Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 56
They didn’t rest for long. Shi Wangui wanted to see the sunrise, so Wen Youren sat by the edge of the bed, watching her until it was time. She gently nudged her. “Do you still want to see the sunrise?”
Shi Wangui was exhausted. The emotional upheaval of the previous day had left her body weak, and she had spent the night trapped in nightmares about Shi Qin and Wen Yiyue getting married. But those weren’t just nightmares; they were reality.
“I’m getting up… let’s go,” Shi Wangui murmured groggily.
A moment later, she sat up straight and leaned limply against Wen Youren. “Let’s go. Depart.”
“Okay,” Wen Youren replied.
There was a low mountain not far from their place. The ground was covered in snow, and although it was the early hours of the morning, the white snow made everything look bright. They chose to walk.
Wen Youren felt a surge of anxiety. The wound on her pinky finger had formed a light scab. When she had been alone on the balcony yesterday, those old feelings of terror had returned, and her body had instinctively harmed itself. However, she felt better than she used to; at least now, she had someone to care for.
“I saw the wound on your finger.” Shi Wangui circled around to Wen Youren’s other side. She stopped for a moment to look at it, then took Wen Youren’s hand, gently rubbing her own pinky against it. “I don’t know why you self-harm sometimes. Most of the time you’re so normal, like a mature older sister. But I think you must have your reasons. That’s why I want to study psychology. Didn’t I say I’d take responsibility for you for the rest of my life? Then I’ll be your antidote forever.”
“Shi Wangui, you aren’t childish at all,” Wen Youren said.
Shi Wangui stopped in her tracks, frowning even as she smiled. “I was never childish.”
They continued walking. The freshly fallen snow had not yet been stepped on; it was a thin, pristine layer that crunched softly under their feet. Wen Youren tucked Shi Wangui’s hand into her own pocket. They walked very close together, their hearts beating in sync as their love deepened.
Before long, they reached the foothills. Fortunately, the sun had not yet risen and the snow had stopped. In a twist of fate, they weren’t the only ones there; two other women were also waiting for the sunrise.
On a day meant for family reunions, it was rare to see people out alone. Both pairs looked at each other with a hint of surprise before nodding and smiling in greeting.
Shi Wangui was cold. She was wearing Wen Youren’s scarf, but the thin cotton jacket she wore was no match for the freezing temperature. She leaned into Wen Youren’s embrace, holding her tightly.
Wen Youren had recently cut her hair short out of frustration. Wearing a mask, glasses, and a black coat, she exuded a faint, cool handsomeness.
Seeing them huddled so close, the woman with long hair from the other pair took the initiative to say hello. “Are you here for the sunrise? Not many people choose today to come out.”
“Yes,” Wen Youren replied. “Aren’t you two the same?”
The woman seemed taken away for a second by the response, then she extended her hand with a smile. “Hello, my name is Chang Yue. This is my partner, Wu Yingxuan.”
Shi Wangui peeked out from Wen Youren’s chest and shook Chang Yue’s hand. “Hello, I’m Shi Wangui, and this is my partner, Wen Youren.”
Chang Yue laughed. “You both look quite young. Are you still in school?”
“Yes,” Shi Wangui said. “We’re students at No. 1 High.”
“That’s wonderful,” Chang Yue said warmly. “We also got together in high school. Now we’re starting a business together.”
“Wow,” Shi Wangui said, impressed. “Are you successful yet?”
“I suppose you could call it a success,” Chang Yue replied gently.
They were all strangers meeting by chance, so the conversation remained polite and brief.
Wen Youren turned to Wu Yingxuan. “Hello, could I add you on WeChat? I’m a student at No. 1 High. My grades are high enough for University A, and I plan to go there in the future. I’d like to add a senior ahead of time. I hope you won’t refuse; perhaps you could give me some guidance later on.”
University A was a world-renowned institution far from their city. Usually, only the top three students from their school had a real shot at getting in. Wen Youren spoke with total confidence in herself and a keen eye for opportunity.
As for Wu Yingxuan, Wen Youren recognized her. She was a distinguished alumna of University A. Not everyone made it onto the school’s Wall of Honor, and since there were so few from their local area, Wen Youren had naturally remembered her.
Wu Yingxuan was surprised. “How did you know I went to University A?” Even as she spoke, she took out her phone, scanned Wen Youren’s QR code, and added her as a friend.
Wen Youren put her phone away. “I had the honor of seeing your name on the school’s Wall of Honor.”
“She’s actually on the Wall of Honor?” Chang Yue teased, then looked Wen Youren over. “Actually, you two are quite similar.”
Shi Wangui curiously looked back and forth between them to compare. Hmm, Wen Youren is definitely prettier, she thought with a giggle.
The sky gradually grew brighter and turned a pale yellow. The weak winter sun didn’t provide much warmth, but they bore witness to the darkness slowly fading away.
The sound of firecrackers drifted from the distance. Since the start of New Year’s Eve, the noise had been constant, but now that it was morning, the explosions grew louder.
