Chapter 20: The 20th Day of Being a Tool (Utility Person)
The moment Dazai Osamu fell to the ground, bullets grazed the top of his head immediately, and the crossfire between the two sides was kicked off by this god-sent kick from Hiiragi Eiji.
At this point, Chuuya could no longer stay crouched. He decisively jumped out and resolved the enemies in two or three moves. Because of his suddenly appearing combat power, the people on the opposite side immediately sprouted a desire to retreat. Both sides were dragged all the way to the edge of the abandoned hell like this. Seeing that the winner had been decided, Hiiragi Eiji, who had picked up a handgun from the ground and hurriedly joined the battle, did not forget to look back at the “good son” who had flopped on the ground earlier.
Not looking would have been fine, but looking gave him a shock. He saw that a hostile organization member with an abdominal injury possessed astonishing combat power ignited from who knows where; he was actually holding a gun and walking unsteadily toward Dazai Osamu. After reaching the destination, he was obviously physically exhausted and knelt on the ground.
Hiiragi Eiji, the fallen Dazai Osamu, and the enemy personnel—who was only a step away from the Sanzu River but still stubbornly wanted to make trouble—happened to be standing on a straight line.
The old father was scared out of his wits on the spot. He couldn’t care about the battle behind him at all. Raising his hand, he threw the handgun like a boomerang; the black firearm was thrown by Hiiragi Eiji to spin like a flower, high-speed rotating toward the enemy’s skull.
Who knew, at this moment, his “good son” who didn’t play by the rules created another mess.
He saw Dazai Osamu’s bandage-covered hand actually grab the muzzle of that person’s gun, forcibly pressing the gun against his own head. Just as he was smiling and about to deliver a “black mud” (dark/depressing) declaration, a heart-broken goose-call sound suddenly came from behind him.
“Ahhhhhhh——!”
The next second, Dazai Osamu was hit on the head by an unidentified heavy object. He bumped his head into the wound of the enemy opposite him, sending the other party away directly, while he himself fell into a complete coma.
Thus, when Chuuya finished cleaning up the battlefield and returned to Hiiragi Eiji’s side, what he saw was Hiiragi Eiji sorrowfully half-hugging the unconscious Dazai Osamu.
With a complex expression, Chuuya wanted to start comforting him, but who knew that Hiiragi Eiji preceded him, saying in a pained tone: “……I really am an unqualified—” He paused slightly, swallowing the words “old father,” and changed it to the most versatile answer: “Subordinate.”
Chuuya’s expression, however, was slightly stunned.
The thought that had been lingering in his heart these past few days, appearing and disappearing, popped up once again.
Since this mackerel is so unprincipled and seems like he doesn’t want to pay any attention to Eiji at all—
Two hours later, in Dazai Osamu’s hospital room.
Hiiragi Eiji sat beside Dazai Osamu, carrying a thermos, coaxing Dazai Osamu kindly to let him eat something. As far as he knew, this stinking kid had not been eating properly lately.
Fortunately, his vitality was abnormally strong; after being violently struck this time, he didn’t even get a concussion. Only then did Hiiragi Eiji rush home to boil plain white porridge for him, wanting to pour it down his throat while he was still here, saving him from eating something strange again and messing up his stomach.
However, the usually somewhat normal Dazai Osamu displayed a very abnormal state today.
Specifically, it manifested in ignoring Hiiragi Eiji, cold-treating Hiiragi Eiji, and speaking coldly to him.
If it were the previous Hiiragi Eiji, he would probably be very troubled, but now……
Looking at Dazai Osamu’s little mouth that kept yapping, Hiiragi Eiji scooped up a spoonful of porridge with a bland expression.
And Dazai Osamu, with gauze wrapped around his head, still didn’t know the old father was about to strike, and was still there not closing his mic, “……Eiji, if you are tactless, it will be——” boring, you know.
However, this sentence similar to a threat and warning hadn’t even finished being spoken before Hiiragi Eiji picked up the soup spoon and stuffed the porridge into his mouth with exceptionally precise timing.
The white porridge entering the mouth brought its own sweet taste; the rice grains had been boiled until melted, carrying a thick and dense feeling. The temperature was neither high nor low, just the most suitable temperature.
One bite down, and Dazai Osamu was quiet.
Or rather, his expression had started to show a blank state.
Hiiragi Eiji didn’t care about his resistance in the slightest. The stinking kid who doesn’t know how to eat properly after getting hurt should just shut up and wait to be fed.
After Dazai Osamu was silent for two seconds, he looked at the equally calm Hiiragi Eiji with a steady expression. He tentatively opened his mouth, and the next second, the same method was used.
……He was fed again.
After a few mouthfuls, Dazai Osamu finally felt where it was wrong—Yorozu Eiji’s (Hiiragi Eiji’s) attitude toward him had also undergone a subtle change.
