He, The Scumbag, Has Turned Over A New Leaf. - Chapter 2
Ivan turned around warily, only to see Tuovis lunge at him uncontrollably, the female insect’s powerful hand already inches away.
Ivan was shocked. In his desperation, he subconsciously dodged and pushed Tuovis away. There was a loud thud as Tuovis fell to the ground.
Collecting his thoughts, Ivan blinked, realizing that Tuovis had not been trying to attack him. Rather, blood circulation had been cut off, causing Tuovis’s legs to go numb and causing him to fall.
Seeing Tuovis sitting on the floor, Ivan secretly felt annoyed. Such a perfect opportunity to build rapport and increase intimacy had been squandered by him. Looking at his own hands that had pushed Tuovis away, Ivan sighed inwardly, wondering why his hands had to be so clumsy.
As Ivan reflected on his actions, Tuovis, having recovered slightly, quickly knelt on the floor to match the posture.
“Master, please forgive me! I did not mean it!”
Tuovis knelt on the ground, bowing low, his demeanor humble and fearful to the extreme.
Ivan fastened the drawstring of his sweatpants, which had nearly been pulled down by Tuovis earlier, and sighed silently. He bent over and pulled up Tuovis’s hands, which were crossed and pressed against the floor.
“Get up!”
Ivan’s voice held a note of command, and he exerted a little force.
Tuovis, who was terrified, finally obeyed and stood up.
At the moment he looked up, Tuovis’s nervous, darting eyes met Ivan’s sincere and serious gaze. The suspicion and confusion in his heart seemed to dissipate somewhat at that moment.
Seeing that Tuovis was no longer trembling, Ivan turned and led the scarred female insect slowly out of the confinement room.
When he saw the clear sky and soft white clouds outside once again, Ivan exhaled a long breath. Step one of transmigrating into the book: rescue the brutally beaten female insect from the fiery pit. He was now a little further away from death!
From the confinement room to the living room entrance, Ivan did not speak, and Tuovis naturally would not take the initiative to open his mouth. The distance was covered in complete silence between the two insects.
“There is a recovery room on the first floor. Go and get some treatment.”
Arriving at the villa lobby, Ivan added Tuovis’s identity information to Xiao Yi’s access settings.
Tuovis followed behind Ivan and naturally witnessed this scene. However, he clearly could not understand Ivan’s behavior at this moment. How could the male insect who had previously loathed him so much suddenly hand over the villa’s access privileges?
Although this was a treatment Tuovis should enjoy as Ivan’s Lord Consort, Tuovis did not think he could ever receive such a privilege.
His habit of being taciturn for many years kept him from asking. His wounds were painful; although female insects had strong recovery abilities and the wounds should have healed long ago, they were still bleeding profusely. Because he knew the male insect’s vicious nature and wore an inhibitor collar around his neck, Tuovis had deliberately delayed the healing of the wounds.
Ivan’s behavior left him completely bewildered.
“Alright, it is right here.” Ivan finished programming Xiao Yi and led Tuovis to the recovery room door. Leaving space for Tuovis, Ivan turned and walked away.
Tuovis stood outside the door, staring at Ivan’s retreating back, his eyes darkening until Ivan disappeared to the second floor, at which point he entered the recovery room.
“Young Master?” Lotte was pruning the potted plants in the second-floor hallway when he saw Ivan bring Tuovis out of the confinement room through the window. However, seeing only Ivan, he could not help but worry about Tuovis’s whereabouts.
Ivan smiled. “Uncle Lotte, please tidy up the guest room on the first floor for Tuovis and Arie.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Although Lotte was full of confusion, he understood this male insect who seemed harmless on the surface but had an uncompromising temperament, so he asked no more, put down his scissors, and went downstairs to tidy the room.
Ivan returned to his own room and logged onto the Star Net, eager to understand the current world.
Downstairs, after Tuovis used the recovery pod to heal his wounds, he bumped into Lotte upon stepping out.
Because he had been punished and sent to the confinement room on his wedding night, Tuovis did not know who this insect was. Based on the pheromones, physique, and appearance, he only knew that this insect was a female insect. Tuovis became secretly guarded.
Lotte smiled and said respectfully, “Lord Consort, the Young Master asked me to tidy up the first-floor room for you and your brother. You will live here from now on. Please wait a moment.”
As soon as Lotte finished explaining and began to tidy the room, Tuovis frowned slightly and asked, “He brought Arie back? Where is Arie?”
“Of course, little Master Arie is in the screening room.”
Having received the answer, Tuovis, led by Lotte, arrived at the innermost room on the right side of the first floor and pushed the door open impatiently.
Inside the large screening room, it was empty. In the center sat a comfortable, massive leather sofa. Little Arie was curled up on the sofa, staring intently at the movie screen.
Having not seen his brother for three days, Tuovis finally set his heart at ease upon seeing Arie safe and sound.
Arie, who had been completely absorbed in a mecha battle, looked over alertly at the sound of the door opening. Seeing his brother, who had vanished for three days, standing at the door, his eyes widened instantly.
“Brother!”
He slid off the sofa and happily lunged toward Tuovis, who was standing by the door.
Tuovis’s tense face revealed a smile as he squatted down to hug the little golden ball. He released soothing pheromones to comfort the child’s uneasy heart. Hugging Arie with one hand, he turned to thank Lotte.
