- Chapter 23 - Walking into the Tiger's Den
Liu Yu watched Lou Qingshuang leave and nearly stood up to ask her to stay. Ultimately, she chose to close her eyes and lean back against the sofa, panting softly. The soaring body temperature made her feel miserable.
Listening to Liu Yu’s panting, Lou Qingshuang’s ears turned red. In the end, she braved Liu Yu’s scorching gaze, opened the front door, and walked out of the apartment. The escaping scent of roses clung to Lou Qingshuang’s body longingly.
Lou Qingshuang felt the gland at the back of her neck throbbing, reacting to the stimulation of Liu Yu’s pheromones.
After closing the door, she raised her hand to cover her swollen nape. Her hair was messy and her clothes were completely wrinkled. Standing at the door, she fell into deep thought. “This shouldn’t be happening. The effect of the blocking injection hasn’t worn off yet; how could she smell it?”
Lou Qingshuang rubbed her gland. She felt as though Liu Yu’s pheromones were still stuck to it. It felt strange, yet she didn’t find it repulsive; in fact, she thought it smelled quite good. With a flushed face, she headed toward her own home.
Inside, Liu Yu heard the door close. Her blocked pheromones seemed to scratch at the door dejectedly, wanting to break through the obstacle to be close to Lou Qingshuang.
“Don’t be so pathetic,” Liu Yu muttered, forcefully trying to suppress her pheromones, though they were not very obedient today.
When Lou Qingshuang opened her own front door, the overwhelming scent of pheromones on her startled Shen Qiao, who was watching TV. The powerful, domineering pheromones had completely enveloped Lou Qingshuang.
Seeing Lou Qingshuang with her clothes disheveled and her hand covering her neck, Shen Qiao walked over in a panic. “Shuangshuang?”
Looking at her mother’s worried eyes, Lou Qingshuang lowered her hand. “Mom, I’m fine. I just helped the neighbor next door administer a suppressor injection, and her pheromones got on me. I’m okay.” Under Shen Qiao’s worried gaze, Lou Qingshuang let go and did a quick turn to show she was unharmed.
She pointedly avoided mentioning why her lips were red and swollen. Shen Qiao looked at her lips with concern; as someone who had been through it, she understood exactly what caused that.
“She should have gone to the hospital herself,” Shen Qiao grumbled.
“Her status is special, so it’s not convenient for her to go to the hospital. Don’t worry, Mom, I didn’t lose out on anything.” Thinking of Liu Yu’s face, Lou Qingshuang felt she truly hadn’t been the one at a disadvantage.
Shen Qiao checked her over carefully before feeling relieved. “Then hurry up and take a shower.” Shen Qiao slapped Lou Qingshuang on the shoulder, urging her to wash up.
The auntie who was cooking in the kitchen had already brought out the dishes. Since it was Wu yi’s day off, it was just the mother and daughter.
After showering, Lou Qingshuang changed into a long white dressing gown over a lace nightgown. Her hair was loosely tied up with a few strands hanging down, adding to her beauty and languid air.
Only after cleaning herself thoroughly did Lou Qingshuang feel like she was no longer “marinated” in Liu Yu’s pheromones.
Looking at the food on the table, Lou Qingshuang suddenly remembered that Liu Yu probably hadn’t eaten yet. She held her chopsticks in her mouth, looking at the spread; they couldn’t finish it all anyway, so maybe she should send some to Liu Yu.
Then she reconsidered—surely someone was looking after Liu Yu.
As she picked up food, she thought about how Liu Yu had helped her lure out Shen Yue and assisted Wanshuang in gaining a foothold amidst the storm. It felt wrong to know the other woman hadn’t eaten and not send anything over.
After hesitating for a moment, Lou Qingshuang decided to take a thermal container and pack a portion of every dish. Shen Qiao watched her. “Shuangshuang, what are you doing?”
“The neighbor hasn’t eaten yet, I’m bringing her some food,” Lou Qingshuang said. She packed quite a few meat dishes; during a heat period, one needs plenty of calories.
Shen Qiao watched her daughter gracefully pack four dishes into the lunchbox, ladle a bowl of soup, and seal it carefully. This was far too kind-hearted.
“You aren’t planning to deliver it yourself, are you?” Shen Qiao asked as she saw Lou Qingshuang picking up the container to head out.
