How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 37.2
Chen Yushu’s heart leaped, as if sensing something. She quickly picked up her phone to check.
The next second, she threw off the covers, hurriedly slipped on her shoes, grabbed a cotton coat, quietly opened the door, and stealthily left home.
She had thought Lu Wei’s message saying “I miss you so much I could cry” was just an expression, but as soon as Chen Yushu stepped outside, she heard the sound of suppressed, muffled sobs.
The motion-sensor light in the hallway wasn’t on, leaving it pitch dark. Chen Yushu turned on her flashlight, climbed up one flight of stairs, and softly called Lu Wei’s name.
“Chen Yushu ” The moment she spoke, Lu Wei choked up, unable to say anything else, leaving only increasingly loud, hiccupping sobs.
Chen Yushu’s heart clenched, and she quickly took a few large steps forward, sitting down beside Lu Wei.
“Waaah, Shushu, I don’t want hic to be apart from you hic ” The moment Chen Yushu arrived, Lu Wei could no longer hold back. She threw her arms around her, crying so hard she could barely catch her breath, her words slurred and incoherent.
“There, there,” Chen Yushu quickly soothed, patting her back to calm her down. “It’s not like we’re parting forever, why are you crying so bitterly?”
“It is like parting forever! Waaah, I don’t want I don’t want to be apart from you.” Lu Wei’s sobs grew even louder. “Waaah, what am I supposed to do? Let them move if they want, but I, I’m not going.”
Suddenly, the motion-sensor light flickered on.
Startled, Lu Wei lifted her head, looking up and down the hallway. Seeing no one, she sniffled a couple of times before preparing to burst into tears again.
Seeing this, Chen Yushu quickly cupped her face. “Shh, keep it down. Don’t disturb the neighbors.”
Lu Wei’s sobs abruptly died in her throat. Her eyes were filled with confusion and grievance, her lips trembling uncontrollably. A few seconds later, large teardrops, as big as beans, welled up in her reddened eyes, quickly forming a steady stream.
Chen Yushu frowned, her heart twisting into a knot. She reached out to carefully wipe away Lu Wei’s tears, but the more she wiped, the more they fell.
The motion-sensor light soon turned off, plunging the hallway back into darkness.
With her vision gone, her other senses instantly sharpened. Chen Yushu’s fingers stiffened, hesitating as she thought about pulling her hand back. But the next moment, Lu Wei grabbed her hand and pressed it against her own cheek.
“Shushu,” Lu Wei called out in a trembling voice, sniffing before burying her head against Chen Yushu’s chest and starting to sob again.
Just as her cries threatened to grow uncontrollable once more, Chen Yushu felt Lu Wei bite into her clothes. Soon, her thin undershirt grew damp, clinging to her skin with a humid, stifling warmth.
The trembling in the body she held gradually subsided. Chen Yushu patted her back rhythmically. “Why can’t you stop crying once you start?”
Lu Wei’s eyes were dry and sore from crying, with no more tears left to shed, but her nose still twitched uncontrollably, occasionally punctuated by a few hiccupping sobs. “I’m sad, so sad. Just thinking about being apart from you makes me.”
“Don’t cry, don’t cry,” Chen Yushu quickly reassured her, ruffling her hair. “It’s just moving. We can still see each other. And once school starts, we’ll be together again.”
“I don’t want to hear it! I’m just miserable,” Lu Wei protested, rubbing her face against Chen Yushu like a petulant child. At some point, her face had pressed against the hollow of Chen Yushu’s neck and collarbone, her warm breath seeping in through the collar of her shirt.
“Lu Wei,” Chen Yushu’s body stiffened slightly as she leaned back, trying to reason with her. “It’s okay. You’ll get used to it over time.”
“Why do we have to get used to being apart instead of getting used to being together?” Lu Wei murmured, suddenly stubborn. “I don’t care! I’m not leaving! Being apart would break my heart. Can’t you just feel sorry for me?”
Chen Yushu felt a soft ache in her heart. She took a long breath and said with a hint of helplessness, “This isn’t something I can decide.”
“Then I’ll decide. Just beg me a little ask me to stay, okay?”
