- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 81 - Biological Father
Song Xinran was seething with jealousy, never expecting Sun Meixi to outright tell her to leave.
“Mrs. Lu, I-”
Song Xinran was reluctant.
Sun Meixi shot her a sharp glare. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Sang Wan frowned. The two of them had been perfectly cordial just moments ago, yet now Sun Meixi was turning hostile. What did she want to say that required driving Song Xinran away?
Grudgingly, Song Xinran left.
Once the private room’s door closed, before Sang Wan could react, Sun Meixi flung a glass of red wine directly into her face.
“You’re just as shameless as your mother, getting pregnant before marriage.”
Before Sang Wan could even process the wine dripping down her face, Sun Meixi’s mention of her mother made her realize something.
Ignoring the wine thrown at her, she demanded, “You knew my mother?”
Sun Meixi bit her lip, her smile twisted. “I’d recognize her even if she turned to ashes. If it weren’t for your mother, how could Lu Tingyuan and I have ended up like this?”
“Do you know where Lu Tingyuan is now?”
Sang Wan’s heart clenched, an inexplicable dread rising at what was about to come.
“Lu Tingzhou said he’s recuperating abroad.”
“Recuperating? Well, I suppose abandoning worldly affairs to live among ancient temples and Buddha statues could be considered a form of recuperation.”
Sang Wan never imagined that the eldest son of the Lu family, Lu Tingzhou’s older brother, had actually become a monk!
She stared at Sun Meixi, completely disregarding her own disheveled state.
“Why?”
She had a vague feeling this was connected to her mother, otherwise, Sun Meixi wouldn’t have any reason to hate her so much.
“Because the person he loved died, and he no longer had any ties to this world.”
With that, Sun Meixi burst into laughter, tears streaming from the corners of her eyes.
“Isn’t it ridiculous? In this day and age, there are still men so infatuated.”
After her fit of laughter, Sun Meixi glared at Sang Wan through gritted teeth. “You and your mother served the two brothers, were you trying to create some modern-day legend?”
Sang Wan’s spine stiffened instantly, her fingers trembling uncontrollably as a chill spread from the depths of her heart.
Seeing her stunned expression, Sun Meixi felt a twisted satisfaction. Sang Jingchu, you ruined my life, so I’ll drag your daughter down to hell with me. Who told her to be so shameless as to entangle herself with the Lu men?
After a brief silence, Sun Meixi’s voice, thick with hatred, spoke again. “Sang Wan, Xu Shiming isn’t your biological father. Don’t you want to know whose seed you really are?”
Sang Wan suddenly understood and reflexively blurted, “Stop talking. I have things to do, I’m leaving.”
Sun Meixi smirked, raising a hand to block her path. “You’re the product of an affair between Sang Jingchu and Lu Tingyuan. If it weren’t for him accompanying your mother to her prenatal checkups after learning she was pregnant, I wouldn’t have been so enraged that I miscarried. Otherwise, my daughter would be your age, she was already six months along at the time.”
By now, Sang Wan was trembling all over. As she watched Sun Meixi’s lips move, she didn’t hear another word.
She was Lu Tingyuan’s daughter. Her biological father… was Lu Tingzhou’s older brother.
How could that be? No, no…
She pushed Sun Meixi aside and stumbled out of the restaurant. Qi Qi, seeing her in such a state, assumed Sun Meixi had humiliated her into anger.
Once in the car, Sang Wan remained dazed for a long time.
When the car stopped, she only snapped back to reality upon realizing they were at Lu Tingzhou’s villa. Hurriedly, she said, “Take me to your place.”
Qi Qi was stunned for a moment. Seeing that Sang Wan was visibly upset, she thought going home might be best, at least her mother could offer some comfort.
Xue Min was at home binge-watching a drama when, to her surprise, the very person from the TV show walked through the door.
“Hey, I was just watching your show! What brings you here now? Have you eaten?”
Qi Qi shot her mother a meaningful look. Xue Min immediately noticed something was off with Sang Wan, her face was deathly pale, devoid of any color.
“Wanwan, what’s wrong?”
Xue Min pulled her down to sit, gasping slightly when she felt how icy Sang Wan’s hands were. She began rubbing them vigorously. “What’s the matter, child? You can tell Aunt Xue anything.”
The emotions Sang Wan had been holding back the entire way finally unraveled, and tears spilled down her cheeks in an instant. She broke into uncontrollable sobs.
Xue Min was so startled she didn’t know what to do. She looked up at her daughter in alarm. “What happened?”
“We had dinner with Sun Meixi, and she’s been like this ever since… hasn’t said a word.”
Xue Min wiped Sang Wan’s tears while soothing her. “Wanwan, whatever’s bothering you, say it out loud. Don’t keep it bottled up.”
After crying for a while, Sang Wan gradually calmed down. She took a deep breath, gathering her courage before speaking.
“Aunt Xue… was my mom very close to Lu Tingyuan?”
The question caught Xue Min off guard, but she nodded after a pause. “They knew each other. They were alumni once.”
Then, realizing the implication, Xue Min’s eyes widened. “Wanwan… are you suspecting he might be your biological father?”
The moment the words left her mouth, Qi Qi looked as if she’d been struck by lightning. Panicked, she blurted out, “Lu Tingzhou’s older brother?”
Xue Min instinctively shook her head. “No, that can’t be. Lu Tingyuan got married not long after he returned. After that, your mother never mentioned him to me again.”
Sang Wan’s doubts only grew. Sun Meixi’s hatred for her was unmistakably real.
And Lu Tingyuan had become a monk after her mother passed away. This…
Her mind felt like it was exploding. She didn’t even dare to think about what her relationship with Lu Tingzhou might be if this were true.