“No, I’ll just leave it outside her door.” She had no intention of voluntarily walking into the tiger’s den.
The doorbell rang again. Liu Yu dragged her exhausted body to the door. Upon opening it, she saw Lou Qingshuang standing at her own doorway across the hall, waving at her before hurriedly closing her door and going back inside.
Liu Yu looked down at the thermal container on the ground and smiled. She was quite cute, actually thinking to bring her food.
Liu Yu brought the container inside. She opened it and ate a few bites but soon lost her appetite. She leaned back in her chair, gasping for air as hidden desires churned within her.
Looking at the needle marks on her arm, she realized the suppressors were useless. Her pheromones began to explode outward again. The scent of roses seeped through the door cracks, seeking out that familiar person.
The pheromone overload monitor in the house exceeded its limit and began to sound an alarm. Liu Yu’s eyes turned red as she gradually fell into a state of mania.
The doctor monitoring from below stood up abruptly, saying with panic, “The Chairperson’s pheromones have spiraled out of control.”
“What will happen then?” Liu Yu’s secretary asked immediately.
“She will become extremely aggressive; ordinary people won’t be able to get near her,” the doctor said. She had warned them that this heat period for the Chairperson could not be suppressed.
For high-level Alphas and Omegas, using too many suppressors and blocking injections leads to drug resistance. They need a partner to provide guidance and relief.
“Perhaps… we should find a high-level Omega to help provide temporary comfort for the Chairperson,” the doctor suggested hesitantly.
Every time a heat or rut occurs, Alphas and Omegas suffer greatly, losing their senses like wild beasts. While modern medicine has advanced enough to help them maintain or recover their human logic, the effectiveness of the medicine decreases for high-level individuals.
The secretary felt a lump in her throat. If they really went and asked a high-level Omega to help the Chairperson through this, everyone involved would be in deep trouble. She quickly called Zhu Yan for instructions.
Hearing the secretary’s report, Zhu Yan’s expression turned solemn. Manic heat could cause an Alpha to collapse, which would be extremely harmful to her body.
“I’ll find a way,” Zhu Yan sat in her chair, pondering what to do.
Liu Yu lay on the spot where Lou Qingshuang had previously rested, sniffing the faint, fading scent. Like a wild beast, Liu Yu thought during a brief moment of regained sanity.
Suddenly, there was a click as someone unlocked the door and entered.
“Miss Lou, this is a tranquilizer gun. The dosage is calibrated for the Chairperson’s body and has no side effects. If things get out of hand, use it.” The secretary solemnly handed the tranquilizer gun to Lou Qingshuang.
Lou Qingshuang’s lip twitched as she held the gun. Pheromones were already greedily swirling around her feet from the crack in the door.
Lou Qingshuang realized now that her pheromone compatibility with Liu Yu was incredibly high—so high that Liu Yu could smell her even through the blocking injection. This was unheard of.
“Let me be clear, I might not be able to soothe her.” Lou Qingshuang hadn’t wanted to agree, but Zhu Yan had promised that Liu Yu would handle any future troubles Wanshuang faced, including the issues online.
She only needed to comfort Liu Yu; nothing else was supposed to happen. There would be people stationed at the door to protect her.
Taking a deep breath, Lou Qingshuang opened the door in her nightgown, only to be startled by the person standing right there, staring at her with burning eyes. “Why are you standing here!” she cried out, clutching her chest.
The people behind her recoiled a great distance. Liu Yu’s pheromone pressure was so intense they couldn’t even lift their heads; they were dripping with sweat, feeling as though a predator was staring them down.
Liu Yu glanced at them, and her expression turned warm, as if she had regained her sanity. She smiled and reached out her hand toward Lou Qingshuang.
Seeing the blood-red tint in her eyes and the raw possessiveness, Lou Qingshuang knew she was faking it. A devious Alpha.
However, to soothe Liu Yu, Lou Qingshuang could only nerve herself and place her hand in Liu Yu’s. She was instantly pulled into a firm embrace, and with a loud thud, the front door slammed shut.
The suppressed bodyguards finally wiped their sweat and looked up, everyone breathing a sigh of relief. The Chairperson’s aura was strong enough normally, but with her pheromones fully unleashed, it was truly terrifying.
But there was no time for fear. They quickly put on specialized equipment; if Liu Yu completely lost control, they would rush in to administer a forced sedative.
