- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 13 - You're Not Among My Juniors
Sang Wan remained silent, but Su Mo couldn’t hold back. Supporting Sang Wan, she adjusted the mask on her face.
“You don’t even know the truth, yet you’re spouting nonsense. Just because you have a mouth, does that mean you can spew whatever you want?”
Sang Wan leaned against Su Mo’s shoulder, neither fully awake nor entirely drunk.
She wasn’t afraid of trending on social media. At worst, she could expose Xu Shiming’s heartlessness, remarrying less than half a year after his wife’s death, while that mother and daughter pair shamelessly took over her home. What did she have to fear?
“You three, come up here.”
Lu Tingzhou’s cold, deep voice was like ice thrown into boiling water, instantly silencing the commotion downstairs.
The familiar voice made Sang Wan lift her eyelids slightly. The man on the staircase wore a black suit, his metal-framed glasses reflecting a cool, detached light under the crystal chandelier.
Behind those lenses, his eyes rested on her with unreadable calm.
“Uncle, you’re here too?”
Lu Jinxuan hadn’t expected to run into his uncle here and quickly followed him up.
He idolized his uncle, a man of formidable capability despite his youth, who had earned the company’s respect in no time after taking over. His achievements abroad were nothing short of legendary.
No matter how much his mother insisted that the company was partly his and that he should learn the ropes, he never believed he was cut out for business.
Xu Mingyue’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of Lu Tingzhou. She hadn’t expected him to be here. Had Sang Wan come with him?
Had she really latched onto Lu Tingzhou?
But her father had said Sang Wan would never enter the Lu family, at best, she was just a pet bird Lu Tingzhou kept.
Seeing Lu Jinxuan already following, she hurried after him. His mother’s acceptance of her was her greatest confidence.
Shen Yubai swept a glance across the hall and waved dismissively. “Everyone, disperse. I trust you all know what to do.”
Those who could enter the Imperial Club were all influential figures. His words were a clear warning against gossip, after all, Sang Wan stood in the spotlight.
Xu Mingyue tensed at Shen Yubai’s words. Though unwilling, she still sent a message to the paparazzi, canceling today’s operation.
Sang Wan watched as Lu Tingzhou turned and ascended the stairs, step by step.
For some reason, her heartbeat inexplicably synced with his rhythm, rising and falling in tandem.
Supported by Su Mo, Sang Wan had barely stepped into the private room when she froze.
On the central sofa, Lu Tingzhou sat with his long legs crossed, exuding lazy elegance. An unlit cigarette rested between his fingers, his deep gaze fixed indifferently on her.
He sat, she stood. In the interplay of light and shadow, they were separated by a short distance.
A buzzing filled Sang Wan’s mind as his icy words, “I don’t like women with loose legs”, echoed clearly in her ears.
The alcohol in her system evaporated in an instant.
Su Mo, seeing the real Lu Tingzhou for the first time, whispered excitedly into Sang Wan’s ear, “Holy shit, he’s even hotter than online, arrogant yet refined. This kind of restrained, icy man… is usually insatiable and skilled in bed.”
Sang Wan hastily covered her mouth and glanced nervously at Lu Tingzhou ahead. Instinctively straightening her posture, she gave him a polite, distant nod.
“President Lu.”
Her tone was courteous but detached.
“Sit.”
His voice was low, slightly nasal. But in the heavy silence, it rang distinctly in her ears.
After exchanging greetings, Sang Wan no longer paid him any attention. The man was good-looking, she had thought so the first time she saw him, but he wasn’t biting.
What’s more, he seemed to… dislike her.
Hiding up here for a while wasn’t a bad idea. After all, it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble. Otherwise, Bai Wei would have to deal with PR and suppressing trending topics again tomorrow.
She might have enjoyed herself, but dragging Bai Wei into it didn’t seem fair.
Her head was bothering her, so she leaned against Su Mo, listening to her chat with Shen Yubai.
