- Chapter 40 - Dark and Damp Possessiveness
It was not long after Lou Qingshuang had received a temporary marking. Her tenderness toward Liu Yu had reached its peak; every movement and gesture between the two was infused with deep affection.
After a temporary marking, an Omega naturally develops a sense of dependency on their Alpha. The Alpha experiences something similar—an intense surge of possessiveness, even a desperate urge to mark the Omega a second time to keep them confined by their side.
Liu Yu stood beneath a white wall, watching Lou Qingshuang amidst the emerald bamboo leaves. Her gaze was so tender it seemed ready to overflow.
Last night, Liu Yu hadn’t actually intended to perform a temporary marking. She didn’t want Lou Qingshuang to think she was some reckless youngster who couldn’t control herself.
“Just do the temporary marking. After two or three times, the symptoms of the Pheromone Pseudo-Heat Syndrome will be alleviated,” Lou Qingshuang had said, lying on the bed and looking at Liu Yu while drenched in a fine layer of sweat.
Liu Yu’s pheromones, much like the woman herself, were overbearing, seeking to fill every inch of Lou Qingshuang’s being.
Liu Yu’s eyes were like an abyss, pulling her into a sea of desire.
Lou Qingshuang’s gland was scalding; her pheromones had reached their limit. Like a fish out of water, she desperately needed Liu Yu’s pheromones.
Pheromones with a 100% compatibility rate are the easiest to lose control over, yet Liu Yu restrained herself with everything she had. She didn’t want the first temporary marking to leave Lou Qingshuang with a psychological shadow, so she did her absolute best to be gentle.
She was also afraid of scaring Lou Qingshuang away; she knew she would never find another person with such perfect 100% compatibility again.
She leaned down and tentatively kissed Lou Qingshuang. Seeing the tenderness filling Liu Yu’s reddened eyes, Lou Qingshuang slowly closed her own and accepted the kiss.
Lou Qingshuang had added a condition to their contract: neither of them was allowed to fall in love. If either of them grew feelings, the relationship would end. This was to uphold what Liu Yu had said at the very beginning—that she would not fall for her, and Lou Qingshuang would not fall for her either.
Today, Liu Yu had brought Lou Qingshuang to a hot spring villa to soothe her aching muscles.
“Any of the springs here are available for soaking,” Liu Yu said as she led Lou Qingshuang to the private pools, letting her choose.
The steam made the surrounding temperature very comfortable, and the tiles beneath their feet were warm to the touch.
“This one will do. I’ll soak by myself,” Lou Qingshuang said. She didn’t want to walk any further and chose the pool Liu Yu had first brought her to.
“Alright.” Liu Yu glanced around. The pool was small, surrounded by pebbles, with food and drinks provided nearby. After confirming there was nothing else needed, Liu Yu left.
Watching Liu Yu depart, Lou Qingshuang let out a sigh of relief. Currently, their pheromones were extremely reluctant to be separated, which made her subconsciously want to follow Liu Yu. Lou Qingshuang took off her robe and stepped into the water wearing only her nightgown.
The moment she entered the hot water, she let out a sigh of comfort. The soreness in her pheromone gland eased, and she finally regained enough rationality to think about what to do next.
On the other side, Liu Yu opened her phone and awkwardly searched for “how to date” or “how to get along peacefully with an Omega.”
Liu Yu watched a dating blogger explain: “If you want to get along harmoniously with an Omega, you must at least respect them.”
“Alphas nowadays are prone to being arrogant, thinking they’re amazing just because they’re Alphas. Little do they know they’re poor and can’t provide any emotional value. Be careful, or you won’t even be able to find a partner,” the blogger grumbled.
Liu Yu thought for a moment. She wasn’t poor—she had that covered. But what kind of emotional value did Lou Qingshuang need?
She thought for a bit longer and searched for “how to interact during a contract-based rescue.” Finding nothing, she searched for “contract dating.” After some hesitation, she clicked on it. They were both contracts; perhaps it was similar enough?
Liu Yu never fought a battle she wasn’t prepared for, so knowing more would be beneficial for both her and Lou Qingshuang.
