How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 25.1
Philandering.
Fickle, frivolous.
As a model student, Chen Yushu firmly believed that a good memory is not as reliable as a bad pen. After writing it down, she closed her little notebook, feeling much more at ease.
Just then, Jiang Yuran sent another message: [I’m not the same person I used to be. My niece’s little tricks can’t escape my eyes now!]
Jiang Yuran: [If you’re ever unsure about something, just ask me. I’ll snap you back to reality in a second!]
Chen Yushu didn’t refuse. [Okay, 🙏 jpg.]
Double insurance very reassuring.
As for this pitiful, unrequited love, whoever wanted it could have it. She certainly didn’t want it anymore.
After a week of classes, they finally made it to the weekend. The dormitory residents slept like the dead, and by the time they woke up, it was already past ten o’clock.
“I take back what I said on the first day of class,” Ye Chiwan said, rubbing her eyes, her face full of drowsiness. “These 8 a.m. classes are inhuman!”
Jiang Yuran let out a satisfied yawn. “Stop complaining. At least we don’t have labs for the next few weeks, or you wouldn’t even have weekends.”
“Ahhh, what kind of living hell is this?”
“By the way, let’s go check out Wutong Road after we eat,” Jiang Yuran suggested. “Club recruitment is today and tomorrow. It should have started by now.”
“Okay.”
[Shushu, are you coming with us?]
Jiang Yuran sent the message to Chen Yushu privately. After thinking for a moment, Chen Yushu replied with an “Okay.”
Since that PE class, Chen Yushu had used lack of time as an excuse to turn down Lu Wei’s invitations to eat together. With their heavy class schedules, their chances to meet had become few and far between.
Truth be told, she still missed him, but thankfully, she could restrain herself.
After eating, the four of them headed to Wutong Road. Sunshades lined both sides of the broad avenue, stretching in a long, seemingly endless row.
Gradually, the crowd grew thicker. As they walked, the four were separated by the flow of people. Fortunately, Jiang Yuran held tightly onto Chen Yushu’s hand, so they didn’t get separated, but the other two were already out of sight.
Chen Yushu opened her phone to ask where they were and saw a message from Lu Wei.
[I’m helping a senior from my dorm with club recruitment. Do you want to come hang out?]
Just then, Jiang Yuran said, “Dawan and Xia Ke are together. They’ve probably gone ahead. Let’s just go by ourselves.”
Hearing this, Chen Yushu hummed in agreement and relayed Lu Wei’s message to Jiang Yuran. “Should we go?”
“Of course! Don’t be scared I’m here with you,” Jiang Yuran said, patting her chest.
“Okay.”
After getting a rough idea of the location, Chen Yushu pulled Jiang Yuran through the crowd until they reached the back of a teaching building.
Jiang Yuran asked, “What club are they in?”
Chen Yushu: “The Youth Volunteers Association.”
While they were still looking around, Lu Wei had already spotted them.
Lu Wei called out, “Senior, my friends are here. I’m going to greet them.”
“Okay.” Jiang Yunxi was organizing flyers in her hands. She glanced up and acknowledged Lu Wei.
The next second, she abruptly lifted her head and looked in a certain direction in the crowd. Her breath caught in her throat.
Where did this sweet girl come from? She’s just too adorable!
Blood rushed to her head all at once. Jiang Yunxi’s ears turned red, and she stared, utterly captivated. But because of her naturally cold and stern features, her expression remained as aloof and detached as ever.
“Senior, can I have a flyer? Senior?”
Jiang Yunxi snapped back to attention and quickly pulled out two flyers to hand over. “Welcome to join the Youth Association.”
“Chen Yushu!” Across the crowd, Lu Wei stretched out her arm and waved, calling her name loudly.
Hearing the voice, Chen Yushu immediately turned her head. Their gazes met, and for a moment, the world fell silent. The moving crowd became like fleeting phantoms at the speed of light silent and formless leaving only the person before her eyes.
The one in her heart, too.
Seeing Lu Wei again felt like a lifetime had passed. She missed her far more than she had realized.
“Ahem, ahem!” Jiang Yuran covered her mouth and quietly reminded her, “What did we say before we came? Get a grip, she hasn’t even done anything yet. How come you’ve already surrendered?”
Right, she hadn’t done anything yet. So why had she.
Chen Yushu lowered her head in shame.
“Let’s go, we’re over there.” Lu Wei approached and pointed in a direction for the two of them.
Jiang Yuran looked up and immediately froze, her eyes wide.
In her heart, several screaming rubber chickens went off at once.
Ahhhh, isn’t this my dream wife!
Ahhhh, sister, I’m yours!
Ahhhh, my destined wife!
Chen Yushu naturally saw it too and immediately felt uneasy. She turned and, sure enough, saw Jiang Yuran staring at the other person with a lovesick expression, her face so flushed that even blush couldn’t cover it.
“Can’t you get a grip!” Chen Yushu quickly turned her aside and whispered through gritted teeth.
Jiang Yuran said firmly, “No!”
Chen Yushu: “…”
“Wahhh, I didn’t expect her to be so good-looking too!” Jiang Yuran clutched her little heart, afraid the fawn inside might leap out. “Shushu, I’ve really fallen in love!”
Chen Yushu: I can tell, her river of love only bathes with good-looking people.
Lu Wei, unaware of what the two were discussing, touched her earlobe in confusion.
“What do I do? What do I do?” Jiang Yuran breathed heavily, her hands tightly gripping Chen Yushu’s arm.
