- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 31 - Teased by Him
Song Zixi walked gracefully with Xu Mingyue on her arm, her eyes filled with undisguised disdain.
“Sang Wan sure is quick to cozy up to the film emperor. What impressive skills. I wonder what her sugar daddy would think if he found out?”
Song Zixi spoke with a mocking tone, her voice just loud enough for those nearby to hear.
Xu Mingyue stood beside her, a sickly sweet smile on her lips, her gaze sharp as a knife, stabbing into Sang Wan again and again.
“If her sugar daddy knew, she’d probably lose her lead role.”
She had dressed up meticulously for the occasion, clad in designer haute couture, her makeup flawless. Eager to break into the entertainment industry, she had tagged along with Song Zixi to make some connections.
Though she and Song Zixi had nothing in common, their shared hatred for Sang Wan had brought them together, truly a case of “birds of a feather flock together.”
Seeing Sang Wan chatting so happily with Xiao Yan, jealousy festered in their hearts.
Why?
What was so great about that bitch Sang Wan?
As they approached, they forced polite, friendly smiles onto their faces, Xiao Yan’s presence demanded it.
“Senior Xiao, it’s an honor to finally meet you. Working with you is a privilege, and I’ll make sure to learn as much as I can.”
Song Zixi spoke with humble courtesy, and Sang Wan couldn’t help but smirk, this was the first time she’d ever seen Song Zixi act so polite.
Xiao Yan gave a polite smile in return. “No need for formalities, Miss Song. Looking forward to working together.”
Xu Mingyue noticed the faint trace of disdain in Sang Wan’s smile and spoke softly, “Sister, Senior Xiao is a senior in the industry. You should cherish this opportunity and learn from him. Of course, I’ll do the same. Maybe you can guide me in the future too.”
Sang Wan glanced at her coldly. That innocent, harmless act was truly a masterclass, she’d learned it straight from her mother.
Had the last beating not been enough? How was her skin still this thick?
Calling her “sister” over and over, that white lotus act with all the fake sweetness was downright nauseating.
Sang Wan wasn’t broad-minded enough to pretend to get along with people she disliked. It was just her nature, she never forced herself to play nice with those she couldn’t stand.
Of course, she understood self-preservation. If she were dealing with someone like Xiao Yan or Lu Tingzhou, people she couldn’t afford to offend, she could swallow her pride if needed.
At that thought, the image of that man’s noble, untouchable face surfaced in her mind, his aloof demeanor slowly crumbling away.
Sang Wan frowned. Why was she thinking about him again? It had only been two days since she last saw him, yet his face kept haunting her like a ghost, tempting her at every turn.
Xu Mingyue, seeing Sang Wan ignore her and frown in annoyance, suppressed her anger and put on a pitiful act. “Sister, are you mad that I came without telling you? I’ve always wanted to learn acting, but you never wanted to bring me along, so I came with Sister Zixi. Please don’t be angry, okay?”
Her words, dripping with false hurt, made Sang Wan seem like the unreasonable one in the eyes of those nearby.
Xiao Yan, however, smirked slightly and glanced at Sang Wan.
“Sang Wan, I heard Mingyue wanted to see what it’s like on set, so I brought her along.”
Sang Wan had no patience for their fake, saccharine act. She stood up. “Senior Xiao, I’m not a fan of tea, especially the cheap kind. I’ll head in first.”
Xiao Yan was momentarily stunned. While he could tell Xu Mingyue was putting on an act, he hadn’t expected Sang Wan to call it out so bluntly, without sparing any face or caring about what others might think.
It made him even more curious about her.
“I think it’s about time we headed in too. Let’s go together.”
Xu Mingyue stomped her foot in frustration. “How utterly disrespectful!”
Song Zixi felt equally unsettled. Xiao Yan wasn’t as warm toward her as he was toward Sang Wan.
Men really were creatures ruled by their lower halves, judging women first by their faces and figures.
