- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 16 - This Feeling Is...
Sang Wan frowned slightly as she glanced at Lu Jinxuan. Weren’t they supposed to be ready to start filming? Why was it still not finalized?
Then it dawned on her, of course, he was just a wealthy young master, investing money without bothering with the details.
The director probably didn’t want to offend the boss or let her misunderstand, which was why he had arranged this meeting to explain in person.
Director Zhang sighed again, his tone sincere. “I truly don’t want to waste Miss Sang’s valuable time. Once everything is properly prepared on my end, I’ll contact you immediately. I hope we’ll still have the chance to collaborate then.”
Bai Wei was practically overjoyed inside, it was like someone had delivered a pillow just as she was about to fall asleep.
Absolutely perfect!
Lu Jinxuan was stunned. Though he didn’t involve himself in the company’s operations, he wasn’t completely unaware of the project’s progress.
“Director Zhang, wasn’t everything settled a while ago? How could-”
Director Zhang waved his hand. “Young Master Lu, every project has its flaws. Our company’s procedures aren’t fully streamlined yet. Since you rarely visit the office…”
Lu Jinxuan looked defeated and turned to Sang Wan apologetically. “Miss Sang, my apologies.”
Sang Wan curved her lips into a smile. “It’s fine. Young Master Lu meant well.”
Bai Wei was ecstatic inside but kept her expression neutral. “If there’s an opportunity in the future, please keep our Sang Wan in mind. Even if this collaboration doesn’t work out, there will be plenty of chances later.”
The night before, Xu Mingyue had cried to Lin Lan and Xu Shiming after receiving Sang Wan’s message. Lin Lan, unable to swallow her anger, had arranged to meet with Sun Meixi, Lu Jinxuan’s mother.
Wang Sheng hadn’t been appeased yet, and if something went wrong between Xu Mingyue and her son, Wang Sheng would likely grow even more anxious.
Though she didn’t like Xu Mingyue, she had no choice but to accept her as a daughter-in-law.
Just as they were about to order in the private room, Sun Meixi entered with Lin Lan and Xu Mingyue in tow.
“Son, the manager mentioned you were here, so I came with your Aunt Lin.”
As Sun Meixi spoke, her gaze fell on Sang Wan, and her eyes instantly turned cold.
This girl looked so much like her vixen of a mother, only her demeanor was softer and more alluring, whereas her mother had always carried an air of aloofness.
“Mom, what are you doing here?”
Sun Meixi smiled gracefully. “Mingyue has been missing you. No matter how busy you are with work, you shouldn’t neglect her.”
Lin Lan feigned surprise at the sight of Sang Wan. “Wanwan, I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you discussing work?”
Her voice made Sang Wan sneer inwardly, but she didn’t look at her or respond. Instead, she turned to Lu Jinxuan.
“Young Master Lu, tomorrow night is my friend’s bar anniversary. I’d like to invite you for a drink. It seems today’s meal won’t be happening after all.”
Lu Jinxuan looked even more apologetic. “I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll pick you up tomorrow night.”
Sang Wan nodded, her charming smile carrying a hint of innocence, seductive yet not vulgar, making it impossible to look away.
Seeing Lu Jinxuan’s infatuated expression, Xu Mingyue burned with jealousy.
Lin Lan knew her daughter’s temper and squeezed her hand reassuringly.
With Sun Meixi here, they had more than half the battle won.
Lu Jinxuan was a filial son, especially after his father’s passing, which had made him cherish his mother even more.
So even if he didn’t like Xu Mingyue, he never humiliated her. He had even considered giving her a chance if his mother approved.
But ever since he met Sang Wan the night before, his heart was no longer under his control.
Sang Wan and Bai Wei left, and as soon as they got into the car, Bai Wei exclaimed excitedly, “Wanwan! Huge news! Director Luo personally called and said he wants you to play the female lead in his upcoming S+ blockbuster Storm Rising! We’re scheduled for an audition tomorrow at 3 PM!”
Sang Wan was momentarily stunned before breaking into a smile. “Didn’t you say it was the supporting female role? Sister Wei, since when did you become so good at keeping secrets?”
Bai Wei pouted. “I was just as shocked when I got the call. Originally, I was indeed pushing for the supporting role for you, given that the cast is full of A-listers and you’re still relatively new, figured you could learn from them. But who knew they’d offer you the lead instead? And it was Director Luo himself who called me.”
Sang Wan was completely taken aback. Could something this good really happen?
Bai Wei grinned. “You’re a great actress, highly adaptable, and you’ve got no scandals. Director Luo must have seen something special in you.”
Sang Wan thought it wasn’t entirely impossible. After all, she had worked diligently over the past three years, putting in genuine effort.
“Qi Qi, any updates on my grandfather’s situation?”
“Sister Wan, I’ve practically combed through every nursing home, rehabilitation center, and sanatorium in Shencheng, but there’s still no trace of the old master.”
Bai Wei sighed. “Don’t rush. Your father wouldn’t dare go too far, he’s just after money, not blood.”
Sang Wan nodded and instructed Qi Qi, “Get more people to keep searching.”
…
The next afternoon at 3 PM, the film studio.
Sang Wan walked in wearing a black halter-neck dress and stiletto heels, her presence radiant.
Her fair, slender back was exposed, and her face bore only the lightest touch of makeup.
Elegant yet undeniably alluring.
Bai Wei couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of her. “Wanwan, I’m convinced I’m going to become the most famous agent in the industry. With your looks and poise, you’re bound to be a massive hit.”
