- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 90 - Are You an Idiot?
Seeing her turn her head away in pain, Lu Tingzhou felt as if countless needles were piercing his heart.
He didn’t want to pressure her. The sudden recollection of the past was far more agonizing than hearing about it from someone else.
That scene… every time he recalled it, he was overwhelmed with despair. How much worse must it be for Sang Wan?
He slowly stood up and walked out of the hospital room, sitting down in the corridor outside.
After Lu Tingzhou left, Sang Wan snapped back to reality. Her pale hand trembled as she reached toward her lower abdomen.
The baby…
Her babies…
Qi Qi, standing nearby, quickly stepped forward. “The babies are fine. Don’t worry.”
“Does he know?”
“The doctor didn’t tell him.”
Sang Wan stared blankly at the ceiling, her dizziness and headache intensifying.
Lu Tingzhou sat outside the door all night. He didn’t go in to disturb her, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave either.
Early the next morning, Song Ze arrived and found him slumped dejectedly by the door, his expression darkening.
“The concussion isn’t serious. Don’t worry.”
“She remembered the past,” Lu Tingzhou said, his voice shaking. “Do you think she’ll ever accept me again?”
Song Ze froze for a moment before patting his shoulder. “Don’t be so pessimistic. She just remembered, it doesn’t mean she just found out. Give her some time to process it. She’ll come around.”
Lu Tingzhou had no confidence. Having lost her once, he was terrified of losing her again.
“I’ll go check on her. Don’t overthink it.”
When Song Ze pushed the door open, Qi Qi and Qu You had already helped Sang Wan freshen up, and she was about to have breakfast.
“How are you feeling?”
Song Ze pressed his lips together as he looked at Sang Wan, pulling up a chair beside her.
“A little dizzy, but otherwise fine.”
“Since you’re pregnant, we can’t give you any strong medication, so you’ll have to endure these symptoms for now.”
Sang Wan blinked. “Thank you. Please don’t tell him yet.”
The baby was fine. Qi Qi had asked Qu You to inform the doctor to keep it confidential for now.
After all, Sang Wan had wanted to surprise Lu Tingzhou.
Besides, such joyous news was best delivered by her personally.
“Sang Wan, the truth is, Tingzhou suffered just as much back then,” Song Ze sighed, his voice tinged with sorrow. “After you returned, he was unconscious in Jing City for a week. The moment he woke up, he came looking for you. But you weren’t home, he waited outside your door for days, and no one came.”
“He called you, but you’d changed your number. He passed by you on the street, and you didn’t even glance at him. When he called out to you, you said you didn’t know him.”
“He asked me to keep an eye on you and found out you were taking melatonin. He had Qu You take you to a psychologist, where he learned you had post-traumatic stress disorder and partial memory loss.”
Song Ze paused to look at her. “Now that your memories have returned, I don’t need to defend him. I just want to tell you the things you didn’t know.”
Sang Wan’s voice was hoarse. “Go on. I want to hear it. If you don’t tell me, he certainly won’t, given his personality.”
Song Ze pressed his lips together. “He loves you deeply. No other man could have done what he did. After you lost your memory, he silently watched over you, seeing you grow happier and healthier day by day. Only then did he take on his responsibilities while choosing not to disrupt your life, as long as you were happy.”
“But because he was still worried, he asked me to keep an eye on you. When you entered the entertainment industry, he arranged for Bai Wei to mentor you, exclusively and wholeheartedly, while secretly providing you with resources. Every now and then, he’d come back to check on you, living right across from you, yet never daring to let you know of his presence.”
Hearing this, Sang Wan was stunned. The other details didn’t surprise her much, but the fact that he had been living across from her all this time, this was…
Suddenly, she remembered countless nights when she had seen a man leaning on his balcony, smoking, his lonely silhouette tugging at her heartstrings.
So, it was him. No wonder he had felt familiar.
