How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 29.2
But instead of calming down, Lu Wei completely lost her composure and stomped toward her in a huff, “It’s all your fault! It’s all because you laughed at me and gave me a complex! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have. And you’re still laughing! Do you even have a heart?”
Hearing this, Chen Yushu laughed even harder, her hands weakly propping her up on the ground until she couldn’t hold it anymore and simply rolled over onto her side.
This gave Lu Wei the perfect opportunity. She immediately knelt beside her, blowing air and tickling her. “Laugh all you want, go ahead and laugh your fill now.”
Chen Yushu was completely powerless to resist, only able to vent her frustration with words. “Hahaha, why are you so domineering? It’s fine if you can’t do it, no need to force yourself and then blame me.”
“Who says I can’t! I used to get perfect scores!” Lu Wei grew more aggrieved and indignant as she spoke, suddenly standing up. “Today, I’m definitely going to show you!”
Chen Yushu glanced at the time and quickly pulled her back. “I need to go back and shower. It’s time to leave.”
“No way, you have to watch me finish today.” Lu Wei dug in her heels, trying to break free and charge forward.
“Lu Wei.” Chen Yushu quickly stood up, wrapped her arms around her, and guided her toward the exit of the field, softening her voice to coax her. “Let’s come back tomorrow, okay?”
Lu Wei’s struggles lessened slightly, though she still protested, “No! You laughed at me. I need to prove it to you!”
“Be good. Proving it tomorrow is just the same, exactly the same. Let’s go.”
“Hmph.” Lu Wei relaxed her body, letting herself be led, and muttered sheepishly, “Are you treating me like a child?”
Chen Yushu chuckled. “Where? Children are much more obedient than you. Give them a piece of candy and they’ll go. You’re sometimes as stubborn as an ox.”
“Where!” Lu Wei immediately retorted, poking her chin in dissatisfaction. “I listen to you, don’t I?”
“Really?” Chen Yushu released her and instead took her hand. “Then come back with me.”
Lu Wei stood her ground. “Even when coaxing a child, you give them candy. What about me? What are you giving me?”
Chen Yushu: “Then I’ll buy you an ice cream. Want one?”
“Yes!”
Chen Yushu’s eyes unconsciously filled with laughter. She really was easy to coax.
Hand in hand, the two walked side by side toward the supermarket. Along the way, Lu Wei was still brooding. “It must be the sandpit’s fault. No, something else was missing. No wonder I.”
Chen Yushu remained silent, not daring to respond.
Just then, Lu Wei suddenly shook her hand. “You can’t tell anyone about what happened today, okay?”
Chen Yushu: “There’s nothing worth mentioning. I won’t tell.”
Lu Wei: “Tomorrow, I’ll still be the one teaching you. You’re not allowed to ask anyone else, got it?”
Chen Yushu glanced at her, pursing her lips to hold back a laugh. “Okay.”
“Are you still laughing at me in your heart?” Before she could answer, Lu Wei continued, “You must be laughing at me! Don’t think I don’t know.”
“It’s all in the past, nothing like that.” Chen Yushu tried to sound as sincere as possible.
“Wah, I don’t believe you.” The more Lu Wei thought about it, the more upset she became. Finally, she buried her face in Chen Yushu’s neck, whimpering pitifully. “Wah, you made fun of me. You think I’m useless.”
“Really, I didn’t. Believe me.” Chen Yushu found it both amusing and endearing. Patting her back, she whispered softly into her ear, “Just prove it to me again tomorrow, and it’ll be fine.”
“Okay! Tomorrow, I’ll show you my true skills!”
As she spoke, the warm, damp breath brushed against Chen Yushu’s neck, making her suddenly aware of how intimate their position was. For someone with ulterior motives like her, it felt like a transgression.
Just then, the person in her arms looked up abruptly. “Do you hear me?”
Caught off guard, Chen Yushu’s eyelashes fluttered slightly as she tried to conceal her unrestrained heartbeat. “Mm.”
“Good, then let’s pinky swear.” Lu Wei released her and held up her little finger in front of her.