“President Shen, I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Shen Yubai frowned. “You know me?”
Su Mo: “…”
Sang Wan chuckled. “She works in your company’s executive office.”
If Su Mo hadn’t known Shen Yubai’s whereabouts, how could she have gotten intel on Lu Tingzhou’s schedule?
Shen Yubai studied Su Mo for a few seconds. She was flat as a board, not his type, no wonder he hadn’t noticed her before.
“No wonder Miss Sang showed up at the equestrian club yesterday. Turns out there’s a mole in my company.”
Su Mo pouted and muttered, “You were the one loudly announcing you were going horseback riding with President Lu. It’s not like I snooped on purpose.”
Shen Yubai frowned. “You sold out your boss’s whereabouts, and now you’re playing the victim?”
“I was just telling the truth. How does that make me a mole?”
“President Shen, I was the one who asked Momo for help. Don’t take it out on her. And thank you for stepping in earlier. Let me toast you.”
Sang Wan raised a glass. Though she wasn’t afraid of dominating tomorrow’s trending topics, he had still helped her out.
Shen Yubai smirked lazily. “No need for formalities. If your reputation takes a hit, my product sales suffer. Call it mutual benefit.”
Su Mo pursed her lips, feeling a pang of bitterness. She had worked at Shenghong for three years, on the same floor as him, seeing him every single day, yet he didn’t even recognize her.
This…
Lu Tingzhou watched Sang Wan chatting and laughing with Shen Yubai while completely ignoring him, and a sour feeling settled in his chest. He took a sip of his wine.
Song Ze clinked glasses with him, offering a helpless, sympathetic smile.
“Uncle, you haven’t been back to the old house in a while. Grandpa keeps mentioning you.”
Lu Jinxuan had been sitting quietly since he arrived, behaving himself. He was a little in awe of his uncle and didn’t dare act out in front of him.
“Starting tomorrow, you’ll train at the company.”
Lu Tingzhou made the decision outright, his gaze flicking briefly to Xu Mingyue sitting beside him.
Xu Mingyue noticed Lu Tingzhou’s cold stare and felt a jolt of unease. His words were as icy as his demeanor.
Hoping to get closer to Lu Jinxuan, Xu Mingyue mustered her courage and greeted, “Hello, Uncle!”
Lu Tingzhou glanced at Sang Wan, who was sitting properly, and replied coolly, “Don’t call me that. You’re not part of my family.”
Sang Wan stifled a laugh, thinking to herself that this man was destined to die alone.
But seeing Xu Mingyue’s face pale and then flush with embarrassment gave her a deep sense of satisfaction.
Suddenly, a wicked idea popped into her head.
She turned to Lu Jinxuan with a bright, enthusiastic smile.
“Mr. Lu, I heard you own a film production company. If there’s ever an opportunity, I’d love your support.”
Lu Jinxuan had been tense earlier, but when Sang Wan spoke to him, he gradually relaxed.
Last year, he had started a film company with some friends, just for fun, to avoid family control and criticism.
But hearing Sang Wan’s interest now thrilled him. “We’re actually planning to invest in a drama. Would Miss Sang happen to have availability?”
Sang Wan’s gaze flicked subtly toward Xu Mingyue before she smiled and said, “As it happens, I do. I’d love to hear more.”
Su Mo no longer felt restrained around Shen Yubai, since he wouldn’t pay her any attention anyway.
“I heard that the male lead for the drama Young Master Lu’s company is investing in will be Zhuo Fan. Wanwan, this is perfect! So many people still can’t forget the on-screen chemistry between you two as senior and junior.”
At the mention of Zhuo Fan, Su Mo’s face lit up with admiration.
Zhuo Fan was friends with Lu Jinxuan, so this was likely a favor to him.
Shen Yubai remarked with a smirk, “Tsk, if Sang Wan could join too, the collision of two red-hot stars would send this drama trending before it even starts filming.”
“It might very well become our company’s first breakout hit.”
