- Chapter 45 - The Seven Orifices Bleeding, Die With Remaining Regret, Dead Within Seven Steps Pill
Immortal Shen and her companions were about to depart from Taiyin.
After the Divine Sacrifice concluded, Shen Fuxin sent word to the princesses, stating that her tasks in Taiyin were complete. Having witnessed the sacrifice, she had no further regrets, and therefore, they were leaving.
Chu Huaizhuang had been heavy-hearted for the past two days. Upon learning that the immortals were leaving, she felt a tightness in her chest. Once they departed, they would likely never return. The divide between immortal and mortal was vast; once the thread of fate was snapped, she might never see them again for the rest of her life.
Since their arrival, Taiyin seemed to have improved. The loathsome Chu Tian was dead, and the male God of War enshrined in every household had been replaced by the original Wuzhen. The Empress Mother had introduced new regulations, further tightening the conditions for men entering Taiyin to the point of extreme severity. Once the Crown Princess ascended the throne, she would follow the heavenly will of Taiyin and completely sever the entry of men.
Men had short lifespans. Within a few decades, the men currently within the borders would pass away. By the time her Imperial Sister took the throne, Taiyin would return to the pristine state of its ancestors. It was a pity Immortal Shen and the others were leaving so soon and would not stay to witness such a glorious era.
Chu Huaizhuang sighed deeply, preparing to leave the palace to see them off. Just as she stepped out of the hall, she saw Chu Huaijing and Chu Huailing waiting for her.
Having sisters was wonderful in moments like this. Chu Huaizhuang happily boarded the carriage prepared by her elder sister and accepted the iced drink handed over by her younger sister. Chu Tian’s corpse was likely rotting away by now, no longer able to interfere with their lives. Life could not get any better than this.
Shen Fuxin’s small courtyard was filled with pomegranates, their round shapes extending over the courtyard walls. It looked ordinary and cozy, possessing more warmth than the immortal dwellings described in storybooks. As if knowing Chu Huaizhuang and the others would come, the courtyard gate was not closed, leaving a small crack for them.
Chu Huailing pushed the door open. No one was in the courtyard. Three pomegranates were placed neatly on the small stone table.
“They have already left,” Chu Huailing said, examining the pomegranates. “They left not long ago. The stems of these pomegranates are still fresh and moist.”
Every story in the world has a day when it must end. What many people find melancholic is not the loneliness of only meeting in dreams after parting, but the heavy heart of riding out to the mountain pass to see someone off. Chu Huaijing nodded and sighed softly. “The immortals likely feared our sadness at parting, so they chose to leave early.”
Since they could not see them off, Chu Huaizhuang chose to look on the bright side. She picked up a pomegranate from the table and began to peel it. “The pomegranates were likely left for us specifically. We should not waste the immortals’ kindness. Let us eat them while they are still fresh. Wait, what is this?”
Chu Huaijing and Chu Huailing leaned in to look. The pomegranate in Chu Huaizhuang’s palm was fresh and beautiful, with seeds as red as jewels. But right in the middle of those seeds, a tiny golden pill was wedged. They peeled the remaining two, finding identical immortal pills.
On the empty stone table, a note had been left behind.
“Already gone, do not worry, eat while fresh? If there is a future, we shall meet again?”
The handwriting was very scrawled, and it took them a great deal of effort to decipher it. They rolled up the note. Even their farewell was very much in the style of Immortal Shen.
“So, what is the effect of those pills?” Ji Ting asked Shen Fuxin, tilting her head as they traveled through the teleportation array. “I saw you leave the pills for them.”
In the Divine Realm, such things were not particularly rare, but in the mortal world, they were extraordinary.
Shen Fuxin thought about the pills. She had prepared them a few days ago, following the recipe for Longevity Pills found in an ancient manual. She had failed a few times. The first few attempts would have granted mortals immortality or added a thousand years to their lives, which felt a bit excessive. These three pills she produced later were much more restrained, adding only a hundred years. That was quite reasonable.
“Just Longevity Pills,” Shen Fuxin said. “Did you not say you wanted to return to Taiyin to see them again someday?”
Ji Ting was momentarily stunned. After saying this, Shen Fuxin offered no further comment and instead urged her to make the barrier more stable. The place where her father had been reborn this time was so distant that it was not even within this Three Thousand World. She had to hurry. If she could not kill him personally, would it not be a waste of a reincarnation?
After the Divine Sacrifice that day, Ji Ting seemed to be hiding something from them. Following her habit, Shen Fuxin did not ask. As soon as they returned, she sensed her father’s spiritual energy beginning to fluctuate. After two days of preparation and informing Chu Huaizhuang and the others, they prepared to move. They had gained much in Taiyin and finished everything they needed to do. Leaving after the Divine Sacrifice was already a bit of a delay.
The wind howled outside the teleportation array. It was fortunate they had successfully helped Shen Sha’s body develop spiritual veins before leaving. Otherwise, they might not have been able to transfer her from this world to another.
The mortal world consisted of three thousand layers, each independent of the others, collectively known as the Human Realm. This was a heavenly secret known only to the immortals of the Celestial and Divine Realms. All mortals believed the land beneath their feet reached the end of the world, but this was not the case. Those who ascended could look back from the Heavenly Steps and see countless worlds scattered below like stars, weaving into a terrestrial Milky Way.
Ji Ting had not recovered her memories, her divine soul seemed damaged, and her spiritual energy was unstable. After some shaking and swaying, the three of them stepped out of the barrier and arrived at a completely new and unknown continent.
