- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 75 - Only a Marriage in Name
When it came to serious matters, Lin Hao’s expression turned solemn as he immediately began his report.
“Based on the accounts we’ve uncovered, Xu Shiming and Lin Lan have likely been colluding for many years.”
“They’ve taken advantage of their positions to embezzle a considerable amount from the Sang Corporation.”
The coldness in Lu Tingzhou’s eyes deepened further.
Lin Hao paused before continuing, “Moreover… according to the leads our people have found, Madam Sang, that is, Ms. Sang Jingchu, the mother of Miss Sang Wan, might have been aware of these matters.”
“Aware?” Lu Tingzhou’s voice turned icy in an instant.
“Yes,” Lin Hao said, steeling himself. “Madam Sang likely knew about their underhanded dealings, but it seems… she didn’t take any measures to stop them.”
“More importantly,” Lin Hao handed over a document, his expression grave, “we’ve discovered that Lin Lan and Xu Shiming’s relationship may have started much earlier than we thought.”
“While Madam Sang was still alive, they… were already involved in an illicit affair.”
“So, Madam Sang knew Xu Shiming had betrayed her.”
The air in the office instantly froze.
A woman who knew her husband had betrayed her, who knew they were embezzling company funds, yet chose to endure and remain silent.
What secret lay hidden behind this?
Lu Tingzhou stared at the document for a long time without speaking.
…
The next evening.
Sang Wan dragged her exhausted body back to the villa Lu Tingzhou had arranged for her.
The moment she pushed open the door, she froze.
In the living room, the man who should have been in Shencheng was lounging leisurely on the sofa.
He had changed into a casual gray cashmere sweater, softening the sharp edges of his business demeanor and lending him a more approachable warmth.
The sharp angles of his face softened slightly upon seeing Sang Wan return.
And on the floor before him sat two… black safes.
Their metallic surfaces gleamed coldly under the light, starkly out of place in the otherwise cozy home.
Standing in the entryway, Sang Wan changed her shoes but didn’t move further.
Lu Tingzhou hung up his phone and beckoned to her. “Why are you just standing there? Come in.”
“You… why are you here?”
Sang Wan walked over slowly.
She hadn’t paid him much attention these past few days and had assumed he’d wait until the weekend, or perhaps until she returned after wrapping up filming next week.
Lu Tingzhou stepped forward and wrapped an arm around her waist. “I came to see you.”
His gaze fell on her slightly weary face, and his heart ached. Bending down, he simply picked her up in his arms.
“Put me down, someone’s here.”
Qi Qi immediately turned to leave. “Vanishing right now.”
Blushing, Sang Wan sat down on the sofa and nudged the two black safes with her foot.
“What’s this?”
Lu Tingzhou walked over to her, his tall frame enveloping her completely.
His voice was indulgent. “Open them and see.”
Sang Wan crossed her arms, arched a brow, and curled her red lips into a mocking smile.
She glanced at him sidelong, unimpressed. “What’s this, President Lu… trying to bribe me with money?”
“Afraid I won’t ‘serve’ you tonight, so you’re planning to knock me out with a mountain of gold first?”
The little fox was sharp-tongued, every word barbed.
But Lu Tingzhou wasn’t annoyed. He simply gazed at her, lips curving into a faint smile.
“Open it.”
He repeated, his deep voice dripping with indulgence.
“See if you like it. The password is your birthday.”
Sang Wan shot him a glance, her eyes still carrying a trace of unyielding pride.
As if to say: No matter what it is, I won’t forgive you.
She extended her slender fingers and leisurely turned the dial of the safe’s combination lock.
Click.
The lid sprang open.
In an instant, the room’s light seemed to be sucked inside, only to refract back as a dazzling river of pink stars.
Inside the safe, arranged in perfect order, were ten sets of pink diamond jewelry.
From the palest cherry blossom pink to the deepest rose pink, each stone cut into various shapes, resting on velvet cushions, quietly shimmering with a mesmerizing glow.
Sang Wan’s breath hitched for a second.
The mockery and detachment in her eyes were instantly shattered by this overwhelming display of luxury.
Almost instinctively, she quickly moved to the second safe.
Click.
Another breathtaking radiance left her speechless.
This one held even rarer purple-pink diamonds, their mysterious and noble hues resembling fragments of twilight fallen from the heavens, each one breathtakingly beautiful.
No woman could resist such an all-encompassing, unreserved indulgence.
This was no mere jewelry, it was Lu Tingzhou’s domineering apology.
The stubborn defiance Sang Wan had clung to crumbled completely under the relentless assault of these two chests of “pink artillery.”
The corners of her lips lifted uncontrollably, her smile spilling from her eyes, bright as the rising sun.
Lu Tingzhou watched her the entire time, watched the frost in her eyes melt into a pool of spring water, watched her resemble a kitten delighted with a beloved toy, satisfied and joyful.
His heart softened along with hers.
With a long reach of his arm, he effortlessly pulled her into his embrace, settling her securely onto his firm thighs.
He lowered his head until his nose nearly brushed hers, his voice deep and husky, laced with amusement.