Tears welled up in Sang Wan’s eyes again, her chest heavy with emotion.
“I’m telling you all this because I believe you deserve to know the whole story. Tingzhou never had much warmth growing up at home, so he’s stubborn by nature, once he sets his mind on something, he won’t change. If your family hadn’t encountered misfortune and you hadn’t approached him first, he would have willingly watched you find happiness from afar for the rest of his life.”
“Because deep down, he blames himself. After all, your mother was the one who crashed into his car.”
Song Ze stood up, looking somewhat remorseful. “I know I’ve dumped a lot on you all at once, I got carried away. For now, just focus on resting and recovering. The twins will need plenty of nourishment.”
Sang Wan wiped the tears from her face. “Thank you.”
Beyond those two words, she didn’t know what else to say.
As Song Ze left, Qi Qi gently patted Sang Wan’s hand. “Sister Wan, don’t overthink it for now. Try to get some sleep.”
But sleep was the last thing on Sang Wan’s mind. Over the years, she had forgotten, lived lightly, though there had been hardships, her heart had remained unburdened.
Yet Lu Tingzhou had silently shouldered so much alone, watching her from a distance, never daring to step forward, never daring to get close…
It seemed even more unfair to him.
Outside, Song Ze patted Lu Tingzhou’s shoulder. “Give her some time. She’ll come around.”
Lu Tingzhou nodded, leaning back in his chair and closing his eyes, though sleep eluded him.
When Lin Hao arrived and saw him like this, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. He was about to leave when Lu Tingzhou called him back.
“Any updates? Is the old man alright?”
“The truck driver hasn’t been found yet, but the old man has been settled. Liu Zhiqiang admitted he tried to blackmail Miss Sang to pay off his son’s gambling debts.”
Lu Tingzhou pinched the bridge of his nose. “Hand him over to the police and let them investigate. This isn’t as simple as it seems. If it were just Liu Zhiqiang acting alone, he could’ve simply asked Sang Wan for help.”
Lin Hao nodded. “Miss Sang has always treated him well. She wouldn’t have refused if he’d asked.”
“Find out who he’s been in contact with. We can’t rely solely on the police.”
“Understood. I’ve already assigned people to look into it.”
“Also, check if Song Xinran and Sun Meixi had any contact before or after the incident yesterday.”
Lu Tingzhou had a nagging feeling it was too much of a coincidence, just yesterday afternoon, Song Xinran had brought Kaikai to see him.
“President Lu, early this morning, Sister Bai Wei called. There are some compromising photos of Miss Sang circulating online.”
Lin Hao held out his phone, and Lu Tingzhou’s blood boiled instantly.
In the photos, Sang Wan’s eyes were closed, her collar slightly undone, her cleavage teasingly visible. The setting appeared to be inside a car.
Netizens had left comments calling her vulgar, mocking her for taking such photos in a car “so pure on the outside, yet so wild in private.”
Seeing Lu Tingzhou’s clenched fists, Lin Hao lowered his voice. “We’ve already taken care of it. The IP is overseas, but we’re tracking it down.”
When Lu Tingzhou heard the mention of overseas, he recalled that a foreign account had previously sent him an email. He took out his phone to check.
“Look into this as well, see if it’s the same person.”
Lin Hao glanced at the screenshot Lu Tingzhou had sent him and nodded. “I’ll check right away.”
He was about to leave but couldn’t help but offer some advice upon seeing Lu Tingzhou’s state. “President Lu, you should really get some rest. If Miss Sang saw you like this, she’d be worried too.”
Lu Tingzhou closed his eyes and waved his hand dismissively. “Go do your job. I won’t be at the company these next few days. Be careful and watch out for my second brother.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll hold the fort while you’re gone.” Seeing that his words had no effect, Lin Hao could only reassure him before leaving.
Su Mo had been busy with her studio’s renovations and only heard about the situation this morning.
