- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 29 - Are You Single?
In the car, Sang Wan pondered for a long time before asking her first question.
“President Lu, are you single?”
Lu Tingzhou turned to look at her in confusion. “Didn’t you investigate thoroughly?”
“I have principles, of course I investigated.”
The words slipped out before she could stop them, and Sang Wan immediately blushed. Admitting so bluntly that she had looked into him that she had ulterior motives was rather embarrassing.
Lu Tingzhou took in the changes in her expression and teased her, “You’ve already done it, and now you’re shy?”
“Don’t change the subject. Are you single or not?”
“Legally, I have no wife or children. Outside the law, no romantic partners, and certainly no illegitimate children. Strictly speaking, I’m a lone wolf.”
His answer was frank, and Sang Wan couldn’t help but press her lips together. It seemed her second question was already unnecessary.
There were no women around Lu Tingzhou, Su Mo’s investigation wouldn’t be wrong about that.
Her intentions had been impure from the start, and now she was greedy for even more.
Sang Wan realized she might be getting too greedy.
If two people truly loved each other, they shouldn’t dwell on what happened before they met. Lingering on the past would only create unnecessary friction, not with each other, but with time and life itself. It was nothing but self-sabotage.
Lu Tingzhou watched the little fox beside him, his eyes crinkling slightly as his lips curved into a faint smile.
…
Outside Jingyuan Apartments.
“Can you get upstairs by yourself?”
Lu Tingzhou leaned lazily against the car, exuding an air of casual indifference.
Sang Wan had expected him to walk her up like he did the night before, but this man actually…
Remembering how he had teased her at the banquet, she cursed inwardly: This bastard. So refined in public, but behind closed doors, he’s anything but.
She couldn’t quite grasp his intentions, but she could clearly sense that his attitude toward her had changed.
Without external pressure, Sang Wan wasn’t in a hurry. This was fine, too.
“Of course I can. Thank you, President Lu.”
If he wanted to play games, she could play too and she could do it even better.
After all, she was a professional actress.
Lu Tingzhou nodded. “Go on up.”
Sang Wan dipped her head slightly, her smile radiant and perfectly complementing her outfit. In Lu Tingzhou’s eyes, she looked sweet and adorable.
As he watched her retreating figure, his expression gradually darkened.
If she never remembers, and things could just stay like this…
Having her willingly stay by his side would be the best outcome.
Lu Tingzhou lit a cigarette, his gaze fixed on the lit window upstairs. His resolve hardened, Sang Wan could only be his.
The walls he had built around his heart over the past three years had crumbled the moment he saw her again after returning to the country. He simply couldn’t stop himself from paying attention to her.
Nor could he stand to see her in distress or being bullied.
Though his current methods might be a little shameless, as long as it made her stay willingly, not for some ulterior motive, he was willing to be even more unscrupulous.
He would make it up to her later, even if it cost him everything.
The moment Sang Wan got home, she went to the balcony to look downstairs.
Seeing the man still there, silently smoking, she unconsciously smiled.
Her heartbeat quickened.
Wasn’t this just like a scene from one of her dramas?
A devoted man standing beneath the window of the woman he loved, unwilling to leave.
But had Lu Tingzhou really fallen for her?
How long would his love last?
Watching as the man finished his cigarette and left, Sang Wan shook her head. Modern men and women were just… men and women.
If she insisted on pursuing a love that was pure and true, she might never find it in this lifetime.
But she knew she had fallen for him.
Whether there would be a future or not, as long as they were sincere with each other now, she was willing to walk toward him.
Because his gaze was so much like the one in her dreams.
Returning to her bedroom, Sang Wan took out the jade pendant her mother had left her from the bottom of her jewelry box.
She remembered clearly, her mother had told her this pendant was a family heirloom of the Sang family and that she must keep it safe.
Sang Wan placed the pendant she had bid for alongside her own. Sure enough, the two were a pair, the intertwined lotus patterns on them could be perfectly connected.
She picked up both pendants and tried fitting the concave and convex parts together. To her surprise, they merged seamlessly into one.
How incredible. Sang Wan’s heart leaped with joy. She wondered if her mother would be happy to know that the pendant she had given her had another half and that she had found it.
…
Late at night.
Lu Tingzhou finished his work and stepped out of his study.
Seeing the lights in the living room opposite already off, he unlocked his phone.
That little fox sure held a grudge, she hadn’t sent him any more messages today.
His fingers tapped lightly on the screen as he sent a message: [Get some rest early.]
Still the same cool, restrained tone.
Sang Wan had just set down her script and was about to sleep when her phone screen suddenly lit up. Seeing it was a message from her benefactor, she quickly opened it.
Reading the same four words again, she curved her lips slightly and put her phone down without replying.
The next morning, sunlight spilled gently through the sheer curtains.
Sang Wan was woken by the doorbell and groggily went to answer it.
Her assistant, Qi Qi, stood at the door holding an exquisite thermal lunchbox, beaming.
“Morning, Sister Wan! President Lu specially sent over a breakfast made with love.”
Qi Qi’s tone was laced with obvious amusement.
Sang Wan was surprised for a moment before her lips curled.
What was this man up to?
Sitting at the dining table, she picked up her phone and tapped open her chat with Lu Tingzhou with slender fingers.
[What’s the meaning of this, President Lu?]
The reply came almost instantly.
Three words popped up on the screen: [An apology gift.]
An apology gift?
Sang Wan blinked, her eyes instantly crinkling with amusement.
So it was because he hadn’t replied to her messages all day yesterday, now he was making up for it!