He vaguely had a feeling of numbness, as if heaven itself was against him. Once he raised some secret thought, the only one who would be unlucky would be himself.
“Chuuya, you’re here? Come quickly, look at this three-year-old child who doesn’t listen and doesn’t want to eat.” Hiiragi Eiji said with a serious expression toward the direction of the door.
Dazai Osamu subconsciously turned his head, wanting to open his mouth to counterattack, but who knew, the doorway was empty. What greeted him was Hiiragi Eiji’s flexible arm, extended from who knows where, and a spoonful of white porridge.
Half an hour later, Dazai Osamu lay on the hospital bed with a peaceful face, a trace of a vague, numb smile hanging at the corners of his mouth, eyes closed tightly, not moving.
Hiiragi Eiji scrutinized him carefully, and then—
He calmly reached his hand under Dazai Osamu’s quilt, his warm palm precisely covering his stomach.
He needed more accurate data to see if his own cub had been fed enough.
When Chuuya walked to the door with his phone, he suddenly heard a loud noise from inside the ward. He immediately pulled open the ward door, and then, he was somewhat unable to understand the scene before him.
Because, Dazai Osamu was currently curled into a ball, hiding in the quilt, while Hiiragi Eiji was standing beside the bed with a subtle expression.
Looking at their performance of one being like a quail and the other like an executioner, Chuuya suddenly became calm. After thinking about it, he still asked out of politeness: “What’s wrong with him again?”
Hiiragi Eiji stared thoughtfully at the spherical creature on the hospital bed, “……Hmm, nothing.” It’s probably just the rebellious psychology of the rebellious period.
Thinking of some of the guidelines mentioned in the parenting books he had bought recently, Hiiragi Eiji thought for a while and then pulled Chuuya away.
I heard that children in this period need private space, not the constant input of big principles from parents.
But didn’t expect…… this stinking kid actually had a thin layer of abdominal muscles on his body.
He wasn’t as frail as he had imagined, after all.
After walking out of the hospital, Chuuya and Hiiragi Eiji were both a little distracted facing the night.
One of them was entangled in some unknown deliberation, while the other was criticizing his own unqualified fatherly behavior today—actually brutally striking his son!
“……Are we going back now? Or shall we go to a bar?”
Chuuya thought for a while and asked this way.
Hiiragi Eiji readily agreed.
However, once seated in the bar, Hiiragi Eiji discovered that Chuuya seemed to have something on his mind, because ever since sitting in the bar, he began drinking without a word, as if he were thinking about something, constantly staring at a certain point on the bar counter while lost in thought.
Seeing him like this, Hiiragi Eiji did not go to disturb him, but instead started thinking about his own old-father career.
……What happened today was really too inappropriate!
Thinking of this, Hiiragi Eiji’s mood became somewhat heavy. He, this novice old father, really had too much experience that needed to be accumulated, and he had done too poor a job.
Just as Hiiragi Eiji was habitually reflecting on his own behavior, suddenly, Chuuya beside him placed his glass heavily on the bar counter.
“……I really can’t stand it!” He blurted out this sentence in a gruff voice.
Hiiragi Eiji didn’t even know what had happened yet, until Chuuya’s silk-gloved hand rested on his shoulder; only then did he see Chuuya’s appearance at this moment.
The flushed cheeks made those deep blue eyes appear even brighter.
……This is not thinking about something at all; clearly, his tolerance is too low, and he got himself drunk as soon as he came in.
Hiiragi Eiji felt it was highly absurd that he had made such an inference at the beginning. So, exactly how did Chuuya dare to drink so fiercely?
But the next second, he heard the ginger-haired youth with a taut face say very clearly: “Although I am still direct subordinate to Koyo-nee (Elder Sister), it shouldn’t take long before I become a quasi-executive. Abilities and whatnot…… anyway, you should have seen it all. Treating subordinates and things like that…… will always be the same as these past few days.”
Hiiragi Eiji nodded blankly; he hadn’t reacted at all to what Chuuya meant by saying all this. After thinking, he cautiously congratulated him: “Worthy of Chuuya-sama, bright prospects.”
Who knew that upon hearing his congratulations, he found Chuuya’s expression collapsed for a second.
The ginger-haired youth seemed to have a headache and grabbed his hair a few times. After entering the bar, he finally was willing to take off the fedora that never left his person.
“You guy, you really are dull enough. Having said so much, I am trying to ask you——” He took a deep breath and asked earnestly: “My treatment here will only be better. Do you want to come and be my subordinate?”
At the moment this was said, Hiiragi Eiji received a notification from the system.
[Nakahara Chuuya Favorability +20]
And Chuuya’s eyes brightened at this moment.
The gloom that had been accumulating in his heart all along dissipated with this sentence. It seemed to be telling him that he should have done this a long time ago.