Sang Wan chuckled, her red lips parting slightly. “Then you’d better hold onto me tight. Treat me badly, and I’ll switch agents.”
Bai Wei rolled her eyes. “A little praise and you’re already floating. Who’s been by your side through thick and thin?”
Qi Qi laughed. “The strategist’s contributions are irreplaceable. Sister Wan would never replace you.”
Sang Wan mused to herself that she hadn’t really thought about becoming a star. She had stumbled into the entertainment industry because of a dream, abandoning her passion for fashion design, something even she found hard to believe.
The three of them chatted and laughed as they entered the waiting area for the audition.
Song Zixi walked in, spotted Sang Wan, and frowned before approaching.
“Sang Wan, long time no see.”
Sang Wan glanced up at her, offering a faint smile and a nod.
Neither warm nor cold.
Song Zixi had debuted a year earlier than Sang Wan, and the two were often compared as equals.
Sang Wan was praised for her beauty and acting skills, while Song Zixi relied on her connections.
Even so, she always seemed to fall short next to Sang Wan.
Whenever they competed for the same role, Sang Wan invariably came out on top.
Yet, Sang Wan’s background remained a mystery in the industry, her family was ordinary, but her resources were astonishingly good.
For Director Luo’s project, Song Zixi had also been vying for the supporting female role.
The two weren’t close and had never worked together.
Earlier this year, after Sang Wan’s Love of a Lifetime became a hit, Song Zixi grew envious and took subtle jabs at her on Weibo.
Their fanbases clashed fiercely, and in the end, Song Zixi couldn’t handle the backlash and issued a public apology on Weibo.
That apology stayed pinned to her profile for an entire week.
Song Zixi noticed Sang Wan ignoring her and gave a disdainful smile. “I heard the Lu Group is investing in this drama. They’re entering the entertainment industry, and you won’t be able to snatch this supporting female role from me.”
Her agent had told her that Sang Wan was also vying for the supporting role. Seeing her here today meant the two were set to compete.
But Song Zixi wasn’t worried, in fact, she was brimming with confidence. The role was as good as hers.
Sang Wan remained indifferent, her lips curving slightly. “Oh? Then let me congratulate you in advance, another second lead for you.”
Song Zixi gritted her teeth. Her last drama had also cast her as the second female lead.
Though she had debuted earlier than Sang Wan, she had fewer leading roles under her belt.
With many people around, Song Zixi dared not lose her temper. Instead, she leaned in and whispered, “If you look down on supporting roles, why bother auditioning? Playing coy like this won’t look good if word gets out.”
Sang Wan still didn’t engage, merely glancing at her before leisurely scrolling through her phone.
At that moment, Director Luo Zheng strode in with steady steps.
Song Zixi’s agent quickly approached him. “Director Luo, it’s been a while. I hope you’ll give us your guidance.”
Luo Zheng ignored her, scanning the waiting area before walking straight toward Sang Wan.
Bai Wei, seasoned in navigating such circles, noticed Luo Zheng patting Sang Wan’s shoulder, and both women stood up.
“Director Luo, it’s an honor to finally meet you!”
Luo Zheng smiled warmly, shaking hands with Bai Wei and Sang Wan. “Please, come inside.”
Song Zixi was stunned, her outstretched hand frozen mid-air as if time had stopped.
The moment Sang Wan entered the room, the atmosphere shifted to an abrupt silence.
Luo Zheng’s team was highly professional, they weren’t particularly swayed by star power, prioritizing skill and reputation instead.
But the entrance of such a stunning beauty was impossible to ignore.
The assistant director beside Luo Zheng glanced up and was instantly captivated by her beauty.
Radiant, enchanting, with an innate allure and an unmatched aura.
Luo Zheng nudged him, his expression silently saying, Wipe the drool off your chin.
The assistant director, a veteran with over a decade in the industry, chuckled awkwardly. “Sang Wan is one of the rising stars. Seeing her in person, she’s even more striking than on screen.”
Sang Wan didn’t feign modesty, her voice sweet and soft as she replied, “Thank you for the praise, Director Gao.”
Though Luo Zheng had initially considered her due to investor pressure, he had still researched Sang Wan and reviewed her recent works. Her acting and poise had improved dramatically.
Casting her didn’t worry him much. If needed, he could always guide her further, just a bit more time.
But formalities had to be observed to avoid criticism.
“Miss Sang, please perform this scene.”
Sang Wan took the script, read it for two minutes, then set it down.
When she looked up again, her eyes burned with murderous intent, a stark contrast to her earlier charming demeanor.
The sharp glare she fixed on the assistant director sent a shiver down his spine.
Damn, Director Gao thought inwardly, she’s the vengeful female lead incarnate.
Her performance flowed effortlessly, even the action sequences executed with seamless precision.
The excitement in Luo Zheng’s eyes was unmistakable to Bai Wei, this leading role was practically secured.
The assistant director, though impressed, remained cautious and handed her another emotionally layered scene to test her further.
Luo Zheng couldn’t even stop him.
Sang Wan didn’t complain. Auditioning was part of the process, especially for a Luo Zheng production. The request wasn’t unreasonable.
In less than ten minutes, during a simple scene with her counterpart, the character she portrayed transitioned seamlessly from naive shyness at first meeting, to heartbroken despair during a misunderstanding, and finally to compassionate acceptance. The emotional layers unfolded naturally with each shift.
That final teary smile was particularly striking, capturing both the fragility of a young girl and the resilience of the character, leaving the audience breathless.
The assistant director was so moved that he shot up from his chair, mouth agape for a long moment before finally managing to say, “This is it! this feeling is absolutely perfect.”