Shi Wangui and Wen Youren moved a short distance away from the other two women, the two couples giving each other space.
Despite the cold, it felt like freedom. Shi Wangui leaned back into Wen Youren’s arms, watching the sun crest the horizon. “I’m happy,” she said.
Wen Youren looked down and hugged her tighter. “As long as you’re happy.”
However, a flicker of worry crossed Shi Wangui’s mind. She had left her aunt’s house last night without saying anything. After meeting up with Wen Youren, she had turned off her phone so no one could reach her. She wondered if her aunt was worried.
Her expression clouded over as she looked up. “Do you think I did something wrong? I didn’t tell Auntie I was coming to find you. Will she be worried?”
Wen Youren smiled. “I told your aunt as soon as I picked you up. She isn’t worried.”
Her aunt had known the moment Shi Wangui ran out. She also had Wen Youren’s contact information, so she had asked Wen Youren to send her a message once they were together, keeping the secret for them.
Shi Wangui beamed. “Auntie knows?”
“Yes,” Wen Youren nodded. “To me, your happiness is more important than being ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ Don’t worry about making mistakes. I’ll handle everything for you.”
Overwhelmed with emotion, Shi Wangui looked up, her eyes squinting against the brilliant sky. As sunlight hit the snow, Wen Youren leaned down and kissed her. It was a soft, shallow kiss, a gentle friction of lips that didn’t spark physical desire but instead stirred the deepest feelings in their hearts.
A click sounded. They looked up to see that Chang Yue had produced a camera at some point and snapped a photo of them.
Seeing she had been caught, Chang Yue smiled. “It looks beautiful. The photo will be ready in a moment, and you can take it with you.”
“Thank you,” Wen Youren said.
“We’re heading down soon,” Chang Yue added. “You two should head back soon as well. It snowed yesterday and no one has cleared the paths yet. Be careful on the way back.”
“Thank you. You take care too. I hope we meet again,” Wen Youren said.
“I look forward to it,” Wu Yingxuan added.
The photo finished developing. Because it was cold, it took a while of holding it in their hands for the image to appear. Shi Wangui took the photo and studied it for a long time. By chance, the photo captured the exact moment the sun appeared. Bathed in sunlight, the two of them leaned on each other as if the entire world belonged to them.
Shi Wangui waved. “Thank you for the photo. We love it. Would you like us to take one for you?”
“Sure.” Chang Yue handed the camera to Shi Wangui, then linked arms with her partner and smiled at the lens.
Shi Wangui’s photography skills weren’t bad. She chose the best light and captured the smiles on their faces.
While they waited for that photo to develop, Wu Yingxuan took the chance to ask Wen Youren, “What major are you planning to study? University A has many excellent programs.”
“Auditing,” Wen Youren said sincerely. “I choose auditing.”
“Few girls choose auditing on their own,” Wu Yingxuan noted. “It’s a very busy industry with heavy overtime, but I look forward to your success. If you really do graduate from there, contact me.”
“Thank you for the opportunity, Senior. I’ll work hard,” Wen Youren promised.
The photo was ready. Chang Yue and Wu Yingxuan had to go back for New Year greetings, so they hurried along. “Yingxuan, let’s go. We have to head back.”
Shi Wangui stepped aside to let them pass. “Bye-bye.”
“Bye-bye,” Chang Yue replied.
Once they were gone, Shi Wangui asked, “What did that sister say to you just now?”
“She asked what I wanted to major in and told me to contact her after I graduate from University A.”
“Wow!” Shi Wangui was shocked. “So you’ve already found a job before most people have even graduated high school?”
Wen Youren chuckled. “There are conditions. I have to get into University A, choose that major, pass everything, and pass with excellent grades.”
“I know that,” Shi Wangui said, looking down at the photo. “But I believe you’ll succeed, so I’m choosing to ignore those conditions for now.”
“Fine,” Wen Youren said.
“You’re choosing auditing, right? I heard you say it. But I’m going to choose psychology. When the time comes, I’ll get a watch and hypnotize you. I’ll make it so you can only love me for the rest of your life,” Shi Wangui added.
Wen Youren was silent for a moment. She knew Shi Wangui wanted to study psychology because of her. But she also knew that the solution to her problems lay within herself.
Now that she was with Shi Wangui, she felt more restrained; she had something to live for. Perhaps she didn’t even need a psychologist, because Shi Wangui herself was the antidote.
“Okay. I wish you success,” Wen Youren said.
Even without a watch to hypnotize me, I will always love you.
Speaking of watches, Shi Wangui checked the time. “Let’s go back. Sun Yi and Wang Hu are still there. Shi Qin and Wen Yiyue have left; they’re busy now.”
Shi Wangui had already turned her phone back on and saw a message from her aunt. Her aunt specifically said they could stay out for a few days; since the house was empty, there was no need to return yet.
Wen Youren stood in the sunlight, which made the scene look like a fairyland from another world. She took Shi Wangui’s hand. “Let’s go. Let’s go home.”
