- Chapter 8 - Giving You My Most Precious Possession
“What is that supposed to mean?” Zhou Yang clenched both of his hands into fists.
Chi Li assumed a look of distress. “Do you not like my gift either?”
Zhou Yang snapped, “Is that even a gift? Is it not pure provocation?”
“You knew, yet you still asked?” As if a light had suddenly been extinguished, Chi Li’s entire expression turned cold. “Are you trying to make me feel awkward?”
“You… I…” Zhou Yang was rendered speechless by his audacity.
“Exactly, stop asking,” Gao Yuan said, stifling a laugh as he stepped forward to play peacemaker. “He kindly gave you a gift. It is one thing to throw it on the floor, but to confront him with such a face is a bit ungrateful, do you not think?”
Zhou Yang remained silent. He wondered how this had become his fault.
“Do not be angry, Junior,” Xie Weishui said, pulling at Zhou Yang’s sleeve. “You two know each other. Perhaps Chi Li just wanted to create some entertainment for the show?”
“Fine,” Zhou Yang said. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “For the show.”
“Oh, you are the one who understands me after all.” Chi Li cast a touched look toward Xie Weishui. “The next gift is for you.”
“Thank you. I believe everyone who comes here does so with the intention of being peaceful.”
Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by a large bag of green tea held up in front of him.
“Large Green Tea,” Chi Li said, giving the gift a simple introduction. “A one hundred percent match for you.”
The smile on Xie Weishui’s face gradually froze.
Despite knowing the hidden meanings of these gifts beforehand, Shen Xunye was now watching with great interest. He played along and asked, “And what does this one mean?”
“It does not mean much,” Chi Li said, tossing the green tea aside. “I am just implying that he is a green tea bitch.”
[Insinuation (X) Blatant Insult (O)]
[He came here purely to wreck the place. Hahaha, I love it.]
[Ever since the green hat was given, the number of online viewers has started to skyrocket. As expected, everyone loves watching a fight.]
[Add one more viewer who came for the drama. I have long been sick of Xie Weishui’s happy family act.]
[The views jumped by nearly a hundred thousand. What on earth are you guys trying to do?]
“How can you be like this?” Jiang Lele immediately stood up for his friend.
Chi Li glanced at him and said in a light tone, “I have not given you your gift yet, have I?”
At the mention of a gift, Jiang Lele’s puffed out chest deflated. He stammered, “Do not think you can bribe me with a gift.”
He had already provoked the three most popular people in the house; surely he would not bother provoking a small fry like him.
“Here, for you.” Chi Li threw a small packet of green tea from the suitcase into Jiang Lele’s arms. “Little Green Tea.”
Jiang Lele looked miserable. He wondered why he had to be provoked too, especially since Gao Yuan’s gift was perfectly normal.
Perhaps because they shared the same fate, the four recipients felt a strange sense of balance in their hearts. This time, they did not even have the energy to ask questions. Asking would only lead to further humiliation. By bringing such items, Chi Li clearly never intended to get along peacefully.
“Alright.” Chi Li closed the suitcase and brushed the dust off his hands. “I am finished giving out gifts. Let the welcome ceremony begin.”
“That is not right. Do I not get a gift?” Wei Xuan, who had been quiet for a long time, could not help but speak up. In hopes of receiving a gift, he had stayed silent even when Xie Weishui was being insulted.
“You,” Chi Li said. He wore a pleasant smile, as if he had anticipated the question. “I wonder if you have heard a certain saying?”
“What is it?” Wei Xuan asked.
“A simp ends up with nothing at the end.” Chi Li spread his empty hands. “If you do not mind, I will give you these two handfuls of air.”
Zhou Yang, who had somehow adjusted his mindset, spoke up. “Why did you go out of your way to ask for an insult?”
After seeing what happened to the others, Wei Xuan still jumped into the trap. Zhou Yang wondered what he was hoping for and if he really thought he was special.
Wei Xuan was speechless. He realized he did not even get a small packet of green tea.
“What are you saying? I did not insult him,” Chi Li said, pretending to be displeased. “But since you applied on his behalf, I will give him one more thing.”
Wei Xuan was a bit dazed. He wondered if another gift was a good thing or a bad thing and whether he should be excited or refuse.
Before he could decide, the gift was presented: a slender middle finger.
“This is an insult,” Chi Li said.
[Such an elegant gesture.]
[Did this gift hit your heart, Wei Xuan?]
[Friendly reminder: Do not ignore his beauty just because of his personality!]
[A wicked beauty? I am drooling.]
[He started a killing spree as soon as he arrived.]
Zhou Yang cleared his throat. Having accidentally baited Wei Xuan into being insulted, he felt a secret sense of satisfaction. “Fine, let us stop bickering.”
Gao Yuan gave him a thumbs up. “What a great temperament.”
The person who was insulted the most was the quickest to forgive. It was interesting.
“I want to bicker,” Shen Xunye said, raising his right hand lazily. “I want a gift too.”
“You are a newcomer; why are you joining the chaos?” Gao Yuan whispered a warning, fearing Chi Li would insult him too. “Can you not tell? He is not someone to be trifled with.”
Shen Xunye ignored the advice and insisted, “I want a gift too.”
“I do not know you, so it is hard to target you,” Chi Li said. He rested his chin on his hand as if deep in thought. “But your face is to my liking. How about this? I will give you my most precious possession.”
“What is it?” Shen Xunye showed an expectant look.
Chi Li pressed both hands to his heart and said sincerely, “My true heart.”
Gao Yuan could not help but exclaim, “Holy shit.”
Following a middle finger with a true heart made for a contrast that was too jarring.
“A real heart?” Shen Xunye stared fixedly at Chi Li. “You are not just teasing me?”
Asking for a gift was a whim of his; it was not part of their plan. He did not expect such an accidental gain.
“We just met; why would I tease you?” Chi Li took an orange from the coffee table and sat down next to Shen Xunye. “I sincerely want to be your friend. Do you not want to develop a sparkling friendship with me?”
Shen Xunye lowered his gaze, watching Chi Li slowly peel the orange. “I do.”
[Why did I hear a hint of disappointment?]
[Just friendship? I am disappointed too.]
[I must say, seeing those two sitting together is wonderful for my eyes.]
[Congratulations on receiving the only other good gift.]
[Everyone, is there potential for this ship?]
[There is too little interaction yet; I suggest we wait and see.]
[He gave his true heart as soon as they met and you are not shipping them yet? I am shipping them already!]
“What is this about a true heart? It is so cheesy,” Zhou Yang said. He found the inexplicably harmonious scene an eyesore.
“Everyone is seated now.” Gao Yuan stood up and stretched. “Let us hurry with the welcome; otherwise, we will not have time to make dinner.”
“Gao Yuan is right,” Xie Weishui said with a forced smile. “Let us begin.”