While Liu Yu was studying, Lou Qingshuang was sorting through the events of the previous night.
Liu Yu’s pheromones were still continuously soothing her own. The effect of the temporary marking was very obvious; her gland no longer emitted a painful craving for pheromones, and the previously withered gland had recovered significantly.
She would likely have to get through one or two more pseudo-heats.
Last night, she thought the heat had fully arrived, but surprisingly, she returned to normal after Liu Yu marked her once.
“Is this the power of 100% compatibility?” Lou Qingshuang scooped up a handful of warm water and splashed it over her gland, which was now emitting a pleasant scent. This comfort brought her a sense of satisfaction.
Uncharacteristically, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of repulsion toward Liu Yu’s marking.
She still remembered the shock she felt the first time Liu Yu tried to mark her. Back then, she hadn’t responded with any pheromones at all, and Liu Yu had looked as pitiful as a puppy in the rain, looking like she was about to cry.
They had similar rose scents—one cold and sharp, the other warm and intense. It was as if they were a match made in heaven.
The reason Lou Qingshuang didn’t want Liu Yu to stay with her was that she feared the influence of the pheromones would trigger another heat.
Lou Qingshuang looked down at the light red marks on her arm, her face reddening slightly. “It seems… I don’t really hate it.”
Lou Qingshuang had previously asked a doctor if she would feel repelled by a temporary marking if the compatibility was 100%.
“Of course not. At 100% compatibility, that person is practically chosen for you by your genes. Your pheromones recognize them and will accept them,” the doctor had explained.
“Furthermore, it’s been many years since a new 100% match has appeared. The probability is too small. You still need to overcome your psychological barriers. Artificial suppressants will barely work once you reach thirty,” the doctor added earnestly.
“Markings can be removed nowadays. You won’t be led by the nose by an Alpha like people were in the past. You can even counter-control the other party. You have to realize that Alphas become extremely irritable and frantic without an Omega’s pheromones. If all else fails, the hospital has volunteers,” the doctor said with a wink.
Lou Qingshuang understood the hint.
With a splash, Lou Qingshuang scooped up more warm water and submerged herself. The initiative was now in her hands.
Liu Yu studied “contract dating” for half an hour, only to realize it was a web novel. She closed it, feeling speechless.
The two female leads in the novel were also in a contract relationship—a Movie Queen falling for a rising star. The reference value and feasibility were far too low. Perhaps she should ask someone who actually knew how to date.
Liu Yu leaned against the warm pool wall. Her back was still a bit sore from where Lou Qingshuang had scratched her yesterday; she had forgotten to apply medicine.
Yesterday was the first time Liu Yu had ever marked someone. The moment she bit into the gland, the scent of roses exploded in her mouth, making her feel as though she were in a rose garden where she had plucked the most vibrant and beautiful blossom.
Her fangs subconsciously secreted her own concentrated pheromone fluid.
In truth, Liu Yu hadn’t told Lou Qingshuang that this was her first time doing such a thing.
Liu Yu licked her retracted fangs. Fortunately, her technique had been up to par. She hoped Lou Qingshuang was satisfied, as they had to spend the next two years together.
Lou Qingshuang had fallen asleep on the wooden couch by the pool amidst the steam.
When she didn’t come out, Liu Yu knocked on the door, finally waking her.
“Come in,” Lou Qingshuang said, lying sideways on the couch, her voice lazy and husky.
Liu Yu pulled the door open and saw the woman on the couch. Her face was flushed, her eyes misty and languid, and her silhouette was alluring. The moment Lou Qingshuang’s relaxed pheromones encountered Liu Yu, they surged toward her.
This was likely when Liu Yu was most welcomed by the other’s body. Lou Qingshuang’s pheromones actively drew out Liu Yu’s, and the two scents of roses intertwined.
Lou Qingshuang gave her a lazy glance. “Come here.”
Liu Yu knew the heat was starting again. Her throat moved, and her gaze darkened to the extreme, like an abyss wanting nothing more than to drag Lou Qingshuang down.