Lotte understood and took his leave. “Lord Consort, I will go tidy your room.”
Tuovis nodded, then closed the door to examine Arie carefully.
Sitting on the sofa, Tuovis went over Arie. “Arie, tell brother, has anyone bullied you these past few days?”
He had been suddenly dismissed and arrested on the day he was training at the military department. Fortunately or unfortunately, he had only been locked up for two days before being forcibly matched by the system, becoming Ivan’s Lord Consort and moving into the Tushio family residence.
The incident was sudden, and he could not take care of Arie, nor did he know anything about the outside world.
On his wedding night, he had begged Ivan to bring Arie back to be cared for, not thinking that he would enrage him. Not only was he beaten, but he was also locked up for three days.
Unexpectedly, things had taken a turn for the better; the moment he got out, he saw Arie.
Tuovis’s heart, which was always filled with fear, finally settled down.
Arie did not understand the complexities between adult insects; he answered whatever his brother asked.
Curled in Tuovis’s arms, he spoke softly, “Well, I was at school, and a strange big brother came to pick me up. The big brother was very handsome, but you told me never to go with insects I did not know, so I said I was waiting for you. But the big brother said he was just taking me to see you, so I followed him.”
Hearing this, Tuovis understood the general situation. He stroked Arie’s soft golden hair and educated him: “Arie, remember from now on, even if someone says they are taking you to see me, never go with an insect you do not know, understand?”
“Mm! I know!” Arie’s excitement was visible. He buried his head in Tuovis’s neck and said happily, “Brother, I missed you so much. Where did you go?”
Tuovis’s eyes were gentle. “Brother missed you too. I suddenly had a mission, so I was away for a few days.”
“Mm, then if you have a mission in the future, you must tell Arie in advance, okay?”
“Mm, okay.”
The atmosphere downstairs was quiet and beautiful, while upstairs, Ivan was using the Star Net to find a job, but he was encountering difficulties.
Although the Tushio family was one of the four great noble families of Haley Star, by Ivan’s generation, it had already weakened. Especially after Ivan’s parents passed away, the Tushio family was nothing but an empty shell under Ivan’s ignorance, idleness, and squandering of money.
While striving to keep his life, Ivan naturally wanted to find a job or make some investments to avoid sitting idly by and eating away his fortune. He had not expected to encounter obstacles at the very first step.
When he registered and sent job applications, recruiters would sneer and mock him as soon as they saw his gender listed as male insect in his profile, including but not limited to:
“What kind of interstellar joke is this? A male insect applying for a job?”
“Excuse me, Lord female insect with a gloomy, sullen, and twisted personality, are you so desperate for a male insect that you have become senile?”
“We do not hire insects with gender identity disorders!”
Ivan was completely speechless. He would explain at the beginning, but no one wanted to listen, so he simply stopped explaining. He had submitted his resume to a dozen places, but not a single one was willing to have a serious conversation with him.
Ivan wanted to cry, but he did not speak.
Slap!
Ivan threw his light-brain, stood up from his chair, and went downstairs expressionlessly. It was time for dinner.
For the first time since Ivan’s parents passed away, the dinner table was so lively.
At a rectangular white dining table, Ivan sat in the main seat. To his right was Tuovis, and beside Tuovis was a raised high chair specially prepared for Arie. On his left was Lotte.
On ordinary days, Ivan would be out having fun with his friends, often not eating at home. Lotte rarely sat at the same table as Ivan, basically handling his meals in the kitchen.
Today, all the insects were present, so at Ivan’s instruction, everyone took their seats.
The atmosphere was rather oppressive. Ivan picked up his chopsticks and took the initiative. “Eat.”
Only then did the others start using their chopsticks.
Arie, having the nature of a young larva, stared at the many delicacies on the table he had never seen before and was already impatient. He widened his eyes and pointed excitedly at a piece of meat he did not recognize in front of him. “Brother, I want to eat this!”
Tuovis naturally obliged, placing a chopstick of meat into Arie’s bowl, and incidentally adding a few more chopsticks of vegetables.
Star resource land was tight, and there was very little soil on the Insect Planet capable of growing vegetables. Although it could be grown without soil, the taste was always much worse than pure natural produce. Although the Tushio family had fallen on hard times, the fact that they could have so many fresh vegetables for a single lunch showed that a starving camel is still bigger than a horse.
Tuovis added plenty for Arie quickly but unobtrusively, piling his small bowl to the brim.
Ivan ate these meals, which were very common and unremarkable in the modern world, inattentively, while his mind was preoccupied with how to find a job.
Workers and their working spirits—even when he reached the Insect Planet, he still had to work hard.
Modern jewelry technology seemed to be of no use at all in an interstellar era where mechas were rampant and wars were constant.
Ivan was worried, while Lotte and Tuovis were eating their meal quietly. For a time, only Arie’s occasional exclamations of praise could be heard at the dinner table.
Ding-dong!
A doorbell broke the tranquil atmosphere.
Before Lotte could go to open the door, Xiao Yi’s robotic voice sounded. “Greatest handsome insect in the universe! Ess is visiting, Ess is entering!”
Hearing this form of address, Ivan felt a momentary sense of social death; hearing this name, Ivan felt a lingering headache.
Before the insects could react, one of Ivan’s former friends, a male insect named Ess with red-dyed hair, walked in swaggeringly with two invitations in his hand.
