The Immortal’s "White Moonlight" Reborn - Chapter 43
The transformation happened in the blink of an eye; her Senior Sister had already let her clothes slip away.
Lin Shu’s face was terrifyingly pale. Fearing that something might actually go wrong if this continued, Wen Qiwu tempered her words and stopped poking at the other woman’s scars. However, business was business as long as Wen Qiwu was around, Lin Shu could forget about obtaining the Demonic Realm’s secret arts from Yun Heng.
“I know the forbidden arts of the Demonic Realm are not a perfect solution, but as of now, I have no other way. It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t want to see me; I just want her to come back to life…” Lin Shu closed her eyes in agony. She hadn’t lost her mind yet, and the root of her pain came from her very clarity. After Wen Qiwu laid out the stakes, she naturally understood the impropriety of her actions; she simply wasn’t willing to give up that sliver of hope.
The forbidden arts of the Demonic Realm were nothing good. She thought she could find a way to erase the negative effects or perhaps transfer the price onto the caster. She believed there would always be a way.
But Yun Heng had invested decades into this secret art and had failed to find a solution. The hope was, in reality, incredibly slim.
The young lady before her was right. To resurrect such a proud person as a monster—neither human nor ghost, Zuo Lan would likely choose self-destruction over lingering in the world. Lin Shu understood her stubborn temper.
Because she understood, Lin Shu realized that Wen Qiwu’s words were not alarmist. This method would not work.
“Does the Immortal Sovereign have any other suggestions?” She could only pin her last hope on Yun Heng.
Unfortunately, Yun Heng shook her head.
Trembling slightly, Lin Shu offered a bow. After a word of thanks, she turned to leave. Her retreating figure looked lonely, like a sharp sword on the verge of snapping.
“If you aren’t afraid of danger, you can try searching the Endless Sea of Trees. Ancient records mention that ten thousand years ago, a True Immortal senior who had experienced the ‘Nine Deaths and Return to Life’ perished there. That senior might have what you’re looking for. The location is to the west of the Phoenix Lord’s Tomb.” Wen Qiwu suddenly called out to her.
Lin Shu stopped in her tracks. She first looked stunned, but once she processed what Wen Qiwu was saying, a flash of joy immediately filled her eyes. Subsequently, the Immortal Lord ignored her usual meticulous etiquette and, after a hasty thanks to Wen Qiwu, hurried away.
Provided it didn’t involve any of that messy business, Wen Qiwu naturally hoped Lin Shu could successfully bring Zuo Lan back to life. But the prerequisite was that it had to be done through the righteous path; otherwise, it would only harm both the self and others.
“Finally gone,” Yun Heng sighed softly. She carefully wrapped her arms around her Junior Sister’s waist, her movements exceptionally tender. “Is there really a method for resurrection in that tomb?”
Many things recorded in such ancient texts are exaggerated or false. Yun Heng used to treat them only as stories to tell her Junior Sister. As for whether there was any truth to it, it still needed verification. However, knowing her Junior Sister’s character, since she had told Lin Shu about it, she must have some degree of certainty.
“I heard from a friend that it’s there. She entered once before, but unfortunately, the way that immortal chooses an inheritor is quite harsh; she almost lost her life there.” The friend Wen Qiwu mentioned was Gao Fu. She was quite lucky; when she escaped the Immortal’s Tomb, Gao Fu was down to her last breath. It just so happened that she encountered Wen Qiwu, who was emerging from the center of the Endless Sea of Trees, thus saving her life.
Thinking of her sudden disappearance, her friend must be worried sick. Wen Qiwu had tried to send a message to Gao Fu to report her safety, but she hadn’t received a reply yet.
So that was it. But…
“A friend?” Her Junior Sister had never left the Eastern Zhao Territory since she was a child. Making a friend after coming out of the Endless Sea of Trees must be a recent development.
“Her name is Gao Fu, from a cultivation clan in the Vast Sea Territory. I met her right when I came out of the Endless Sea of Trees.” Out of habit formed since childhood, Wen Qiwu briefly explained the identity of this new friend. “This time, I was snatched back by that child A-Yue. I disappeared before I even had the chance to say a word to her. She must be frantic.”
Wen Qiwu sighed. She glanced at the sky, then turned to Yun Heng. “Your injuries haven’t healed yet. It’s time to apply the medicine.”
Heaven’s Punishment had been aimed at taking Yun Heng’s life. Even a True Immortal body was left riddled with wounds. These past few days, Wen Qiwu had been helping her Senior Sister change the medicine. Now that her Senior Sister was awake, applying the medicine again… Wen Qiwu felt a bit self-conscious.
Yun Heng interlocked her fingers with her Junior Sister’s and was obediently led back to the room. Wen Qiwu brought out the medicine prepared by the Medical Immortal. Corrosive lingering forces remained in her Senior Sister’s wounds, making them difficult to heal. Therefore, they had to follow the doctor’s orders and change the medicine three times a day.
Yun Heng took off her outer robe. At this point, the traces of wounds were faintly visible on her neck and wrists. It was much better now; during those first few days, Wen Qiwu had almost cried every single time she applied the medicine.
Wen Qiwu took out the ointment for external use. She didn’t expect that in the time it took her to turn around, her Senior Sister would have removed another layer. She saw her Senior Sister’s skin, so fair it was almost translucent, yet so beautiful it took one’s breath away.