Lu Jinxuan smiled with relaxed confidence, completely oblivious to his uncle’s expression at that moment.
Sang Wan raised her glass, her gaze briefly sweeping past Xu Mingyue before lifting it toward Lu Jinxuan. “Young Master Lu, looking forward to working together.”
Xu Mingyue caught the faint smirk in Sang Wan’s eyes, she was deliberately getting close to Lu Jinxuan. The thought made Xu Mingyue grit her teeth in frustration.
Lu Jinxuan beamed. “I’ll have the director contact you tomorrow.”
Shen Yubai nudged Lu Tingzhou, lowering his voice with a roguish grin. “You’re not interested, but your nephew seems quite enthusiastic about Sang Wan.”
Lu Tingzhou took a slow drag of his cigarette, exhaling a cloud of smoke that obscured his emotions, making it impossible to read the depths of his eyes behind his glasses.
“Since when did your smoking habit get so bad?”
Song Ze clinked his glass against Lu Tingzhou’s, who raised it and took a sip.
Truthfully, he wasn’t a heavy smoker, only lighting up when irritated. Right now, he just wanted to smoke.
The little girl hadn’t spared him a single glance since walking in, chatting and laughing with his nephew instead. Of course, it bothered him.
Song Ze sighed inwardly, feeling a pang of sympathy for his friend. At the same time, he thought Sang Wan seemed happier now, free from the pain of the past.
In that sense, he understood Lu Tingzhou, and it was precisely this understanding that made him ache for his brother.
“It’s getting late. Miss Xu looks bored. Since you brought her, you should take her home.”
Lu Jinxuan was in the middle of discussing the production team with Sang Wan when Lu Tingzhou suddenly spoke.
Song Ze shook his head slightly, the wine in his mouth unswallowed. From the day Lu Tingzhou returned to the country, he knew the surface calm was about to shatter.
Lu Jinxuan met Lu Tingzhou’s gaze and froze for a second before explaining, “I didn’t bring her. We just ran into each other at the door.”
Xu Mingyue pouted. “Auntie Sun asked me to come hang out with you.”
At the mention of his mother, Lu Jinxuan sighed. “Stop digging into my preferences and whereabouts through my mom. I don’t like you.”
No one had ever rejected her so bluntly to her face. Xu Mingyue’s pride stung, especially when she caught the faint smile on Sang Wan’s lips.
“Jinxuan, we haven’t spent much time together yet. In the future-”
“Get out.”
Lu Tingzhou had no patience for their back-and-forth and directly dismissed them.
Flustered, Lu Jinxuan quickly pulled out his phone and approached Sang Wan. “Miss Sang, let’s exchange contacts. I’ll introduce the director to you.”
Sang Wan generously took out her phone and scanned his code, smiling. “Thank you, Young Master Lu!”
Lu Jinxuan glanced at Lu Tingzhou’s stormy expression and hastily left.
Xu Mingyue shot Sang Wan a glare before hurrying after him.
With them gone, Sang Wan suddenly found the whole affair dull, especially in the face of that still-frosty expression, which left her feeling defeated.
“Momo, let’s go.”
Su Mo blinked and whispered, “Such a great opportunity, and you’re giving up?”
She knew Sang Wan well, earlier, she had only proposed collaborating with Lu Jinxuan to spite Xu Mingyue.
In her understanding, Sang Wan was doing this to keep tabs on Lu Tingzhou’s movements, after all, he was his nephew.
“I’m tired, I want to sleep.”
Thinking about what happened during the day, Su Mo nodded, “Wait a moment, I’ll call a designated driver.”
Shen Yubai raised an eyebrow. “Two girls calling a designated driver late at night isn’t very safe.”
He gave a suggestive smirk, leaning closer to Sang Wan and lowering his voice to a volume only the two of them could hear, teasing,
“Miss Celebrity Sang? Giving up on Lu Tingzhou, that thousand-year-old block of ice?”
