How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 28.3
Chen Yushu took a sip of soup to calm down, eating with one hand while typing a reply with the other: What do you mean, ‘again’?
Last time you went out at night without me!
Chen Yushu rolled her eyes in exasperation. Of all things to remember, why this? If only she applied that memory to her studies, she wouldn’t have ended up at this university.
Seeing the others focused on their meals, Chen Yushu sped up her eating, only opening Lu Wei’s messages without replying.
What are you doing? Why aren’t you replying?
I get it. You’re annoyed with me, starting to hate me now, right? 😢
How had she never noticed before how clingy this girl could be?
After finishing her meal in a few quick bites, Chen Yushu lowered her head and focused on replying.
“Yushu, what do you think? Yushu?”
“Stop calling her. Can’t you see Chen Yushu is busy chatting? Tsk, tsk, chatting all day, every day morning, night, during class, after class. What could they possibly have to talk about? Even if it’s with a partner, this is too much!”
Snapping back to reality, Chen Yushu looked at them blankly. Hearing Ye Chiwan’s remark, she pressed her lips together and smiled faintly, saying nothing.
In just a short while, Lu Wei’s messages flooded the screen like rapid-fire, taking over the entire display. The speed at which they appeared made it impossible to keep up with her replies.
Ye Chiwan sighed, shaking her head and said, “I get it your body is here, but your heart is elsewhere.”
“Right, is it because we in Room 4008 can’t warm your heart? How dare you think about that wild woman while having a meal with us?”
“Hahahaha, Jiangjiang, you took the words right out of my mouth.”
Chen Yushu was completely overwhelmed, unable to deny it, and could only clasp her hands in surrender.
Jiang Yuran immediately teased, “Is that so? Then put your phone down and ignore her.”
“Huh?” Chen Yushu clutched her phone and glanced at the screen.
Ye Chiwan: “She hesitated! Look at this woman, she hesitated!”
“No!” Chen Yushu quickly denied it. “Lu Wei hasn’t eaten yet. I’m going to buy her some food.”
Ye Chiwan made a face as if she couldn’t bear to watch and waved her hand dismissively. “Go on, go on! I don’t get you and your clingy bestie friendships.”
Jiang Yuran rested her chin in her hand and raised an eyebrow with a subtle expression.
After buying food for Lu Wei, the group got up and headed back to the dorm.
As they turned a corner, they spotted Lu Wei leaning against the wall downstairs of her dorm building, staring intently at a takeout order on the ground. Anyone who didn’t know better might think she was plotting to steal someone else’s meal.
Chen Yushu looked at her, both amused and heartbroken, and unconsciously quickened her pace. “Stop drooling.”
Hearing the voice, Lu Wei turned her head sharply, her eyes bright like a puppy’s. But then, as if remembering something, she composed her expression and gave Chen Yushu a cold, haughty glare. “Where’s my food?”
“Here.” Chen Yushu dangled the food in front of her. “Hurry up and take it back to eat.”
Lu Wei snorted, turning her head away with an air of pride.
Just then, Jiang Yuran and the others passed by and couldn’t help but laugh. “Hahaha, you kindly brought her food, and she doesn’t even appreciate it.”
“Hahahaha, Chen Yushu, so this is your comeuppance!”
Chen Yushu felt her face flush from the teasing and redirected her frustration at Lu Wei. “Are you eating or not? If not, I’m taking it away.”
Lu Wei stretched out a hand to block her path, still acting aloof. “What did you buy?”
“Why don’t you open it and see for yourself?”
Lu Wei tilted her head to look at her, her expression pitiful and aggrieved, but her tone remained stiff. “You eat with me.”
Chen Yushu’s heart softened, and she said gently, “But I’ve already eaten.”
Lu Wei immediately pouted, lowered her head, and kicked at a small pebble by her feet.
“Alright, alright, let’s go over there to eat. Hurry up.”
There were a few stone tables in the small grove to the left of the dorm building. Chen Yushu pulled Lu Wei along, opened the food, and set out the chopsticks practically ready to feed her.
Seeing this, Lu Wei’s mood improved slightly. She tossed her hair back without a care and began eating heartily.
However, despite being extremely hungry, her picky habits hadn’t changed. “There’s celery in here. What’s this? I don’t eat onions.”
“There wasn’t much left when I went to buy it. You should be grateful you have anything to eat.”
“You’re gaslighting me!”
“Then don’t eat.” Chen Yushu made a move to take the food container away.
Lu Wei quickly looked up, trying to stop her with her eyes. Unfortunately, her cheeks were stuffed full, making her look anything but intimidating just adorably round.
Chen Yushu sat across from her, leaned forward, and poked Lu Wei’s cheek with her index finger.
Lu Wei dodged to the side and mumbled through a full mouth, “You eat this celery.”
“Just pick it out if you don’t want it.”
“No, there’s too much. I have nowhere to put it.”
Chen Yushu couldn’t help but click her tongue. “Give me the chopsticks.”
“Ah.” Lu Wei picked up a bite of celery with her chopsticks and made an opening motion with her mouth.
Chen Yushu instinctively glanced around couples everywhere, either feeding each other sweetly or flirting while digesting their meals.
No matter how you looked at it, the two of them stood out like a sore thumb.
“Lu Wei, you’re so annoying.” Chen Yushu leaned over and quickly ate the celery from her hand.
“See? I knew you were getting tired of me.”
“If you know, then behave and stop being so irritating.”
After a couple more bites, Lu Wei looked up again and called out, “Shushu, my hair’s getting in my mouth. Can you help me”
“Am I your mom?” Chen Yushu gritted her teeth, stood up, walked behind her, and gathered her hair together.
“No,” Lu Wei smacked her lips, “you’re my first wife.”
Chen Yushu’s hands, which were tying the hairband, paused for a moment before she replied, “Absolutely not. I don’t deserve such an honor.”
“We already sealed the deal. There’s no backing out now.”
Chen Yushu sat back down beside her. “Who sealed anything with you?”
“In elementary school,” Lu Wei shook her head, “I asked if you wanted to sit with me, and you said yes.”
“Sitting with you means I belong to you?” Chen Yushu smoothed the stray hairs on Lu Wei’s forehead and flicked her lightly. Then she checked the time. “Hurry up and eat. I have class this afternoon.”
“What class?”
“I think it’s Ideology and Morality.”
“I heard you can audit classes in college.”
Before Lu Wei could finish, Chen Yushu already knew what she was scheming and gave her another light flick. “Thinking about skipping class on the very first day of school, huh?”
