- Having Played the Villain for Ten Years, I Came Back
- Chapter 23 - Confession and Retribution
The sprawling villa grew quiet, and the kitchen staff exchanged nervous glances.
They had lost count of how many times someone had been rushed to the hospital in the past month or two. This time, the Mistress’s condition seemed far more severe than ever before. It was truly terrifying.
Even stranger was the silence in the dining room. The Eldest Young Master and his… “companion” had been sitting there in total silence for a long time.
What are they doing? Playing the quiet game? Are they really that childish?
Gu Chi hadn’t initially reacted, but as Wen Linyu remained silent, the reality of the situation slowly began to sink in.
His face remained expressionless, but his heart was in a state of utter panic. It’s over. I’m not prepared. I haven’t even regained my reputation with my little disciple yet, and I haven’t even.
At that thought, the first thing out of Gu Chi’s mouth was: “I was wrong.”
Wen Linyu: “…” He hadn’t even said anything yet. Moreover, his Teacher. actually, apologized to him?
How should he respond? Say “it’s okay”? Would that be too easy? If things were obtained too easily, would they be discarded just as easily?
He didn’t want a momentary whim from his Teacher.
Seeing Linyu remain silent, Gu Chi grew even more anxious. “I really was wrong.”
He began pacing around Linyu in circles. He was terrified that Linyu would hate him for this. He truly had no experience in apologizing; after all, before this, no one had ever dared to demand a “sorry” from him.
“How could Teacher ever be wrong?” Wen Linyu lowered his head and bit his lip as he replied.
Gu Chi couldn’t see Linyu’s expression. Hearing those words, guilt flooded his chest, and he felt like stabbing himself a few times. As the teacher Linyu trusted most, how could he have hurt him?
Then, Wen Linyu suddenly said: “It’s because I haven’t learned well yet.”
He was responding to Gu Chi’s earlier remark about him being soft-hearted. Gu Chi only took the literal meaning, assuming Linyu thought he was being scolded again. “I wasn’t blaming you.”
998 let out a string of “tsk”s. So stupid! ‘Not learned well yet’ means he wants you to keep teaching him! You can’t even hear that?
That damn expert didn’t teach a single thing about real romance. You got scammed so hard!
“What expert?” Wen Linyu heard the System and asked in his mind.
The System had no intention of covering for Gu Chi. It spilled the beans immediately, telling Linyu everything about Gu Chi spending money on a relationship consultant.
After hearing it, Wen Linyu was a bit angry, but also a bit happy.
He was angry that a scammer had swindled his Teacher, but he was happy because the depth of Teacher’s concern for him clearly went beyond a mere whim. If it were just a whim, why would he care if Linyu felt sad or wronged? Why would he go to such lengths to make amends and beg for forgiveness?
A smile finally touched Wen Linyu’s lips.
Seeing him smile, Gu Chi breathed a sigh of relief. He’s not angry anymore? But then, on second thought, he felt that relief was premature.
Why isn’t he angry? Just because I’m his ‘Teacher’?
For some reason, even though the “Teacher” and “Gu Chi” were both him, he felt a surge of jealousy toward his own identity.
Gu Chi couldn’t help but ask: “Ayu, aren’t you angry?”
Wen Linyu was taken aback. This was the first time he had heard Gu Chi call him that. It was so intimate; in the beginning, Teacher used to call him “little waste.”
A smile reached Linyu’s eyes. “How could I be angry?”
He truly wasn’t.
But Gu Chi was dissatisfied. Why isn’t he angry? Is he just that obedient? No matter what I do, it’s okay?
“Ayu, you can be angry. You have the right to be angry with me,” Gu Chi said.
Wen Linyu froze. This time, he didn’t think Gu Chi was being nonsensical; he understood the meaning. Don’t treat me like a god just because I’m your teacher. Don’t accept everything without regret. You can be angry, and you can have any emotion, negative or positive.
In front of Gu Chi, he could show joy, anger, sorrow, or delight. He could be unrestrained. Just as Gu Chi had once taught him, he should be a living person with a “self,” not just an obedient disciple.
Teacher. was truly wonderful.
However, upon closer inspection, he actually was a bit angry. He was angry that Gu Chi had hidden his identity for so long and hadn’t come clean even after finding him, causing Linyu to loathe him for such a long time.
Wen Linyu gave Gu Chi a couple of dissatisfied glares.
Only then did Gu Chi feel at ease.
998 marveled at the scene. Confirmed: this guy has a total masochist streak! He’s unhappy when smiled at, but feels great when he’s glared at or scolded. What a total pervert!
Now that things were out in the open, Gu Chi felt refreshed. Even if Wen Linyu was angry, it was clear and honest. Looking back, what on earth had he been doing?
Gu Chi finally realized—he had been scammed!
He was furious. He, the Great Demon Lord, had actually been tricked! Wen Linyu was right there; Gu Chi didn’t want to lose face in front of him, so he kept the realization quiet, though he ground his back teeth until they creaked.
Fine, very good. I’ll remember you, you “expert”!
Fortunately, he wasn’t truly stupid. That scammer thought a verbal promise was just talk? I’m coming for his life tonight!
With Lin Wanxiu in the hospital, no one would be coming back to the villa for a while.
Wen Linyu stayed home and took Gu Chi to the wide forest in the backyard to plant vegetables.
An apology required a proper attitude, and Gu Chi was very proactive. He did whatever Linyu told him to do. With his stamina, this bit of work didn’t tire him at all; having never done manual labor personally, he even felt a bit of novelty in it.
The vegetables they planted weren’t ordinary ones. They were spirit plants from Gu Chi’s own treasury—plants that didn’t exist in Wen Linyu’s world.
When Gu Chi opened his spatial bag and pulled out prepared dishes that were still steaming hot, Linyu realized that the man had even brought his favorite foods with him.
Not only were there finished meals, but even the spirit seeds were prepared.
Wen Linyu had to try very hard to keep his mouth from curling up. My Teacher… how could I not love him?
Even if he was a bit dense and a bit silly in some ways.
After working all morning, Wen Linyu called Gu Chi to the kitchen at noon to cook dinner.
Gu Chi suspected his little disciple was mocking him—after all, the meal he’d made before was a disaster, yet he had been foolish enough to trust the scammer and give it to Linyu.
The thought made him fuming. He had already lost so much face!
Fine, just wait. Tonight, I will torture that scammer until he begs for the mercy of death!
Wen Linyu turned and gave Gu Chi a strange look. Why is he wearing an expression like he wants to eat someone? Occasionally, he still couldn’t read him. Was it because the previous cooking failure had left him traumatized by kitchens?
But he wasn’t asking him to cook; he just wanted to make a few dishes they both liked to share between the two of them.
Fortunately, though Gu Chi’s expression was difficult to read, he didn’t quit. He stayed and helped obediently while Linyu slowly prepared lunch.
The dining room was empty, and with no one to disturb them, Wen Linyu finally had a meal alone with Gu Chi.
Eating a meal made by Wen Linyu’s own hands, Gu Chi’s mood was bubbling with joy. But the happier he felt, the more he ground his teeth in hatred for that cursed scammer!
Thus, that very night.
While the “Relationship Expert” was sleeping soundly in his bed, a dark shadow suddenly appeared by his bedside. A voice like a demon’s whisper echoed in the room:
“How can you still sleep?”