Chen Yushu let out a slight sigh of relief, hooked her pinky finger, and said, “Alright.”
“We still need to seal it with a stamp only then will it take effect,” Lu Wei declared with exaggerated seriousness.
Chen Yushu looked at her with amusement. She clearly remembered Lu Wei as a cool, aloof little girl when they were young, so how had she grown more childish with age?
Helpless, she could only play along. “Fine.”
The next day, at the same time, the two headed to the sports field after evening self-study.
Along the way, Lu Wei chattered nonstop, occasionally sneaking glances at her phone with a furtive air.
Chen Yushu, whose ears were practically calloused from listening, noticed her actions out of the corner of her eye and couldn’t help but ask curiously, “What are you looking at? You’re acting so guilty.”
Hearing this, Lu Wei quickly closed the instructional video on long jump she’d been watching. “Nothing. Walk faster today, I’m going to redeem myself!”
“Alright,” Chen Yushu nodded noncommittally.
Arriving at the same spot as the day before, Lu Wei handed her phone to Chen Yushu, then turned her determined gaze toward the sandpit. “Tonight, it’s do or die.”
Chen Yushu stifled a laugh, her eyes darting around as she struggled to maintain a solemn expression.
After warming up her joints briefly, Lu Wei didn’t hesitate. She dashed forward, took off, and landed her movements fluid and seamless.
“Ugh, I still need a takeoff board,” Lu Wei sighed dramatically. “That wasn’t very far.”
Chen Yushu approached and visually measured the distance, her mouth slowly falling open in disbelief. How did she manage that?
As if reading her mind, Lu Wei shook the sand off her feet and said casually, “This is nothing piece of cake.”
With that, she jogged back to the starting point and repeated the jump, then a third time, a fourth.
At first, Chen Yushu was stunned by the increasing distances, but gradually, she caught on and couldn’t help but laugh and tease, “Peacock showing off.”
Lu Wei grew more and more enthusiastic, and soon sweat beaded on her forehead, trickling down and stinging her eyes. Her hands were dirty, so she had to call out to Chen Yushu, “Shushu, help me! Sweat’s in my eyes.”
“Serves you right for showing off,” Chen Yushu scolded lightly as she pulled out a tissue and hurried over.
“I’m just doing this to teach you better.”
“Not likely, you peacock,” Chen Yushu retorted bluntly, carefully tucking Lu Wei’s stray hairs aside and gently wiping her eyes and forehead. “There.”
“Shushu, you’re the best,” Lu Wei said, leaning her forehead against Chen Yushu’s with a smile before pulling her to a spot. “I’ll teach you now. Try jumping first, and I’ll see what needs fixing.”
“Okay,” Chen Yushu licked her lips, clenched her hands, and got into position. At Lu Wei’s call of “Go!” she sprinted forward at full speed.
As the sandpit drew nearer, her heart pounded faster and faster.
But just as she was about to take off, her speed dropped sharply, turning the jump into little more than a standing leap.
Glancing back at the distance, Chen Yushu felt a wave of embarrassment it was nothing compared to Lu Wei’s jumps. She bit her lip and asked, “Are there a lot of problems?”
Lu Wei had already walked up to her. “Just minor issues. Plenty of room for improvement.”
“Really?” Chen Yushu was skeptical. She knew her own limits well enough.
Lu Wei nodded without hesitation. “You’re still the same as in middle school your biggest problem is fear. You can’t jump high enough, you’re afraid to extend your legs, and also.”
Chen Yushu listened quietly for a while, then couldn’t help but grumble inwardly, I believed your nonsense? Liar!
“That’s about it,” Lu Wei said. “Come on, let’s try the standing long jump first.”
Chen Yushu complied and walked over. Lu Wei stood on the same line as her. “Follow me.”
“Mm.” Chen Yushu bent her knees, mimicking Lu Wei’s motion of swinging her arms back.
“Right, then jump, tuck your abdomen, and extend your feet forward.” With that, Lu Wei landed steadily and turned to look at her. “Give it a try.”
Chen Yushu nodded. She had heard this theory countless times, but when it came time to actually jump, her limbs seemed to have a mind of their own.