Chen Yushu chuckled softly. “Lu Wei, why are you so childish?”
Lu Wei immediately let out a whimper, pressing her face against Chen Yushu’s neck and nuzzling it over and over, full of attachment, like a cat.
The hallway fell quiet. Lu Wei tilted her head slightly, her nose gliding from Chen Yushu’s collarbone up to her neck familiar fragrance, delicate skin. Slowly, the mood of her actions shifted, gradually slipping beyond her control.
“Lu Wei.” Chen Yushu couldn’t take it anymore and called out softly, her throat tight.
The darkness nurtured the wild growth of an ambiguous atmosphere.
Hearing her voice, Lu Wei made a questioning sound from her throat. As she lifted her head, her lips brushed against Chen Yushu’s neck and paused at her chin. Strangely, she didn’t want to stop. A sudden longing surged from deep within her to get closer, even closer.
The two were pressed close, their breaths entangled, indistinguishable from one another.
Lu Wei licked her lips, suddenly feeling parched and restless, her soul inexplicably agitated. “Chen Yushu, I ”
” Hmm?” Chen Yushu held her breath for a long moment before finally making a sound.
Lu Wei didn’t speak. Instead, she abruptly pulled away. Before Chen Yushu could even sigh in relief, she felt a scorching breath sweep across the tip of her nose.
It felt exactly like they were about to kiss.
What on earth… was she trying to do? Chen Yushu’s adrenaline spiked, her mind racing, yet her body remained completely frozen, so sensitive she could detect every minute change.
The atmosphere was just too strange. Afraid it might be another product of her own imagination, Chen Yushu swallowed and desperately wanted to ask Lu Wei what she meant.
Just then, footsteps echoed from downstairs, and the motion-sensor light flicked on abruptly. Startled, Chen Yushu reflexively closed her eyes.
Lu Wei stared straight at Chen Yushu’s face, but the confusion in her heart grew even stronger than it had been in the dark.
The footsteps finally stopped on the fifth floor. When Lu Zhixing opened the door, he saw Wang Zhizhi sitting on the sofa, the light from the window casting a lonely silhouette around her.
He turned on the light, walked over, and gently patted her back. “What’s wrong? Something on your mind?”
Wang Zhizhi said, “I was thinking did we act too hastily by moving so suddenly? Maybe we didn’t consider Weiwei’s feelings enough.”
“Does Weiwei not want to move?” Lu Zhixing asked.
Wang Zhizhi nodded. “Yes, she’s very resistant.”
Lu Zhixing wasn’t surprised. “For Weiwei, this place and the people here hold special meaning. It’s normal that she doesn’t want to leave.”
“Exactly. I remember back then, my career had just taken off, and I was so busy I completely failed to notice the changes in Weiwei,” Wang Zhizhi recalled. “Luckily, her teacher pointed it out, but it was already too late. No matter how many schools we transferred her to, she never liked any of them. It wasn’t until we moved here . I never expected that someone as quiet and introverted as Xiaoshu could get along so well with her.”
Lu Zhixing nodded. “Yeah, Weiwei was quite the oddball as a child, didn’t like interacting with others, and when she did, she was domineering and unreasonable. No wonder the other kids couldn’t stand her.”
Wang Zhizhi couldn’t help but laugh along. “But Xiaoshu has always been different to her. Whatever feelings Weiwei has for Xiaoshu, I’ll accept it.”
Lu Zhixing: “Of course, what era is this anyway? As long as she’s happy, that’s what matters. As for moving, we’ll figure something out.”
“Alright.”
The hallway returned to silence, the earlier atmosphere completely gone, as if everything that had just happened was an illusion. Chen Yushu glanced at Lu Wei’s calm profile from the corner of her eye and completely lost the courage to ask any questions.
“It’s getting late, hurry back now. Don’t be sad.” Chen Yushu stood up, reached out, and pulled Lu Wei to her feet.
“Mhm.” Lu Wei glanced at her and slowly walked down the stairs.
Back in her room, Lu Wei lay on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Her chest felt as if a heavy boulder were pressing down on it, suffocating and oppressive.