Not that she was ugly, she just didn’t have those alluring fox-like eyes of Sang Wan’s.
And of course, she didn’t have that effortlessly flexible waist either.
The industry unanimously agreed that Sang Wan’s eyes and waist were in a league of their own.
Though unwilling to admit it, Song Zixi knew she couldn’t compare.
What’s more, she especially despised Sang Wan’s aloof and indifferent demeanor, as if the rest of them were nothing but ridiculous clowns unworthy of her attention.
Watching Xiao Yan and Sang Wan walk away, Song Zixi lowered her voice. “Yueyue, don’t be upset. If Lu Tingzhou knew she was flirting around like this outside, do you think she’d still have a foothold in the entertainment industry? Do you really think Lu Tingzhou would tolerate his woman laughing and chatting with other men, especially someone of Xiao Yan’s caliber?”
Though her words were meant to console, Song Zixi knew Xu Mingyue’s hatred for Sang Wan ran far deeper than her own. That was precisely why she had brought Xu Mingyue along.
At the mention of “Lu Tingzhou,” Xu Mingyue’s eyes darkened.
Hadn’t she schemed tirelessly to get close to Lu Jinxuan precisely to cling to the Lu family’s influence?
Yet that fool Lu Jinxuan had also fallen under Sang Wan’s spell, dodging her at every turn lately.
“You’re right, Sister Zixi. Just wait, her days of bliss are numbered.” A trace of ruthlessness flashed in Xu Mingyue’s eyes.
The two exchanged a knowing smile.
Xu Mingyue had long harbored resentment toward Sang Wan, and Song Zixi likewise saw her as a thorn in her side. With a shared enemy, they naturally hit it off, quickly forming a “plastic sisterhood.”
The three-day script reading officially began.
For the first two days, everything proceeded smoothly, without a ripple.
Sang Wan had been deeply immersed in studying the script, raising numerous questions and sharing her insights during the readings, much to the amazement of the director and screenwriter.
These days, few actors truly sat down to analyze scripts, delve into their characters’ psyches, and fully immerse themselves in the role.
Even Xiao Yan felt a twinge of inadequacy. Having just wrapped up his last project, he had jumped straight into this one without properly reviewing the script yet.
His gaze toward her couldn’t help but carry a hint of admiration.
Song Zixi sneered inwardly, scoffing at what she saw as Sang Wan’s attention-seeking antics. Acting was simply about doing what the director told you, why overcomplicate it with endless questions and ideas, as if she were the director herself?
On the third day, during afternoon tea, Sang Wan and Xiao Yan were discussing the script in a small lounge.
Song Zixi and Xu Mingyue approached, and seeing no one else around, Song Zixi signaled for Xu Mingyue to stay quiet.
She then adjusted her angle and snapped several photos of the pair.
Satisfied with the shots, she whispered a few words into Xu Mingyue’s ear before casually strolling in with a cup of coffee.
“Senior Xiao, Sang Wan, here you are. Perfect timing, there’s a part I don’t quite understand. Mind if I ask for your thoughts?”
As she spoke, Song Zixi leaned in closer, pretending not to notice the coffee in her hand as she bent to place the script down.
Sang Wan had been wary from the moment Song Zixi approached and subtly shifted aside.
“Senior Xiao, could you take a look here? How should I portray this part? What’s the supporting character’s mindset here?”
Xiao Yan, unsuspecting, reached for the script but suddenly noticed the coffee in her hand tipping over. He swiftly pulled Sang Wan back.
“Careful! the coffee’s spilling.”
Song Zixi seemed to have just noticed the coffee in her hand, her face full of remorse. “Sang Wan, I’m so sorry. I was too focused on the script and forgot I was holding coffee.”
Sang Wan sneered, “Oh? I thought it was just that someone’s hands were too weak to hold a cup steady.”
Song Zixi pouted, “I’m sorry, please don’t be angry. I’m apologizing to you.”