“Do you like them?”
The sudden intimacy made Sang Wan’s cheeks burn, yet she couldn’t resist the warmth of his embrace.
She tried to force a stern expression, but the curve of her lips refused to be tamed.
“They’re… passable,” she said, her voice as soft as cotton candy, belying her words.
Lu Tingzhou chuckled lowly, the vibration of his chest transmitting through the thin fabric of their clothes, sending a tingling sensation down her back.
“Ten billion well spent,” he murmured, as if sighing in relief.
“At least I get to hold you now.”
Sang Wan couldn’t hold back a laugh, playfully thumping his chest.
“Ten billion just for a hug? President Lu, that’s terrible business.”
He tightened his arms, pulling her even deeper into his embrace, resting his chin lightly atop her head and inhaling the sweet fragrance of her hair.
“A beauty’s smile is priceless,” he said, his voice gentler than ever before.
Sang Wan gave her verdict: “A corrupt and decadent tyrant.”
“For you,” he replied, “being a corrupt tyrant is worth it.”
Under his tender yet relentless siege, Sang Wan’s heart melted completely.
Things like “other women” or “Zi Garden” no longer seemed so important in this moment.
Nestled in his arms, she adjusted into a more comfortable position, her tone laced with a hint of coquetry.
“President Lu, don’t think you can bribe me with just these sugar-coated bullets.”
“Hmm,” he responded solemnly. “Then next time, I’ll try a different kind of bomb.”
Sang Wan laughed against his shoulder, her voice muffled.
“Baby,” Lu Tingzhou gently kissed her forehead, “don’t be angry anymore.”
“I can’t change the past.”
“But my present and future can only be you.”
He paused, his voice lowering with a solemn promise.
“That apartment in the capital, I’m not selling it, not because there’s someone else in my heart.”
“But because it holds a different meaning.”
He didn’t elaborate, but Sang Wan understood the reassurance in his words.
The last lingering knot in her heart finally unraveled.
These past two days, how could she not miss him?
They say lovers in the throes of passion feel a day apart like three years.
Those words couldn’t be more true.
She had been wrestling with herself, trapped in her own turmoil, tormenting herself, and him.
Sang Wan lifted her head and planted a kiss on his chin, offering him an olive branch.
“Fine, for the sake of these two boxes of ‘rocks,’ I’ll reluctantly forgive you.”
The warmth in Lu Tingzhou’s eyes deepened as he picked her up and carried her toward the dining room.
“Let’s eat.”
Only then did Sang Wan notice the exquisite dinner already laid out on the table. Strangely, the villa was empty except for the two of them, even Aunt Liu was gone.
Her heart stirred. This man had sent everyone away just to be alone with her.
One by one, the people around her had been quietly “won over” by him.
The net he had woven was seamless, and she, willingly, was ensnared in it.
…
After dinner, the two curled up on the sofa again.
Sang Wan, like a lazy cat nestled in Lu Tingzhou’s arms, took out the jewelry piece by piece, admiring each under the light.
The sparkle of the diamonds cast a radiant glow on her delicate face.
Lu Tingzhou gazed down at her, his eyes brimming with unshakable tenderness.
After careful consideration, though reluctant to disturb the moment, he spoke up.
Some things, she had the right to know.
“Baby, your parents… how is their relationship?”
Sang Wan’s hand, holding a necklace, froze abruptly.
The cozy atmosphere in the living room seemed to split open with that question, letting in a chilling draft.
Lu Tingzhou felt her body stiffen.
He lowered his gaze, his expression darkening. Judging by her reaction, she must… already know something.
So, he pressed on, his voice even softer, “They don’t get along, do they?”
Sang Wan slowly set down the necklace and fell silent for a moment.
When she looked up at him, the joy in her beautiful peach-blossom eyes had vanished, replaced by a desolate sorrow.
“Relationship?”
“There was never any relationship between them.”
“To be precise, theirs was a marriage of convenience.”
Sang Wan took a deep breath. “Xu Shiming, he doesn’t deserve my mother.”
She uttered the name without a trace of filial affection, only detachment and disgust.
“He’s not my biological father. When he married my mother, she was already pregnant with me. He married her for his own ambitions, but he had other women outside.”
The words spilled out in one breath. Since Lu Tingzhou was asking, there was no point hiding it anymore.
Lu Tingzhou had already uncovered the financial issues between Lin Lan and Xu Shiming. Even if she didn’t say anything, he would suspect, and verify, on his own.
Though he had anticipated it, hearing the truth from her lips still sent Lu Tingzhou’s heart sinking heavily.
No wonder his little girl was forced by Xu Shiming to marry someone like Wang Sheng.
He showed no surprise, merely reaching out to gently stroke her long hair, offering silent comfort through his actions.
Then, calmly, he shared his findings. “What I’ve uncovered confirms this as well.”
“Xu Shiming and Lin Lan have been together for many years. Your mother knew from the very beginning that he had betrayed her.”
“She also knew about their embezzlement.”
The air in the living room froze.