It wasn’t just because of the move. There was something else she seemed to know what it was deep down, but couldn’t quite grasp it, muddled and hazy.
Gradually, a fog began to form in her mind.
She got up and opened the door. In the dark hallway, Chen Yushu sat alone on the steps. She hurried over, sat down, and held her tightly.
Suddenly, something wet fell on her face. “Chen Yushu, why are you crying?”
Chen Yushu didn’t speak. Panicked, Lu Wei hurriedly wiped her tears, but somehow, gradually, the one crying became her. She buried her head in Chen Yushu’s chest, cried until she was exhausted, and then leaned on Chen Yushu’s shoulder.
The fragrance from her hair drifted over, enticing her like an addiction. She kept moving closer, pressing against the side of her neck, moving upward until she touched something soft, like jelly. She couldn’t resist giving it a gentle bite. Her breathing instantly became erratic, and something urged her to go deeper.
Click!
The lights turned on.
She jolted awake abruptly, Chen Yushu’s magnified face right before her eyes.
In bed, Lu Wei’s eyes snapped open, her breathing somewhat hurried. The final scene from the dream lingered in her mind.
What kind of ridiculous dream was that!
How could she, how could she and,
The scenes from the dream kept flashing before her eyes. Lu Wei didn’t dare to think too deeply about it and quickly pulled the blanket over her face.
Damn it! Damn it!
Even though she knew it was just a dream, Lu Wei couldn’t calm down at all. Her heart felt like it had collapsed over and over again.
Chen Yushu considered her a friend, how could she do something like that? Besides, she was straight!
Could it be separation anxiety? So the actions in the dream were just a bit more intimate?
Lu Wei nodded in agreement with herself, but she still felt a little confused. Thinking about it, she took out her phone and searched online.
“Homosexual dependency syndrome? A common psychological transitional phenomenon during adolescence… not equivalent to homosexuality.” After reading it in one breath, Lu Wei held her phone and let out a huge sigh of relief. “Thank goodness, that’s what I thought.”
Otherwise, she’d really have no face to see Chen Yushu.
Lu Wei quickly put the matter aside, glanced at her phone, and decided to go back to sleep.
However, the moment she closed her eyes, she immediately shot up from the bed. She had forgotten she still had driving practice today!
When she rushed to the driving school, she was still late. Lu Wei crouched by the entrance, just in time to hear the instructor angrily scolding someone. Going in now would be asking for trouble!
Suddenly, her phone rang with a notification. It was a message from Wang Zhizhi.
[Weiwei, I’m sorry for making the decision to move without discussing it with you first and not considering your feelings. I thought about it carefully last night. How about this: we’ll leave the old house as it is. If you want to come back during holidays, we can stay here.]
So that meant she wouldn’t have to be separated from Chen Yushu after all?
Lu Weixin’s heart leaped with joy. After replying to Wang Zhizhi, she couldn’t wait to share the news with Chen Yushu.
At that moment, Chen Yushu had just finished her class and was about to pack her things to leave. Seeing Lu Weixin’s message, the gloom of the entire day instantly vanished. She couldn’t help but chuckle, her hand trembling slightly from excitement as she held her phone.
“Professor Chen, was that a message from your boyfriend?”
Hearing this, Chen Yushu was momentarily taken aback. She turned to the little girl and said, “No.”
“Then it must be someone the teacher likes.” The little girl held a pen, looking as if she understood everything.
Chen Yushu smiled but didn’t deny it. “Focus on your studies. See you tomorrow.”
While waiting for the elevator, Lu Wei sent another message, asking when she would finish class.
【Just ended. What about you? Have you started driving practice?】
Lu Wei: 【Not yet, but I’m planning to skip class. I’ll go back with you.】
Surprised that they were going to meet so soon, Chen Yushu froze, unable to suppress the memory of last night, and a trace of timidity suddenly surfaced.
When she arrived at the agreed-upon spot, Chen Yushu glanced around but didn’t see Lu Wei. Just as she was about to call and ask where she was, she felt someone tap her on the back. Lu Wei poked her head out from the side.
“Hehe, I’m here.”