Xiao Yan didn’t know what history the two had, but it was clear Sang Wan wasn’t friendly toward Song Zixi. However, matters between women were delicate, and not something he could resolve.
“This part of the script will be discussed this afternoon, Miss Song. It’s better to wait for the screenwriter’s explanation.”
Having achieved her goal, Song Zixi nodded obediently. “Alright, thank you, Senior Xiao.”
Sang Wan couldn’t be bothered to argue further and simply ignored her.
…
That night, lying in bed, she realized the man who was away on business hadn’t sent her a single message all day. She couldn’t help but wonder what he was up to.
In a good mood, she decided to check in on him and sent him a text:
[Script reading session. Thanks to our generous sponsor for providing such great conditions, nice environment, good food, and even the bed is so comfortable.]
Lu Tingzhou had just boarded his flight back home when he saw the message from his little fox. A faint smile curved his lips as he quickly typed a reply:
[Glad you find it comfortable. The experience must be good then. Get some rest early.]
He didn’t tell her he’d be back tomorrow, surprises were more fun.
Reading his reply, Sang Wan felt her face grow hotter the longer she stared at it. He hadn’t said anything suggestive, yet she couldn’t shake the feeling he was teasing her again.
Must be all that nonsense I’ve been reading online lately. At this rate, I’ll become one of those girls who gets the innuendo right away.
…
On the fourth day, as Sang Wan stepped out of her room, she ran into Xu Mingyue.
The latter gave her a meaningful look, smirking. “You seem well-rested lately, sis. Dad was worried your insomnia hadn’t improved, but it looks like his concern was unnecessary.”
Sang Wan ignored her. The fact that Xu Mingyue hadn’t stirred up trouble these past two days was already a rare blessing.
After breakfast, Sang Wan headed to the conference room. Song Zixi was already there, but Sang Wan pretended not to see her, immersing herself in the script instead.
The protagonist’s resilience, endurance, and eventual triumphant comeback resonated deeply with her as if she wasn’t acting as someone else, but a version of herself from another time and space.
The script reading went smoothly. The director praised Sang Wan’s performance effusively, and even Xiao Yan’s words carried admiration.
But to Xu Mingyue, all of this was nothing but an unbearable show of arrogance.
Her nails dug into her palms, eyes burning with resentment.
“Mingyue, control your emotions. Learning to manage your feelings is a basic requirement for actors,” Song Zixi whispered, leaning in to remind her.
Xu Mingyue bit her lower lip, her voice thick with bitterness. “I just can’t stand her smug face, Sister Xi! It’s like she thinks the whole world revolves around her!”
Song Zixi’s lips curled into a smile. “If you can’t stand it, then make sure she has nothing to be smug about. We already set things in motion last night, just wait and see the results today.”
Xu Mingyue nodded. “Back then, I held back because of Shen Yubai’s warning and didn’t let the paparazzi release anything. After all this time, there’s no way he can trace it back to us. The only thing I’m worried about is Lu Tingzhou stepping in to protect her again.”
“Relax,” Song Zixi reassured her. “If anything, Lu Tingzhou probably can’t stand her either. Don’t forget the photos I took last night.”
Her words put Xu Mingyue at ease, a triumphant gleam flashing in her eyes.
Sang Wan, let’s see how you bounce back from this one!
The script reading went smoothly and concluded successfully on the morning of the fourth day. The afternoon was left open for everyone to relax, with the official filming set to begin next Monday.
Through these days of in-depth discussions, Sang Wan gained a deeper understanding of her character and felt even more excited about the upcoming shoot.
Especially since it was her first time collaborating with a big name like Xiao Yan, just thinking about how her popularity would skyrocket made her giddy.
After lunch, Sang Wan had just returned to her room to pack when her phone started buzzing incessantly.
Su Mo’s calls came one after another.
Frowning, Sang Wan answered the phone.
