yuran, who had been eavesdropping all along, couldn’t hold back any longer and sat up, giving Chen Yushu a meaningful look.
“What, what’s wrong with you?” Chen Yushu felt unnerved by her stare and couldn’t help rubbing her arms.
“Ugh, I really can’t stand you two.”
“Huh?” Chen Yushu grew even more puzzled. “What exactly is going on with you?”
“Ahem.” Jiang Yuran quickly suppressed her smile and blinked suggestively. “I just realized, well you two um.”
At this, a question mark practically materialized above Chen Yushu’s head. “What are you mumbling about?”
“Anyway!” Jiang Yuran put her hands on her hips, lifted her chin, and declared with certainty, “It’s exactly what you were thinking before!”
Chen Yushu’s eyelid twitched. “What?”
“Just you wait and see.” Jiang Yuran curled her lips into a mysterious smile.
Chen Yushu chuckled helplessly. “Since when did you learn to speak in riddles?”
“I am no longer the person I used to be.” Jiang Yuran spoke with an air of profound wisdom, raised an eyebrow, and gave another enigmatic smile before grandly sitting back down, snickering to herself.
Those involved are always blind you’re all mere mortals!
It’s up to this master strategist to guide you to enlightenment!
With the three-day orientation activities over, university life settled into a routine. Coursework didn’t lessen but instead increased. Fortunately, there were no experiments in the first few weeks, and evening self-study sessions weren’t mandatory, so things remained relatively manageable.
Class committee duties also proceeded in an orderly fashion. As the academic monitor, Chen Yushu’s most important task during this period was handling the application and selection process for various scholarships and grants.
After posting the relevant information and forms in the group chat, Chen Yushu calculated how much money she could receive.
It was about what she had expected, she qualified for everything she’d applied for, and with the additional competition prize money, it was more than enough.
Just then, her roommates saw the messages and started exclaiming one after another.
“Ugh Chen Yushu, are you even human?” Ye Chiwan gasped dramatically, pointing a trembling finger at her. “Such a high comprehensive evaluation score are you trying to kill yourself?”
“Alright, alright, so I’m just an NPC in this world, huh?”
“Sigh, then I’m just here to make up the numbers.”
Ye Chiwan and Jiang Yuran bantered back and forth, while only Xia Ke was seriously filling out the forms.
Chen Yushu said, “Hurry up and get yours done. With the extra points, you might be able to aim for second or third prize.”
Hearing this, the two immediately perked up and began racking their brains to recall everything they’d done over the past year. “Do CET-4 and CET-6 scores count for extra points?”
“Yes.”
“What about the Computer Level 2 exam?”
Chen Yushu nodded.
“Yes!” Jiang Yuran looked at her steadily increasing credits and rubbed her hands excitedly. “Wow, I can’t believe I actually got third place!”
“Hey, by the way, rich girl, any plans for the money?” Suddenly struck by an idea, Jiang Yuran’s eyes lit up as she leaned closer to Chen Yushu and whispered, “How about using it to keep Lu Wei?”
Chen Yushu’s eyes widened in shock. She slowly turned to look at Jiang Yuran, her expression clearly asking, What on earth are you talking about?
“I think it’s a pretty good idea,” Jiang Yuran swallowed nervously, forcing herself to continue. “If Lu Wei agrees, you can spend money to have some fun. If she refuses, you can use the money to humiliate her, torment her, and crush her. Eventually, familiarity might just breed affection, hehehehe.”
Jiang Yuran grew more and more excited as she spoke, even licking her dry lips unconsciously.
“Cough, cough, cough.” Chen Yushu choked on her water, coughing violently from the shock. “Have you been reading too many novels lately?”
“Don’t even say it, don’t even say it,” Jiang Yuran clapped her hands together. “Childhood friends, growing up together, friendship turning into something more this kind of development is totally reasonable!”
Chen Yushu shook her head in disbelief. “Go read your novels.”
“Alright, fine, let’s drop it. But.” Jiang Yuran stroked her chin, studying Chen Yushu’s expression as she mumbled, “I feel like Lu Wei treats you differently. It doesn’t seem like just a simple friendship.”
“Are you okay?” Chen Yushu laughed in surprise, then placed a hand on Jiang Yuran’s forehead. “Are you drunk? Or do you have a fever?”
“Listen, let me break it down for you carefully,” Jiang Yuran began counting on her fingers, explaining point by point.
Chen Yushu remained unmoved, eyeing her with suspicion. “Didn’t you say before that all this was just your niece’s little tricks?”
“Uh, well, every situation is different,” Jiang Yuran faltered. Under Chen Yushu’s increasingly doubtful gaze, she quickly tried to recover. “Remember that wooden comb she gave you once? The meaning behind it was more important than its actual use, I thought it was strange back then, and now I’ve finally figured it out!”
“I feel like… I don’t even know you anymore. Are you trying to set us up?” Chen Yushu shuddered slightly, shaking her head to dismiss the thought. “You’re overthinking it. It’s probably just a coincidence.”
Jiang Yuran: Damn, I really shot myself in the foot by being so dismissive before.
“No, that’s not it,” Jiang Yuran said anxiously. “Don’t think like that. Maybe Lu Wei is deliberately hinting at something. Ugh, if you don’t believe me, go check.”
She almost let slip about the calendar but caught herself just in time, quickly changing the subject: “Go check your chat history.”
Chen Yushu: “…”
Forget it, Jiang Yuran thought, rubbing her forehead. Lu Wei, you’re on your own!
Page by page, the calendar grew thinner a tangible witness to the passage of time, a physical manifestation of longing that only grew stronger instead of fading.
Lu Wei must be insane! What’s the point of giving me this? And reporting the countdown every single day she’s doing it on purpose!
Chen Yushu placed the torn-off calendar page into a square tin box, staring blankly at the remaining third of the calendar. She couldn’t help but curse the person responsible in her heart.
This inexplicable sense of ritual gave her the illusion that each day felt incredibly long.
The longing in her heart grew, quickly overshadowing her annoyance at Lu Wei.
Realizing this, Chen Yushu immediately scolded herself in disgust. Where’s your dignity?
Speak of the devil.
Ding-a-ling
“What’s with the video calls every single day? Are you that free?”
“So harsh.” Lu Wei’s smile faded, replaced by a pitiful expression. “And here I was planning to give you a surprise in a few days.”
“Don’t bother.” Chen Yushu snorted lightly, turning her gaze away but still glancing at her out of the corner of her eye. “Just don’t give me a scare, that’s all.”
“Why do you always think so poorly of me these days?”
Just then, Qi An suddenly started venting in the group chat, sending a flurry of messages one after another, the notifications chiming incessantly.
【So bored, how did summer break fly by so fast?】
【Where have all of you disappeared to?】
【Why is no one asking me to hang out? Ran Qin and Zhou Rongrong are off being lovey-dovey, but what about the other two?!】
【Don’t tell me you two are getting together too!】
Suddenly tagged, Chen Yushu awkwardly lowered her head and brushed her hair aside.
“Qi An’s going crazy again late at night, just ignore her.” Lu Wei cleared her throat. “Where were we?”
Just as Chen Yushu was about to reply, she saw Qi An send another message.
【What’s going on?】
【Is there one less person in the group?】
“Huh? How is that possible?” Lu Wei said, puzzled, as she opened the group chat to check. “There really is one less person.”