Chen Yushu winced in pain and hissed, “I know you’re really excited right now.”
Jiang Yuran nodded repeatedly. “Mhm, mhm.”
Chen Yushu: “But don’t get excited just yet.”
Jiang Yuran: “…”
“We have to go over now. If she sees you acting like such a lovesick fool and gets scared off, what then?” Chen Yushu reasoned. “At least pretend a little and take it slow.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to whatever Shushu says.” Jiang Yuran switched expressions in a second, speaking in a sweet, affected tone.
That slightly artificial flavor.
Chen Yushu rubbed her forehead, torn between laughter and exasperation. “Tone it down a bit more, and it’ll be perfect.”
Jiang Yuran nodded and gave an OK sign. Chen Yushu turned to Lu Wei and said, “Let’s go.”
Jiang Yunxi patiently finished explaining to the junior who had come for consultation and was about to look up to find that sweet girl when she saw her walking in her direction.
Thump, thump, thump! Her heart instantly raced wildly, almost leaping into her throat, as if several fawns were crashing around in her chest before turning into fireworks that burst inside her skull.
Afraid her gaze might be too intense and she’d be seen as a creep, Jiang Yunxi glanced once, then lowered her head, before lifting her eyes to sneak another look, and another.
“This is Senior Jiang Yunxi I told you about, she’s the vice president of the Youth Association,” Lu Wei introduced.
Jiang Yunxi swiftly glanced at Jiang Yuran before addressing Chen Yushu: “If you’re interested, you can sign up first. We mainly handle volunteer services for the entire school and also participate in public welfare activities in the community.”
While listening to Jiang Yunxi’s explanation, Chen Yushu looked at the flyer in her hand. Just then, she felt someone beside her tug at the hem of her clothes.
“Hmm, how do I join?” Chen Yushu caught on and asked Jiang Yunxi.
Jiang Yunxi took out two sheets of paper. “These are the application forms. There will be an interview afterward, and if you pass, you can officially join.”
Chen Yushu accepted them and handed one to Jiang Yuran, saying, “Thank you, senior.”
Seeing this, Lu Wei also asked Jiang Yunxi for one.
Jiang Yunxi looked at her strangely. “Didn’t you refuse to join before no matter what?”
Chen Yushu’s gaze shifted to her as well.
“I was moved by your explanation, senior,” Lu Wei said with a laugh. “Volunteer service is such a noble cause of course, I should contribute my part.”
Jiang Yunxi replied, “Stop joking around.”
As the flow of people increased, more and more came to inquire. The four of them naturally divided the tasks, significantly reducing the workload.
They continued until mealtime when the crowd gradually dispersed, finally allowing them to rest.
“Thank you all for your hard work. Let me treat you to dinner tonight,” Jiang Yunxi offered.
Lu Wei waved her hand. “No need to be so polite, senior. We can just grab something at the cafeteria.”
At that moment, Chen Yushu felt another tug on her clothes. She turned and looked at Jiang Yuran in surprise, thinking, *How am I supposed to help you with this? Do you want me to shout, “Senior, treat us, treat us! Perhaps understanding the meaning in her eyes, Jiang Yuran lowered her head dejectedly.
Jiang Yunxi insisted, “You’ve been helping me work for free all afternoon. It’s only right that I treat you to a meal.”
Lu Wei said, “In that case, we won’t stand on ceremony.”
Hearing this, Chen Yushu and Jiang Yuran’s eyes lit up. They exchanged a glance and high-fived.
Lu Wei happened to see this and wondered, When did they become so close?
The corners of Lu Wei’s mouth drooped, and a faint sourness rose in her chest. She absentmindedly straightened the flyers in her hand.
After tidying up the materials, the four of them slowly walked toward the school gate.
Lu Wei and Jiang Yunxi walked in front, while Chen Yushu and Jiang Yuran followed behind, each lost in their own thoughts.
“What should I do, Shushu? I feel like she doesn’t seem to like sweet girls,” Jiang Yuran whispered, linking arms with Chen Yushu.
“Is this about being sweet or not?” Chen Yushu leaned in closer. “You’ve only known her for a day no, not even a full day.”
Jiang Yuran whimpered, “But why doesn’t she look at me when she talks? When she talks to you, though. Does she like your type?”
Chen Yushu replied, ” In such a short time, she probably doesn’t like anyone.”
Lu Wei still felt a tightness in her chest. Though she made small talk with Jiang Yunxi, she couldn’t help turning her head back, and each time, she saw the two of them whispering intimately.
Jiang Yunxi tried hard to resist the urge to look back but noticed Lu Wei constantly turning her head. Unable to hold back, she glanced out of the corner of her eye. The person behind her was Chen Yushu, so who was Lu Wei looking at the sweet girl?
Jiang Yunxi thought for a moment and asked, “By the way, who was that friend you mentioned earlier?”
Lu Wei replied, “Chen Yushu, the one who spoke with you.”
“Jiang Yunxi: ‘Oh, her? You two have pretty different personalities.'”
Lu Wei was about to respond when she suddenly grew alert. Why was he asking about Chen Yushu?
Jiang Yunxi hadn’t deliberately hidden his sexual orientation many people knew about it so it was hard for her not to think in that direction. For some reason, she inexplicably felt a sense of old flames rekindling.
Along the way, aside from Chen Yushu, everyone had their own thoughts. In the end, the meal concluded in an oddly delicate atmosphere.