Xue Min and Qi Qi didn’t dare bring it up either. If this was real, then Sang Wan and Lu Tingzhou would be…
“Aunt Xue, I don’t want to go back tonight. I’ll rest in Qi Qi’s room for a while.”
Xue Min didn’t know how to console her, so she quickly agreed. “Alright, alright. Rest for a bit. We’ll talk when you’ve calmed down.”
Qi Qi led Sang Wan to her room and closed the door after she lay down.
“Mom, did Aunt Sang really never tell you anything?” Qi Qi pressed as soon as she stepped out.
“No. You know what your Aunt Sang was like, if she didn’t want to talk about something, she wouldn’t say a single word.”
Qi Qi was frantic. “What do we do? Sister Wan really likes President Lu.”
“This… this…”
Xue Min slumped onto the sofa with a heavy sigh. “Jingchu, oh Jingchu… if only you’d told me, your child wouldn’t be suffering like this.”
Though she complained inwardly about Sang Jingchu, her heart ached for Sang Wan. “This poor girl has had such a hard life, one trial after another.”
Mother and daughter sat in the living room until evening. Even when Qi Qi’s father returned, Sang Wan still hadn’t come out of the bedroom.
Xue Min briefly filled him in, and to give them space, he went straight to his parents’ place.
But Sang Wan never emerged from the room, skipping dinner entirely.
Just as Qi Qi was growing anxious, Lu Tingzhou called.
She held out her phone to Xue Min, panic in her voice. “Mom, it’s President Lu. What do we do?”
Unexpectedly, a voice came from the bedroom, “Tell him I took on a promotional video last minute and went to study. I won’t be back for a few days.”
The mother and daughter in the living room exchanged glances. Xue Min nodded, signaling Qi Qi to answer the phone.
Following Sang Wan’s instructions, Qi Qi relayed the message and hung up.
“President Lu is really worried. He suspects something might have happened to Sister Wan and that she’s upset with him.”
Xue Min sighed. What kind of fate was this? If Sang Wan’s father really was Lu Tingyuan, then they were destined to be entangled yet unable to stay together.
Lying in bed, Sang Wan felt no trace of sleepiness, her mind filled with Sun Meixi’s words.
If it were true, how could she face Lu Tingzhou? And how would Lu Tingzhou face her once he found out?
Adding to that, the possibility of being pregnant made her emotions even more complicated.
A bitter ache welled up from the depths of her heart.
Knowing Lu Tingzhou’s temperament, if she didn’t reply to his messages, he would surely spend the entire night too worried to sleep.
So, she unlocked her phone and sent him a message.
Looking at their chat history, Sang Wan felt as if needles were pricking her heart.
Her playful antics and his indulgent laughter, this was their usual dynamic.
Lu Tingzhou’s patience and doting often made her feel as if she were favored by God.
Loved by her mother and grandfather as a child, cherished by Lu Tingzhou as an adult.
Beauty, talent… she had it all, along with a man who was practically perfect.
Wasn’t this the definition of being favored by God?
Seeing the string of messages Lu Tingzhou had sent, Sang Wan’s heart twisted painfully.
[Baby, why aren’t you home yet?]
[Baby, why aren’t you answering your phone?]
[Baby, where are you? I’ll come pick you up.]
[Did something happen?]
[Where are you studying? What promotional video?]
Tears streamed from the corners of Sang Wan’s eyes, soaking a large portion of her pillow.
Her hands trembling, she replied to Lu Tingzhou: [I took it on because it seemed meaningful. It was urgent, so I didn’t have time to tell you. Get some rest, I’ll be back in a couple of days.]
Lu Tingzhou replied instantly: [Take care of yourself. I’ll wait for you to come back.]
With the year-end approaching, Lu Tingzhou was extremely busy. Sang Wan knew this and didn’t want to add to his stress.
Sang Wan: [Got it. Don’t worry.]
After replying to Lu Tingzhou, she sent a message to Lu Jinxuan: [Jinxuan, where is your dad? Tell me, don’t ask why, and don’t mention this to anyone, including your uncle.]
Lu Jinxuan was having dinner with friends when he saw the message. He froze for a long moment. Why was she suddenly asking about his dad?
Could it be that things hadn’t gone well with his mom, and she wanted to talk to his dad about it?
That made sense. His mom only listened to his dad. If his dad could put in a good word, it would smooth things over for his uncle marrying Sister Wan.
After all, his mom had been pestering his grandfather daily, claiming that Sang Wan was a troublemaker who had ruined his marriage prospects.
His grandfather also seemed inclined to arrange a more suitable match for his uncle. It seemed Sister Wan was getting anxious.
So, he quickly replied: [Don’t worry, Sister Wan. My mom only listens to my dad. If you can get him to speak up for you, she won’t dare interfere anymore.]
Lu Jinxuan: [My dad is at Qingfeng Temple.]
Seeing “Qingfeng Temple,” Sang Wan searched for travel options. There were no direct flights or high-speed trains, it was an eight-hour drive.
Transferring would be a hassle, so she decided to drive.
Early the next morning, she got up for breakfast.
Xue Min and Qi Qi noticed she still looked unwell, though better than the pallor of the previous night.
“You didn’t eat last night. I made you wontons, have some.”
Normally, Sang Wan loved Xue Min’s wontons, especially with seaweed, dried shrimp, and a bit of cilantro, her favorite.
But today, the smell made her nauseous. Afraid that Xue Min would notice, she suppressed the discomfort in her stomach and opted for milk and steamed buns.
“Aunt Xue, something light for breakfast, my stomach isn’t feeling too well.”
Xue Min nodded. “Of course, of course. Something light is best. You didn’t eat last night, your stomach must be upset.”
Sang Wan drank half a glass of milk before speaking. “Qi Qi, after breakfast, we’re going to the neighboring province.”