Clearly, she had changed her Senior Sister’s medicine every day before, yet her heart hadn’t raced like this then. What was wrong today? Why was her heart feeling a bit out of control?
Because she had recently offered her heart’s blood, Wen Qiwu hurriedly averted her gaze, fearing her heart might not be able to take it.
“Here is the medicine.” Wen Qiwu shoved the medicine into her Senior Sister’s hand, the faint blush on her face not escaping Yun Heng’s eyes.
Yun Heng couldn’t help but let out a smile. She wanted to touch her Junior Sister’s face, but the shy little Phoenix alertly dodged away.
Yun Heng felt a bit of regret, but a little Phoenix who wants to hide cannot be caught. She couldn’t rush things now, so she could only open the ointment and apply it to her own wounds. Her injuries weren’t fully healed, and she was in pain all over, but the joy in her heart made Yun Heng almost forget the physical ache.
Something in the ointment made it quite irritating to the wounds, making the application even more painful. Yet even so, the curve of Yun Heng’s lips remained upward.
Today was the happiest day she’d had in a hundred years, so beautiful it felt fake. She had suffered too much over the years, so she often doubted if she was dreaming. This pain served as a reminder that this wasn’t a dream; everything was real. Her Junior Sister was back, and her nightmare was over.
Yun Heng was in a good mood until the little Phoenix beside her, who was pretending to be busy to hide her embarrassment, received a letter.
It was a reply from Gao Fu. It seemed she hadn’t left the Endless Sea of Trees yet; otherwise, Wen Qiwu’s message-carrying spirit sparrow wouldn’t have found her so quickly.
“Qiwu! I’m relieved to hear you’re alright. Don’t worry about coming to find me; handle your own affairs first. The Myriad Forest Territory will be open for a while yet; no rush. If there’s an emergency, I can come find you just the same.”
Gao Fu had been terrified lately. Wen Qiwu had vanished without a trace; she was on the verge of calling people from the Vast Sea Territory to search the entire Myriad Forest. She didn’t dare wander too far, fearing Wen Qiwu would return and not find her.
Yun Heng heard every word the other person said. The way that person addressed her Junior Sister was exceptionally intimate. Didn’t her Junior Sister say they had only known each other for a few days? Their relationship had already become so close. Yun Heng felt the ointment in her hand no longer tasted of bitterness, but of jealousy.
Wen Qiwu conjured a spirit sparrow and recorded her voice into it.
[“A-Fu, I’m about to set off for the Endless Sea of Trees. By the time you receive this sparrow, I should be nearly there…”]
Wen Qiwu had just recorded two sentences when she heard her Senior Sister, who was applying medicine nearby, let out a sharp intake of breath.
She hastily set the spirit sparrow aside and rushed to Yun Heng’s side. “What is it? Does it hurt somewhere?”
“The medicine is a bit painful on the wounds.” The formidable woman who hadn’t even blinked when Heaven’s Punishment struck her now looked more fragile than a delicate flower. As the ointment touched her skin, she trembled slightly, as if it truly hurt terribly.
Wen Qiwu was most susceptible to this. She took the ointment and carefully applied it to her Senior Sister’s wounds, blowing gently as she worked. The matter of replying to the letter was tossed to the back of her mind, and who knows when she would remember it again.
“Does it hurt like this? Should I be even lighter?” Wen Qiwu asked while applying it gently.
“This is much better.” After all, with her Junior Sister personally applying it, even if a chunk were shoved into Yun Heng’s mouth, she would probably think it was sweet.
Wen Qiwu’s concern led to distraction. It was only after she had finished coating her Senior Sister’s shoulders that she realized her Senior Sister had removed all her upper clothing, using only a thin quilt for a meager cover.
The little Phoenix, realizing this, had ears so red they looked ready to bleed. Her hand, stained with ointment, trembled slightly, accidentally pressing a bit too hard on Yun Heng’s wound.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Did I hurt you?” Wen Qiwu hurriedly blew on it.
Her breath was like a soft feather; the only sensation remaining on Yun Heng’s wound was a tingling itch.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore.” Yun Heng moved her body slightly, and the thin quilt almost slipped down. Blushing, Wen Qiwu quickly wrapped her Senior Sister up in the quilt.
Was her Senior Sister testing her self-control?
“A-Que, I can’t reach the medicine on my back. Can you help me?” Yun Heng lifted her long hair, revealing her fair but scar-covered back.
Her body had grown much thinner; it was hard to imagine how she had endured these injuries.
Wen Qiwu reached out and gently stroked the wounds on her back. Seeing those terrifying marks, her flirtatious thoughts were swept away, leaving only heartache.
She took some ointment and applied it slowly. When Wen Qiwu reached the most severe injury, she blew on it gently while she rubbed.
She was extremely close to her Senior Sister; her breath was still warm as it landed on Yun Heng’s back.
It felt as if her Junior Sister were kissing her wounds. Yun Heng closed her eyes, the tips of her ears turning red. This time, her body truly trembled; it was no longer an act.
Wen Qiwu simply thought her Senior Sister’s wounds were hurting, so she even lightened her breathing. Little did she know that for her Senior Sister, this was a different kind of “tormen,t” though it was a “torment” Yun Heng was more than happy to accept.