Liu Yu softly closed the door, deciding that she would just use her own methods in the future—the advice from outside was unreliable.
She walked to Lou Qingshuang’s side, burying her head against her neck while her fingers traced the line of Lou Qingshuang’s spine.
The cold, elegant rose arched her neck and opened her petals.
Liu Yu controlled everything with dominance. She pulled Lou Qingshuang onto her lap, and Lou Qingshuang wrapped her legs around her.
Lou Qingshuang looked at Liu Yu’s face, which had become even more charming when tinged with desire. Her features were sharp and handsome, and her eyes held a trace of madness and dominance. Lou Qingshuang’s toes curled; she had never imagined a day would come when she would do these things with Liu Yu just to treat an illness.
Lou Qingshuang rarely initiated a kiss, because she did not love her.
As Liu Yu’s kisses landed on her neck, Lou Qingshuang stretched her neck upward and hugged Liu Yu.
By the time the pseudo-heat ended, two hours had passed. Lou Qingshuang lay on Liu Yu, slowly calming her physical excitement.
Even though her body was highly stimulated, her mind remained rational throughout.
Liu Yu noticed her rationality. She leaned down and kissed her eyes. She didn’t care whether Lou Qingshuang loved her or not, as long as she was by her side.
Wasn’t that her goal from the beginning?
She had exposed her own scars specifically to make Lou Qingshuang understand her better.
What was hidden in Liu Yu’s eyes wasn’t love, but an ultimate, extreme possessiveness.
Two years was plenty of time for Lou Qingshuang to develop feelings for her.
Besides, whether the “illness” could be cured or not—wasn’t that for her to decide?
Her thoughts were dark, damp, and morbid.
Once Lou Qingshuang had recovered, she got up, took another hot shower, and changed into clean clothes, not giving Liu Yu a single glance.
It was as if nothing had happened between them.
Liu Yu listened to the sound of the running water and went to the adjacent room to wash off the scent of roses.
Once both were cleaned up, they went for a walk in the manor together.
The manor had many scenic spots. In the front, there was a large lake. The lake view was beautiful and the surface was calm. A small boat was moored by the shore for the owner to use for boating or fishing.
Birds were hidden in the surrounding reeds. The two walked along the lakeshore.
“When I was little, I used to come here often to pick reeds. Every time I came, so many birds would fly out from them,” Liu Yu said, looking at the clouds in the sky.
Lou Qingshuang looked at the calm lake, which occasionally rippled under the gentle breeze.
“Then you had quite a lot of fun as a child,” Lou Qingshuang remarked calmly.
Liu Yu’s gaze fell on the ripples, noticing how peaceful Lou Qingshuang seemed now. She stood by her side, silently watching the lake with her and enjoying the breeze.
After a long while, Lou Qingshuang emerged from her quiet state.
She looked at Liu Yu, who was watching her with a smile, and asked, “Liu Yu, why don’t you want to deal with feelings?”
The smile in Liu Yu’s eyes slowly faded at the question. She looked down at the water.
“Because work is very busy. The Liu family is too large; emotions would consume too much of my energy,” Liu Yu explained.
“But you clearly enjoy it when someone gets close to you,” Lou Qingshuang said, hitting the nail on the head regarding her past behavior.
Liu Yu’s eyelashes fluttered. She looked up at Lou Qingshuang. “Being with you is naturally pleasant. My mind can relax.”
“Take me to see other places. There’s nothing much to see here,” Lou Qingshuang said, dropping the subject.
Liu Yu took Lou Qingshuang to her mother’s combined flower room and art studio, which was filled with Liu Wen’s paintings.
“Liu Wen, the famous painter of the Warmth School, was your mother?” This time, Lou Qingshuang was truly shocked.
She loved Liu Wen’s paintings, but unfortunately, Liu Wen had passed away due to illness. Lou Qingshuang subconsciously glanced at Liu Yu; Liu Yu’s eyes were calm but filled with a deep sadness.
It seemed Liu Wen’s death was likely not as simple as just an illness.
