He Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Useless Little Disciple, Whose Innermost Thoughts Were Overheard By Demonic Master! - Chapter 19
After Xuan Yue finished changing, he looked Xie Rong up and down. Since the boy often nagged in his heart about his lack of a partner, and now, after being urged to wear such vibrant clothing, Xie Rong had been muttering about the attractive female cultivators in the sect, could it be that Xie Rong was looking for a partner?
The word “disagree” flashed instantly through Xuan Yue’s mind. He did not agree to Xie Rong finding a partner. He had spent his entire fortune raising the boy to this point, and he was not about to give him away to some woman. He still had not figured out the secret to Xie Rong’s ability to suppress the Demonic Bone, so the boy had to remain by his side. Given the vast amount of pills Xie Rong had consumed, his appearance had become extraordinary; he was likely the only one who did not realize how stunning he looked. No one in the cultivation world was worthy of him.
Xuan Yue knew Xie Rong’s tendency to daydream, and seeing him staring blankly at his face, he asked softly, “Do you have someone you like?” If there was no one in his heart, why was he so fixated on matters of love?
Xie Rong was stunned. His thoughts snapped out of their daze, and he looked at Xuan Yue with an expression of pure disbelief. Master is truly something. The only living people on Snow Cloud Peak are us two. Occasionally the Sect Master visits, but I certainly cannot be so rebellious and sacrilegious as to develop feelings for Master or the Sect Master.
Xuan Yue heard this exasperated inner monologue and turned to walk out. “Follow me. Your Grandmaster has arrived.”
Xie Rong hurried to keep up, pulling out his sword with a hint of panic. “Master, you know my fear of heights. Keep an eye on me. If I accidentally fall, you must save me. If you do not, you will lose the little disciple who chats with you and keeps you company.”
Xuan Yue looked at him calmly. “I know. I will not let you fall.”
Reassured, Xie Rong jumped onto his sword. In recent years, Xuan Yue had noticed that Xie Rong’s inner monologue had decreased; as their bond grew closer, the boy simply said whatever was on his mind. Xie Rong kept his flight low, not daring to look down, his body stiff. Xuan Yue chuckled inwardly. A Golden Core cultivator with a fear of heights was a laughingstock, but he could not bring himself to mock him.
The Xuan Tian Sect had eighty-one peaks. Zhong Mobei, the former master of Snow Cloud Peak, had handed the position to Xuan Yue and established his own luxurious dwelling. Xie Rong stared at the estate in disbelief. My god, this is not a cave; this is a small paradise. The spiritual energy is so thick; did he rob a few high-grade ley lines? No wonder Master is so generous. Being rich is a family tradition.
Xuan Yue reached out and tapped Xie Rong on the head. “What are you staring at?” He had once been rich, too, but after raising Xie Rong, his storage ring was cleaner than a polished mirror. He was likely the poorest Mahayana cultivator in existence.
Suddenly, a bright female voice rang out: “Senior Brother, congratulations on reaching the Mahayana stage.”
A woman in green robes flew from the palace and landed before them. Zhong Menghui noticed Xuan Yue first, then Xie Rong. Seeing the boy standing barely a meter away from Xuan Yue, and even clutching his sleeve, she frowned. “Senior Brother, who is this? Why are you letting him stand so close?”
Everyone in the sect knew Xuan Yue’s side was reserved for Zhong Menghui alone. Xie Rong, sensing the hostility, bowed respectfully. “This junior, Xie Rong, greets Aunt Menghui.”
Menghui frowned at the name. “You took another disciple? I disliked all your previous ones, and this one is even more irritating. Your name is not pleasant, and you are only at the Golden Core stage. What are your spiritual roots?”
When Xie Rong truthfully replied that he had three-system roots, Menghui scoffed. “Senior Brother, how could you accept such trash?”
Xuan Yue’s face turned cold. “Xie Rong is my true disciple and my last one. I hope you will not mock him.”
Menghui was stunned. Xuan Yue had never defended his other disciples. Her instincts told her that Xie Rong occupied a place in his heart that the others never had. She glared at the boy, convinced that Xie Rong must have used some sordid trick to win Xuan Yue’s favor. Xie Rong, feeling the venomous glare, thought: This Aunt is truly difficult. I have done nothing to provoke her, yet she glares at me before Master. The Sect Master was right; she is temperamental and vicious. I must heed Master’s advice and stay away.
Xuan Yue led Xie Rong to the hall, ignoring Menghui entirely. When she saw Xie Rong walking right behind Xuan Yue, her pupils shrank in disbelief. She knew better than anyone that Xuan Yue kept a spiritual barrier within half a meter of himself. No one could get near him, yet this boy walked right in his footsteps. She gritted her teeth in rage.
On the stairs, Xie Rong was distracted by a lotus pond, recognizing the lotus seeds as treasures worth a million spirit stones each. He tripped, stumbling forward. It is over. I am going to face-plant and shame Master.
He squeezed his eyes shut, but hit no ground. Xuan Yue had caught him. Xie Rong patted his chest in relief and tugged at Xuan Yue’s sleeve. “Thank you, Master.”
Xuan Yue sighed. “Watch where you are walking.” He had raised the boy with the finest resources, so why was he still acting like a country bumpkin?
Menghui, watching from behind, trembled with rage. How dare he touch Master Xuan Yue with those filthy hands.
Zhong Mobei, watching from the shadows, sent a telepathic warning to Menghui: Stop making a fool of yourself.
Menghui calmed herself, but she could not help but glare at Xie Rong again. It must be a trick. Xuan Yue is only pitying him.
Zhong Mobei examined Xie Rong. Determining the boy was indeed trash, he turned to Xuan Yue. “This is your new disciple? A final disciple? How absurd.”
“The disciples of Snow Cloud Peak were dwindling,” Xuan Yue replied coldly. “I took him in because he was pleasing to the eye. I do not want any more disciples, so I took him as my final one.”
Xie Rong felt a strange sensation, as if his Master’s salute to the Grandmaster was perfunctory. So I am the final disciple. Does that mean I am responsible for his funeral rites? It is a pity Master does not need such a thing. Perhaps he will look this young forever. If we walked down the street together, people would think he was my uncle. If I grow old and ugly, will he despise me?
Xie Rong felt a flash of sorrow, but quickly braced himself. He had extended his life by eight hundred years; he would not be old for a long, long time.
Mobei continued to lecture Xuan Yue on cultivation, to which Xuan Yue replied briefly. Xie Rong watched his Master, pondering: Am I sensing this wrong? It feels like Master is impatient with the Grandmaster.
Xuan Yue noticed Xie Rong’s silent observation. He was always cold to everyone, yet Xie Rong could accurately sense the difference between his indifference and his true annoyance.
Mobei gestured for a disciple to bring out a tray containing a defensive relic and a bottle of pills. Xie Rong accepted the gifts with a silent sigh. The Grandmaster truly dislikes me. These gifts are just whatever the servants grabbed from the back hall. Thankfully, Master does not visit often, or I would become depressed from the Grandmaster’s stern face. Why does he treat Master like a child? He is six thousand years old, not six! Master is so socially awkward, and the Grandmaster is incapable of making small talk. It is a miracle they can even stay in the same room.