Sure enough, her jump landed only half the distance of Lu Wei’s.
Chen Yushu stared at the gap between them, on the verge of tears, regretting for the nth time why she had signed up for this.
“Again.” Lu Wei stepped back to the line and motioned for Chen Yushu to continue, watching from the side.
Chen Yushu assumed the starting position, her palms sweating from nervousness. Just then, she felt Lu Wei come up behind her, gently placing her hands on either side of her waist. “A little lower.”
The voice came from behind her ear, sending shivers down her neck. Lu Wei seemed almost pressed against her back, and the places she touched tingled with electricity. Chen Yushu stiffened, her arm swings slowing abruptly.
“Move your hands back a bit.” Lu Wei grabbed her wrists and pulled them back slightly. “About here is good.”
Lu Wei was still earnestly instructing, but Chen Yushu’s mind couldn’t absorb a single word. She felt like a puppet, completely at Lu Wei’s mercy.
Fortunately, Lu Wei finally stepped back a little.
Chen Yushu swallowed, trying to loosen her stiff body, and jumped forward with all her might.
“Hmm, that’s a bit better than last time,” Lu Wei affirmed. “A few more tries.”
Chen Yushu didn’t reply, returning to the starting line a little farther from Lu Wei. Just as she was about to swing her arms and jump, Lu Wei suddenly called out to her and walked straight over. “Your jumping posture still has some issues.”
“Ah?” She looked up blankly, meeting Lu Wei’s eyes, and her breath hitched.
“Feet apart, shoulder-width apart, upper body leaning forward slightly.” As she spoke, Lu Wei patted her shoulder, then pressed her palm against Chen Yushu’s abdomen and spine, adjusting her angle.
The warmth of Lu Wei’s breath, the brush of her hair, the occasional touches every movement tugged at Chen Yushu’s nerves. Blood rushed to her head, and her face and neck flushed hot. She didn’t need to touch them to know how red they were.
“O-okay.” Chen Yushu couldn’t take it anymore and practically fled from Lu Wei’s embrace, turning her head to the side and murmuring, “Let’s continue tomorrow.”
“We’ve only just started. Are you tired?” Lu Wei asked, puzzled.
Chen Yushu couldn’t bring herself to look directly at Lu Wei, afraid she’d notice her strange reaction. She quickly pulled off her hair tie, letting her long hair fall to one side as a cover. “Yeah, a little.”
“Then how about we just practice the preparation moves today?” Lu Wei suggested.
Chen Yushu bit her lip, still wanting to refuse.
Just then, Lu Wei added, “I’ll demonstrate for you. Come stand behind me.”
Hearing this, Chen Yushu felt a bit more at ease and said, “Alright.”
“Watch how I exert force,” Lu Wei said as she took Chen Yushu’s hand and wrapped it around her own waist.
Chen Yushu’s pupils slightly widened, her heartbeat skipped a beat, and her senses were filled with Lu Wei’s scent. She gazed at Lu Wei’s profile, the longing in her eyes unconsciously growing stronger.
An impulse surged within her to throw caution to the wind and hold this person tightly.
“Got it?” Lu Wei asked.
Chen Yushu snapped back to reality, furrowing her brows as she inwardly scolded herself. She had already resolved to let go, so why was she slipping again…
She bit her lip hard, took a deep breath, and suddenly said, “Teach me again.”
“Alright.”
Chen Yushu clenched her fists tightly, focusing her attention and doing her utmost to ignore the presence of the person behind her.
“Relax your body a little, don’t tense up so much.”
Chen Yushu hummed in acknowledgment, slowly inhaling and exhaling as she guided her consciousness to drift elsewhere. She tried her best to recall all of Lu Wei’s flaws, hoping to extinguish the fire within her heart.
Philandering. Flirtatious, flippant. Frivolous.
One word after another surfaced in her mind, and Chen Yushu repeated them like a broken record.
Finally, by the time they parted ways, her heartbeat had returned to its normal rhythm.
Chen Yushu breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but think: It seems this method really works.