When she saw Lu Tingzhou sitting at the entrance, looking utterly exhausted, she froze in her tracks.
“President Lu, why aren’t you going inside?”
Lu Tingzhou frowned. Every passerby was giving him odd looks, and he had never felt so disheveled before.
“Go in and see her.”
Hearing his hoarse voice, Su Mo’s heart clenched. What had happened to Lu Tingzhou?
Didn’t Qi Qi say there wasn’t anything seriously wrong?
Full of suspicion, she walked in and saw Sang Wan eating.
“Why are you here too? I’m fine now.”
Unaware of the situation, Su Mo asked, “What’s wrong with Lu Tingzhou? Why is he sitting outside?”
Sang Wan paused for a moment, then lowered her head and continued sipping her chicken soup without answering.
Su Mo glanced at Qi Qi for an explanation.
Qi Qi raised an eyebrow, and Su Mo pressed her lips together, shaking her head slightly.
…
By the afternoon, there was a commotion outside the door.
“Tingzhou, why do you look so terrible? And why are you shaking so badly, do you have a fever?”
Shen Yubai’s voice broke the quiet outside the VIP ward.
Sang Wan was still feeling dizzy, lying in bed as memories of her past with Lu Tingzhou played through her mind like a film reel.
She wasn’t actually angry at him, it was just that recalling the scene from before had been too much to process at once.
She needed time to come to terms with it.
Now, hearing Shen Yubai’s voice, her heart ached. She wondered if Lu Tingzhou had eaten anything, he had been there since yesterday afternoon, a full day and night.
“Qi Qi, go see what’s going on.”
Qi Qi set down the apple she was peeling and hurried out.
Seeing Lu Tingzhou in poor condition, she quickly spoke up. “President Shen, there’s a sofa inside the ward. Help President Lu in to lie down, I’ll go call a doctor.”
Shen Yubai nodded and immediately supported Lu Tingzhou into the room.
“Beautiful Sang, this guy’s about to collapse. Was he sitting outside because he didn’t want you to see him and worry?”
Shen Yubai was the type who could sweet-talk anyone. Before arriving, he had already called Song Ze.
Once inside, Lu Tingzhou fixed his gaze on Sang Wan, his eyes filled with remorse.
Sang Wan had never seen Lu Tingzhou look so pitiful before.
The man who was always composed and dignified now appeared so vulnerable, and it struck a deep chord in her heart.
“Wanwan…”
His dry voice carried a fragile tone.
“Check his temperature quickly.”
Just as Sang Wan tried to sit up, a wave of dizziness hit her.
“Don’t move.”
Lu Tingzhou stopped her, wanting to step forward, but Shen Yubai held him back. “Go lie down first. Don’t make Sang Wan worry.”
Su Mo helped Sang Wan settle back down, soothing her. “Don’t stress. Qi Qi’s already gone to get the doctor.”
The moment Lu Tingzhou lay down, Song Ze pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing Lu Tingzhou already lying on the sofa with a furrowed brow, Shen Yubai glared at him. “So fragile?”
“Try sitting outside in the cold without eating or drinking for a whole day and night,” he emphasized the words “without eating or drinking” heavily.
But it clearly worked. Sang Wan’s heart clenched when she heard this, and she tilted her head to look at Lu Tingzhou, her eyes filled with concern.
Had this man not slept at all last night, just sitting outside the door?
Lu Tingzhou, are you an idiot?
Song Ze walked over to Lu Tingzhou, handed him a thermometer, and then reached out to feel his forehead. His lips moved slightly, but he didn’t say anything. Instead, he shot Shen Yubai a sharp glare.
“I’ll go get him some medicine and bring a blanket while I’m at it.”
As he reached the door, he also pulled back the doctor Qi Qi had called over.
“I’ll take care of it. You go do your own thing.”
The doctor, recognizing Song Ze, immediately nodded. “With Dr. Song here, there’s no need for me at all.”