The first thing that caught their eyes was a silver waterfall cascading down three thousand feet. This waterfall was magnificent, surrounded by countless glowing fireflies by the water. Pink wildflowers grew among the bushes, looking no different from an ordinary mortal landscape, if not for the sharp sword intent shooting out from above the waterfall.
Shen Fuxin looked up at these streaks of sword intent. For a moment, she felt as if she had returned to the Qingdi Spirit Mountain of her previous life. The spiritual energy in this world was slightly more abundant, so it was no wonder cultivators appeared here. Shen Fuxin looked around and realized a massive barrier formation also covered the area above their heads.
She narrowed her eyes. Compared to the one at Qingdi Spirit Mountain, this formation was much simpler. It contained familiar spiritual techniques, but she had never studied formations, so she could not understand how it operated.
“Where is this place?” Shen Sha asked, feeling like a fish back in water upon arriving in a place with more spiritual energy. “So much spiritual energy.”
“The spiritual energy in the Celestial and Divine Realms is enough to choke ten thousand of you,” Shen Fuxin said, withdrawing her gaze from the formation. “I do not know where this is either. I simply followed my father’s spiritual energy.”
However, in the next moment, they learned exactly where they were.
“Who goes there, daring to trespass into the Qingwu Sect!”
Shen Fuxin understood. Ignoring the sword intent flying toward them, she turned to Shen Sha. “This is the Qingwu Sect.”
Shen Sha was amazed by her calmness. “But we have trespassed into someone’s sect.”
Shen Fuxin blinked in surprise. “So what?”
The owner of the sword intent was a young woman in white. Her long hair was tied up with a wooden hairpin, and her expression was cold. She held two long swords, being a cultivator who used dual blades. Seeing that the three trespassers remained standing there with an indifferent air, rage surged in her heart. Her sword intent lashed out like a ribbon toward Shen Fuxin. Her swords were not just long but also flexible. When they struck, they were like white snakes baring their fangs, their massive shadows instantly enveloping Shen Fuxin.
Shen Fuxin said, “Sword, come.”
She stood her ground without moving a muscle, allowing the young woman’s sword shadows to reflect in her pale eyes. At the same time, countless long swords erupted from Shen Fuxin’s body, lunging toward the stunned woman in white.
How could those two long swords compete with Shen Fuxin’s sword array? Seeing her sword tips nearly turning the person in white into a pincushion, Shen Fuxin pulled back just in time. She had no grudge against this person. Killing was not necessary for Shen Fuxin, though she would not hesitate if the woman dared to resist again.
The young woman in white collapsed to the ground, coughing several times. She looked up with difficulty at the person in green standing before her. She had seen it clearly just now. This person had not even lifted a finger, yet countless identical long swords had been released from her body. Although this person had held back and not allowed the swords to pierce her, the sheer force of the sword intent had seeped into her internal organs. She did not need to check to know her internal organs were severely injured.
Blood clots leaked from her clenched lips. This would not do; she would die. She had to find her Master for healing. She forced down the urge to cough, her consciousness fading. Suddenly, she heard someone click their tongue.
The figure in green moved. She walked straight over, grabbed the young woman’s collar, lifted her up, and stuffed something into her mouth.
“Mortals really die so easily.”
Shen Fuxin let go, letting the young woman in white slide back down. The person on the ground began to cough violently, spitting out a puddle of dark blood. But when she looked up again, her eyes were clear. The signs of impending death vanished, and her face even regained a healthy glow. “What, what did you give me?”
Shen Fuxin said seriously, “The Seven Orifices Bleeding, Die With Remaining Regret, Dead Within Seven Steps Pill. Try moving again and see what happens.”
The person lying on the ground shook her head weakly. “You are lying to me. I feel like the injuries to my internal organs have been healed.”
“Is it not more interesting to let you die in good health after being healed?” Shen Fuxin crouched down, resting her chin on her hand as she watched her. “I am not lying to you.”
It was not a funny joke, yet the person lying there laughed. She looked very young. By the standards of an ordinary mortal, she appeared to be in her twenties. When she smiled, a shallow dimple appeared on her left cheek.
Shen Sha and Ji Ting watched Shen Fuxin and the girl in silence, both falling into an eerie quiet. When she was at Qingdi Spirit Mountain, did she treat her Crown Princess Senior Sister the same way?
Ji Ting did not know what to feel. Xiao Fu was truly an unpredictable person. If this were the case, she might have found the reason why that peacock named Yu was always so gloomily obsessed with her. She realized she had to do something. She stepped forward, shielding Shen Fuxin, and smiled at the person on the ground. “Fellow cultivator, we mean no harm. We simply arrived here by chance.”
The person on the ground looked entirely unconvinced. “Fellow cultivator, do you know that no one has taken the initiative to visit our sect in ten years?”
Ji Ting maintained her smile. “It is indeed quite remote, which is why I said it was by chance.”
“No, that is not it,” the young woman in white sighed and climbed to her feet. “Forget it, this has nothing to do with you anyway. You definitely did not enter our sect through normal means. Since you are here, stay and keep us company.”
These words sounded somewhat eerie. Shen Sha crossed her arms, her curiosity piqued. “Are you not humans, but ghosts?”
“It does not matter if we are humans or ghosts; it is almost the same anyway,” she rubbed her face. “My name is Jiang Daileng. Follow me; we shall go meet my Master together.”