His game was… not bad.
In high spirits, Sang Wan enjoyed the “apology” breakfast, silky-smooth bird’s nest porridge, delicate pastries, every detail carefully thought out, each bite sweet and satisfying.
The smile on her lips simply couldn’t be hidden.
That afternoon, Sang Wan and Bai Wei had arranged to visit the studio to try on costumes for the new drama.
As the car passed by the towering building of Lu Corporation, the gleaming words “Lu Corporation” under the sunlight caught Sang Wan’s attention.
They say a man is most attractive when he’s working, she wondered what he looked like in that state. Was it anything like what she imagined?
“Sister Wei, you and Qi Qi go grab something to eat. Wait for me a moment. I’m going to get some coffee and… maybe bring some afternoon tea upstairs.”
She blinked, her tone light.
Bai Wei, sharp as ever, immediately caught on and asked with a smile, “So you’ve got him?”
Sang Wan arched a brow. “The ambiguous stage, he’s not saying anything, I’m not saying anything. You know how it is.”
Bai Wei shook her head helplessly at her bright smile. “Another one blinded by love. But getting involved in rumors with Lu Tingzhou; no harm, only benefits.”
Sang Wan cheerfully put on her mask and stepped out of the car. After picking up coffee and snacks from a nearby café, she strode gracefully in her high heels toward the imposing entrance of Lu Corporation.
Today, she wore a form-fitting aqua-blue dress that accentuated her delicate curves, her long hair flowing gracefully behind her. From afar, she looked pure yet inexplicably alluring.
As she walked into Lu Corporation, the security guards at the entrance froze for a moment as she passed by.
Snapping back to reality, they hurriedly stepped forward to stop her.
“Miss, do you have an appointment?”
The receptionist had just stepped out temporarily, leaving the guards to handle any visitors.
Sang Wan blinked. She had come here on a whim, where would she have an appointment?
With a smile, she said, “I’m here to see Lu Tingzhou. I’ll just bring him a cup of coffee and leave right after.”
The guard suddenly gave her a knowing look, scrutinized her briefly, and replied flatly, “Sorry, our CEO is very busy. Too many women try this trick to get close to him, your move is way overused.”
Sang Wan’s smile stiffened instantly. Behind her mask, her red lips pressed together in frustration.
Overused?
So he really was a magnet for women.
“Sir, I actually know him. I was just passing by and thought I’d say hello.”
The guard clasped his hands in front of him and shook his head firmly.
Clearly, he was well-trained and utterly unmoved!
Glaring at him indignantly, she gritted her teeth. She had only wanted to return the favor after he sent her an apology gift to surprise him but who knew she wouldn’t even be allowed inside?
“Not letting me in, huh? Fine, I’ll call your CEO myself.”
Sang Wan dialed the number, but the call rang until it disconnected, no one picked up.
The guard smirked slightly, as if to say, I told you so.
Sang Wan: “…”
She scanned the area, took a few steps back, and positioned herself in front of the grand “Lu Corporation” sign. Removing her mask, she pulled out her phone.
Hmph, let me show you what professional trolling looks like!
Adjusting her angle, she deliberately tugged the neckline of her dress lower, revealing her delicate collarbones and a teasing glimpse of fair skin.
She turned slightly to emphasize her S-curve silhouette.
Then, facing the camera, she puckered her lips slightly, a mix of grievance, resentment, and blatant seduction.
Click!
A visually striking selfie was born.
In the photo, the woman was enchantingly alluring, yet the backdrop was the solemn, imposing “Lu Corporation” sign.
The stark contrast only heightened the temptation.
Satisfied, she curled her lips and sent the photo directly to the contact labeled “Sugar Daddy,” along with a sarcastic caption:
[President Lu, your threshold is too high. A mere girl like me can’t get in, so I can only admire your company from the outside. Wuwuwu~]
After sending it, she put her mask back on, walked up to the guard, and tilted her chin up. “Here, sir, the iced coffee’s for you. Cool off that temper.”
With that, she turned and strode away without a backward glance.
She had only wanted to drop by, but now that she was annoyed, why bother?
The guard stared after her, baffled.
What was that about? She just… left? That was way too easy.
Meanwhile, in the top-floor conference room of Lu Corporation, Lu Tingzhou had just taken his seat.
The previously heated discussion instantly froze under his presence.
Seated at the head of the table, his expression was cold and authoritative.
“The project is two weeks behind schedule. With full funding and equipment ready, I need a reasonable explanation and a solution.”
His voice wasn’t loud, but the unyielding pressure in his tone made the executives hold their breaths, not daring to make a sound.
Just then, a phone vibrated on the conference table.
“Buzz…”
Everyone’s nerves instantly tensed up!
Who had the audacity to leave their phone unmuted while President Lu was furious?!
Lu Tingzhou despised any untimely disruptions during meetings. His sharp gaze instantly turned icy as he searched for the source of the sound.
Lin Hao stared at Lu Tingzhou’s phone, his scalp tingling with dread. Finally, steeling himself under the collective stares of the room, he lowered his voice with a tremble, “P-President Lu… it’s your phone.”
The air seemed to freeze.
A barely perceptible frown flickered across Lu Tingzhou’s brow, a trace of almost imperceptible embarrassment flashing across his face.
He picked up his phone, intending to power it off immediately, but when he saw the message notification from “Little Fox” pop up on the screen, he tapped it without hesitation.
The moment he saw the content of the photo, his slender fingers gave an involuntary jerk.
Thud.
